FRONT PORCH MAKEOVER ON A BUDGET | BEAUTIFUL FRONT PORCH TRANSFORMATION | FARMHOUSE FRONT PORCH .

Jun 07, 2021
Hello everyone welcome back to my channel so in today's video I'll be working on my

front

porch

makeover

and this is probably one of the biggest

transformation

s I've done on my channel in a long time so I hope everyone enjoys it and let's move on. and let's start off right, so here's a short clip of what the

front

door looked like before we had the new door my dad recently gave us. I was very excited about this door, it is absolutely

beautiful

and if you don't know it. anything about the doors, they are super expensive so I was more than excited to get this one, but if you look closely you can see that our front

porch

area was quite stained around the trim and needed a new coat of paint, Even the side of the house had a lot of concrete splatters everywhere because the previous owner put this concrete slab down after painting the house yellow, so you can see all those marks all over the house and I decided to touch a lot.

Oops today and I really just transformed the front of my house because I desperately needed it so I'm going to start by just removing all the leaves and then I'm going to start painting the side of the house with some old paint that the old previous owner left it, no I'm sure what color it is, it doesn't stay in the container, but all I know is that I'm just painting over all these concrete splatters and any place that needs a new coat of paint already comes with me. I'm not really asking us to go somewhere where we don't know that this is what we expected, so I just wanted to quickly mention that the hand painter that I'm using now is amazing if you're anyone.

Anyone who does a lot of projects or paints like bigger things definitely pick up one of these next time you're in the store, it will change your life. They're great and then I'm just taking a brush to get really close to the concrete. Down here at the bottom of the house, this part had a lot of texture so I couldn't use the hand painter that low, but I did my best to make this look a little better and then right after painting the house and do everything. I did the touch ups with this Valspar, the perfect white paint and by the way this is an exterior paint that way it will last and I just painted all the trim they work great I think I did two coats yes I did two layers. around the window trim and then three coats around the door frame that way, I don't know, just the door frame gets used a lot more, so I wanted to make sure it was really coated and would last, I think I'm going to hide somewhere next to a gay star, baby who will never escape, so while I was painting, my sweet little Zoe decides she wants to try to sneak away and waited until the perfect opportunity when I wasn't looking.

She looked at me to see if I was looking and said, "Oh, I'm leaving." She went for a little walk, I don't know where she went, but when I realized she was okay, Kaiden realized she was gone, Mom said. Where's Zoey? I thought I don't know and then she came around the corner of the car. Obviously I don't think she left the garden, but I thought it was funny that she decided to go for a little walk every time I was there. I'm not seeing well so after painting all the trim white I went ahead and started on the concrete so I'm using the porch and floor slip paint in dark gray and I'm starting by just cutting along the length of the house and throughout. all the columns and stuff and then I'm going to go ahead and roll this up, so the only prep work I did on the concrete was just making sure I took it off and trying to make sure all the leaves and sticks were up, unfortunately It was a very windy day so every time I turned around a leaf would blow on the paint but it still turned out really great and covered all the stains which is exactly what I was looking for so I'm very very happy with the finished product and I feel like this paint works pretty well, I will say that although it is very difficult to apply on concrete so make sure you get the right type of roller.

I used one that was for similar textured walls and I thought it would be you know enough about diapers, but it definitely wasn't. Make sure you get something that is very comfortable that way, it gets into the ruts very easily, it's like I can't breathe because where you go is where I go. I don't need anyone else. I have you and me too, so next up is this old rocking chair that my brother and sister-in-law recently gave me and then my mom gave me this old stand, so I'm going to put on a new coat. of spray paint on these and bring them back to life and today I'm using the oxide-oleum spray paint in the satin finish and the black color and I'm going to apply two coats on the rocking chair and two coats on that little stand by the way, I love them spray paints that have the trigger instead of the button you press with your index finger.
It makes it a lot easier to spray paint when you have the trigger, your finger doesn't hurt and I feel like it just gives a better finish, so if you're new to spray painting definitely look for the type that has the trigger, it will do a lot for you. easier on you and it won't kill your hand and by the way I know the The rocking chair looks a little stained here but after the second coat it's gone so if that ever happens to you don't worry try another one layer and then continue from there, you may have to stay in the middle just depending on the finish. but luckily for this rocking chair I was able to do two coats without sanding and it holds up really well, we've already rocked it, the kids have climbed on it and it looks really

