. I have never considered myself someone who is fashionable. I'll only tell you what I know about how I look and why I look that way. This is Jolene's album. cover from 1974. Well actually this was a big time in my

life

because I was about to have one of the biggest hits I've ever had, that was the song jolene of course I made a whole album called jolene the designer of the set. It was Lucy Adams, a lady who sewed my clothes in Nashville, she and Ruth Kemp were the ones who kept me going in those early days.

We did different postures on stools, lay on the floor, sat, squatted and all that. So this particular little jumpsuit because it was so mobile was really good and I always loved the puff sleeves. I felt comfortable in this little outfit. Well, this, of course, was my first big crossover record. This is the cover of the album "Here You Come Again". I could have put this together myself, it's just a shirt with "not shown" on my belly and a pair of blue jeans, but that big old puffy hair, I imagine someone probably said, doesn't that look like a little Merlin to you?

Marilyn Manson? I like it better, but I was still really hoping that this particular record, "Here You Come Again," would be a hit because all my fans in the country and a lot of people in the business were like Dolly, you're making a big mistake. I don't need to give up country music. I said I won't leave the country. I'll take country everywhere I go because I'm country, but I was so happy when Here You Come Again. It became my first million-selling record, so every photo and everything that has to do with it is very special to me oh yeah, yeah, this was 1980, this was the premiere of nine to five, I was with jane and lily and of course that was such an exciting time in my life, it was the first movie i ever had.

I've never been a part of I've never seen a movie made up to that point and they even memorized the entire script thinking they made it like a play where you had to know your lines, that's just because I'm a redneck fool but it's okay , I have to dress like I'm a city girl in this and I never really thought about being fashionable. I always wore things that looked good on me, but I knew that for something as big as a premiere I thought I had to be elegant. and i didn't know how to do it, so ann roth, who designed all the nine to five clothes, i asked her to make me a dress and she did.

I thought it was a beautiful dress. I remember feeling very pretty and I felt like I was well dressed and not half assed like sometimes you are and I just remember it was probably the first time I probably felt like that. It was fashionable. Well, this was the premiere of Rhinestone and we were certainly well dressed. I'm sure that dress was also designed by the person who designed all the clothes for the movie. I remember thinking I had to look good because Stallone was sexier than Dooley at the time. I knew he would be dressed to the nines because he really goes. everything she does, so I tried to look as good as possible as Dolly, but although this movie was not a big success, it was a big success for me because I had a great time months before I had some health problems and I have Been out of work for a while, this was the first time I came back to do big things and Stallone is such a crazy person, he's so funny and so direct that he really lifted my spirits and I wrote some of the best songs I ever wrote for that movie, so it depends on how you view success.
This is a photo from 1987. I had a variety show that was on the air for a while and Oprah Winfrey had come to do the show. I have been in it. she appeared often and I asked her if she would come be on my show and she said, well you know, I can't sing, I said, oh, everyone can sing a little, so anyway she was a good sport and came, we had a choir and everything behind us and we sang a little and I remember we loved our outfits. This was designed by Tony Chase. He made all the costumes for my entire variety show, so this was one of my favorite little dresses.
He was big and tall. Always trying to get into all those clothes, he had those big old shoulders and all those things that were so fashionable, I said, Tony, I just have to tone it down a little bit. There's nothing important about me except my mouth and my breasts, how you think I look. that's what I thought this photo was from 1988 this is from a Christmas at home special I did oh this is great well of course you can't go wrong with a choir when I wear white I always feel like I'm singing to god , but I also love Christmas, so I always dress according to the season.
I have all my sweaters with the bells and the holly and the Christmas trees on them so every day from Christmas Eve to New Years I'll be wearing my Christmas clothes and by the way I have a new Christmas album called Holly Dolly Christmas what else Will it come out this season? So I'm going to do a lot of shows and wear a lot of white, red and green, and I already have clothes prepared for that. Well, this one is from 1989. This was also designed by Tony Chase. All the clothes I wore that night were designed by Tony Chase, except for the little skits I did, where I had to wear little clothes that they had, but I was the host of the show. and I was also the musical guest and my appearance is not easy.
I don't just put on a shirt to do something. I have to rip it all the way off, take off my hair, take off my clothes, put everything on and I mean, I was a nervous wreck and I was exhausted before the show was over, but I had some of the best costumes. This is me in 2005 with Elton John on the cma show. I had recorded an album and made this song. Beatles song and he was nice enough to come sing that song with me and of course I was trying to dress like Elton John and he was trying to look like someone else, I guess at that time he was dressing and I was dressing up. that looked like a little lord was that fountain leroy little lord fought leroy freely and very well, i know i always like to wear a lot of makeup more than i probably should, but i think more is more and whoever did it Well, This is me at the Kennedy Center for the Kennedy Center Honors in 2006 and I was very proud to be a part of that because it's a very prestigious thing.
I remember all these stars there and all these. wonderful artists who sang my songs and were making a big deal about me and I felt very honored, very flattered of course, but I remember I loved this dress that Robert made, my hair looked especially good and that was for sure, riddle, who made that hair, but this. One was a very special night for me and I wanted to look special and feel special and I did it right, this is 2014. And I was at the Glastonbury festival. I was a little afraid to go to the festival because I thought they weren't going to go.
They know who I am, they're not going to like my music and it turned out to be one of the best things I've ever done and will probably go down in history as one of my biggest hits and this group. It was also a big success for me. Steve Summers designed this wonderful outfit because I love working in pants, but these pants have sheer fishnet and chiffon legs and I sit on the stool a lot, I'm up and down, so it's hard. for me to work in a glamorous dress so steve designed this outfit that had all the glamor of a dress but all the good ways I could move and make it still look glamorous and long lasting so this was a wonderful outfit and this was a wonderful day, all those people out there, I mean, I don't know how many hundreds of thousands of people, the biggest crowd I've ever worked with and they seem to like me, this is 2019 at the Grammys that I was honored by. the night before and Miley Cyrus, who is my goddaughter and I love her, I've known her since she was a little baby, she was singing with me that night in one of my songs, we felt very pretty, she was dressed and I don't know who designed her. his, but mine was steve summers, billy ray and me, his father were friends from the beginning, but molly also loves my songs and has recorded jolene and that is one of his songs that he has in all his shows, thank you to her when she was young in hannah montana.
I brought together this whole new generation of young fans. I really give Molly a lot of credit for some of my younger fans and for a lot of the new generation of girls who know her and know that she knows me. It's like a wonderful little connection. I have Molly and Billy Ray, they are like family to me.
