Jun 05, 2021
Hello happy holidays, before I sign off on 2019, I have one more project to share with you and this is a good one. In this video you will splash a matte black Christmas ornament with a beautiful and delicate

pearl

white beaded

lace

pattern, these are a feminine

classic

. and delicate looking

ornaments

that will look great on any tree. Now this is an intermediate level project, but once you learn the techniques, you'll be able to easily do them in no time. In this video I used black and white you can use color and your ornament or your paint color you can mix it however you want so this is the ornament we will make today and it will be a fun project so let's get started right all you need for this project it is a craft.

Christmas ornament, this is just a matte black unbreakable ornament, so you will need a chalk marker so you can draw all the dividing lines on there. I'm using multi-surface

pearl

white folk art paints because it says you can use them. on plastic so I want to make sure I use the right paint but if you use regular acrylic paint just make sure you use a sealer at the end and then I'm sure you'll be fine. In fact I have tried a lot of different paints and most of them seem to work well so try what you have and see if it works because it might work and I am using an applicator bottle to apply the dots but you can use pencil tools and normal point tools.

More Interesting Facts About,

You will need some masking tape and then a piece of paper. It's just a quarter inch wide strip of paper and this is going to be the magic tool that tells you exactly how to divide your ornament into sections so let me show you how this is done so the first thing you need to do is grab your sheet of paper and the nice thing about unbreakable embellishments, let me zoom in real quick to see how there's like a seam that goes along the The halfway mark on these balls is really awesome because it gives you your vertical center point and you can use that to make sure everything lines up, so what I'm going to do is grab my piece of paper right now. what you want to do is just tape it down and figure out what the circumference of the center line of this item is so everyone has a different size ornament and that's why this will work for every ornament no matter what size it is.

Make one pattern each time and it will work for all your

ornaments

if they are all the same size so you fold it in half and then you can take it off so this right here is the exact link for the circumference of the ornament okay so It is absolutely along this center line and the way I learned this was through the art of Japanese Temari embroidery. I used to do it, that's a different video, but it's a nice hobby if I weren't as obsessed with points as I could be. on that, but let's do this, so what I want to do is divide this ball into six sections, so the way I do it is you take your paper and then you fold it like any business letter, so you take the top and bottom and Basically what we're doing here is we're just breaking it down into three three sections.

See how it's like a business letter fold, so you fold the top down and the bottom up and then you see how now we have three sections, so how do we get to six sections, after folding it into thirds? you fold it in half and now you have six systems, that's a hard word to say, but just six six sections, look how when I unfold it it's like a magic show guys, so it went from thirds and now it's six, like this which I'm going to take my pen and I'm going to mark each of these fold lines like this and you can see one, two, three, four, five, six sections, it's not that great, so now you have what divides your ornament into six and then I just do it. we'll hit the ball again, make sure it's as level as possible and then boom, there you see, everything good, so now I'm going to take my chalk marker and this is the type that I use this is the one that I like Markers of Kay and Mom's chalk, it's like a three millimeter tip, it looks like my kids have gotten into it, although it's a little bit, it has color, so now we're just marking each one. one of these lines like this on our ball and there you have it, it's now divided into six sections, so now we're going to go up to the top and divide this.
We know this is part of the lines because it has the seam. on it, so you just follow the seam up and then do exactly the other side and then I don't know if I can line this up perfectly, but you can see here that you can line it up when you look directly at it now. m I'm pretty honest that what you can do is just take a good look at it and I can't look at the camera and do that at the same time, so I'm going to look at it. to point it directly at me so I can see where those sections are, so there it is, now what we're going to do is p

lace

our points and what I'm going to do is have a lattice like this one that you have. lattice along this section and then make like little pieces of lace at the bottom, so we'll come back to this and I'm going to place this along this line right now.
What I want to do, I think I'm going to stop it. right here, so I'm going to do one, two, three, so I'm going to do it like one, two, three, like that mark, mark, mark and then I'm going to do this in each of these sections, so put the end on the top of the ornament, first point, second point, the point, align it with the top of the ornament and that point aligning with this point C and then do it around you, okay, now I have all my points set up. The next step is to put a point between those points, okay, so this is like this, so going from this to this, going right between that one on that one and that one on that one, right in the middle, and then I'm. doing that in every way, now I have my grid.
This is the basic lace grid for the entire top half of the ball. Now it's time to paint, so I have this cup and it's the exact circumference of my ball and I just glue it on. it's there, but you can use all kinds of different things, you can use playdough or some kind of putty or even just a little tape, just put it in there and it works. I like this because it's like it's kind of foolproof, I can't, I can't let it fall off and that's okay, so I'm going to take a big tip, so I have this tip that I'm going to use, it's a big tip. wide gauge so it's going to give me a lot of paint these are the biggest dots in my

