I was very sick as a baby, I had jaundice and I was allergic to my mother's breast milk and it took them a long time to realize so the sicker I got the more antibiotics they gave me and back then that was just horrible antibiotics and they rotted my teeth. upper teeth and they had to cut my upper teeth off oh my gosh so for some reason my fangs survived and my lower teeth and that's what I had until I was about 10 years old.

God, I know, guys, it was very difficult. I know it's a shame you guys didn't grow up either. Yeah, they kind of made up for it now. I was like always the tall, thin, lanky girl with no teeth. I know, I know that life was really. You became great. the ones now, yes I think school reunions are very good for you now, yes Chariss, how annoying you are though John Ham. I mean, here's a picture of you. This is in high school. It looks like a Fitch model store from the comedian AB. That's ridiculous. Abdomen is: are you wearing a crop top like in a Britney Spears crop top?

It was the '80s. I mean, what were you going to do? There was a required look, uh, and it was mesh, and uh, you know, cut it. Halfway there, yeah, no, because he didn't stop there, you cut him off, didn't you, didn't you, oh yeah, that was on purpose, oh yeah, that's a look, your eyes are my treasure. I walk, look at him there, he was 17 years old. I'm sorry, because no one could accuse John Ham. I think it was an overnight feeling that you tuned out for a long time, yeah, I did, uh, yeah.

I landed in Los Angeles and I guess 1994 1995 somewhere around then and proceeded to not work for a solid while. I was there for 3 to four years at that time, thank you for taking all my jobs, um, yeah, it was uh, you know, I waited tables and I was a waiter and uh, and I did that whole circuit, and you made a deal with yourself about when Am I going to say this is not it? I gave myself up at the age of 30. I figured if that didn't happen by then, then I guess the market had spoken and uh and I would sneak back to the Midwest because even Your Big Break getting Dawn Draper and Madman wasn't easy No, in fact, I had to audition for a few seven or eight times for it, the American network AMC was the first to program original, so naturally they wanted someone incredibly famous.
I wasn't like that and then they had to be convinced and I had to audition and audition and audition and audition and audition and they told you to your face that they didn't think you were sexy enough no, uh, actually, I recently heard that, but how recently was it just that, thank you, by the way, uh no, that was, uh, that was, apparently they told the Creator, the writer and the creator, that they didn't think I was sexy enough for the Well, thank you, I want I mean, I'm just saying: Are they still alive and working?
They left. I'd think I had them murdered. No, then you know. I guess I'm glad no one told you because it's an awkward call. Yeah, sure, that would be weird, yeah, but no, it worked well, yeah, and Mad Men. I've said it's one of those

show

s that people not only like, but they love Mad Men. I mean, it's crazy and it's so accurate. representation of life in the '60s, but the fans get really fake, don't they? Yeah. I guess one of the dangers of doing anything that takes place in the relatively recent past is that everything has been documented in such a way that there are crazy fans who will say well, no, it wasn't raining on December 14, 1968, this is clearly serious and, uh, and you think, well, maybe you have too much free time, um, but, it is. notable, the

