Dundee 0-0 Rangers: Are title hopes over after dismal Dens showing?

Apr 18, 2024
good night everyone well well Rangers uh Drew nil nil with dund D in Den Park tonight this is his full time reaction video. Joshua joins me to discuss what was a really woeful performance from Rangers tonight, he leaves them three points behind. Celtic in the

title

race with five games to go, they are also behind in the goal difference department and we Rangers were looking for a reaction after Sunday's ding wall debacle and unfortunately it never came and, yes, it didn't do. I don't think there will be many discussions about Joshua, another Rangers surprise tonight and where do you start?
dundee 0 0 rangers are title hopes over after dismal dens showing
I don't think he was good in the first half. Yes, a couple of testing efforts, that side's goalkeeper, Dundy, could have opened the scoring after 38 seconds. Second. Half the same, um, puffed and bloated, but they really lack any real quality in the final third, they look disjointed, uh, and they look like a team that has run their race, they look broken and finished and, to me, the league is finished, thoughts um. Yeah, I mean, based on that tonight, Derek, if that's the Rangers' reaction to losing points in the

title

race, then I'd totally agree with you.

I don't see how a performance like that, I don't see how, um. If that's a reaction, the Rangers are going to come back and change something in the next five games, obviously we heard noises in the pregame press conference about you know the next six games they have to win and Todd says Mo talked to Rangers TV. before the match about needing a reaction and for some reason it just didn't come, meaning it wasn't a game I haven't heard what Clont has to say about the game yet in any of his interviews. I'll be able to watch his full press conference on YouTube and the website soon, but that wasn't a game Derek had with the Rangers.

