Goodwill table we turned it over and of the other pieces was the ladder when we found it on the property and I love using it in the decorations where we put our blankets there. This is a Craigslist dresser I painted with chalk paint, another Craigslist dresser. There, that's where we keep the Legos, so through that nice French door is actually the only storage place downstairs, it's a walk-in closet that will be shipped polished and we keep the kids' toys in there and then my additional decorating and cleaning and some of our bulk food supplies. I'll show you some photos of that.

Well, to the left of the front door is what we call the Fireplace Room and it came with these original pillars that I immediately loved. It was a selling point for me and it was originally the dining room of the first family that lived here. We replaced the lighting here. We lined up the cans in each of the corners and then I'm usually not someone who likes to use ceiling fans, but we have. To use a ceiling fan in this house because we heat with our wood stove, we added a faux brick wall behind the wood stove.

I have a tutorial on that and then we also added in this concrete fireplace. My favorite detail is the little stamp set from 1906. around here on the edge and it's chipping a little, but so far so good, we've really loved it. I have a very popular tutorial that the rug is from the world market and is current, still in stock and has a good price. I also created slipcovers for the chairs and I have a tutorial on how to make Parsons slipcovers without a pattern, so if you're new to sewing this is a great way to get started with slipcovers, and then we have our little ladder with the window. which I loved when we bought the place I had, I think it was built in the '50s or '60s, but the railing went all the way to the ceiling so it looked like prison bars, so they changed it and then we dressed up the new stall. from a popular post about that and then this box here is a toy box that I bought for $10 at a garage sale, I painted it white and that's where we keep all our fire making supplies, so I have our paper, kindling , some gloves and things there and then last but not least, this sign here that Joshua 24:15 as long as we stay in my house we will serve the Lord, that's a simple tutorial.
I'll link it and you can even print the words and not have to design that. Part of it, the most impressive room in the house is really the kitchen, we completely gutted it, we opened up this whole wall that we're looking at here, it was just a door that went into the kitchen, so we completely opened it up and gutted it. We had to harvest, we actually stabilized the foundation, so at one point there was like a three foot drop to the ground and we had a board that went from the fireplace room to the laundry rooms, he could cross it, the pirate we call.
It was the pirate board, you could cross it if you wanted, you had to use the bathroom there. One of my favorite things about this kitchen is that there are two portraits, so over to the right side is our chicken coop and you can see. our chickens out the window and then if you look out the window over the sink you see the kitchen porch and you can see my garden out there. I keep my painting and upholstery tools in this chipped trunk. My sewing machine is in those white cabinets we keep. we like to store our boots and a box of wine.
I bought this for a dollar at a garage sale and it just helps keep the mud off the floor. We keep our roots and a box, so it's a little decorative and rustic but also very functional. and I like to store my baking supplies and my rice and these half gallon glass jars and you can get these plastic lids on Amazon for any glass jar so maybe the glass jar can become this great storage container which, of course, we ended up having to replace the floor. We had to order special planks to match the correct width of the other fluorine in the house so that the kitchen floors, the new bathroom floors were new and everything else was original.
We then passed through our unfinished laundry room and headed to the powder room now. There were a few years where this actually didn't work, I mean the toilet worked, but everyone was afraid to use the bathroom because the roof was open and they read, "Oh my God, I go to the bathroom and you look up and you see a raccoon." ". Looking at it from the ceiling and no one was showering so we finally got it done, we replaced the flooring, we notched the kitchen floor, we used this fabulous wallpaper that is beadboard and I haven't had a steam column in there. so I totally recommend it.
I think it cost a hundred dollars, you know, to quote the beadboard for the entire bathroom and it's just painted wallpaper and it feels, I mean, it's 3D, so it feels like the beadboard and everything if the Eastlake dress I was off Craigslist with the marble top and we cut it or thought a little bit, I defined a small sink and I found it on Craigslist and we had a special order for the backsplash, but we did it and I love this piece, it's actually a One of my favorite pieces in the entire house, the nearby part was on Craigslist and the little sconces are on eBay.
