May 31, 2021
Hi, I'm Gail Miller. Make sure you are the voice of the Westminster Kennel Club and these are all dog

breed

s. There are 205

breed

s, so let's go over it, so grab your bait and let's head out to the show floor. The 205 Breezes we are looking at are all KC-recognized breeds, meaning that the American Kennel Club has deemed these breeds eligible to be shown at KC-recognized dog shows, such as the Westminster Kennel Club, today we have seven groups of dogs from toy that are not sporting herding working terrier and sporting the groups are determined by the original function for which the dog was bred, we have a couple of them gathered into subgroups because there is something that relates these breeds in some way it may be the country of origin may be coat texture or temperament, there are hundreds of breezes around the world that are not even in the United States, but as they become popular in the US, that is when they are added to the KC recognition and it is when they can be exhibited in dog shows and they have to fit into one of these groups, harming their thirty-one breeds in the herding group the herding group is made up of breeds that moved livestock from one point to another it could be sheep it could be cattle whose main goal is to make sure they are helping humans keep their livestock safe and moving.

Originally the herding breeds were

part

of the working group and then in 1983, because there were so many dogs in the working group, the herding breeds were separated and formed the Australian herding group. The Cattle Dog, the Australian Shepherd, and the Miniature American Shepherd are grouped together here because they are all hard-working herding breeds. The Australian Cattle Dog, originally from Australia, is known as a wonderful breed for livestock. They really are known for being brave. The cows are kicking. Dogs have to be fast, they have to be decisive and they cannot be influenced by a kick. The Australian Shepherd is actually a misnomer.

More Interesting Facts About,

They are not from Australia. They were actually developed in the western

part

of the United States by ranchers. A wonderful wounded dog that has a strong drive just like the Australian Cattle Dog. The Miniature American Shepherd is actually just a smaller version of the Australian Shepherd. Farmers wanted something a little smaller, a little more portable and that they could use quickly and it has become very popular with city dwellers, the subgroup of the bearded collie and the border collie is that they are both from Scotland, their Scottish herding breeds and the bearded collie has a much thicker coat, they were in a cold temperature, while the border collie was as the name says on the border of Scotland and England and both are excellent herding dogs, but they have styles of very different damage, they have a double coat, they come in four different colors, fawn brown, black and blue, there is regular grooming with that long coat, but They are versatile and participate in all dog sports.

This subgroup is what we call the Belgian group, so obviously they are all from Belgium, but they have different coat textures and different colors, and the reason is that they are from different regions of Belgium. would have different texture and coat type needs depending on the terrain, climate, and conditions the dog would be working in. The Belgian Malinois has become very popular with police and with military use can be very focused, highly trainable and very quick to move and very in tune with its handler. The Belgian Shepherd Dog is completely black. He is also a very serious dog.

He is a very hardworking dog. It's oversized, though I mean this is the kind of thing you need to keep in mind. Considering that it is larger than the Malinois, the Belgian tervuren has a double coat and often has that reddish color, a mahogany color with a black coat, a black mask, upright ears. One thing that is noticeable with these three breeds is that they do not have a long stride in their gait, they have a powerful stride that can last all day and that is a unique part of these three breeds. I will talk about how dogs walk differently, gait is how they trot and there is a different trot depending on the function of the dog.
Sometimes they have to have a gate on stilts at the back, which means they are pushing a sled dog or a pulling dog. The bone structure is such that they can push easily. There are other breeds, like herding breeds, some that have a lot of extension and their gait and that is so that they can cover a lot of ground in a short period of time, then there are other dogs that have a medium stretch gait, the resistance gate for that they can go on all day and work all day here we have the beauceron we have the auto barre JP, the Bouvier des Flanders and the Briard and of course these are all very different looking dogs because they have different functions that beauceron is a little more protective, very obedient, very gentle, the bassist ap car has that shaggy look, it's very wiry fur they're supposed to be very natural in this show they're not supposed to be trimmed or have soft fur they're supposed to be rough the Bouvier des Flandres similar to the old English sheepdog was definitely a shepherd or guard dog, they can be used as guardians of a flock and home.
They are also large in size, so they can also be used to pull carts if necessary, and then there is the Briard, which is a wonderful French-bred herding breed known for its upright year. carriage that gives an interesting look to the face and head shape. Here we have the Cardigan West Corgi and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, as their name suggests they are both from Wales. The Queen is very well known for having corgis if you look at the the head shape, the size of the head, the body shape in the front, they are very different, they start there for cattle, mainly cattle that have that center of gravity low.
The cow kicks its hoof back. The dog is low and back enough that he cannot be hit by another. What's interesting is that both dogs have flat heads, especially the Pembroke has a flat top skull, so if a cow kicks it she won't hurt the dog's skull. Here we have the rough collie, which is the one with hair and the smooth one. collie and then the Shetland sheepdog, which is not a collie but looks like a miniature collie. Many times people think that this Sheltie is just a miniature collie, but it is a separate breed, so the collie of course became famous when Lassie had a television show and they were actually entered into the dog show.
Westminster in the 19th century. JP Morgan had his colleagues at our dog show, the soft Holly, as she is called, they have a softer coat, the reason is of course the temperature, you may be in the rubble of Scotland, moles you don't want . having to worry about that coat getting matted, so here you have a nice soft breed, if you are a shepherd, you don't want to have to worry about grooming your dog, you want to make sure your dogs are happy and healthy, then there is The Dog The Shetland Sheepdog is now such a trainable Shetland Sheepdog that plays so many different sports that they excel in agility and obedience.
You see them

