Faux White Marble Dinning Table Done Using Epoxy Resin (From Wood) | Step By Step Easy DIY Tutorial

Jun 04, 2021
thank you for joining us today on lagari products our

epoxy

kits are also very good for resurfacing

table

s or desks we used kit number one for this custom dining room

table

check out the process right here so I'm getting ready to do the primer this is a dining room La table that one of our friends built just had a baby so they really want it back so I'm trying to get him a dump so he built this out of

wood

really simple process we have a 3/4 MDF seat and then he made it I think two by fours sideways underneath for the thick edge that way he could screw his legs in there they bought some cheap legs and spray painted them.

This is going to look really cool, so that's awesome. They built it.

wood

and now we're going to cover it to make it look like

marble

so I'm applying my

white

or

white

primer and we mix it up and if you're applying large amounts it's obviously a good idea to just use a roller tray. I'll have more control, it's small. I do this a lot, so I'm going to throw out a pile and start spreading this. Since we're going over such a dark color, we may need to apply two coats of primer, like if I'm trying to go over a black counter and make it white.

You will need to apply two coats of primer and the most critical part is your faces and edges. You really want that nice, bright, white backsplash with the same paint on top. It's not as critical because it gets a lot thicker there, so I just spread it out and put some blowers on it. It drives the primer very quickly and obviously it will work faster if it has something to absorb and you're like wood versus Formica, where it's not really a porous surface, but I want to point out all these darker marks or where you did your bondo, so you borrowed all of them. the screw holes and then if you look at this edge, joined that scene, you want to make sure that all your seams are filled and there are no gaps and then what we did was we sanded this, we milled the top edge so it's rounded like that the material will flow nice and easily and now I'm going to do the second coat and you'll see how much better the second coat will be, how much wider this table will get with another coat, so it depends on priming a darker surface with white primer, okay, then it's time to apply the

epoxy

.

I have my pigmented white epoxy mixed. right here I'm going to hit the whole board, spread it out, roll my edges, it's going to start dripping, so I really have to watch my feet because this is sticking out of the counter. I don't want to get my feet dirty, so just keep this in mind when doing things like this on a table. I've already decided on the roller and I have my highlights tree measured here, so all you have to do is pour my hardware into that mixture and the highlights are there. ready to go, so we're just going to pour two beads, we're going to do one on this one, one on this one, he said, we're going to put one in the middle and then now that I've gotten a lot of product out, I'm just going to go around and hit it. on my edges, not, you know, right on the edge where it's sliding, but a little bit closer that way.

I'm not going to fight that with this finished product and if we run it over the edge, just push it back a little bit, okay, now again. I have already leveled the table, I have to make sure they are at the same level as most of the counters. I don't think we've ever had a problem with the counter not being level, but when you do things off site, always make sure it's level like this, so I'm just extending this and now once all these edges are covered , the product will flow evenly and we won't have to really touch these edges to make them look good, it will just flow and look like Cut it from something, okay, so now let that kind of level out.
I'm going to blend my highlights and we're going to do silver and again I've already measured this previously and this is our metallic silver, so we have a pigmented white. base and then we applied silver metals on it, okay, so they wanted longer, straighter veins, so instead of

using

a spatula on this and she made us miss a lot with our roller, I'm going to use a spatula and just flatten it out. this in all the different directions following the vein pattern and it won't blend those veins as much and they will be more dominant of how we spill them so the more random the better now what I'm going to do is I'm going to go to my edges, I'm going to put a little bit of product everywhere in the middle, just above the eggs, that way we can get some of these, they look like the top.
I'm also going to add a little bit more throughout. these run over the edge that way we get color on all of our edges, okay, that's all I'm going to put there. You see, I mix six ounces, you use two ounces, I use two ounces of material for all of this, so reflections are very helpful. Darker highlights are very useful on white colors, so now I'm going to start flattening this in a random way following the veins and tone it down once this evens out and the colors pop. I'm going to give it a really unique look and I also want to add patterns here in the middle.
I was leaving a little bit of that silver that highlights the different use of it, that's what we're after I don't know the south. edibility spread the color throughout it's more of a light mix and that's the look you're going for that's great because if I wanted to add a little more color I could do that right now but I think I like my cow. Looks great? I might add a little bit here just because it's pretty fair over here, so I'm going to add a little tiny vein up and then blend it in a little touch.
Do you know what type of mixture will help this type of flow everything flow together? Now I'm just going to flatten my edges randomly, not really trying to push the product in, just trying to blend it in and notice how I don't really have any color here, I'm just going to put a little bit of silver on the squeegee and blend it in, let's see, that is what we're looking for once everything is covered on top so it flows. down, that will be a very nice border. The nice thing about the edges is that you can always come back and play with them after they start to set a little bit because we'll have color on the floor, whatever plastic I can. use to add a little bit of color on top so that's it guys let this sit for a little level start to flow over the edges and then we'll come back and I'll show you some things we can do on the edges if we need to, I'm not sure if we'll do it, so we'll see how that plays out, okay, so what I'm doing now you can see we have some spots where it didn't really cover all the ground that I'm going to fill in.
The inside ones flatten them and then I'll go around and look. I already rolled the bottom of this while I had a few drops of stuff. I rolled the bottom that way when you grab the table it feels like it's covered underneath so I also applied epoxy under there and now I'm just going around the edges and I think it's a little bit bare here there's no silver color so I'm going to put a little bit on the brush and just add somehow just randomly and then we'll just blend it so we can get a little bit of color in here as well, that way they won't look completely white.
Create this on this target, we have the top running all the way. The edge down looks like it was cut from a slab and that's why your edges are so critical when you're prepping them, you don't want to feel a seam or anything, that's why you can still see the line he made. They don't fill all the way and then we have like a little hole for a nail here. You have to take your time and make sure you fill them all in because if they were filled right they would look like the ones we talked about, we wouldn't be able to fill them.
I see an edge or nothing, although now we don't really have to touch them, I mean, all these edges look great, they just float over amazing, okay guys, the table turned out absolutely amazing, just what they wanted, they wanted longer veins than they were not achieved. it mixed so much and that's the difference of rolling with a roller or

using

the squeegee correctly to make it look more natural, so now before we add our top coat, I wanted to, I'm taking 220 grit and I'm running my hand straight and If I feel any lumps, I will just tap them lightly.
I'm not really worried about these little specks of dust that got in because they don't stick out from anything that sticks out. I'll just hit it lightly. and knock it down, that's all and since this is a white counter, it's best to use the gray pads. Home Depot sells red pads that you really don't want to sand with a red pad on white, so what are we going to do? this is our new urethane, our new matte urethane, so ISAT soak the roller, do it like we always do with top coats, rule a little bit down the middle and then I'll do it crosswise and I'll notice I'm only going like two feet at a time and I really want to implement this right, make sure everything is coated, this was a really fun project to do, our kids can transform any surface, be sure to check out these other videos to see other awesome projects, subscribe, comment, let us know what's all we think see you soon