I can't take a single real chance that they had in that second half. Tess was forced to save. the goalkeeper, but that was a shot from 16 to 18 yards, maybe outside the area, if I remember correctly, it wasn't a clear cut opportunity, it wasn't until I think in the last 10 minutes that they were able to build um. any kind of M boost around the Dundee box, so it's a bad day, a really bad day for Rangers after a terrible day on Sunday, and yeah, uh, I don't really think there's much to make of it and I'll be interested. to see what clemont has to say because he needed a reaction from his team today Derek and even if Ranger didn't play well they needed to win um that was a very very bad way to fall further behind in the title race and as you say the Rangers are not only three points behind, they are behind on goal difference and suddenly the prospect of Sunday looks a little alarming.
dundee 0 0 rangers are title hopes over after dismal dens showing
Yeah, listen, the season could end on Sunday. I tweeted some full time. Horrible display from Rangers tonight. Hearts will love their chances at Hen. I would like to see Hearts get a result over this Rangers team and I wouldn't bet on H Rangers winning one of the remaining five league games, let alone all five, which is what they will have to do. They look absolutely devastated. Conor Davidson listened to Clemont's interview on Sky. There have been some comments about it. I haven't heard them yet, but he says what Clemont's interview was about there. It was a reaction and apparently we ruled the game.
Really, I made some changes tonight, Joshua the coach, I think he had to do it after what we witnessed at the weekend, Kamal Ru led the line, brought in Tom Lawrence alongside John Lundstrom with Duan Sterling at left back , but never really. I've really seen a reaction throughout the game. What interests me is listening to that interview he just gave. It is difficult to distinguish any positive aspects, which is extremely alarming. This is a team that is supposed to be going for a league title. That's done very well here, as Jack Bin pointed out in his pre-match press conference that, um, it's just reminding the players that they were way behind by eight points, at one point they got it back, they were on top of the league. for a while and now they look so far from challenging it's unreal, yeah I was chatting to someone yesterday after the press conference and I said I think the reason is natural when you lose a game like the Rangers did.
On Sunday, in a title race, Eric, the frustration is always going to be pretty intense, but I think the reason people are even more frustrated is because they started to build that trust with a lot of members of this team over several months. months and people will feel that in the last two games they have been completely let down again because it feels like Rangers have just hit their worst run of form of the season, apart from the start of the season this one is right up there, isn't it? Is it like that in the first eight games where they lost three games in the league? um, they had a terrible four-man run between the Europa League qualifiers, obviously losing at home and to Madre. well, since that Hearts game at home and then going to Karik, it feels like Rangers have been on a downward curve, it feels like Clemont's options have started to catch up with him, some sympathy for him to some extent because He, look how much He has had to rotate, has not been able to play with his strongest side.
I don't think he's really had a stronger side and he's been working with limited options all season. He's been able to raise expectations, but again when Go and then put on a performance like that tonight and like they did on Sunday, where it's not so much that the Rangers are unlucky but that there are so many elements missing from that performance. I thought the play they had in possession tonight was so erratic. There was that spell where Goldson put the ball out of play about three times, um, and it felt very similar to the r County game.
I couldn't believe when the ConEd Rangers had that opportunity after 30 seconds, you know, over the weekend in Dingwell. ConEd gave a chance to George Harmon at the back post after a minute and in the second half they can see the chance after a minute and are finally punished. That happens again today, so there are many elements missing in all those performances. While it's important to remember the general context of yes, as Jack Butland said they've done fantastically well to get to this position, being disappointed, I think in this way will be the most frustrating, I'm sure. for Clont and the team members because they have worked hard for several months to get to this position and in the last two games you expected them to do better, it's not a trip to the rugby park that's tripped them up, it's a match at home against Motherwell and a trip away to Ding Wall and tonight and a trip away to Den Park, but now they are three points behind having reached the top of the league as you say, yes, this is a team that that me says they like to chase um but when the pressure is on when they are the team at the top of the pile then H Lis McKenzie with a point says the team mentality is depressing so the weak minded always bottle it up when it comes of decisive games to be won, enough is enough, I need a proper rebuild, I can't disagree with much of that Lewis and yes listen, like you Joshua, I have a bit of sympathy for the manager, he needs a summer to recruit him and Neils. police and bring the players he wants on the team.
