Jun 09, 2021
so I wanted to make

this

Ronin part 2 video, showing the features of the

gimbal

and how it works, and do some real world testing, real world testing that clearly went out the window when I thought about operating jet skis on a lake with some of my friends would be a great idea to show how

this

gimbal

works, which is not practical at all. We put it in the water and quickly realized that there's nowhere to store it, there's nowhere to operate it, there's nowhere to balance it, it's a terrible idea. and to move forward with that you would have to be completely willing to accept the fact that there is a very good chance that you will lose both the Ronin and your 1dx mark, so with that being said, we will not do anything that is going to be a direct

review

because That is the professional and responsible thing to do.

It has a few tricks up its sleeve to make you a better filmmaker. A better cinematographer. It will give you more. professional looking images and that is why we are all here, we want to improve that game and sometimes technology is taken to the point where a product can help us do that, that is today one of the things with a gimbal that is very difficult to The way to judge if it is good or not is when you record some examples in 1:20 or slow motion, because 120 slow motion will give you stable images, as it does when you put it on a gimbal and you are filming.

Slow motion will be the slowest but it will be perfect, it will look very, very good and it is difficult to make it not look good, so for these tests we will do a lot of different things so that you see raw not edited not in slow motion not stabilized by warp it is taken straight out of the camera examples with and without so here is a shot of me walking without any stabilization now here is the same shot of me walking on the exact same path with the Ronin s now these are all filmed at 24 frames per second so let's do the same test again now here's a photo of me running with the handheld without stabilization now here's the same photo 24 frames per second of me running with the Ronin s so I'm looking forward to I put these examples in this video so you can make the decision for yourself.

How good does that look with big strides when you're running? When you are walking, this gimble works to your satisfaction and for me, yes absolutely, it almost comes off. all those giant steps completely. I want to show you those same clips again but hung up so we can get some shots of the feet because photographing feet is very difficult if you don't have anything, there's no extra apparatus to do it if you're just Trying to hold the camera and keep it close to the feet of someone and you're trying to walk with them it's really hard to keep focus to make sure you have everything in the frame and it looks good and you see it's really hard to maintain that. stable because now you're leaning at a really weird angle trying to hold the camera, you can't really see the screen, this is what it looks like walking at 24 frames per second holding it as close to the ground as we can. to capture someone's feet now here is the same clip hanging at 24 frames per second using the Ronin s now here is the same clip running no ronan has 24 frames per second and now here is the same clip hanging running at 24 frames per second with the Ronin s, so not only is it very easy to hold onto the ground because of that extended grip and you can basically walk behind someone effortlessly without even having to bend over and wreck your back?
It looks much better, so I'll leave it all. of those tests and I wanted to make them as basic and easy as possible so that you guys could make a very easy decision if this is something that you think you could benefit from. I didn't want to drive it crazy like on Jet ski. I hope those tests really help you see if you think the gimbal will do what you need, especially for holding a DSLR which isn't exactly light and is a 16-35 lens which I have on this one. moment, so I have to keep in mind that it is a heavy payload and it is doing a very, very good job, so when you work with infinite flip, which is the feature where the camera just rotates 360 and goes on and looks super cool, I press mode until I go to mode three, then I open the app.
Now these are the settings that you're going to want to put in your own app if you want to be able to enable that infinite scroll and it goes like this. You will open your

ronin

app and access the control settings. Once you are in the control settings, you will press the channels. Now you will make sure that channel 2 is set to na and channel 3 is set to roll. you can do it by just tapping the scroll to whatever, but that's the settings I have to roll for channel 3, nothing for channel 2 and I have tilts for channel 1 like that and that's it, once you're done with that , you can swipe up and finish that way when you're ready to fire the infinite spin, hold the trigger, enter flashlight mode and then once you're in flashlight mode you'll just hold the joystick all the way When you're in mode 3 and your camera will spin infinitely, allowing you to get those really cool creative shots, this is how you do an infinite spin.
It was a bit of a search for me to figure it out the first time, but this is how I've done it and if you're looking to do the same effect, this is how you're going to do it too, well now here's an example of me running from left to right and we're going to beat without the Ronin from left to right. that same clip of me running from left to right let's do a flick using Ronin's butt holding down m4 sport mode to get that nice smooth track looks so good, let's talk about the joystick on the back for a second, It's the same type of joystick that you have on your drone remotes It's easy to push It's easy to grip It actually feels very comfortable but it's extremely useful You can actually fine-tune the exact movements of your camera to get the perfect shot exactly how you want it.
I want to, so if you want to just spin around a tree or spin around an object or show something up close, you can hold it down, it'll go faster, you can hold it a little bit, it'll go a lot slower, so the fact that the joystick It is very useful, you will use it a lot, especially when you use it together with the camera, move, so if you are going from top to bottom or bottom to top and you are moving the camera up, you will be able to Start with the camera looking down and hold the joystick back and then you swing it back, so now you have the up and down motion as well as the camera tilting up and down, which will make those shots more cinematic.
You see, it's all of these. Little features included that will give you really unique abilities that you just didn't have before, like infinite flip or these crazy camera moves where you're rolling while tilting the camera, these kinds of things are what really make this stand out, all of those shots now will look better because you have something stabilized. That's what I mean when I say it makes your footage look more professional. Can you get away with without a tripod? I shoot handheld a lot and use slow motion to compensate for not having a gimbal and if I don't have slow motion I usually use some type of warp stabilizer so I can get a little more smoothness in the footage.
Why is this something we all want? Because it is simply pleasant. The camera shake looks good when you intend the scene to be intense or stressful, you want that camera shake, sometimes you don't want a gimbal, but for the most part when it comes to B-roll we get really beautiful cinematic shots . Outside of the landscapes of helicopters or a car driving or someone running most of the time, this type of technology will improve your work, which is why I really wanted to show you all of these raw examples today and how something like this under $1,000 what will do for its production and its quality in general.