One of the funny things that's important to me when I'm redoing an old bathroom is not to make the total paper look too modern, so I always try to I didn't put a toilet paper holder on the wall and came up with this little half round shelf idea, so that's what we have, the toilet paper and the bamboo table. At a garage sale it was two dollars for this thin little hair of a wall. I grabbed a different cloth and they don't even work anymore because the batteries just died, but I think it's a nice solution for a thin wall area if you're trying to do decorating.
I paid a dollar each for these rock dipping yard sales and so this new year's is called a pub mirror. I found this at Goodwill, painted it white, so from the fireplace room we went upstairs. I love how there is a little window along that staircase. These stairs are starting to wear out again but they were really bad when we moved in when we ripped out the carpet and also replaced the banister and made this cute little new post built around a big post, read a blog post about when we did that one, no publication and it is super popular for many. people have done it.
I went ahead and put up a large mirror. I got this off Craigslist, of course. I bought it when we first moved to Ballard Designs Mir and I put it against that wall over there. I really like how it bounces the light. from these windows to the entire hallway, a funny story with that mirror. I forgot to find out exactly what kind of house this mirror came from so we went to Seattle and we had to climb three flights of stairs along a cliff to get to this condo and then we had to drag this mirror down and I was wearing high heels, we couldn't do it, we actually had to knock on people's doors and get the neighbors to come out and help us, it's not funny and then we put it up. the back end was kind of leaning against the cab of our truck and we drove home with it the whole way home people were looking at us like oh my god they're going to break that mirror but we made it and then we had to think.
I figured out how to get it up and I thought, honey, if we need to get a crane and get it through the windows, we'll do it somehow, they figured it out. I instantly fell in love with all the interesting ceiling lines in the hallway. I just love that about old houses, it was one of the selling points for me and then I made this Velveteen Rabbit sign as a free printable on Pinterest and I made this book page wall. I have a tutorial about this room having changed quite a bit. since we first moved in I had this as the girls room so I had two girls and then one was in the trundle bed which worked well for a while and I actually went ahead and went for the luck of the little princes which they loved it for a long time.
I bought the desk at a garage sale that cost $20 and then I found the game. I guess it's called a lingerie trunk there, but I found out that we made these little baskets, they're not made out of chicken wire, but out of fence wire, and we put little wheels on them. on them and that is a king size pillowcase, a very cute little idea for a hamper, this room comes with this lovely little beaded armoire that I have been loving recently. We have had this addition with this little cat tower. I'll just show you behind the scenes here, the kitten.
It's scratching all my old furniture and now this works better, good and you can see that this also used to be two rooms, this opened up and now it's like a suite and for a long time this was my school room and it was very nice, it I decorated in a sort of Pottery Barn style and we had all this great storage here, these were built-ins, they were here when we got here, actually, when it was one of the retail outlets. I walked up the stairs and I saw Some of these doors are gone, but I saw all this built-in storage even though it's not very stylish and I thought, Oh my God, it has a classroom and it was one of the four reasons I wanted to buy home.
Of the four main reasons, we now have three girls in this room and they are going in their own direction. They are your teenagers. Two of them are in university. So it's not my space anymore, but that's okay. I like to give them their own space and let them spread their wings and find their own decorating style so that's happening here now one day this will become a guest room and I have some plans for it again so I'll show you my son's room. and this was a recent makeover along with those lockers. I'll show you both videos now.
I'm going to go ahead and show you some beauty shots later, but since there were some changes, I decided against it. I like the map, so it no longer has its pillows. Had a sleepover last night. It's still cute, but I'll show you some pictures of what it looked like when I was done. I love this room the first time I walked in here. Just I like it. all those closets are so pretty every room in the house has windows every closet has windows there is no electricity in this house so because it's so nice I'm not going to open it now because I'm afraid of what's in there but I knew right away that this one was going It was going to be a good little boy's room and I made it all blue and patriotic when we first moved in and now he just turned 16 so it needed a little more adult look. but in our old house there were all the kids, two girls and a boy, in one room, which was sweet, it was like, I mean, in my mind it was like Peter Pan's nursery, but they were growing up and it was fun to have a room. a boy's room in a girl's room, the upstairs bathroom has a transom up there which I love, love, love, love, and then it has a kind of frosted glass door, I put this on it nice sign and this place was a real mess, let's see if I can show it to you, so this wall here was a horrible old bathtub that was falling off the floor.