I think there needs to be a major overhaul of that team that was in the same position we were in last season when we were talking about a rebuild, but certain players need to be moved. It appears they are nearing the end of their careers with the Rangers. I'm not even talking about the guys who are out of contract, some of the other players who have been ever-present on the team in recent seasons. speaking of Connor Goldson even James tavanir um John LOM who knows without a contract uh I wouldn't offer him a new deal based on what he's been doing lately um and there are others on that team um that should take the blame like well there are so many negative aspects, it is difficult to know what to focus on, this is an interesting point.
John Gaml's L, he says that a striker has killed us this season, one is that, that 10,000% if that were true, but he is placing I think a lot of emphasis was placed on his point, but he realized that Josa should have bought him . Not that he isn't saying he would have solved the problem at Rangers, he would be at the top of the table. yes they bought a striker but for me not being able to buy a competent number nine has cost Rangers, there are defensive issues of course but yes the forward area again tonight was weak and non-existent, yes I was very surprised.
Seeing um ceiling start just because Derek hasn't done well, he hasn't started since I think he limped off in December, maybe against Johnson, I could be wrong, but I was very surprised to see it. Yes, listen, there are so many things. to choose from and I think the continuation. The season's narrative was always going to take shape at the end, right? um and at the moment it certainly looks like you know Rangers are still in the Scottish Cup um and you know, this technology, the title race is technically not over, but I don't think you or I are discussing this right now, we have quite a few. people looking at us.
I don't think many would confidently say that Rangers have any chance of winning the title again simply because they seem to have run out of legs a bit, um, the reasons we just discussed, where there are no redeeming features of that performance again, expected goals at the whistle was 1.04, so um. Yeah, they didn't create much and on top of that, they're now obviously three points behind, they're not in a position of strength by any margin, so there's a lot to highlight about how they got here. Clemont will do it. Like any Rangers coach, the liver dies from the changes he makes.
I think there's a strong argument that this Rangers team for a long rebuild was a word we got tired of and I think everyone got tired of last summer, one of the yes, one of the problems with the rebuild was that I think it was pretty manager-centric. Remember back in April we went off the beaten path here, but I remember Michael Beal's press conference where he said you'll be able to track every player? For me, now some of those players have been very good. Acquisitions like Dujon Sterling, who Beal deserves a lot of credit for bringing to the club, but there have been big problems with Rangers' recruitment with the formation of his team, which we have talked and talked about a lot.
This channel that we have talked about for several months, if not years, has taken several different managers, several different styles, but it is still the same core of the team, so Clont will definitely have to make some big decisions in the summer which is why that Rangers have brought in someone in Neils Cofin who is a head of recruitment rather than just a sporting director simply because, as John Bennett said at the most recent AGM, a position that is an area that has not only had wins of SP when you need to have consistent wins, but the team's formation over several years has been really poor and I think that is a point that Clont has taken full advantage of during the first five months of his tenure and this team and myself.
I think it's pretty undeniable over the last month things haven't been going so well it feels like they're tired it feels like things have caught up with them and it feels like their options have been limited I think they've made some wrong decisions like the weekend, um, not making changes at halftime, but when you say he has big decisions to make in the summer, you have to say of course he does, because the Rangers have had a lot of managers in recent years, but I've had a pretty similar group of players. Logic would tell you that everything needs to evolve at some point.
And I'm sure that Clemont, who everyone knows wants to be very successful at Rangers, will know that he has to make bold decisions and I'm sure that he won't be afraid of that over the summer and I'm sure that, as he mentioned yesterday on his press conference, all of these games will be learning curves for him in the decisions he makes in the future, because while he didn't say that his team was on trial as such speaking at yesterday's press conference. I don't know if you noticed, but he did hint that, in effect, people are, of course, playing for futures about the length of the next what six seven eight six or seven games depending on whether the Rangers make the Cup final from Scotland and yeah, it wasn't a good audition for some tonight, no, not at all, it wasn't, it's just amazing that the fall, I mean, they've just fallen off a cliff, haven't they?
I mean, we've seen it in this team of st

