Fixing My WORST Gaming PC

Jun 03, 2021
- Hi guys, I'm Austin. This was not my best work. Now, for less than $300, it's a powerful computer. However, it leaves a little to be desired, so I'll fix it today. Well, not really today. I have one more thing I need to do first. - Welcome to Australia. Local time here in Sydney is 18 minutes. (upbeat music) - Asus recently sponsored my trip to Australia, where I attended the launch of the ZenBook Pro Duo. It's a lot of noise here! I made a whole video about this a couple months ago, but it's ridiculous. Not only do you have a 4K OLED, but you also have a secondary display right below it.

Both screens are touch and since Windows has a dual screen setup, everything works. You can place your editor on both screens or have tons of notes open at once. I mean, these ScreenPad Plus are really legit. Inside, it's cool, well, almost everything, including a Core i9 processor, RTX 2060, WiFi 6, Thunderbolt 3, you name it. So if you're interested in one of the best laptops of the year, definitely be sure to check out the ZenBook Pro Duo in the description. And many thanks to ASUS for inviting me to their event. Alright, back to Micro Center to make some updates.

I. - Welcome back. - Thanks man, I appreciate it. - Good to see you, man. - So I think the first thing I want to do is get a little better board. Because last time I chose the A320. I was thinking maybe an ASUS B450. - I know I have the B450M-A right here. - Oh, okay, Prime boards, I like these. It's good, awesome. - What other thing? We have your board. - Easy. Dashboard, so maybe we should go to the power supply. - Possibly yes. What power supply did we get last time? - Do not worry it's alright. - Alright?

I have the EVGA right here for sale. - I love it, done. - For $39.99. - That's much better. - 500 watts, full power. - Honestly, I think 590 might be the best decision. - The best decision? - I mean $180, yeah, let's do it. - I really like this one, this is the Q300L. - I love the front of that. - Yeah, that's sweet man. - It's actually mesh so you can easily dust it off. - Yes. - It's just a metal front. Put it back on. - I feel like it's the only thing missing, and I can't believe I'm about to say this. -RGB? -RGB. -RGB! - Do you have a couple of strips that we can easily add to the top and bottom? - We'll see.

So that guy only costs $15.99. - Well. Oh, it's magnetic. - Exactly. - Oh, no need for adhesive. - I have never used a magnetic RGB strip. Now I think we have everything we need to rebuild my

PC. - Wait, I have something. - What, oh no. Wait, where are you going? Oh no. Ken, stop. - RGB mount, oh no. - Oh no (laughs). - Oh no (laughs). I don't know if I should say oh no or oh yes. You don't fully understand it... - Until you really see it. Oh yes, there it is. We can make the PC case blue like RGB. - Oh no, oh, now I regret everything.
This is supposed to be about

version of PC, not ruining it even more. - Screw it up? - How is this getting ruined? - I feel like I'm falling behind right now. - I like him. (everyone laughs) - Then it's time to upgrade my worst

