Ferrari F8 Spider Review: The Greatest V8 | 4K

Jun 05, 2021
The 308 F430 458 Italia Time has blessed us with a rich history of Ferraris V8s, the latest being the new F8 which carries the most powerful Ferrari V8 of all time. It is a car built by Ferrari to celebrate not only this achievement but also to honor its ability. to constantly create the best, the hero takes center stage again, I've seen this movie before, but as good as Ferrari's V8s are, there are plenty of rivals out there, a multitude of them that, frankly, deliver similar performances, all the emotion and theater that we associate. with v8 prancing horses that's no longer exclusive to marinello, so if you're going to celebrate with a car, that celebration better be pretty epic, epic is definitely an understatement, this thing is outrageous, the f8

spider

is the convertible version of the f8 triplet. which is the replacement for the 488gtb apparently according to

ferrari

it is a slightly less harsh version of the 488 pista but if this isn't extreme acceleration I don't know what is, this car was built to be a celebration of

ferrari

's powerful v8 engines and the one is behind has to be one of the best of all time.

It's basically the engine from the 488 Pista, so it makes a whopping 720 metric horsepower, the same as the McLaren 720. It'll have 62 in 2.9. seconds at 211 miles per hour at full throttle and will do nothing until 124 miles per hour in 7.6 seconds, which is faster than most hot hatches go from zero to 60. It's devastatingly fast once your feet are connected correctly, the f8's 770 newton meters of torque is as urgent as you'd expect from a high-performance turbocharged engine but with such minimal lag you'd swear it was naturally aspirated. There is a problem though I mean what is wrong with these pedals.

More Interesting Facts About,

Why is the brake pedal so close to the accelerator? I'm literally pressing both at once. I can't last a second. Sorry, this is a little embarrassing. It's not that I have big feet. I'm a size 11. I'll tell you what these Italian designers do. Don't think about UK foot sizes, are they onwards? So the engine is a winner, then it is an international engine of the year 2016 engine of the year 2017 engine of the year 2018 engine of the year 2019 an engine from the last 20 years is fabulous in all Just one aspect except one, it actually doesn't sound that good Let me show you what I mean, the F8's engine is not exactly the same as the one on the track because the exhaust has a gas particulate filter installed which means it doesn't sound as good as you would expect.

I'll prove it here: it's a very beautiful old Ferrari 360. It's the great-grandfather of this car and this thing has no turbos or gas particulate filters and it sounds like, yeah, 122 decibels. the f8, in contrast, sounds like this, yes, 106 decibels, this thing might sound like the

greatest

engine ever, but it sure doesn't sound like that, you could argue that it doesn't sound like much of a celebration either, it might have a new name, but uses the same platform and very similar design cues as the cars that came before you put the f8 next to your dad and grandpa and you might have a hard time telling them apart without a very thorough examination, so let's do exactly that, starting with the At the rear, the F8 has a set of quad circular brake lights on the 488, you had twins and I think this is actually a much better implementation.

I'm also a big fan of these centrally mounted exhausts and of course the huge rear diffuser around the side. I have 20-inch wheels front and rear with carbon ceramic brakes and these beautiful blue brake calipers that match the blue leather interior, but there are many very demanding aerodynamic elements in the profile of this car, for example, these door handles. optimized aerodynamic doors and this fin on the air intake plus these shark fins on the lower sills, this one especially for me is a little too big and interrupts the beautiful design of this car at the front, definitely the best angle of this car , there are a couple of elements you should know first. and especially the lights of the old 488, extended the entire length of this J-shaped section here, but now they stop halfway again for aerodynamic reasons.
Air now flows into these channels and is drawn into the wheel arch to cool the brakes and also relieve pressure. In the wheel arch, the second very nice element that you want to know about is the S duct, which you may be familiar with. Is that how it works. Air enters this lower channel, folds back on itself, and flows over the hood and roof of the car. to provide very cool front downforce, very stylish, but not as much as this, let me show you the trunk of this car, here you have a fairly large opening for suitcases and other luggage, and speaking of luggage, you have a couple of exquisite men's bags . one is for your tire puncture repair kit and the second is a small tool kit containing screwdrivers and other parts that will allow you to perform running repairs on your f8 and the best addition within this is this look, a small pair of white gloves that will allow you to change your tires without getting your hands dirty, I mean your gloves will get dirty but how cool is that shimon, it's little touches like this that give you a feel good factor when driving a ferrari and there is an addition which should add an even bigger feel good factor is the roof, this is the f8

