ferrari

488

pista

spider

yes that's right I'm going to give you a full update on what it's like to own, drive and enjoy this fabulous special Ferrari and then I'll answer all

your

questions

about this car so if it sounds like their special brand of vodka, let's get on with it, welcome everyone to the 488

pista

spider

, specifically my 4th pista spider, and many of you would have seen my entire journey with this car from the time Jason and I specced it in Italy, I had so much fun doing it during the agonizing wait and then the pickup day and then of course my epic road trip through France and Italy.
ferrari 488 pista spider my verdict your questions answered thecarguys tv
This car has already covered 2,936 miles, which I suspect puts it in the upper echelon of 48 pieces to spider mileage, and as you can see, I'm not afraid to drive it in less than optimal conditions, it's five degrees outside, it's a little slippery and obviously there is a lot of dirt on the roads because it is winter. One of the best things about modern Ferraris is that you can actually use them every day and not really worry about the conditions you drive in. They will accept anything. Could you legitimately use them as a daily driver? Absolutely yes, you could do it.

Start every time it will get you where you need to go and is much more comfortable than you think, considering this is the track-oriented version. Now remember this is part of a noble high performance v8 Ferrari bloodline that goes all the way back. 348 gt competizione and moving forward in the epic challenge to darey the 430 scuderia the 458 spectale and now of course the 488 pista but of course this is even more special because this is the convertible version which means it is part of the 16m the 458 speciali and now the 488 pista spider opening that roof gives you a much greater appreciation of the engine in these cars which was especially true with the 16m and the aperta special less with this 488 pista twin turbo, it's a lovely crude but i wouldn't exactly call it . musical the 16m were made in 2009 and they made 499 of those, then in 2014 and 15 they made the 458 speciali aperta again 499 and then from 2019 to 2020 they made the track spiders.

Your guess is as good as mine as to how many there have been. Given that they are not individually numbered and also given Ferrari's current predilection for flashy models, I suspect there are many more of these than their predecessors, what I do know is that this is the 50th Ferrari convertible now manufactured, as you already know. I've been waiting for this car from scratch and I'm incredibly pleased with the result. It has exceeded my wildest dreams of how good this car looks in person when you see it on a sunny day or when the winter sun is low like it is today.

It looks fabulous with that main paint in grigio ferro and then with a nero stellato and gold stripe. It's such a classy machine, not forgetting of course that I also have the chocolate alcantara interior, which I appreciate, it may be a bit marmite, but I think. It fits the color scheme of this car perfectly and I love it. Two things I wish I would have done if I could go back and respect him. I would have done the rings on this center spine here. I would have made the outer rings in gold. Just to have matched that gold theme and I think I would have also put the rev counter in gold or brown again to tie it in with the interior.
I just went with the classic black, but it probably would have been a nice custom touch to have. gold, what do you think? What do I like about this car? Well, obviously the exterior styling of the Pista and the Pista Spider is quite magnificent, it's very aggressive and there are so many interesting shapes, vents, vinyl things and curves, it's a real event. standing in front of it and just looking at it let alone watching it pass by is a masterpiece. I love the interior and I love the way the brown sits next to the shiny carbon.
I knew it would look good. It's magnificently fast when you really wind it up, something you can't really do on the road. They say many modern supercars are too fast for the road and none more so than this. It's completely crazy. It leaves you breathless. It really does. I like a lot. the fact that at low speed it makes quite a bit of noise, there's a lot of thuds and sputters and you know, deep growls that happen at city type speeds, which is good because it makes it feel like a growling animal, that's what you don't want Euro legislation completely eliminates the sounds of these cars and what Ferrari has done, although they have sacrificed it in the high range and it is not a musical car by any means, they have really tuned the bass is a little more of an event and you can hear this from miles away.
Obviously I love the gold wheels. It was the best possible decision. They make me smile every time I look at it and I'm a big fan too. from the fact that, unlike the spatially open 458, you can raise or lower the roof while on the move and that makes a big difference in terms of everyday usability. What don't I like about the car? Well of course there are a lot of things I didn't like about the 458 and the 488 because of course they are pretty much the same platform. I don't like the archaic two screens where you operate with two different types of buttons, which is still horrendous and means you can't access many of the functions. functions of the car while you are moving because it would be dangerous obviously I don't like the turn signals but that's a fact, it was the same for the 458, it was the same for the 488 gtb, I didn't like the brakes either. when I first bought it and it required a lot of material to make the brakes work properly.
If you buy a track-oriented Ferrari with ceramic brakes, you expect them to work immediately and perfectly, and I'm afraid they do in this car. I just didn't need to brake hard to make this car perform like I think it should and now it does, but really it should have been done from the factory, like with Porsche? What I can report is that the Pista Spider is not as special as the 458 Speciali Aperta. It doesn't have the same enthusiasm, it doesn't give you the same electric responses and most importantly it doesn't give you the wink that the 458 does. but one of the most disappointing aspects of this car is the steering, it's obviously electric but it has almost no life, you don't get any of the sensations that you get on spatulas four, five, eight and it doesn't give you any satisfying feeling about what it is. passing by on the road and that's a big disappointment coming from the Ferraris of yesteryear, where you drove them with

