Gina obviously mistakenly thought she was coming to an end because I saw them. Eric slowed down as they passed that mall, but no, these vehicles are still chasing them, of course, there is a new policy in the city of Houston, at least when it comes to

police

chase

s, they are trying not to be as aggressive as before. depending on what the person they're chasing is accused of, yes, right now they're not going to budge on this and I know the details are coming in as we continue to watch this Chase as they get closer to a Stoplight here that's going to It's going to be pretty congested, so let's hope this Chase

suspect

doesn't run over anyone.

He ran that light over there, but there's more traffic here now, Tammy, we watch this unfold here and we watch this driver take the wrong turn. side of the road here, do we know anything about how long this has been going on or even why they were initially pulling this driver over? Yes, we picked it up in about 5 minutes. Sky I 13 was the first to arrive on the scene after this chase and we really heard him. from the police helicopter, uh, telling us they were on the Gulf Highway heading toward Monroe, chasing this suspect again, running stop signs, very dangerous situation, so again, if you're walking out the door, our sky map at the top of your screen. avoid the air if you can, yeah we hate too, it's really dark at this time, it wasn't that dark at this time before and what's going on there looks like there might be trouble with a wheel, which usually happens in these chases.

Looks like a lot of dust is kicking up. I don't know, maybe it's just the road they're traveling on, but yes, we've seen this driver, although he's going the opposite direction and swerving several times into the lanes of oncoming traffic. Even the officer had to do it there again. They're not going to let this driver get into any more traffic, of course, it's rush hour in Houston, so we all know what it's like for the driver to turn right right there, but the police stay. very close to what appears to be a maroon Dodge Challenger if we can get a better look, that's what it appears to be at this point, but this driver, of course, encountering so much traffic on the road, simply continues on Zig. and out of the cars and that officer very close as we get into more traffic here and then this is where drivers can sometimes try to go the wrong way but they will stay and again G I know you were talking about it definitely comes out smoke from one of those Tire Wells over there, yeah, and it also looks like the fleeing suspect is picking up speed compared to when we started watching this, Pursuit slash Chase, we have to be cautious using that word Chase, I know, police.

I don't like that word being used in some cases, but it seems like it's reaching that kind of status because of the speed they're using again. The new policy in Houston is to back off if the person they are chasing is not charged again with a felony we have no information on what this person is considered to have done this now in South Richie on Laurel Street we are doing a good job there with our directions at the top of the screen there tell you where they're going, but yeah, we're not seeing Eric either, the traffic gets a lot lighter, it looks like this chase or pursuit continues around many other vehicles, putting many others off. our community members at risk, yes, it's surprising that they haven't had more traffic than what we normally see here in the Houston area, but yes, again, South Richie here, this is part of the new GPS technology with the that our Sky I13 came equipped a few months ago. back but now there's an open road for this Chase suspect here as officers at least that one in the cruiser uh stays pretty close to the back of that car as it comes to another busy intersection and this could get dangerous, it starts running on red lights uh fortunately no one is trying to cross that intersection right now, but he's picking up more speed and leaving that officer again, but again, you know what I was going to say Eric, I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say we've covered. hundreds of these here at this station or in our run and you never see a suspect escape once the helicopters are over the vehicle, they can stay with the suspect when they keep an eye on him like this so we just hope that not one is hurt, but the person doesn't really run away when you have your eyes on him like this, yeah, and of course, right now we were talking about that new Chase policy and I look at the officer trying to use one of those possible wells.
Maneuvers to hit the rear fender of the car. It looks like the officer decided not to take that route, since he stopped on the right side of that red or maroon Challenger over there, but he's again starting to hit more and more traffic here. and it looks like he's been, he could be pinned right here, but it looks like they're not going to take that move that it looked like they had there, you know what we could see in that turn, although we could see how. many other CU police vehicles we have been quite tied to the suspect vehicle in that officer car, but when we made the turn you could see how many others almost feel like it is going around, it has made at least two or three U-turns in the We have been following 5 minutes here and he couldn't shake them, yeah, and there was really nowhere to go, apparently because of all these U-turns he's doing right now, but he keeps having to lock the brake lights right here because either she, he or she , they are right, they continue to block the brake lights here and they are going to go to a side street here, we have already seen them pass at high speed, through one of the shopping centers there, but We are going to what appears to be an area residential right now, there aren't as many lights uh it's picking up speed and in that area I see what appears to be warehouses and we're certainly glad that this area as you mentioned earlier is not more populated. or that it is not the time of day that school buses are trying to take kids home, but we are still hopeful that officers can bring this to a peaceful, non-violent, or non-dangerous situation, this is where I am It makes your stomach twist even though he's just speeding by.
On all these side roads, you don't know when someone is going to pull out onto one of the side roads without suspecting they're going 0-80 mph. Can you tell Tammy how fast the vehicle is traveling? I know sometimes we're able to gauge that with the technology that's on the helicopter, yes I actually have a speedometer, it's a little hard to keep my pilot Parker Ward doing a great job here because we have another police helicopter here. , so you have to talk to him. air traffic control and obviously I'm doing the camera just like Churchill, so again the top of the screen is always pretty accurate, but sometimes the way I'm maneuvering the camera can be a little bit below, but you can see. now it seems like he is losing control of the vehicle obviously as you mentioned this is a