design

so I'm going to use something that's really wide and this is a good one to use it's going to be very easy to get the paint to squish so just shake it a couple times and make sure all the paint is on the tip of the bottle and then what I usually do is just take a piece of paper and make a couple dots just to make sure all the air bubbles are gone. out and ready to Okay, now what I'm going to do is place a dot on top just so each of these six places just one big dot.
Okay, now I'm going to place a large dot on each of these points around the whole. Same size ball now. The nice thing about using these applicator bottles is that you don't have to refill your tool, so it saves you from having to pick up your tool and go get the paint and then come back because you lose your place when you do. each time, just a little bit, so if you can keep your tool in the same basic location and just squeeze to get the paint, then that's good. I found that it was a great help to you, so I couldn't wait. to dry, and I'm going to go in with the middle point, so you start with the middle point first and what I'm doing is looking at these four points right here, I'm placing a point directly between them and it's a little bit smaller. but still bigger than the points that we're going to use to connect everything and it will make sense once I'm done so now what I'm going to do is we now have the entire grid of points that We need these to be the largest points and now what we're going to do is connect them all with tiny dots, so I'm going to take this tip, this is one of the larger, wider gauge tips and I'm going to take it off and then I'm going to use one of the smaller ones, so this is a good example, this pink one with a metal tip, this is one of the smaller sizes and then I'm going to take my piece of paper and just make sure there are no bubbles and everything comes out okay, so this tip will create extra small dots, like this that we will measure exactly.
I'm thinking maybe three dots is what will connect those dots, so let's go. to start with the center and then do the two on each side so that the center to hold the glass is fine. Center and then two and you'll notice that some points are closer together than others and that's okay, but center and then on each side. I'm getting some bubbles and that's okay, and you'll see it start to really look, you can see things start to come together and you just make diagonal lines connecting diagonal lines all the way around and you'll see they come out as small. curls and because this is a medium body multi-surface paint, it will maintain that rough texture and feel and look really great.
It just adds a new area of โ€‹โ€‹interest to your work when you have three-dimensional dots that are fun to touch and catch light a little differently than flat dots. I see that four would fit in there, but I think to keep it uniform I'm going to stick with three, so you think you get the idea what I'm going to do. Same thing all the way around and then I'll see you at the end of this, so now we've got all the diagonal lines done and you can see it already looks super Lacy over there, nothing's dry.
It's also wet and I'm impatient, so the next step is to connect all of these six Seabees points with the ones directly below them, so this will be a trick because these are still wet, but we're just going to you and I think I'm going to do from big to small, why not like this? The biggest point goes here and then you narrow it down and you're actually going to make a line, skip this. one make another line, skip that one and we'll do it every way, so the biggest point tapers down, skip that one or just skip that one, there's my son, don't worry, grandma's here, so I've got We do this quickly and Okay, so what are we going to do with this guy?
That is a good question. I hadn't really thought about that, but it needs to connect somehow, so I think what I'm going to do is connect us vertically like these shapes do. like this, again we'll do the biggest to the smallest and we'll try to get the same number on both sides like this, like this, so, two, three, four, five, one, two, three, four, you're okay, there we are , we reach the end. and this is the perfect stopping point because now we can't go any further down without this part being dry, so I'm going to let this hang and let it dry completely, so I'm going to give it like I don't know. maybe an hour or two and then we'll come back when it's all solid and do the rest right, so one quick thing before I go, I want to make sure you know that at this point you need to take the tips off. and close your bottle, so simply place the spout cap on your bottle and this will save for months.
This is just like storing it in your normal acrylic bottle, but the tips you want to make sure are clean, so wash them really well with water. and then you're ready to move on with these, just to make sure you have a really good cleaning schedule, keep them clean and in good shape, don't let them get clogged, if they do get clogged there's a way to clean them out and just with a pin and a little bit of alcohol, but if you keep them clean with water you'll never need to touch a pin and it's done, so I'll go wash them and let them dry and then we'll finish this.
