Dollar Tree Spring DIYs 2020 Look For Less Spring DIY 2020

Feb 27, 2020
Hello girls, welcome to my channel, today is the for

less

look

and I can't wait to share what I made. My first

look

for

less

project comes from Josh and Maine, they were selling them for about $15, they are not on sale and I know we can. make them for pennies, pennies, super cheap, super affordable and the look is identical, so go ahead and grab a black foam core board, cut it to size. I made a 5 by 7 size and then for the corners I just matched it up. up on my cutting mat and then from corner to corner on the box I cut a nice line on both top corners of my tag and then to create the hole for your string you're going to take the ruler circle that you saw there and we're just going to cut around after you've traced it and once you've cut everything out, you're going to go ahead and paint it.

Now I'm going for that chalkboard look and how I do it with paint. mix cream with black, it has more of a slate gray color than using black and white. I feel like it looks a little more faded once the paint is completely dry. Then I'll take my pencil and I'll draw. the number for our family members, so I'm going to make number 5. I thought it would be really cute to display it all year round somewhere in my house on a shelf on a table, but I love the way it looks and this is the thing. friends I know that many people have crickets or silhouettes but there are many people who still do not have them, I have them in my house and I am very grateful to have them and I feel very blessed to have them but but I want everyone to see that if you do not have a machine super sleek cut all you need is to use paint and a fine tip brush because you can get the same look and you know maybe at first you feel like you know it.

More Interesting Facts About,

Painting on my hand is a little tricky, but the more you practice, the more you keep painting and trying, the better and better you will get at it and I keep playing with it until I get the look I want and the other tip. This is when you paint white on black, sometimes the black can bleed through a little, so I make sure to go over it a few times to make sure it looks nice and crisp. I like it when it has that nice crisp white. look at the slate gray and then at the end and oh, I'm taking my time because it's smaller letters and then the dot.

I'm going to twist my brush and touch a little dot with the end of my brush, so again don't feel intimidated by having to go out and buy machines to be able to create this look. You can paint them by hand and save even more money. This is actually a super inexpensive project and has a great nice impact on your decorative shelves now I'm going to take some brown paint and I'm just going to touch up a couple of corners here and there to give it that rustic look like it's been weathered. salt air and then to continue with that coastal farmhouse look that I love and I know is also the Jam and Yami's style on his channel.

I'm going to take some of this nautical rope that I picked up from the Dollar Tree, slipped it out, made a loop in it, and then twisted it. Put them back together and tie a knot at the top and then continue with that nice worn beach feel. I'm going to fray the ends of the rope now that this rope came from the Dollar Tree, as well as the other supplies I'm going to use in this video, but I love this rope because there are three ropes twisted together and when you untwist them it triples the value of this rope, so it's a really cool rope, you can use it really thick or you can thin it out.
Now I decided to make one more version of these labels just to show everyone that they have a lot of potential. I think they are so cute to put in your house. I'm going to grab some more white paint and see here. I'm not doing any pencil sketches. I'm just handing this out freely and this is just a time for my product to sing and practice and just enjoy painting letters and numbers by hand, so I'm going to take my time and just write. the word welcome and again feel free to write it first in pencil and then paint it.
A fun tip is to take the greenery that you can get from the

dollar

tree

and glue the ends together and that's how I create a mini vine from the Dollar Tree right now there are