charger

so it is a very fast car and maybe the driver just thinks you know this car can reach excessive speeds that he will be able to escape from. the police, but as you can see, there are so many police officers behind them, two helicopters up again, we don't see many drivers escape when a high speed Chase starts well, Tammy Rose, I tell you what Gina and I are now.
Let's move on to the 6:30 news team Jonathan Bruce and Ma mono they're going to take the police chase from here guys yeah thank you all so much for covering that while we try to move over here to the 6:30 news. So we've been watching Jonathan and just when we think he's coming to an end, he speeds up and loses the officers behind him, but they're still right behind him. It seems like heartbreaking moments right now as we're watching it live from Sky ey. 13 we picked this up around 626 M so it's been almost 10 minutes at this point and we know the chase was happening a lot earlier in terms of when we got to it and a lot of different things we've seen like a smoking wheel.
Eric Baraha has talked about we've seen multiple U-turns, what we haven't seen is that this suspect or whoever is leading the police on this chase has any interest in stopping, yes, and then honestly when we see incidents like this , they rarely stop. um it's really hard to tell who's behind the wheel because the tint on this vehicle is completely dark uh but again we've had chases involving women so again we don't know who's behind the wheel of this vehicle but we're still He's being followed closely and it seems like the police are probably trying to find him in a different part of this chase and hope

full

y lock him down.
I know there are cases where the police try to get ahead and use those spike strips in hopes of stopping this person but again they don't stop and go so I hope it doesn't turn into a pretty bad situation because lately we've seen some chases that unfortunately turn deadly and we're watching live from Sky I 13 right now one thing. What we're seeing here in real time is that this vehicle is now back on the highway. It looks like I45 North right now and M, the speed is increasing and accelerating to very, very fast levels as we see the vehicle going up this left shoulder.
Right now yes, and this should be the southeast side of town as it goes on 45th near Park Place and Broadway, Tammy, any other details or anything you've been able to gather since you started following this chase, yes In fact, the police lost them. near the Gul Highway and you saw that the Dodge Charger was maneuvering around an industrial area, but you know, the police helicopter and the Sky I 13 had their eyes right here, on this driver who was making all these erratic turns and ran the stop signs and there we were. Let's go to our first

crash

with smoke and fire again.
I'm gonna walk away this is what we hate to see uh but it looks like he

crash

ed into another police vehicle right behind him again a Dodge Charger stopping here on the Gulf Freeway heading towards Park Place yeah. it looks like he was trying to maneuver and he's out, this person is out of the vehicle too, yes this person is in the situation here on the