Hello welcome. It's been overnight now, so my model has dried and I'll just show you that the dots are nice and puffy, they're completely dry and it's got a really cool surface texture. They look like little pearls and I'm super happy. with how it's turning out, so the next step is to add some strings of beads that look like little necklaces at the bottom, so for that I'm going to take my piece of paper and what I'm going to do is just mark. where I want the bottom of the arc of those strings to be, so I think I want it to be just like there are shallow taut beads and I'm going to mark each one from the bottom of this point to that line on every two points, so I'm going to check one, skip one, check another, skip one, check this one.
Okay, now what I'm going to do is use my chalk marker and just draw arcs so that it connects in the center of this. The point and goes touches the mark we just made and connects to the other point, so it starts in the center and arcs up to Matt to meet that line and then arcs up to meet this point now. , if you are not sure how to make these arch shapes. You can make a template out of a piece of paper and just use that cut piece of paper as a guide or you can even use a circle template and see if it works, so if you have one of these you could probably even use that.
I'm going to see, yeah, like this, by the way, these are amazing, if you don't have these circle templates, these are really useful all the time and yeah, they make your life moreeasy when you are not so confident in your circle drawing skills. so here we go, this is number 19, this is one of the tiny gauge tips and it makes extra small dots, put the tip on, I just want to shake it so that all the paint goes and runs to the front of the bottle. make a couple of dots just to make sure that all the air bubbles are out and now for these, these are going to be just standard chains of little dots, okay, like this, all the same size along that mark.
Now some of you see the disaster that is about to befall me and I am very happy. that I could see that this cup is now a risk, okay, so do points like this, okay, so now what I'm going to do is duplicate this thread so that you know, it mimics the same arc. but have the second thread fall about an eighth of an inch below the one on top with the level that the one on top has, so now that I've marked that I'm going to go up here and I think I'm going to catch it . right there and working down and then back up again like this and you know what I think I'm going to go up to you guys wondering why I use stencils and that's why this chalk line along the way washes off with water so all These lines that you see us making are temporary.
Well now I have at least a guide that will keep me on track because I don't like that so I'm going to delete it. here you go, so now what I'm going to do is add drop shapes to each of these, so each of these points that is between these two bead strands we're just going to make a point here and then we're going to drag it over. above. to meet and then we'll add two small dots to each side and connect them like this and do that for each section, so make a big drop shape in the middle and then two small solutions along the sides.
Well, after looking at this for a while, I decided to change it. I'm actually going to make three strands of pearls and finish it like this, I think that's going to be exactly where I want to go with this one. This will be a variation of the one I was trying to copy, but I think I like the simplicity of this one a lot better, so now I'm just sketching out that third layer of pearls and then I'm going to put dots on it. right above it and now for this one I'm going to do something a little bit different and my dots are going to start small and then as they go down I'm going to make them bigger and bigger and then I'm going to have them smaller and smaller so that the pearl thread look like you have a lot of pearls of different sizes, from small to large, let's try it, okay, shake it and small beads, now I'm going to adjust the pressure so that now you have the maximum pressure in the bottle and then I'm going to release the pressure and there I don't know if you can see those points that narrow as they go down, they get bigger, the space is wider and then I release the pressure and the points get smaller and tighter, so very little pressure It is what brings us closer, more pressure and more space between the points I release the pressure and the points are smaller and closer together.
I also found that with the smaller stitches I'm a little faster than for the larger stitches I slowed down, spaced them out Oops and then here and then now we're done, that's the last row of stitches so here's the finished ornament What do you think of this project? I like it as much as I do, it's a lot of fun, so we learned how to divide an ornament into an equal number of segments, we learned how to make a lace

design

, we learned how to make little strands of pearls and now this is the final step.
I'm just going to wipe that chalk line with a wet towel, look how easy it is, it just comes off and no one has to know, it's like you never even used them, but it's our little secret, so here we go and now the secret is. ours and whoever watches this video so once you get the hang of this way of painting you can do interesting things and I wanted to show you some variations that you can try, you can adjust the length of the drop shapes and the length of the necklace. strung beads you can make them long and short you can have more divisions by adding more folds to your strip of paper divider and you can even experiment with color, although I like these in one color I also tend to go crazy and why not use a second color as a flat base color and then add puffy dots on top.
I think it's a cool look but you can use this in your mandala work on your stones and it's a really cool technique to apply to your work so there's another monument to add to your collection.