has a phenomenal research de

ment and they actually get a lot of that stuff down to the weather, in fact, and we play with a lot of historical events that happened and a season five, the fifth. season right now here and obviously won, worked on four Golden Globes, 15 Emmy Awards, it's an incredible thing, but perhaps the most telling thing about all the success of Mad Men is that it has spawned its own range of Barbies, isn't that right there?
Where would Barbie make a doll? of a man who smokes, drinks and fucks around the team's misplaced message, misplaced brand type, uh, you don't want to leave that doll around other dolls, it will get very, very inappropriate, very quickly, ragged and he's crying, I'm sorry, honey, don't call. and he comes with his own leather briefcase and has like a trench coat. It's lovely, it's real, oh yes, yes, that's amazing. They are a fashion model from Barie. Yes, you can collect the range there. Oh my gosh, that's amazing. a doll for no, I'm really jealous oh, you will, oh Prometheus, you will get a Prometheus doll, you are forced to sell it, your, your, your Monster doll, so one so good, that's amazing, okay, no, no no no.
Don't touch it, it's a hiss Kendall And super soft, yes, but it's surprising because you think normally you'd have to be in a movie like Prometheus to get an action figure, but not in a movie about advertising executives in the 1960s , especially the sexually active hyperactive ones. without genitals because Alan Parri, Alan didn't have a doll, huh, huh, merchandise? No, there were masks that you can buy in stores and things like, I mean, why would anyone want to wear an Alan po mask? I have no idea, but but. they were in the store and just in terms of endorsements, obviously as celebrities, you know you do it and you know you can make a lot of money, but Steve Ken you walked away from a lot of money, right?
Yeah, I, I, I was uh. Yeah, well, I was offered about two, let's say I was offered 2 million for a McDonald's ad. um and I said, uh, well, what I did actually because I wouldn't advertise McDonald's because I just wouldn't do it, um, but what I did was. I tried to negotiate and raised the rate as high as I could to see what they would pay. I kept saying uh I want more, I want more and then when they said we'll pay you 2 million I said no I just wanted to see how high they would go to say that round of applause there's the only thanks you'll get for walking away from 2 million nobody it gives you 2 million for not doing it and the thing is like six like a year later when I hadn't been doing much work, I remember thinking I should do it and now advertising is very regulated, you know, but at that time Mad Men He said it was a different world, people were less politically correct and these are some genuine examples of ads that were around then here's one, don't worry honey, you didn't burn the beer.
You should be happy. I married an alcoholic, like how can you think who does the shopping? Do you know back then? Do you know the wife? who went to the store to buy the things and to advertise this they used this you mean a woman can open everything herself isn't that right yeah oh I'm going to buy that oh this product thinks I'm an idiot and it's ketchup It's actually quite difficult to open, it's not just the feeling, sometimes, the wording of the slogans wouldn't work today, it blows her face and She will follow you anywhere, as true today as it was, this is my favorite, though this one is. because and I don't know why this would be, but it's an early morning laxative and the ad says 6:00 a.m. you feel punk 8:00 a.m. you're full of courage what a busy two hours it was good on all the commercials, very good, there you go, just to get back to Don Draper for a minute.
I'm so jealous of the way he drinks all day during work, that's not a character choice, that's how he works and uh, and speaking of drinking, John Ham, you're drinking again in your new movie Friends With Kids, yes, in fact, which I have seen and enjoyed very much. I Really Love You, written, directed by and starring your long-time

part

ner, Jennifer Westfeld, lovely and talented, yes. How long have you been together? Hey, it's us, yeah, there you go. We've been together 14 and some odd years. Wow, that's applause. Yes, can I, I'm just saying I actually caught a woman's face in the audience.
I swear yes, people were applauding and she was leaving. I washed what point 6 was: a. m. Feeling punk stupid long term mate. I washed that is amazing. It is spring from standard to standard. Well, thanks for washing. I'm sure your seatmates will appreciate it. but now it's you and Jennifer and then the rest of the cast it's like a mini bridesmaids reunion that we did uh not on purpose the movie was filmed before the bridesmaids came out uh but uh and Kristen had been together Christ uh they had united states, uh, long before all that and uh, we just fell on Maya Rudolph, who fit the role perfectly and odow, as everyone knows, here's a very talented son of a bitch and uh, and he.
It was available so we got it and it was a good thing too because then the bridesmaids came out and it was this international phenomenon and we wouldn't have been able to pay anyone if we had filmed it after that so it was, uh, it was Lucky for us and, again, you're not playing. I mean, what I liked about the movie was that none of the characters are simple, you know, everything is light and shadow, but your character is one of the less sympathetic characters, maybe a darker soul. yeah, I would say yeah, he's not the happiest guy and what the movie is trying to do is examine how interpersonal relationships and relationships between couples change once kids come into the picture and Jen and I don't have kids, but we know a lot of people who do it and we saw how their relationship changed a little bit and sometimes it's for the better and sometimes it's for the worse and for my character it's a little bit for him the worst and uh and he uh he doesn't handle it very well, okay, Listen, it premieres on Friday, June 29 and here's a clip.