rangers

over the years. There has been a significant drop at some point in the season. We just felt, I think we all believed with him a new coach came in, he got the team fired, put them on top of the league again, said this could be different, but unfortunately they've written once again um let's get some comments on Fabio Silva, Andrew Webster says what on Earth. It's Fabios, why on Earth is Fabio Silva still playing? I'm telling you, these wolves won't come close to the money they paid Porto Porto to get back a few years ago.
It was horrible, Joshua. Don't know. he knows what he's supposed to be doing and uh, he's not a Killer Instinct up there and uh, we've got, I mean, the Benfica side, they've offered very little, again, uh, tonight. and uh, I said when I was with Chris when we made a reaction video to the team news. I said it was a great night for Fabio Silva. It was a disappointing weekend. I can't see what he's bringing to the team. That? What do you think of his performance tonight? I think he looks like a player who is playing out of position. um for me, looking at that team tonight, the reason I was surprised, I was sure one of Mosen or Matondo would come back, I didn't think, Matondo.
It was poor when it came in, but because in that game tonight, which was pretty chaotic, there was a lot, there wasn't a lot of control, I don't think the Rangers had in that game, I think you want people to win that you know. his Jewels one by one that can outrun people or maybe are when isolated in space can do something and for me, looking at that lineup, Dujon Sterling was really the only one within that sorry. Sterling and Sea were the two in that A compliment, who fit that profile? I think if you watch a game like tonight, it really strengthens the argument that the Rangers missed Muhammad Dandi for me.
I know that he is a bit divided since he arrived at the club, but they have included him directly. And I think he's a good player. I really miss Red Van Yas, who we talked about this morning or yesterday. I think he's been the Rangers' best player before getting injured this calendar year and you see how important he's been now that he's out. I think the difficulty for someone like James Taver Taver, who was trying to move around the field a little bit tonight, it's difficult to direct that game from the right back. Rangers need someone in that central midfield and it has been a presiding issue for a long time.
I need someone to run the games as I think as simple as it is when they have so much possession of the ball, it's a cliché and you hear in the comments that they need someone to grab the game by the throat. I do not think it is like that. I don't think it's as simple as that, what I do think is that they are short on points and they have been short on points for a number of years and maybe not so much during this last period with Clemont in the last few months, when they have been winning games, but when they have the ball in front of a block, um, when they need someone to really run the game in possession in the middle, they don't have that because I don't think that's what John L's game is about and I know he's in a bad place. , he might as well have had a better period with Clemont until about February, but his game isn't and I don't think there's ever going to be someone who, when you're trying to take down a team, is your number six, that's a special specialist position. .
That's not that he was brought in to play Derek, he was brought in to play that kind of role on the right side under Gerard, to be someone who had a motor in Europe, which he has done, but again, I think there's been a real gap. in base midfield for the Rangers. several seasons and that comes down to team planning and it may be a little reactive to seem like we're talking about it now, but when a part of the title has fallen apart so dramatically in the last two games, I think it's totally legitimate, um.
As has been the case against Ross County and Dundee, you've had those early starts, you've also had that in the old firm game, where for some reason Rangers seem so vulnerable to conceding early and were never able to get into the rhythm. I took a detour from then on, but I thought the team selection was strange because there weren't many people who earned their Jewels one on one or were better isolated in wide areas or just being able to run past players like there was. SEMA in the first half, was a bright spark. Taver tried to get in as much as possible, but again, when you're a right-back, how much can you really? run a possession game, they need to solve that problem in the summer, they need to solve that midfield, it's been a problem for a lot longer than Clemont has been here, yes, Dujon Sterling should have been in midfield again tonight and I mean , Ben Davis was on the bench um, they should have had someone to leave behind, it's lost there for me.
Rangers need legs in the middle of the park and again the midfield is virtually non-existent tonight. Daman with the point, don't talk about the Rangers losing players, this team should. be more than capable of beating Ross County and Dund D absolutely Damian, which leads me to think that there's something not quite right about that dressing room, Joshua, um, I don't know what it is, but this is a team that doesn't They are fighting for each other. That's no longer running through brick walls for the coach. There seems to be a bit of unrest among the players and, yes, listen, it's just about getting to daylight saving time, what's going to happen between now and the end of the season?
Who knows if Rangers can somehow manage to beat Hearts at the weekend, then we will have a Scottish Cup final to look forward to, hopefully we will regain some form in the next five league games of the season, but I have My doubts. With this group of players, where do the Rangers go from here? Yes, good. H, I don't know, try to get to the Scottish final, obviously, contextually. Derek like you said when Clont came in, look, he um, let's say he hypothetically makes it to the finals. In the Scottish Cup final he wins the Scottish Cup, which I realize, considering what happened tonight, seems highly unlikely, but let's say when he comes in, he'll win a cup, he'll get to the final. of another cup that is going to run.
The title race is pretty close, you'd probably say it was in October. I'm surprised he's accomplished that this season, so it's important to remember that even if he doesn't, people won't feel like suggesting that tonight. I think he has surpassed his achievements. with this group of players and

