We returned to Anusawari, which is the Victory Monument. We're almost home, but we decided to stop for a quick bite to eat at this street food stall right behind me. They specialize in Isan food, which is food from the northeast region of Thailand, and they also have jim jum, which is a Thai Isan hot pot. I think there's chicken, there might be some pork in here, liver, some intestines and there's an egg right in the center. What you're supposed to do is just break up the yolk and stir, at least Ying told me to stir it all up.
She opens this soup. There should be something, there's some galangal here. There are some kaffir lime leaves, what else is down here? Lemongrass and first I will add all the meat. Or just slide it in, bang! Add all these vegetables. There's basil down here, sweet basil. There is water bell, so water bell. What you normally have to do is break it up and then throw it all into the clay pot. Gotta add that cabbage in there too. Okay, I'm going to stir this up. While the jim jum was cooking, I also ordered a side of laab which is minced pork salad.
There are also some intestines here and this is a very good looking dish. I better get an intestine in that mouthful. Oh yeah, what I like about this version is that it has a lot of (speaks a foreign language), which is toasted rice, powdered sticky rice. So it gives it that crunchy texture but also a smoky flavor. That dressing. Yeah, I think we're good with the soup. I'm going to help myself to some vegetables. Yes, that should be fine for now. I'm going to take that piece of pork and this is a different sauce. Oh, that's hot right out of the pot.
I'm going to eat some vegetables too. Yes, you can really taste that lemongrass in there. Ying and I are going to sit here and finish the rest of this meal, so I'll end the video now. It was a really great day and really an honor and really amazing to hang out with Andrew Zimmern and walk and eat at one of my favorite restaurants in Bangkok.
