is biting whatever style is trendy to stay on top it seems like somewhere along the way he became more interested in staying relevant than being authentic and by trying to please everyone he diluted himself as a person and He lost his own identity people change I mean I change every day I'm not criticizing I just can't get discouraged with Drake's recent image because I feel like he's trying to be something he's not but maybe along the way he He became so immersed in this caricature of himself that he began to believe that perhaps Aubry Graham's best acting days were not as wheelchair-bound Jimmy on Degrassi but rather playing a hip-hop superstar named Drake, a man who is capable of jumping to the top of the charts with any release, who else?

I'm really trying to get into the cold of Hollywood. I'm treating Birmingham like my Hollywood shows. It was Drake's father who really stimulated his interest in music, Dennis. would take drake, aged five to six, to concerts at various bars in toronto and would have him go on stage and sing on occasion after their divorce, dennis moved to memphis, so drake spent part of his childhood in tennessee, where he was influenced by southern rap culture in memphis dennis started selling drugs and eventually got caught and put in jail while in prison he set aside time for drake to talk to a fellow inmate who also rapped my dad used to share his phone time with this guy and this guy I used to rap so he used to read me his raps on the phone and I was like you know I rap too so we used to be like it got to the point where I was like yeah daddy okay , brilliant.

Where do you know where he is? I have new raps to make raps to spit on or whatever, so we used to use the rest of my dad's phone time and just rap, rap, rap until he would cut off. Unfortunately for Drake, Dennis was not as involved in his upbringing as he would have liked and this would become a major theme in his music where he lamented the absence of his father; Actually, it was one of Drake's classmates at Forest Hill who gave him his start in the entertainment industry. It was a disturbing moment for me. You know, we all came up in the names. our dressing rooms were changed, you know they were doing a complete change, they were starting over with new younger kids. I remember telling my mom that she was going to tell my agent that I was probably going to take a break and see where this music thing took me. Drake released his debut mixtape Room for Improvement in 2006 and his second mixtape comeback season the following year. Jazz Prince, whose father, legendary label founder James J. Prince, was looking to make a name for himself in the music business, so his father told him to look for the next most popular thing at the time myspace had a page music exploration.

Mjs came across Drake's music and immediately caught his attention. She found me in my space and I said, "I like your music." I'm going to make you famous, he was like man, I know Lil Wayne and one day I'll play him in music and I was like, yeah, right, you know, I never really believed it at first, I told my dad. I have it in my car. I'm going to play with Drake, so he's riding. I'm playing. You know I'm playing. You know, I'm looking at it and I see it there. As you know, shaking my head, I'm like, okay, he said, who is this? I was like, oh, that's that Drake that you told me you didn't like and he said he's cool, like where are you?, like he's in Toronto. I was. as a man I can get him here asap I need everyone to meet each other it's like I was about to call him right now I was like hey I was like what's up I was like this doesn't sound like my friend and He's like what's wrong?

He's a whistle and he was, you know, he ended up being, he ended up being Wayne, he was like he was starting this thing called young money and I would really love for you to be a part of it, so I want to fly. You went to Houston and we met you and he did exactly that the next day and that formed our relationship and I was like this quiet kid on the corner of the bus, yeah, while everything was happening around me and Carter 3 was just that, I think. They were like two or three weeks away from leaving and what a time that night we drove on a bus to um Atlanta and at night when the studio is where we recorded the first trick forever and another song that you can't think of. and about two weeks later, the songs leaked, so that's how drake released his first commercial ep so far in february 2009 and it peaked at number six on the billboard charts, his debut single, the best i've ever had, reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and helped make him a household name from here.

Drake became a global superstar and every commercial album he released reached number one on the charts. The arrival of Drake and music marked a new path that weaved together singing as rapping and rapping as singing in early 2010. Hop had just emerged from an intense auto-tune phase and the proven formula was that a rapper would tell the story and he would then bring in a singer to provide excitement or sensuality. Drake showed the world that those parts could be delivered by the same person, Kanye. West deserves a lot of credit for helping pioneer the introspective rap genre with 808 and heartbreak, but Drake and 40 turned that style into a sound that was all their own.

Drake's early lyrics are extremely personal and convey universal emotions such as love and regret. Girl music is the waggiest thing you can do, so I was never really, you know, of all the things people will say about me. I was never affected by everything like, ah, you know, this is soft or emotional or whatever because I was like, I mean, I guess I only make music for dusty guys, but that's not really what inspires me. You know, Drake won a Grammy for best rap album in 2011 with Take Care and two years later, Drake released. Nothing Was The Same, which is my personal favorite album of his, and like his title track after that, Nothing Was The Same in 2014.

Drake had comfortably positioned himself at the top of rap commercially and wanted to establish himself as a confident individual. I'm so sick. from people saying I'm lonely and emotional and associating me with this, like longing for a woman or a bad boy, yeah I hate that man, he bothers me so much on his recent albums that it seems like his only concern is keeping influences, for which jumped trend after trend without creating its own path in 2015, released a collaborative project with a series of epic releases from future after future and the following year, Drake released a bloated and predictable album that lacked any real creative energy, it felt like a full room. of corporate executives were tasked with finding regional songs that Drake could repackage and turn into a commercial hit and these songs have led some to accuse Drake of being a culture vulture, although he is quick to dismiss those claims.