PC. So if you're not familiar with this version, I want to say it's not bad for the price. I mean we have a Ryzen 5 1600. Perfectly respectable six-core processor. We have GT 1030, a little weaker. In addition, we have a 120 gigabyte SSD. My main problem with this system is that, well, it doesn't have a casing.
It has a detonator. And also the power supply is questionable at best. So, let's fix it up a bit, shall we? And by fix I mean, forget that this is how it used to look. I'm going to make it look much better now. So all in all, we're looking at around $600, including all of our RGB accessories. Not bad considering I think this should be a much less explosive looking computer. (laughs) I forgot how light this was. It literally weighs nothing. That can stay there. - Take this. I'm going to throw this in the trash. Where it belongs. - With that we have our Ryzen 1600x processor.
Now, this is not the most powerful chip in the world. However, we only paid $80 for this and at that price it's not too bad. So the first thing I'm going to do is start putting together our new board. Check it out. What an excellent application of thermal paste. And just like that, we have an updated motherboard. Next, let's add: are you on your phone while you're filming? - Yes. - Are you literally holding the camera with one hand so you can browse Twitter? Are you on the Roboraptor account or something? - I received direct messages, so I needed to check it. - Do you have direct messages?
Well, I'm making a video right here. I don't know if you noticed, this is a real job, not a DM. - Yes, all this seems the same to me. We already did this once. - Now we choose to continue with the same eight gigabytes of RAM from the last system. Mainly for budgetary reasons. This was pretty cheap and it's very easy to upgrade this guy to 16 gigs when we need it. But at least for what we're doing now, this should be a big improvement. Also, especially for a build like this, I like to use a slightly smaller case.
There's really no point in wasting a lot of space on your desk when you can have something a little cleaner. Oh friend, look at this! Look how much room we have for cable management back here. - Oh, look at that, you can put your mess in. - Man, you know what the fun part is? I went through all the trouble of building that stupid mining case. This is only like $10 or $15 more. - I probably should have done that. - I should have done this from the beginning, man. I believe these are all mounting holes. - Hope for? - I can put it up and down in any orientation.
Dude, this is such a clever design. So we'll leave the fan there for now. Next, let's go ahead and connect the power supply. I didn't even realize, it's actually sunken. Hope for? It's like sunken, that's strange. Look, when I actually mount the power supply. Oh wait, there's a stand? No what? - No, that's... - Oh, you know what? Because there's no water here, so you have to do it, right? - It's not, yes. - I think the power supply needs to be lowered a little, right? That will be the final. - Yes, that's all, yes. - Oh I do not know.
That's weird. Okay, yeah, that's the first thing I don't like about this case. Oh no, wait. That's it (sighs). Do you have to remove the PCI covers before installing the motherboard? That's really stupid. Wait, let me see if I can do it lazily. - It seems like it's just getting clearer. - No, it's like scraping the side of the board. Don't ever try this at home. Here we go. This is how it is solved. Just fold it in the other direction. So at this point we have pretty much all of our components in the case. Our Ryzen 5 1600.
Eight gigs of RAM, the RX 590. Plus our B450 motherboard. The 256 gig NVMe SSD. The 120 gigabyte SATA SSD. As well as our 500W power supply. And now it's really time to do some cable management and start thinking about how we're going to run our RGB. (upbeat music) Wait, what are you doing? Wait, wait, what did you do? Wait, what is that? What are you doing? - Don't worry about that. - What's that? - Look, I set the colors appropriately. - I asked you to finish the RGB. What are you doing? - I made the colors really cool and I thought I had an idea.
We combine color with everything. They are like Miku's colors, it has the Miku figure. We got our amazing mouse pad from the wonderful Micro Center. - They are not sponsoring this video. - They don't sponsor this video but they let us film there again. Thank you. And we also have this mouse pad. I needed everything to match, so we made everything match. (Austin groans) -So while Ken is here adjusting his RGB and playing with his little figures, I set up the PC and got it ready. So I was able to do a little adjustment. It really wasn't that hard, but I was able to overclock the Ryzen 5 to 3.9 on all cores.
I was able to overclock not only the memory but also the core frequency of the GPU. We're getting about 10% more CPU performance and about 15% more GPU performance compared to stock. And the good thing is that before you put a figure in my way, everything was working fine. But now my airflow is affected by it. - There is a significant amount of volume there to keep the air flowing. - You are literally blocking. It's like almost directly in front of the CPU. - Not well. - I don't know why you, I left you alone for like five minutes. - Alright. - I'm going to finish the RGB. - Alright. - It's almost touching the fan. - Here, here, here, here, I have it, I have it.
Okay, that didn't work for you. Alternatively, just place it there. - That is better. Not blocking the airflow that I have so carefully overclocked. - Alright. You're thinking about it too much. - Well, actually I will say that, from the front, it looks very good. - No, not really, although we are talking about truth. - It actually looks very good. - With the LEDs we put in here, you can see them a little bit through the mesh design, which is nice. This is a great case. Really, very good case. - Now that the Fortnite apocalypse is over, let's see how it plays out here.
So one of the nice things about this is that not only do we have that six-core processor, but the RX 590 is not a bad card, especially for 1080p. We shouldn't have any problems. And since we're using a 1440p FreeSync monitor, we can go a little higher than that. Look, it's the Rewind video. I'm happy there's a new Fortnite map because that means everyone else is as clueless as I am. Well, right now we're getting 1440p at about 45 frames per second. You probably want to turn things down a bit, but since we're using a FreeSync monitor, it actually looks pretty good.
Let me narrow that down quickly. 1440p high and we're getting about 60 fps. Chug, chug, chug, chug, chug, chug, chug. Oh no. Wait, I don't want to come down here. I just need to kill someone with my cool PC. That way everyone will know how cool I am. That? I can hide. That? This is great. From now on I'll be hiding in dumpsters in Fortnite. I came this far and I still haven't found anyone. This is great. Come on, fish. Come on, fish. Come on, fish. - There you go, take it. - No, I do not like.
In fact, I have never gotten this far in a game of Fortnite. - Well, you have to face it. - I think it? - Yes, you have to press. - What if everyone died? - You have to put pressure. No, don't shoot the wall. Okay, yeah, there you have it. There you have it, you have it. Yes, there you have it. - Yes, what, what? - Wow! - I just killed someone in Fortnite and there are only eight people left? - Well, pay attention to the screen, and let's see if you can get your chicken dinner, or whatever the Fortnite equivalent is. (Austin hums) - Don't mind me, I'm just healing in a corner. - Ah, there you have it. (Austin applauds) Wow. - Yeah!
What's up what's Up? No you don't, no you don't. Yeah! That? Why is everyone bad right now? This is great. What the hell is going on? - Are these robots? - Now there are only three people left. No! Curse! I got multiple kills. I came in third place, see? I've never made it to the top 10 before. I've gotten at most one kill. I got three kills in third place. Yeah, yeah, what's up? - Congratulations. - I'm going to be like the children. - Jesus Christ (moans). - No, it's like. It is this? Wait, no, you have to do the legs thing, right? - (moans) No.
No. No, not difficult. - Look, I was going to play a few more games, but I think this is really all you need to know about the wonderful PC that rose from the ashes of, well, this one. It was a questionable decision. It was something that didn't work well, but fortunately it was completely fixed and, thanks to it, Fortnite is now back. You're welcome, everyone. Thank you so much for watching this episode of Austin Fixes (bleep) that I shouldn't have done in the first place. - Is that the video? - Yes, I think that's all.