every

where and that's because they want to please their owners, like most shepherd breeds. The next subgroup is the Scandinavian breeds. and let's analyze that they were all sheepdogs, but they heard in different ways and in different climates, which would explain why their size and coat are different. There is the Finnish Lapland that has a slightly thicker coat. We have the Norwegian woman who has shorter fur. always a black mask and then we have this Swedish Valium that was a little bit closer to the ground because he was working with cattle. Here we have the two Hungarian breeds that are known for being very tough sheepdogs, they don't take nonsense from anyone.
They look cute and fluffy, but trust me, they are serious, Puli's head may or may not have laces and the characteristic feature of the Pumas is those high gears that are raised and look super cute, then they have a very soft coat that is of a single coat. Be fooled because he is a very serious sheepdog. Burger Moscow is known to work very closely with its owner. Sometimes they can be a little suspicious of others. That is why they were originally bred to work with the shepherd and make sure their flock is safe, they have a very thick, laced coat, it is made of three different types of hair, the Kanan dog has a very strong and effortless walk and They are known to cover no ground and behave effortlessly.
The Old English Sheepdog is known as a muleteer, which means they didn't necessarily run around all day to catch or bring back a loose sheep, what they were really used to do was keep the flock together and move them along the path, perhaps taking them to the market to sell them, maybe they were moving them. to another meadow, but it's really just driving the sheep rather than herding them, which is a great skill to have. The Bouguer Mountain Dog is the smallest of the Swiss breeds, the German Shepherd Dog has long been a family, police and military favorite.
They are very brave They have exceptional training skills They are very versatile They are very attentive and what characterizes them most is their work ethic They do not slow down at work They are always ready to go into action They were a single door and were originally called live fence because they trotted around the entire flock to keep it safe. The interesting thing about the German Shepherd is that if they need to get into action, they can change gears very quickly and become powerful trotters. instantly to get to where they need to be, they continue to help man in many different capacities, including our best rumored winner of the show, who won in 2017, has now gone ahead and had litters of puppies.
She has two puppies right now that have been placed with veterans. With post-traumatic stress disorder, the Landok sheepdog is Iceland's only native dog and has appeared on its postage stamps. They come in two types of coat: long-haired and short-haired. The Polish Lowland Sheepdog looks very similar to the Bearded Collie and has a very different coat texture. There may have been some polishing behind the Bearded Collie several centuries ago, but they are different breeds and have different temperaments. The Polish Lowland Sheepdog is a little more suspicious, they are a little more cautious while the bearded collie is generally jumping on people and very outgoing, the Indian Shepherd is supposed to be shown in a very natural state, they are supposed to be rough and tough, they have a coat rough that is important for the work in the place where they would work.
They are a wonderful breed, large in size and can be in the city or in the countryside, the Spanish water dog has a very curly coat and as its name says, it worked in the water and on the land, it is a farm dog In general, many people think that this is one of the originals. The breeds behind many of today's aquatic breeds count: the Hound group is the largest group with 32 breeds and these are basically divided into bloodhounds and bloodhounds, so the first subgroup has the Afghan Hound, the Saluki, the oz walk and also the slooghi and These are all breeds that traveled with desert nomads, they were hunting things in the desert and they are super super fast.
These are hunting dogs, they can see a hare that a human can't see and they can go out and be independent hunters that work away from people and take down that game the first pair of Afghan hounds were brought to the United States by Zeppo Marx the Oz walks This breed is a very tall, smooth-coated sighthound. They are quite aloof, weighing many pounds, but they are wonderful companions. When you see a Saluki go around the ring at the Westminster Kennel Club dog show you will see an elegant date and they effortlessly have feathers on them. the legs and ears are very independent they are very beautiful they are very elegant and dignified, the Saluki first appeared in Westminster in 2017.
This is a very fast smooth-coated sighthound whose name is sometimes difficult to say, but it is from a elegant and noble green. The next subgroup is the American fox hound which had the English fox and the Harrier. There are slight differences in these three dogs: the American Foxhound is taller in the legs, has a slightly narrower head, the English Foxhound is a little stockier, a little thicker, has a wider skull and, of course, The Harrier also has more substance, but is smaller overall. Hunters use these dogs depending on where they hunt and what their needs are, so a dog with taller legs may be helpful if you're going through brush, while a shorter dog might be helpful when you're in open country.
Here we have the basset hound, the bloodhound and the otter hound, and the only thing these three have in common are very long hound ears, those ears are not only cute and wonderful to hold, there is a purpose, the purpose is to bring smell, so when the dog's head is on the ground sniffing and trying to follow a scent, the ears actually help pick up the scent and help the dog follow the otter's hand, of course, it's interesting because it's a lot in the water and has webbed feet so that form follows function, these dogs have form. and we have these characteristics based on what their jobs were here, we have the 15 and 13 inch beagles forLet