spring

flowers that are just putting out their flower packets, they have these leaves, They have all the colors pink, blue, white, yellow and these leaves are so cute and when you glue their tips you can create a vine, so I'm just gluing them together to create a little wreath. I'm going to add a lace bow, this lace is also from the Dollar Tree and then I'm going to add another one of those ropes to give it that nautical touch. sorry but I still have that farmhouse style that I think a lot of us love and then I'm going to distress it one more time with that brown paint to give it that rustic, beachy, weathered, salty look, if you don't know the less look is created by Yami from the Latino neighbor, another one of my dear friends who started YouTube around the same time as me, she and her co-host, who is Natalie from design to ninth, are putting together this challenge.
There is a linked playlist. under my description box be sure to check them out, they should be at the top of the playlist as well as all the other girls playing along with this challenge. The next one looks less. I was dying when I saw this price. I can not believe it. this was selling for $49 and on sale for $39 because Dollar Tree actually sells succulents starting this time of year. It costs $1 for each of these stems. I picked up some of this Spanish moss and then this white bowl in her kitchen section. all of these together were much cheaper than what they sold them at Pottery Barn and I think it's a good knockoff if you love having a succulent look in your home for plants so grab a regular pair of scissors that you know are starting to Almost go out the door you don't mind using to cut the plastic, cut next to the edge and take your time, chop as close as you can and then cut the handles, they actually cut pretty easily.
I'm showing you. at real speed how fast they come off and then you're going to take some foam squares and you're just going to stick them to the bottom of that container then you're going to take some moss and you're going to pull it apart massage it a little bit because when it's in the package it's like a really tight ball to fit in there, so you'll just pull it apart and then you'll hot glue it onto the styrofoam so it doesn't fall out. Eventually, you'll just take your succulents and pop them back into the Styrofoam.
Can you see why I said I was surprised at how much they charged for that plant, so they sell succulents at Pottery Barn? and they had this one that I have here. They sold three of them for $20. I think that's what it was. It could have cost $25. If you buy them at Dollar Tree, you can buy three for $3. Go buy some succulents. It's worth it. If you're new to my channel and coming from the playlist, welcome, my name is Heidi, I'm halfway with Heidi and I post on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, Mondays and Fridays. I make craft videos.
I do this thing called friend Friday and then on Wednesdays I clean with me. Okay, let's move on to the third and final project, which is this topiary. I couldn't believe it was originally $1.99 and we're making it for so much cheaper now. I'm very excited about this. project because this is a new product at Dollar Tree, run right to your