beautiful

, so now we move on to the front. door I really tried hard to save the red door.
I didn't want to paint it. I love the color red, but we had to change the lock and the people who painted the door red didn't paint behind the lock so you could. I saw where the wood looked after we put the new one in so I was going to try spray painting it black and see if I could make it look good but in the end it didn't work it looked terrible so I went ahead and Painted the entire door, but I'm using the Rust-oleum spray paint and matte finish to apply a new coat of paint to the bowl and handle that way they match, so after spray painting the handle and latch, I you know anyway.
The color looked great except when I took off the black or blue tape and then had the fake latch square it looked terrible it looks so cheap so I decided my only option was to paint the door which I could have gone with . a lighter color, but I already had this whole gallon of paint, um black paint, that I plan to use for the interior doors of my house and a Lowe's employee recommended it to me and said it worked great for exterior doors and interior doors. So I thought: you know what? I'll try it and see what happens.
I painted the entire door black. I did the first layer. Everything looked great. I was super in love with it when I did the second layer. I realized. Yes. Maybe this wasn't the best paint to use on the door, especially in a super humid place like Florida, but it holds up well. I've only had a few problems. There was a small spot that bubbled a couple of times and I sanded it and repainted it. and it looks good and hasn't bubbled since so I hope it holds up well so I don't want to recommend this paint to you guys and you all use it and have the same problem definitely do your research. before buying door paint because the last thing I want is for the door to be painted and it starts to peel or chip really badly and I'm not sure how this will hold up but I'll keep you posted. but it looks good so far, so I'm happy with the finish.
I really hope it lasts. Worst case scenario, I'll sand the door and repaint it and learn from this mistake like any other project I may have had a little mess with. I learned from those mistakes and made sure I didn't make the same mistake twice as someone who does a lot of DIY projects. I want everyone to know that there are So many times I mess up I couldn't even count on my fingers and toes how many projects I've screwed up, like almost all of them, but guess what I learned from them and I've gotten better and better. over time.
The decorating style has improved and I'm not trying to brag or anything, but I feel like over time my projects have gotten better and that's all because I've learned that I've become more comfortable with what I do. What I have been doing and you know it's all a learning process so never give up keep trying and eventually you will perfect your art and you will be very good at it so now let's move on to decorating the space I'm using. two pots that were similar in size, one was brown so I quickly spray painted it black and then added my two ferns that I recently bought at Lowe's, they were on sale for two for 20 dollars and I did my best to find them. the fluffiest, greenest ferns I could find, so I put them in the pots and then I'm going to go get my rocking chair now that it's nice and dry and I'll go ahead and finish decorating the space, so every time I was thinking about how I was going to redecorating this space I knew I wanted to keep a fairly neutral theme that way I could use a lot of the items I already had on hand and then everything would flow really well together so I chose greenery with the white flowers and then added a really pretty pop of color to the rocking chair, that pillow came from Walmart for five dollars, very cheap and then I found a really cute door mat from Walmart that says hello and it was like 11 dollars.
I added that and an old rug I had on hand underneath to give it a layered effect and then the last thing I'm going to do, well my husband is adding a new light fixture so this light came from Lowe's. and I'll link it below if I can find it online it was 50 bucks but I feel like it's a very timeless look so it will last a long time and I feel like it really made a big difference on the front porch and A quick little tip if you're looking lighting but you want it to be affordable, what I like to do is go to Pinterest or wherever you can find a good inspiration photo.
I look at what they have and then I go into Lowe's or look around. Amazon and found something very similar that way, I get the look, but I also do it on a

budget

. Looks great. I love it. I wish I had matching ones on each side. It would be great.