every

one know that beagles are so friendly and outgoing because they are a pack animal and have to be able to get along with others. dogs and people and working together for humans, that's part of the reason why beagles have always been a favorite in the United States.
Here we have the American English Bloodhound, the Black and Tan Bloodhound, the Bluetick Coonhound, the Redbone Coonhound, and the Treeing Walker Coonhound, and then. of course there is the plot hound which is named after a person so the blue coonhound is known by the ticking in the coat which means the little dots the little spots and that bluish tone his beautiful coat and then the red bone is a beautiful red. color of different shades Now, if you saw the dogs side by side, you would notice more than just a coat difference, they also have different head shapes, they have different substances, different wounds around a bone and that's because it depends on the hunting conditions in which they would be used.
Now dachshunds have a lot of variety because there are two sizes, the miniature and the standard, and then there are three varieties of coat the long hair the smooth coat and the wire hair so there is something for everyone and they have different temperaments the wire hair it's more Terrier like these coats are the original hound and so they are more of an independent thinking hound and then the long hairs are a little sweeter I would say a little more I want to be on your lap buddy and that's probably because they were introduced when the long coat was needed, you can ask why you need three different coats, the reason is again temperature.
If you have a colder temperature, you want a dog that has fur so he can continue hunting and these dogs, as they said before, are very independent thinkers, they were no different from the herding breeds that they worked with. man, these work with humans, but they worked away from them, they didn't receive direct orders, they went out and looked for the hair of badgers and different rabbits and different small game animals and then they followed those vermin down to the ground in the tunnels they have. You had to be very bold to go down a dark tunnel after a badger and then they would bark until the hunter found them and could take the quarry underground, so they are supposed to be bold, they are supposed to bark and they are supposed to you must be independent thinkers here we have grandpa let's say griffall vonda all of you and the petit bus a griffons LD they are all very similar dogs with tassels and rough appearance with long ears obviously the width is bigger and the petite is more small, but there are other differences the large one has much more girth they have a somewhat different temperament again these are pack animals so they are very outgoing, happy and affectionate dogs they were bred to work with other dogs but it depended on the work if you need a big one use the big one if you need a small one you use the small one now the wild hound and the thin abhi hound like to compete and they say that their dogs are the ones at the entrance to the tombs in Egypt.
I'm not sure what it is, we don't know, they're both from an old, ancient race. The Pharaoh Hound is known to blush and get a little red on his cheeks and nose when he is excited or anxious. The Chernenko of Etna, however, is much smaller than the other two but very similar in outline in that classic look that you see that looked like it could have been Egypt at some point here we have the Irish Wolfhound, the Scottish Deerhound and the Borzoi which used to be called Russian they will have these the large breeds have greyhounds behind them at some point they are very fast they can take down big game they are known to take down deer Wolf's elk anything larger that may be near the castle or that may be a predator of some kind were there to watch and hunt with the nobles.
They have been part of the castle, as they said they were not necessarily in the barn. These were domestic dogs. Here we have the greyhound and the whipping. They look very similar to each other, but they are very different breeds, the Whipet's head has a very different shape than the Greyhound's, but both are wonderful pets, they are super fast, so if you are going to have one at home you should make sure you have a garden or always have it on. Leave because otherwise if they walk away from you, they can move on. The interesting thing is that most greyhounds say their dogs are couch potatoes in the house, they really like to laze around, but what's outside?
If they see something, they will go after it. The Basenji is an African breed with a ring tail and is known as the dog that does not bark, although it makes sounds, but it is not known as the typical barker. The new Asian elk hound has a very thick coat and the name is a little misleading because they didn't. To hunt elk, they hunted elk. The Portuguese Podengo Pequenos was a great family dog. They are so fun, feisty and ready for action. They are also known as the national dog of Portugal. The Rhodesian Ridgeback has become more popular in the United States. the last 10 years have a beautiful outline, they are known for that ridge of fur on their back that goes in the wrong direction.