dollar

tree

s and pick them up, but don't buy them all so I can pick them up anyway, they're cool, they're these spheres. which are made from metal wire and if you've been shopping there for a while you'll know that they are the same wires that they use for their wreath rings so what I'm going to do to start is Cut this sign off now it's just because I didn't want to leave Running to the store and buying another one because they actually sell these smaller ones but I just need a base for my topiary so I'm going to cut this out and then I'm going to reattach one of the sides so I can get the right size for my base of topiary again.
They sell these smaller signs and I was being lazy and didn't want to drive to the store, plus they didn't want to. to spend another dollar I already had this one and knew I could cut it down to the right size, so if you have one on hand that's already smaller then you're set, but once I have it all figured out and scaled down to size Then I'll take some e6000 and a little bit of hot glue to make sure it stays in place while the e6000 dries and then I'm going to take this candle holder and hot glue it at 6000. to one of these plastic pots they have at Dollar Tree again, all these supplies are from Dollar Tree and this is super affordable.
I spent nine dollars to make these things versus a crazy $1.99, so once I have my base and everything ready I'm going to take a piece of foam core and you can see here it's a little bit smaller than the base and I want I can make sure the top of the planner and the glass adhere well to the bottom but if I try to apply East 6000 or hot glue on the foam core piece it will eventually come off and break so what I decided to do was to trace the base of the chandelier, the glass on the foam core, I cut it out and then hot glued it on and then I took some e6000 and put it on the base which is a thicker, harder surface so I could hold it on Compared to the foam core, I added a little more hot glue around it and then inserted the glass stem into the base, this will allow it to really dry and adhere well.
These are the flower stems they have now. These are the ones I also use to make that vine earlier on the tag. They are called wildflowers and I love them. The other flower I have here was actually in the fall. I think they got along all year. I've seen it for a long time, but I'm going to remove those little green ones that you just saw me holding there now to do. Make sure your spear stays in place, you'll open it to your liking and then you'll take the hot glue and just glue it into place.
Now I want to create it to look like dried vines. over time, as you would see in a normal topiary, out of the stems and vines, so first I'll take some twine and lightly wrap each of its sides and then at the top to create a sort of effect of ball by twisting it around Abed, going down one side, looping around the bottom, coming back up to the side adding more on top until I get the desired look I want for this topiary and then once they are all. ready, you're just going to cut it down so you don't see anything weird, you know, 20 and sticking out and glue it in place, that's what the top looks like.
I think it looks so pretty like this, especially when you start adding all of our greenery and flowers, so I'm going to go ahead and just remove all the flowers from their bundle, stem the wires, and cut the ends to separate them as much as you don't want. any of them should be grouped together because we want it to look like their vines are tangled around this sphere like you would see them outside in a garden, so one by one you will take the hot glue, don't burn your fingers connected multiple times. and then you're going to put some greenery, maybe a flower, maybe a little more of that greenery and you're going to keep blending it and make it flow natural and pretty, and I didn't do it the same way. length on each side of the sphere some were less a little bit lower some all the way to the top that knot that I made with the thread and you'll see at the end when I show it all wrapped up with all this greenery how you don't want it to be so obviously consistent, you want it to be It looks like you know some are growing better than others and that makes it look more real and natural, so when someone sees it in your house they think Wow, that's cool, you have something like that in your house and you'll say I did that, I did it.
I made it myself, so here's the final look and you can see, like I said, some go all the way to the top and some don't. Now, once everything was dry, I spray painted it black to get that cast iron look that we had as inspiration and then I'm going to go a little bit lighter than the black, a very, very dark slate gray. Lightly blot some of that paint with a brush because we want to create that cast iron look on our planter and then, you know, just add back a little bit of black where you feel like it's gone too light because it's supposed to look black, but you want to.
Just so you know, it looks like cast iron and then again because I love this rustic look and this is the theme of what I'm doing with this video and all of these projects. I'm just going to go back in with some lightly brown paint. touching the corners here and there and then blending it in with the black to create that really quite rustic look in the air, the salty sea air, once everything is dry and you've gone around all the desired places in your pot. Now we're ready to start filling it, so I'm going to take a square of foam, cut it to size and make sure it fits really well because we want it to last a long time and then I'm going to hot glue it on. everything in its place.
I'll also make sure to fill in the sides to make sure it's really snug in there and that the hot glue holds it well. Another tip is that you don't want it to be too high. there because you don't want it to clash with your topiary, you want to make sure it's okay now. I will reduce thespeed for the next part because I want everyone to see really well what I'm doing and I don't want to go too fast, so I'm going to take some wire bending it in half like this and then I'm going to put it on the end of the topiary that goes towards the pot and then I'm going to hold it as close as I can to the topiary sphere and I'm going to just twist it to create a nice tight twisted piece of wire on top and it's going to do that because the topiary itself will come off easily if you just hot glue it on or eats 6 thousand, so what am I going to do?
What I do is I create this wire support and then I put a little bit of glue here on my foam and I'll take that wire and I'll push it into the foam and it'll help hold it up. Make it even more comfortable and safe without falling. Once you have it in place, you can look for glue around the sides where the stain touches the pot and it will stay there for a long time. I won't have to worry about it falling apart or rolling away when someone hits it. Once you've hot glued everything into place, you'll then grab some ferns that they also have at Dollar Tree right now. tell you that that doesn't mean there are so many beautiful flowers.
I am very impressed this year. I think you'll hear me say that a lot in my videos. I'll try to hold back and make that comment every time, but I get so excited with each new season that they keep bringing better and better things, so you're going to go ahead and put up some of those ferns and then you're also going to take some of your green moss and fill it in to cover it . I'm going to remove all the foam and then I'm going to take a little bit more of these little wildflower stems and I'm going to put them in there now to finish off that nautical farmhouse beach look.
I'm going to take some of that thick rope and I'm just going to wrap it around the base. The other reason I decided to do this is that it just cleaned up the look of the bottom base and I don't know, I personally liked the way it looked, you don't have. do this part but I really liked it, I thought it looked really nice when it was all done, so I'm going to take another rope and I'm going to hot glue the back so it stays in place and then I'm just going to tie an overhand knot on the front and I'm going to fray the ends of the rope to create that nice nautical look again.
I think I have it pretty much in mind, that farmhouse beach look, coastal look. because we're thinking about warmer weather, it's very cold right now in Missouri. I miss the California weather I grew up with my whole life so this is the final look if you haven't already make sure to hit the subscribe button so you don't miss all my upcoming craft videos and cleaning with me the Wednesdays.