gulf

freeway

feeder road again, one foot The pursuit police not far behind him along with a dog that is following him and we see the dog catch up to him quite quickly and you feel that the dog will finally win that race.
I don't know, I know we have to have some discretion in terms of how close we can get and it looks like the dog is very close and maybe this suspect, Chase and yes, he is behind the vehicles at this point. It looks like they are in the water now. At this point we saw some rain, obviously yesterday, so I'm safe. In this area that he is trying to maneuver through there are several puddles there and it looks like he is trying to hide behind these vehicles. Hope

y this person doesn't have some type of weapon again, that's something the police need to keep in mind because safety comes first. where he came in, say that one more time Tammy and now the police are closing in with their guns, yeah, so the police know what vehicle this person came in because we have the police helicopter here with us giving ground, uh Patrol, what It's happening here again. in that vehicle in the center of our screen we will keep it in a medium shot, the police officers have their weapons in their hands and again a dog and a suspect in the middle of our shot, the suspect inside the vehicle now looks like he is actually hiding has given up this is good to back off this is what we like to see as the end this is good it looks like the suspect is backing away they are currently putting handcuffs on him and it's a crazy situation.
I have never seen a chase where there is a dog involved following the suspect trying to escape a scene and that is what we believe again is actually the suspect's dog that got out of the car with them and then followed them and all of this comes to an end. end. Right now Timmy, where exactly are you next to the Golf Freeway? So we're in south Houston, east of the Gulf Freeway, here, near Lynn Street andGulf Freeway, again a suspect in custody, looks like they are trying to catch the dog. Also, in a parking lot, he was actually hiding in one of these vehicles in this vehicle storage lot.
This is a great scene again. We've been following this chase since shortly after the 6:00 news started, about 620 or so. before the 6:30 news started and at first it seemed like the suspect wasn't stopping and it wasn't until a couple minutes ago that this person crashed into two vehicles and then abandoned the car, ran away and then was caught by a dog. followed right behind him. We saw a lot of U-turns through residential neighborhoods and all kinds of maneuvers by the suspect and the scene you're looking at right now. We saw the suspect increase to extreme speeds and then really.
It looked like he had crashed into the shoulder of the Gulf Highway and we saw sparks flying in all directions and you can see how Tammy shows us the situation here after this, how this chase ended. It appears that is one of the vehicles the suspect hit. Hopefully everyone involved is okay with everything else that happened, but. Again now we're going to have some type of backup here on 45th as police try to, of course, isolate this area because it's now part of the investigation as they begin to clean up the location where this suspect abandoned his vehicle and drove away.
Now we can welcome Tamy back. Everyone is watching this live from Sky I13 and our reporter Tammy rosm on air. Tammy, how would you describe the way police and law enforcement conducted this chase? We know that's always a question in these situations, yeah, I mean, they can always back off these chases like it looks like they did it or even lost them, but it didn't matter because we had them and the police helicopter, but what It's so scary is when the suspect came back up. Gul Highway and you saw it on live TV hit an innocent bystander again you're seeing the aftermath of that truck a lot of damage just hoping and praying no one was hurt in this uh Chase again the suspect got out of his vehicle with a dog heading east on Gulf Highway tried to hide in a vehicle and police were able to catch him Tammy, can you tell if the other people who were hit are near his vehicle if they seem okay or not?
I know that's always a concern when other people get caught up in this kind of crazy chase, yeah so far I'm just seeing tow trucks, I haven't seen any ambulances, well look at this, we have a couple of people you know probably, obviously Shell Shocked here about what happened, I mean you're just driving down the Gulf Freeway and again you know traffic is slow because there's a lot of traffic coming in just south of downtown so you don't expect that no one comes at you at high speed, so again. We're still waiting for an ambulance, but what a scary situation because a suspect's vehicle, as you saw, caught fire and it seemed like just because of Chase it seemed like you knew the wheels as we see the tire shred down to the wheels.