You had to use pliers to turn on the water, so we ripped all that out and we had this bathtub that our friends gave us and we renovated it. although if you look closely you can see that I did a whitewashing project here with drop cloths and managed to cause damage there, so we'll have to repaint it. We put in all new floors, all new leather floors with this cane. Boring enough. a small chandelier turns on and then one of thebest parts is this dresser from craigslist we found and put this very strong clear coat finish on it.
I mean you can see it's like oh no if you can see it but it's like it's about 1/8 of an inch thick but that makes it waterproof and then we had to make our little backsplash get the mirror on eBay, the sink is also off Craigslist and I decided to put dishes on the wall which I know is really different. with bathrooms, but we like it as an old curiosity that we painted white, my grandmother used to keep dolls there and I really liked how it looked in a kind of strangely shaped corner, look at that there and then and last but not least , down.
At the end of this hall is the master bedroom, these used to be two different bedrooms before we bought the house, someone had opened this room up, so in 1906 they loved to have lots of small rooms and then they could label them. them and they sound richer so the back room or those two chairs would have been the mother's sewing room and when we got home we had to tear up the old carpet and of course we found this old four floors underneath there were so many things rotten boards that we had to take out this section of the floor we took pieces out and then we patched Everywhere where the floor was damaged and then this inlay here is all new wood that's how we fixed the problem of the rotten wood floor we put in that electric fireplace and we've been making improvements to the mantelpiece we got from craigslist.
There is one. I'd like to do more things to make it what I'm dreaming it will be and then right on the edge of that inlay was a fireplace that we actually had to chiseled out that ran right through the center of the room. One of the cool things that happens when you open up two bedrooms is that you get a lot of small closets. These were not, must not have been from 1906, but we ended up having a room with three closets. My husband is currently doing an electrical project. so it will need to be patched, something is always happening around here.
I shared a tutorial on how to make your bifold doors look like this with the shaker style finish. These are just folding doors from Craigslist and I will share them. In that post and video with you, I also pulled this little nightstand off Craigslist and redid it to look more like a card catalog and put those big wheels on these chairs that were from a garage sale, in fact they were the first pieces of furniture what I bought. at a garage sale and of course I was hooked after that but we made them and there's a blog post that says that little hanging cow is an act, it's a piece of wrapping paper and that's my favorite shape to quickly and cheaply create a wall hanging so I have a tutorial on how to make it very good for gifts too and it's about $10 okay and then that light still needs a makeover.
I bought the two lamps at a garage sale for seven dollars for both. Then I painted them to look like wood and then I had to stain the lampshades and I have a tutorial on the way. Soon the nightstand is a recent find at an antique mall and I recently finished the armoire I was given. From my husband's grandmother we have matching rugs that are new. I just put that rug down today. I'm still trying to decide if I like blue. I think so. You can let me know in the comments if you like that blue. rug and then I have this one on the other side of the room - it's from Target this distressed blue rug I found that wicker trunk for ten dollars at a garage sale and then we got that gray pillow. room because it's cozy in here with the fire and we'll just throw it in front of the fire and my youngest daughter who is still homeschooled sits on that, okay and then last but not least there's this third closet that I mentioned before.
I decided to overlap it and use it as my little closet area and it is working very well. I got this chair back. I found this for $15 at a garage sale and embroidered that little crown that refused to be my logo on my blog. I will share that blog. post in the description below and then I mean the most important part of converting a closet into an office is that you need to find a desk that is the appropriate size so be careful with your measurements and don't compromise okay, Thank you for visiting our farm. house and walk through this whole story if you're still here you're a rock star and I hope you like the befores and afters it's good for me to even watch them again and see how far we've come sometimes I feel like oh we still have a lot more to do specifically on the laundry room porches, but we've done a lot.
It's fun to take a step back and celebrate with you and I'll see you next time, take care, I'll see you. soon