The definition of cultural appropriation is not. supporting that culture by making songs with people who are deeply rooted in that culture giving opportunity to people who are in that culture that you don't appropriate, appropriating is taking it for your personal benefit and denying that you were ever inspired by this, that's the real deal disservice that someone could do it in the UK, in dancehall and in afrobeats. Drake has had a long history of rap issues, but the two most notable ones are pivotal to the man we see today in 2020 and I'm not going to go into too much detail about them because I think that could make for its own compelling video, but the The first major one was with Meek Mill, who criticized Drake on Twitter for supposedly having someone else write some of his rhymes.

Drake responded with a one-two punch of loaded tracks from top to bottom. which made him unanimously the winner of that fight. I think that win fueled some of Drake's new tough guy persona. He thought, "Oh, I beat the street rapper. I'm at the top of the charts, no one can touch me and that's until he got into a fight with Pusha T, who finally gave him the

l of his career when he released an album called the adidon story where he exposed drake for having a secret baby adonis with a former porn star basically pusha claims drake is Continuing the cycle of not being present as a father, things got worse when drake's own father spoke out radio with Nick Cannon and dismissed the idea that he was an absent father.

I've always been with Drake, although not every day. wow, I said Drake, why are you saying all these different things about me? Man, like, this isn't cool, and it does, it's sales records. Many fans expect Drake to address these topics on his fifth studio album, Scorpion, but he mainly avoided them to focus on typical Drake themes, like the burden of dating several beautiful women at once and the audacity of rappers to speak out on his behalf. Scorpion is a fantastic album with 25 songs that run 90 minutes and isn't a lot of fun to listen to. but numbers don't lie and scorpion debuted at number one on the charts and broke the global one-day record for spotify and apple music album streams and drake's next album, certified loverboy, will be released soon, it's almost certain that It will be another commercial success, butall I can do is hope for a more focused, honest and compelling album.

I'm outside in an amg. There's certainly something to be said about Aubry Graham being able to break out of his childhood Nickelodeon image as wheelchair-bound Jimmy and become Drake, a global superstar and he and 40 deserve a lot of credit, they've made countless hits over the years. and I like a lot of his songs, I just can't be put off by his current image, it just seems fake, he's told us in a lot of songs and albums that he's insecure and maybe some of that comes from him hiding the fact that he's actually a good guy who was raised very well, he pretends he's not, this is the exact opposite of the advice lil wayne gave him at the beginning, he's always just like man, please be yourself, please don't ever try to be me or anyone else, don't ever go get tattoos, you don't have to, you don't have to dress up. anyone different, you know, because I like him from the day Wayne met me until now, I didn't, I haven't changed anything about me, he met me and he really liked the kid he met and he told me don't stop smiling either. don't try to be mean or aggressive he's just be yourself drake doesn't do interviews anymore and the recent one he did actually inspired this video it was a two hour and twenty minute rap radar interview that he produced himself it's a Most of the written interviews I've seen so far scream desperation and maybe it's because Drake touches on vulnerable topics but answers them with polished matter-of-fact answers and that way it feels like a politician at the DNC Biden is reading directly into the teleprompter while at the rnc, Trump leans on the pulpit and improvises.

I don't even like Trump, but he actually says what he thinks and that makes him more likeable. Biden may be a better guy behind closed doors, but we don't even know him. and for many people, the evil you know is better than the evil you don't know. The rap radar interview gave me the impression that I don't trust Drake. I really like his music, but I don't trust him if Tyler says something. I'm like, yeah, that's exactly how he feels about Drake, he just says the right thing and maybe that's why we don't trust him. Some of my blacker friends can be just as cruel, on the other hand, you know, in making you feel. excluded sometimes I don't feel celebrated when I know that maybe someone else would be celebrated for those achievements you know, I don't feel like people say when Drake is the artist of the decade.

I don't think anyone will say wow a black artist is the artist of the decade I don't think anyone will say that I've never really heard anyone say that in the last few weeks Drake has always felt like an outsider and I feel sorry for him for that reason, that was part of its appeal from the beginning and what resonated with me because I've always been someone who never fit into one group when I think back on my high school experience, I remember sophomore year looking around the dining room and not knowing which table. sit down I had a couple of friends at multiple tables but no one was competing for me to sit with them so I picked one and sat at the end of the table, honestly no one wanted to talk to me.

It was not comprehensive. He wasn't actually part of the group. I jumped between three different tables that year, but as I got older and more confident in myself, I found my people and that wasn't a problem my last two years of high school. Drake is an artist that you feature in a foreplay that happens all the time and they won't judge you it's the least vulnerable I think it would be very difficult for me to date and have a conversation with someone about being a Drake fan it's like wearing Nike it's the most harmless that you can use no one would do to you for that but it doesn't say much about you as a person yes Drake is the

biggest

selling artist of all time in the US but when all is said and done I don't think That says a lot about The Art of The Avengers being the highest-grossing movie of all time, but is it the best movie of all time?

It's scary to expose yourself. We can all relate to Drake's origin, but we can also relate to why he is headed in the wrong direction. He has a big fan. base and he has the opportunity to raise the taste levels of him if you are able to understand and say: he's okay, cool, I get it, that's what a good song is, that's not what is needed as good music.