showing

at times like tonight the injuries have been difficult Oscar Cortez you know Stevie and I talked about that the other day right? He has been a great Miss Red Van Yumas also Niik Raskin is a strange guy. because Muhammad Diamandi, when he was hired in January, the noises were very surprising that the Rangers were moving for a central midfielder because they seemed quite enthusiastic about that position, but Rasin didn't come on at any point tonight, yeah, something That's wrong. there, um, again we don't get along, yeah, but I think that speaks to the broader issue of why a recruiting director is needed, why Clont is playing catch-up because Rasin signed last January and because of this time last year he was the focal point of the Rangers midfield because there has been a lot of jumping from coach to coach and recruiting is based on different styles of coaching play, you get this type of team that the Rangers have at the moment with Tom Lawrence playing in a position he has not played in at all times. his whole career K Kieran D was the same um the weekend with Sterling you know you're saying he's wasted at left back but he could be in three different positions tonight that's the reality because Rangers are so short on a lot of different positions um I think Clont has done a good job, a really good job through February and March of plugging those gaps and getting the most out of this group.
This is the first time I think you've looked at it and I've thought it's a return to the kind of situation that you inherited and you can't deny it because tonight was supposed to be about a reaction and obviously that didn't happen on Sunday. That will tell us a lot, but then we said. That's tonight, right? So I think you really need to wait and see what happens on Sunday before making any really big judgments. Yes, unfortunately they have returned to being type. Yes I agree. I think he has performed superiorly with this group of players. um OV.
It exceeded all of our expectations, by the way, that was one of the questions I was asked. Chris was on the show this morning. Would two cups constitute a successful season? I think since we're talking about where and where they are now, I think it's definitely going to bite you. delivery for that um, I mean, the league title is still in effect, there's a comment there, uh, it says it's not time to play against the juniors yet, I understand that, but there will have to be a noticeable change in the last two games. Totally an absolute shock, uh, the Rangers are nowhere near the required levels, uh, few points coming and Andrew says he feels for Josh, if you have to look at that again, mate, it'll be tough, maybe yes, maybe you'll you lose it and I don't know, maybe the speed.
Observant, but the thing is, I don't think there's much to learn from that game. It's not like you know we're a game like the weekend. I think there is a lot of interest. We talked about the counterattack and the situations that the Rangers conceded. and maybe there are interesting themes tonight, it just felt like a game of nothing, um, where there was no control and yeah, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know how much we'll learn from watching it again. Be honest Andrew so thank you, yes thank you to the Celtic fan he donated to the channel.
I'm not going to read his comment, but thank you, and for tuning in, the donation is greatly appreciated, a little strange, but there you have it, H Denzel. The point is that I can't blame the coach that he had every right to expect more from the players that we need to invest and clean up, but where is the money? Yes, that's one thing. Denzel, of course, it was obviously seen that you mentioned Dandy Joshua as part of the summer budget was spent on him, Celtic will take first place and then they will get the Champions League riches that come with that too, so, yeah, listen, the Rangers, as we mentioned there, there's going to be a review in the summer, but there's going to be a bit of a tweak, the Rangers are going to have to take out certain players, certain players, as I mentioned before, not just the guys without contract, but also the guys who have been there for several years, it could be an even bigger overhaul. from what we witnessed last summer Joshua um we're getting a little ahead of ourselves here but um I'm just looking at the players on the team I would keep for next season H butland Sterling um and then of the 11 starters i' sign SEMA and that it's all, uh Sutter, I would stay uh and then you're, you're really struggling, the rest, that the jury is very much out, some have looked like, uh, they've checked it out, that's for sure, but um, yeah.
Listen to a hugely disappointing night for the Rangers. There are so many comments on what we will be on tomorrow morning. I think Johnny will also come with us so we can analyze the game in more detail. But it is a hugely frustrating night. If you're a Rangers supporter tonight, they went to Den's Park and were flattered to cheat. They never looked like winning at any stage and returned three points behind Celtic. There are five league games left. H Celtic are they five or six goals ahead are they at the moment Joshua there are quite a few goals ahead some anyway yeah so I mean they can even afford to lose uh two Rangers at Parkhead uh and this Rangers team is not going to parkhead and pick up a positive result, I'll tell you that right now, so, yes, Philip Clont has his work cut out for him, as I mentioned earlier, we'll hear from him.
Chris is at the press conference as we speak, so the press conference will begin. YouTube channel coming soon so it will be interesting to hear what he has to say but I'll be with Joshua and Johnny tomorrow so we hope you can join us because it's not the most positive show tonight and spoiler. Alert tomorrow won't be either, but that's the joy I guess of following the Rangers, it's never easy, and yes, tomorrow we'll look into the details in more detail, but H, thank you all for tuning in. Many thanks to Joshua. Also uh good night Forks we'll talk to you tomorrow bye for now