They are known for being stoic and very brave, but you have to be if you are a lion hunter in Africa. They were known to keep the lions at bay for the unsporting. At the beginning there was the sporting group and the non-sporting group, so if you were not a setter or a spaniel, they put you in this group the Boston Terrier, the Bulldog and the French Bulldog, these are all breeds related to the bulldog and all they have that kind of really cute squashed face, a shorter muzzle is what it really is and for Bulldogs, they were bred in England like the Bader bull, the dogs would cling to the bull and their strong jaws would clench and release when the owner It said let go.
Now they are just the cute and adorable mascot of many sports teams. The French Bulldog, of course, is very popular. Part of that is due to their bat shaped ears, they also have a very round face they are a sturdy little dog they love to go places they love people they snort and sneeze and something very cute about them that people love here we have the shar -Chinese pei and the Chow Chow both from China these breeds have very different coats, the shar-pei has almost a sandpaper feel and the chow chow generally has a very thick coat so when you brush that dog you want to make sure to reach the skin. have the Bichon Frize and the Coton de Tulear, the Bichon Frize won Best in Show at Westminster most recently in 2018, that was Fleming in the Coton is the Royal Dog of Madagascar here we have the Dalmatian and the show Loic squealing now the reason The reason I put these two together is because they are both very popular in their home countries and because they have both become Disney movie superstars.
The Dalmatian, of course, is the original trainer dog that is in 101 Dalmatians and the Xolo appeared in the recent Pixar film Coco, here. we have the Finnish Spitz on the keys and they are both spit and breathing which means they have two erect ears, they have a box shaped face and the keys of course have much thicker fur, it is similar to a Chacho in which is a double and thick coat. Curiously they have a black mask and it looks like they are wearing glasses and they are called The Laughing Dutchman because when they open their mouths it looks like they are smiling.
This was a barge dog that was used as an all-around guard dog. rat or whatever you needed him for this was an all purpose dog if you want to bring a finnish spitz into your home make sure you have a fenced yard or keep that dog on a leash they are known to want to fight here we have the the miniature poodle and the standard poodle in the non-sporting group and of course the standard poodle is known to be one of the most trainable and human-like dogs in the canine world. Sometimes people wonder why their coat is trimmed the way it is and it's important.
Remember that the standard poodle was originally a water-retrieving dog, so the pompoms on the hip joints and around the vital organs were left there to help keep the dog warm in cold water, while the rest was removed. of the coat so that the dog would flow easily through the water the miniature poodle is the medium sized poodle, there is the standard miniature poodle and then the toy poodle in the toy group here we have the Tibetan Spaniel and the Tibetan Terrier obviously two breeds from Tibet with very different jobs but they are both known for being hardy and very serious breeds, the Tibetan Spaniel is a wonderful urban dog, they are easy to breed and easy to transport, which is why the Tibetan Terrier and Show Ring Spaniel have long coats and thick, but if you want one as a pet you don't have to keep it that long, you can trim it and still enjoy the excellent characteristics of that breed.
The American Eskimo was known as a circus animal. It is very trainable. It's cute. You can learn things quickly and they are very popular. dog sports the Lhasa Apso is a wonderful lap dog today as it was centuries ago this breed was a guard dog in palaces but also a faithful companion the Lhasa Apso was the first Tibetan breed recognized by the American Kennel Club the Lau Ching can come in all kinds of colors they have that tail feature on their back but it's the handle of a teacup they are a fun and loving little breed they are Norwegian Linda Hood has some unique features they have six toes on their feet they have a very flexible neck and all of this is so they can hunt puffins, that's what they were originally bred for.
The key pattern is a copy of the small compact dog, all in black, always alert and ready to go. The Shiba Inu is a very popular breed in Japan and they are gaining popularity in the United States. They are calm and demeanor very clean. They are often called light cats.
