Fixing The World's ONLY Supercharged V8 Tesla Model S (Is Harder Than You Can Imagine)

machine and then see what uh, what we need, yeah, sure, yeah, we see what. man, see what you see, see, see, see, see, what's been missing all this time, well, we'll see, hopefully, I don't know, uh, I don't know anything about this car, so good luck, so take a look at this, yeah. I don't think it's ever been completely adjusted correctly, you know, I think it's like a generic map, you know, where you just scale from idle to um to increase fuel, but I don't think it's been adjusted in steps, since it's negative vacuum, like cruise and idle, and then when I start stepping, the car will start accelerating and all that, it's just a normal generic fuel map, um, so it's almost like a base. map just that's what it looks like, it looks like a basemap, um, a good idle start.

Half dead map, you know what I'm saying, and then, and then the map that also looks very generic, so no. It sounds like none of that has been set up or scaled, none of those transitions to what you need and to boost, that's probably why the car was running rich, you said yes and you know, so there's still quite a bit of work that needs to be done. do on this, but um, the idols and everything lights up, that's just part of the problem, but or part of the situation there, but it needs some work, but it's not like it's not doable, so it's very doable, just seeing the thing as a whole without touching anything and then seeing where we see where we are at once once things start to set up, they start to set up correctly, so when you plugged everything in, you noticed that there was something wrong with it. codes uh what were the error codes you were saying man?

I think it's a Christmas tree, you have a lot of throttle codes, uh, um, so the throttle could be a problem, yeah, you have a lot of throttle codes, a lot of them are the throttle codes and the throttle codes. voltage and voltage reference, do you have the ECU temp code like you mentioned, could it be the throttle body or is it software? It could be, you know, or I'm going to test, I'm going to see if it's if it has like the throttle has been scaled so that it knows that it's accelerating and make sure it's set correctly maybe maybe it's out of control maybe it's trying that you know you're pushing the throttle down and it's never been scaled or it's never been like um calculated calibrated so you know, I don't know, I just look at everything as a whole, clear the codes, see what I come up with and what can I do and then I start seeing what codes come back and what. the codes don't come back and work that way, yes there was a complaint early on that the ECU was having some overheating issues and we don't know if that is a component that is perhaps feeding back to the ECU. the wiring could be a bad ground connection it could be a lot of things so we just have to figure something out, it could be that Tesla is really mad at the internal combustion engine and is trying to kill it, who knows, but, yeah, I think Yeah.

Once we know what the car needs, we can put it together or start ordering parts and then hopefully have this on the dyno. I don't know if it's this episode, probably not, but I just wanted to see what it is. the car needs what about gas it needs gas right it needs gas and I think it's here look at that so wait wait two hours later so I have no idea how much fuel is in here let's put in 5 gallons and that's it a 10 gallon fuel cell, if it overflows, it overflows, you know it's always good to have more range in a Tesla.

I mean, it's a SEMA car, so it probably doesn't have anything in it, which is why we have a lot of fuel in our Tesla now. it's like the bathroom drain it's like a little bathroom plug like how are you supposed to do this from the bathtub to your race car like this it's like there's a little wire here but you have to put the wire in these now? hot rods that certainly take a while to get used to, so there's a radiator and the radiator doesn't have water up to here, which is difficult because the coolant hose doesn't actually get to the engine at all, which means right now it's