spider

which means it is a drop roof and you can operate the roof in as little as 15 seconds at speeds up to 30 miles per hour and with the roof With the car lowered it takes on a completely different character, you start to appreciate it not for its tough nature but for how good it makes you feel, you start to notice things like the amount of space you have in a McLaren, you and your passenger are practically one on top of the car. another, but in You have so much space that you start to notice things like the amazing seats that not only look great but are also supportive and very comfortable.
You have bumpy road mode. You press the button on the steering wheel and it just softens the suspension and allows you to glide over road imperfections you have Apple Carplay you have a little screen down there so your passenger knows exactly what's going on at any given moment but then you start to notice something Potentially catastrophic with the top down, the structural rigidity of the car is greatly decreased, there is noticeable body flex giving the car a nervous, disjointed feel, the steering wheel closes, the body shakes and flexes, you can hear it and feel it move and, as a result, the experience is less pleasant.
It's been common years ago, but not so much nowadays, it's a floor and any floor on a 225,000 pound Ferrari shines brightly and then you realize that this car may be new, but the aluminum chassis on which it it settles is old, a mclaren with its carbon fiber monocoque. It feels super rigid whether the roof is up or down, it feels like it's carved from solid granite. This thing feels like it's carved out of gelatin. What feels especially disappointing is when you drive slowly, but I found a solution for that, never drive slowly. thankfully speed is never too far away in this car, it's outrageously fast, this engine deserves all the praise you want to give it, it's brilliant but honestly the star of the show isn't the engine, it's the seven speed manual gearbox from Ferrari, it is a 3.9 liter engine. v8 is tremendous, these carbon fiber paddle shifters feel amazing in your hands and work so well they shift quickly and smoothly up and down through the gearbox, but then you twist the mandatino, put it into career mode and suddenly the velvet glove turns to iron. fist and the shifts become violent, it sends a shutter to the entire car and makes the entire driving experience much more involving.
Ah, who cares about manual gearboxes when you have a box as good as this to drive the F8? As you'd expect, the steering is the highlight: quick, not twitchy and full of feel, allowing you to place the car where you want but react quickly when the situation demands it. There's plenty of grip in this car, so you feel immensely confident leaning into the front. In the end and letting the tires do the work quite often in mid-engined supercars the rear end can feel twitchy and unpredictable, especially when dealing with large amounts of power, but there's nothing like that in this, really.
There is a lovely balance to this car. It feels tremendously fast, don't get me wrong, but it also feels adequately under control. Much of that control is handled by Ferrari's electronic systems. The F8 uses the latest version of Ferrari's Side Slip Angle Control and Dynamic Boost, plus applies brakes to the inside wheel. To minimize the potential for understeer, is it as capable and fun as it should be? Yes, is it as capable and fun as it could be? No, and that's something that's scary. This car is still brilliant even though it uses an aging chassis. So imagine how good the next generation of V8 will be.
The F8 is an exceptional supercar, but is it a fitting tribute to the impressive Ferrari V8s of yesteryear? The simple answer is yes, objectively it is a better car than the previous ones thanks to a superlative Engine that continues to improve from generation to generation. Ferrari faces stiff competition from rivals, some of whom have offered faster alternatives with better chassis construction, especially in convertibles, but the F8 remains an exceptional machine. It's a reminder that this Ferrari V8 really all v8 ferraris should be celebrated so that you