your

fingertips, there is no magic in the steering of this car, obviously, it wouldn't be a car guys episode without it I mentioned the Horrible Stop and Start which of course now unfortunately for all modern Ferraris means you can't turn it off completely.
You have to turn it off every time you get in the car. Every time you go out for a walk, you have to remember to turn it off. or it will cut off at some point during your trip. I hate that, oh, the turning circle on this car isn't very good. I know you probably guessed it because it's a track version, but it's surprisingly bad, but I have to say so far. The enjoyment levels of owning this car have been quite high. He is enormously competent. It can be used every day. It's lovely. It's incredibly fast.
It does pretty much everything you want in a supercar. One advantage about the 488 platform over the 458 is that it feels much tighter. solid, feels more glued to the road, whether it's bigger rubber or dynamic, you feel much more absorbed by the road than in a 458, there is not that dancing and sailing feeling that you get with the 458, He is much more crouched. That of course also makes it feel heavier, so it feels like a heavier car than the 458, but when you're going on twisty roads, like I'm doing now, it gives you a lot more confidence. I'm not getting as much confidence. you feel it through the steering, but the car itself feels secure.
The biggest problem with the 488 pista is the 458 spectali because it shows you what you can have. Oh, there's an owl that just flew right through the car. Beautiful morning, Mr. Owl, almost 3,000 miles on and so far it's been a glorious experience, a few small wrinkles, but nothing that has put me off this car, nothing that has made me think for a moment that I would like to get rid of it, As far as I'm concerned, this car stays. forever and I know some of you are skeptical about it, even though it was very expensive and even though it has a custom paint job and it's personal to me because I created it from scratch, I don't feel valuable about it at all.
I don't want to keep it locked in a garage. I'm very happy to drive it to the end of the world. I think it should be time to grab some beans, ladies and gentlemen. Oh yeah, now what are we going to do. What I'm doing is we're going to answer your

questions

, so thank you very much, everyone sent me a ton of questions on Instagram and YouTube, so first question after owning the 458 Speciale, do you mind the silenced exhaust on the piece? Spider 488? If it does. It's not that great, I really like the growl and I would have to say that although it's not a great noise, I don't have any plans to upgrade the exhaust and put an aftermarket exhaust on it.
Where can this car be used in its full capacity? simple answer the track or maybe scotland gives you that special tingle good question not as much as you think it gives me a special tingle because I appreciate how beautiful it is and it's a new