only

There's hot air in the engine, so let's put in a little more coolant.
I have to see what color it is and then maybe bleed the system so this doesn't overheat because Desmond says so. it was going up to 225° and we idled it for 5 minutes so we got some Valvoline coolant and it says US vehicle and a Tesla is a good US vehicle, it also says it's for GM and this is a General Motors. engine, so I'm going to cross my fingers and hope that's what they put in when they built this engine, oops, oops, there we go, this thing had a bunch of TPS codes, throttle codes, so I recalibrated the driveby. cable just so you know where it is, um, throttle off, now it's reading from wherever it is and when I open it fully it goes up to 90 90 90% throttle and it's like going through each tab step by step. step to see how it's set up what's wrong what needs to be fixed what needs to be adjusted um and I already turned it on and yes the free revs are much better now like it doesn't have that rich break or the rich type of like pop, like when I free, could free Riv like over 6,000 now let's go for a ride today before the day is over and see what the drivability is like make sure the car drives good like Freddy said it's not his car.
So I don't want to open up too much yet, but we're just here to see where the mistakes are, what we can fix, and how we can overcome these problems. Well, Scott, what do we have here? So, this is a replica of the 1967 Lama. Markv GT40 winner made by RCR replicas in Detroit, so it has a clear combination of Cleveland Windsor, uh, 351 stroke with a 427, so it makes 540 horsepower, 539 lb-ft of torque and it's 37 tall, so it's like a gt37, not a GT40 um. but I've never seen a replica of the Mark 4, so it has a longer tail instead of a wedge at the rear.
The Mark 2 had 66 victories. If you watched Ford versus Ferrari, this car was on the set and was going to be used in the second one. to the last scene when Dan Gurnie pulls up to the hangar, but they got into a bit of a fight over money for the use of the car, so they just modified a Mark I for that scene, so it never appeared in the movie, but I never did. I've seen. a Markv replica so when I saw my friend Todd Rosenthal from Naples Motorsports had the car I told him he had to send it to me so I can market it and sell it for you so this is a really very rare piece if it were original. the

one that exists, there were 12, they are J Cars, the only red car, the W 167, is owned by Ford and it's hard to say it's probably worth $10 million, this car, the value is still to be determined, but it's very faithful . replica and it's a blast to drive, what would you guess if you had to put a number on it?
You know, more or less 300 thousand dollars. It is quite unusual, there was a lot of manual work and the chassis is spectacular. The original 12 cars were a little bit challenged, they had a new process for making the chassis and it was a little bit challenging and I'm not so sure they were really looked at as well as what this car has become, so basically we got the style and the charm of the 67 car with all the modern technologies that would be much better when you actually drive it and it also has air conditioning, that's a nice thing, of course the real car would have been correct, and in Drive there will be many subtle changes, but they are wheels unique knockoffs that were specifically made to look the same, so it's a pretty fun car, it says it can't be charged, oh no, okay, we're neutral, now this screen should turn on, here we go, if that screen turns on, It should have power steering. at some point, hopefully, the brakes won't break on a cable or something like that if the Tesla decides it doesn't like things, here we go.
I have power steering, now the center screen doesn't work, but that's okay so on we go. a little test just normal normal driving because we don't have access to a Dyno right now neutral and then first of all that's annoying yeah that's a oh that Rock engine yeah there we go okay that's the Second, you really have to handle it. so that's interesting now, we should be in second place second, no that's not third, I think it's third, this says it's fourth, cerate a little faster, uh, you go a little faster, yeah, Like I said, I know it will drive normal. now I saw what it was like how it was set up before the fuel tables were out of whack, yeah like a lot of the settings were out of whack or what's up with this, it's probably not like that, it's probably not right fuel timing. what is the screen i hope it's the first thing it says it's the first thing but man we have a v8

tesla

and the temp stays cold now the temp stays good 205 206 sweet so the only problem we are What we have right now is that we don't have any signal from the wideband O2 sensor and that sensor essentially tells us how much fuel and how much air is coming out of the exhaust essentially telling the car if it's too rich or too lean, if there's too much fuel or too much fuel. low on fuel so it's like Flying Blind but honestly it drives well, there is a misalignment issue that it doesn't like, it really doesn't like getting into third.
I mean, I think we're in third place now, he didn't explode, he didn't die in a Tesla V8. I call that a win now, look at it right now too, that means the thermostat is probably getting stuck because while you were moving it, you probably forced the thermostat open, yeah and all that, but now it's starting to get a little warm, but just needs a new thermostat. there, so I think it's sticky, yeah, okay, let's turn it off, let it cool down a little bit and then, yeah, at some point we should put this on the dyno.
Thank you so much man, I really appreciate it anytime. guys anytime
