Former Bulls Guard B.J. Armstrong on the Jordan vs LeBron Debate | The Rich Eisen Show | 6/4/18"},"l

Jun 08, 2021
Your thoughts on this Jordan versus LeBron James comparison would be DJ Armstrong's. Well, I can see from a fans perspective the comparison. They are both lateral players. You know LeBron is about six eight, Jordan is about six six and they've both been the. The most dominant players in their time, but when I look at it and look at it in detail as a player and as a

former

player, they are two totally different players. LeBron is a facilitator. LeBron starts. LeBron will do things I don't believe. Jordan was asked to do it, but the most important thing is that I don't think he had to do it.

You know, LeBron will start the offense. He'll score a little. He will bounce a little. He will do all the things within the team. Michael. Jordan was a first, second and third scorer, he was a phenomenal finisher of the game and what I mean by that is Michael Jordan stopped playing, he stopped having to facilitate, he didn't have to do all those things, he just finished the game. he finished it, I think he was the best finisher of the game because he didn't have any weaknesses in his game when he played, especially in the fourth quarter.

We know we refer to him as a three-dimensional player. Either he's going to score, he's going to get fouled or he was going to have or go to the free throw line and make both free throws and not many players can do that in the last four minutes of a game. Jordan was the best, he was just three-dimensional in every way in every phase of the game. game, especially in the final stretch. I think LeBron in this year's playoff race, I think he's done a much better job than in previous years and he's been a finisher.

Well, the answer to that would be that he has to because you know Pippen is one of the 50 greatest players of all time, other than Dwyane Wade in his entire career, you know who else he's had in that regard. I know Bosh, you know the way the game is played, you know the game is just a different game. Today I would have loved to see LeBron play in our era, but I would also love to see Jordan play this year because Jordan was not a 3-point shooter. Jordan wasn't a shooter per se, he was a scorer, so it would be fun to really see how the different styles would play, you know, if I put Jordan in this era without hand control.

I mean, the guy averaged 37 points a night with hand control, what would that translate to today's game where there are points you can't touch? them and but then I would love to see LeBron with the physique that he has because he is physically, I mean, he is just an imposing figure. I would love to have seen him play against those physiques and have someone with bars on his arms that I would have loved to have seen. how he would have played against Charles Oakley, Rick Mahorn and Buck Williams and the physicality of the game, so it would have been fun to play, but without a doubt I want to say this about LeBron James: this generation is the best. player and I think Jordan was clearly that generation is the best player now who is the best I think I'm biased, I would say Michael Jordan just because mentally what he was capable of doing and he knew it Michael Jordan is not going to back down from any Level of competition or any player you know that comes up.
I think LeBron James would accept the challenge because he will pose some problems for a player like Jordan, any player because he is 6-8 at 60, but I would have loved to see the matchup. but I will say that Michael Jordan without a doubt is really true, he never knew what the score of the game was. I mean, was that really the case? BJ, well, I think he knew what the score was, but he made a conscious effort to always address it. the game as if the game was always 0-0 was a unique perspective because Michael Jordan always wanted to play that possession and he got caught up like in that moment and that's what I learned about him, you never know when you wake up 20 there's a natural tendency to getting disappointed there is a natural tendency to maybe regress Michael Jordan was always zero zero always if you ask him today what the score of the game is he will always get close to zero zero what kept him going at that moment he never let you down constantly kept the pressure on you offensively defensively mentally emotionally even in the group meeting even in the group meeting and if you asked him what the score was it was zero zero and that to me was a different way to approach the game and there were so many things were different in the way that He approached the game the way I or a lot of other NBA players, I mean, who goes out and you're up 20 and you keep playing if the score was tied, but he did that, he, he, to practice that way, that was his approach to practicing, that was his approach to the game and if you ask him, ask Rich when you see him, he will without a doubt, say zero zero, but he would attack the young players as well. and to ask the young guys, we had something in Chicago called fool Phi and if we had a big hit, especially in the game, we would ask the younger players the rookies would say what the score of the game is and of course Ricky would look . he got up and counted the score of the game and that was a silly fine, so he wanted to make sure everyone else was involved in the game too, but it was our thing to know where the fools go when they're who. it was our it was our fund of money that we all had we all had a bear in case something happened on a team and we would shoot to make something happen like you know and we would like so you know better who is going to make the most free throws in practice or who's going to make shots or who's going to do things, so it was our little pot of money that we liked to play with the kids' money and we always had the Rich Eisen
