More Interesting Facts About,

furniture painting for beginners one step paint dresser makeover...

This is the piece I'm going to address today. I thought this piece was going to be perfect for this

painting

because it is very flat and will be easy to roll. I'm going to try to make this

makeover

as affordable as possible so I'm going to put this hardware away and try to clean it up because I really like the way it fits the piece, but I didn't like these little guys. decorative stuff on the side, so I'm just using my painter's tool and a hammer to remove it. I'm going to fill these holes and sand this to smooth it out, but first I need to clean the entire piece.

Remember what I said. We are not going to prime, but we definitely need to clean our piece and for this paint to adhere well it must be free of oil, dirt and grease, so there are several ways to clean it: you can use a mineral. liquors to clean it, you can use a mixture of water and vinegar or you can use a degreaser. I opted to use a degreaser and the one they recommend is plain green. I found mine at the supermarket, but you can also get them at hardware stores. stores or on Amazon, it's very easy to use, just spray it on, let it sit for a bit to really cut through that grease and then you can go back to using a cloth or sponge to remove the really stubborn areas after cleaning the I took some clean water and I cleaned it to rinse it well as I mentioned before.

I really like the way these hardware look with the piece, so I'm going to remove them all and save them for later. I'm also going to remove all the drawers and set them aside to paint them separately. Once I got them out this thing was really dusty inside so I went ahead and cleaned it out and also cleaned the drawers where they had some dust from the hardware, my last step in prepping is to fill any holes or crevices I have on my piece so I'm just using a wood filler here letting it dry sand until smooth and then I'll use a tack cloth to remove the dust that I kicked up now it's time for the fun part let's paint on site beyond paint website.
In fact, you can buy this tool kit and it comes with this roller, a paint tray, and a brush to complete your project. I like to cover mine with aluminum foil because I'm lazy and then I don't have to wash it between coats this is the paint I'm using today this goes beyond paint all in one paint you don't have to stir this is it's going to have a consistency Super thick like pudding, so don't let that put you off. Do not add water to this. You don't have to do it. I just made sure to clean the lid very well so it doesn't stick.
When I put it back on, you want to spread out as much of your piece as possible and just use the chip brush on any areas you can't reach with the roller. This paint will adhere to almost any surface you can apply it to. Applies to raw wood, painted wood, whether oil or epoxy latex polyurethane varnish, also sticks to metal formica laminate, which is huge if you don't know if your piece is real wood or not, tile plastic linoleum masonry and even glass. Basically this paint can be applied to anything. This paint is very textured, but it levels out a bit as it dries, but it is intended to fill in small nicks and dents, so it won't be a completely smooth surface.
It looks smooth, but has a bit of a textured feel to painting these drawer fronts. I just went around the perimeter of each side and then painted from top to bottom because of how thick the paint is, the coverage of the first coat is amazing. I noticed that I am wiping down each drawer with an anti-static cloth just to make sure they are completely dust free before I start painting. I made sure to make a little bit of the overhang on the frame just because I don't want to. I see some of that wood once I put my drawers in, this is the part where I had to grab that chip brush to get into those little cracks in the frame.
You really just want to push the paint in there and stipple there, not use regular. The stroke movement, as I mentioned, will have a lot of texture, but it levels out as it dries. This first coat needs two to four hours to dry, so I took all my tools and put them in ziploc bags to save them for my next coat. I just threw out my foil liner so my paint tray would be ready for the next coat while it dried. I worked on my hardware it had a lot of corrosion damage there and I tried a bunch of things to get it off but it just wasn't working so I decided to paint these guys so I'm just prepping them by sanding them and getting all that corrosion off and then I like to support mine on a piece of cardboard like this so I can go under it. in each area and that way they won't stick to my drop cloth so I just screw all the hardware in here and then it sets up a little bit so you don't miss any spots when you spray.
Use spray paint to finish them in a matte black. This is an oxide-oleum that has a primer as long as I sand and prep my hardware well and let the paint dry completely. I've had really good luck with these spray paints holding onto the hardware here, I'm only doing three coats. I started by lifting the handles and then placing them in the position they will be in most of the time. Now I'll let them sit overnight. So they are nice and dry before adding them to my piece. So this is what my drawer looks like now that it's dry.
It's nice and soft, but it has texture and I wanted to show it to you compared to how it looks wet. to dry now there is a big difference. I'm really impressed with the way it looks, so this second coat continues just as the first coat was applied again. I want to show you that stippling motion that you do with the brush in the places where I can't reach it with the roller and then you spread everything else out. Rolling furniture really saves you a lot of time. I think it only took me about 30 minutes to apply each coat and I don't think I've mentioned this yet, but this color is actually called pewter and I have the court that covers 50 to 100 square feet in two coats and that's about 10 to 12 cabinets.
I think for a project this size all you'll really need is one pint and that covers 25 to 50 square feet with two coats, I never thought about it, I never thought about it and that's it, I'm done with the painting part because as you guys I said, this is a one-step all-in-one paint, so you don't need to seal it, it's self-sealing, and it even has some UV protection. You need to let it cure for two or three days before moving it around the house and then it takes 30 days to fully cure before you can do so. I cleaned it with soap and water, so I let my piece dry for a couple of days and then I brought it in and put it back together and look how pretty this hardware turned out.
I love this matte black against the pewter color of the paint. this was one day of work, two days of drying, this is what I started with before and this is what my piece looks like now. I can't believe how quick this makeover was. I really think this paint is great for anyone who is a beginner. or just as a DIYer who just wants to fix something for their house and doesn't want to have a lot of tools or go through a lot of guesswork to do it.