ferrari

and it's the best variant of the track so you feel a little bit tingling, but not as much as with the aperta, if you were forced to keep only one, which would be four five eight per perta or four or eight pieces of spider, obviously, Robert the 458 aperta. It's just a more special car.
Will the spider piece hold its value well? No, I don't think anything will hold its value from now on, but I think this one will hold its value perhaps more than the standard beast and more than any 488. gtb or spider, how's the front license plate? They seem susceptible to falling. Yes, they do and I've noticed it, but you're right, this one has stuck firmly, which when you're traveling in France it's kind of like that. A relief, why didn't you ask a youtuber to specify your car? It's trendy right now, yeah, yeah, I'm not going to do that.
It's not a trend I want to continue. How many of these cars do you think? Ferrari made, probably I guess between 1,000 and 1,200, would you take it to a track one day? Yes, absolutely, I would. I'm not valuable enough not to take it to the track and I'm very interested to see what it would do. It would be like exploring the limits of this car. I think it would be quite fun. Is it everything you hoped it would be? Did you know? Yes, I think it's beautiful, it's fast, it's a little numb and it feels a little more massive. produced than maybe previous generations, so yeah, I actually think it's perfect for what I expected it to be.
Do you worry about vandalism in public places? I've conditioned myself not to worry about it. I think if you care about that, you would. never take the car out, so the vandals or the idiots or the morons, as I like to call them, would win. So if people's behavior dictates the way you behave, then they won and I wouldn't want to give them that satisfaction. This car has apple carplay no it doesn't why because with ferrari it costs 2000 pounds how much hate do you feel on the road, you know what? I have not experienced any hate with this car, is it true that you have I have to keep this car on a trickle charger and if the battery dies it will cost eight thousand dollars.
I'm not sure about eight thousand dollars, but it's true that my Ferrari dealer went out of his way to tell me to charge it slowly. Now I haven't done that strictly every night and nothing happened, but they did make that specific point. What is the most ridiculously priced option you could have had? Well overall Ferrari paint seems to be made of magic pixie dust costing millions of pounds per liter paint is now by far the most expensive option it's not unusual to spend £20,000 on paint for a car and you can go much crazier if you choose a unique and custom color, keep in mind this car not only had the classic grigio ferro that would have cost so much, it also had the stripe in two different special colors that cost so much and of course so stupid or perhaps incredibly intelligent, it also had painted shields and they are like that.
So the paint on this car added up to exactly this, which I agree is stunning, but when you look at the car, it's worth every penny if it were your only car. Could you do it daily? Absolutely. Ferrari has now become so adept at creating. more reliable and more robust cars you could absolutely use this every day without any problems how is it different from the 488 gtb well it's a matter of everything fitting the answer is speed, steering, directness, all those things probably increase by about 15 when you're on the track the difference is huge the track makes the 488 gtb feel like a german taxi how often do people try to race you?
Not so often. I'm quite surprised, I think maybe because this is in a more subtle way People of color don't really realize what it is, maybe it's because of where I am in the country, becauseWhat with being in the new forest, there aren't usually so many crazy races, no, I can't get anyone to try to compete with me. Which I am very grateful for. How come the stereo is absolutely garbage? But frankly, who cares? Because I very rarely listen to it. Do you worry about the waste? value of putting miles on it no, I'm just having fun driving it I don't care about the value I don't care if it's up or down uh I'm just having fun driving the car do you wash it yourself or is it better to do so? by a good professional, in this case I think it is better to have a professional do it, so Jake, in the first choice, details that he tends to do this car exclusively.
I never try to wash it myself, is it because it's ppf? Actually, it's not because it's very expensive. paint and painted shields, yes, the pista will probably be the last new Ferrari I buy. A very interesting question and I think I'll leave it for the full episode. Has your penis gotten smaller since you bought it? It is simply not possible to be smaller. Dude, the noise is as good as your special, of course not, it's as fun as your 355 spider no, no, the 355 spider is more fun, it's faster, more competent, more reliable, probably less expensive to fix, but the 355 has charm, character and passion. and bravery and it surprises you and it's wonderful what's the difference between taylormade and atelier good question I wish I knew I think taylormade is when you really create options that haven't been done before, meaning different, you know, unique paint or unique stripes, atelier is simply where you go to Italy and do a sort of more enhanced speckling process than you would do at the dealership.
Is he a chick magnet? Well, obviously, not because I'm sitting on it. How much did the windshield repair cost? It was so much, which is scandalous. It's just a windshield. What happens at the end of your seven-year free service? Do you suddenly receive a huge bill in year 8? No, all that happens is that you have to start paying for the service. Did you choose the spider to make it easier? access the McDonald's window to watch future videos no, that didn't occur to me when I chose a spider, access to McDonald's was not the main requirement. Do you drive it more with the roof up or down at the moment because it's very cold, I tend to drive with the roof up, but like with the 718 Spider, I prefer to drive it with the roof down as much as possible and Certainly, when I was on my road trip to the Alps, I barely had the roof up. driving it with the top up right now because I want you to be able to hear me, but I'll put it down in a second and you can see exactly what it's like with the top down, put it down at about 30 miles per hour.
Here we go, the rear lid lifts, a rush of cold air as the roof opens and then lowers again. 14 seconds, boom, best roof in the business, so with the roof down, obviously it's a little bit colder, it's a little louder, but look at it. It's fantastic, all the joy of a Ferrari, but you can experience everything that is louder, smellier, better and yes, you still feel the flexibility in the chassis. Remember this is not a carbon tub, so you still feel flexible. You see that's what the spider is. With the top down, everything is magnified, you feel much more connected to the driving and I don't think the sound is as bad as people say.
I mean, it's still a lovely raw sound, like an instant F40 gear change, we don't do that. Enough said about that, we take it for granted now but it is surprising, yes you have to shift faster than in a naturally aspirated car which is a bit annoying and yes it doesn't sound as good but there is still a Very satisfying bellow you get from this car, listen to it, listen, you'd think the gun would be too harsh for roads like this but it's not even though this is the track variant of the 488 with the full road setup. bumps and with the way the car was set up it handles tough roads like this, no problem at all, oh that's cool, you've got all that power, you've got all that skill inspired by F1 technology and then there's no roof so you can enjoy it even more.
There you have it, those are your questions. I hope you enjoyed my answers. They were as honest and spontaneous as I could get. Now it's time to get back to the car.
