DIY Farmhouse Faux Flocked Christmas Trees - Without Any Mess - Genius

Apr 07, 2024
Hello guys, welcome back to my channel. Today I am going to share with you some Christmas

trees

that I will be using in my home decor this year and they look great in groups of at least three. They are super easy to make. They are inexpensive and you won't believe what they are made of if you want how to make them stay. I'll show you thanks for watching I love you guys okay. I'm going to start with a paper mache cone. I bought this at Hobby Lobby and then I bought some tinsel on Amazon it's a

flocked

tinsel and you get 50 feet for this Glock tinsel and all you're going to do is start at the top of your tree and you're going to start wrapping it and then as you wrap it you're going to glue it as you go because you want to make sure it's stuck because if you don't and someone flips it over.

It will come off, so start from the top and start gluing as you go. I'm making a 23 inch one here in the video. I also made two 17 inch and two 12 inch and to make all of those. It took two rolls of this tinsel and it cost ten dollars a roll. If you don't want to make many you can easily get one 17 inch and two 12 inch ones from a roll of tinsel, just keep rolling and push it up a little as you go, not too much because you don't want to waste too much but you want to make sure Fill it in and stick it in as you go, you don't have to put it in. a lot of glue, I'm just doing like a bead each, probably four or five rolls and then after you get to the bottom, it just keeps going around and you want to make sure you stick more of that on the bottom area.

Just go around there to glue it on, now go ahead and pull it back just to make sure you've got all of this covered, now you don't have to do the little stand part, just the base. just the tree part because we're going to put it in a little galvanized bucket, just check it twice and then separate the tinsel really well so you don't cut too much, this really didn't come off much. and this doesn't look like cheap tinsel like you sometimes see in the store and things like that. It really had a nice effect, in fact it had a bit of a glow to it, almost like it had little white lights on.

So it's a really good product, it turned out really good and then you go ahead and run your hands down a little bit to fan it a little bit and there you have it, how nice that the next one I use, I use a gap. um tube and you can use any type of cone you want. The gaps are a little less expensive than the one the base had, but I'll show you real quick how far I got with this one. It's 17 inches, that's how far I got before having to use a second roll of the utensil and then from there on, the rest filled another 17 and two more twelves.

I finished all my

trees

. I'm going to go ahead and clean my buckets. I have these galvanized buckets at Dollar Tree and I'm going to remove all the jute from them and then I'm going to clean up all that sticky stuff. Now I'm just taking a heat source and rubbing it on there, don't touch it right after doing this because it will burn, just make sure you wait a few seconds and then start running your finger over it and all that glue started coming off. It's pretty quick and easy there, I'm just finishing it off with some Goo Gone, just make sure you have it completely clean.
Next, I'm just going to take a bucket and I'm going to take some white vinegar and I'm going to saturate a shirt, I'm just using a t-shirt for this, you can use any type of towel or whatever you have, you're just going to go ahead and make sure that it's completely saturated and then you're going to roll your little container inside and then I'm going to show you the different effects depending on how long you leave it in here, okay, this is what it looked like first, if you leave it overnight, it looks like this if you leave it in about a day and a half it looks like this, if you like the white part, leave it there for two hours, then we're going to make our five-pointed star, I'm just going to take this pattern that I give it to you. the description below and I'm going to take a quarter inch by six inch stick and I'm going to mark it on the tip there and I'm going to cut it and I'm going to cut them all the same Exact length, so we're just making a star of five inches, but you want to make sure they are all exactly the same length.
Well, I'll paint them next. I'll take some French linen and some Javanese folk art chalk paint. and I'm going to mix them up and I'm just going to paint my sticks. I'm going to try to make it look like wood, so I'm going to use several other colors to give it a more wood-like look. Come back with some black and I'm going to dry brush this to get most of the black out of there and we're just going to scratch it in there, just rotate your stick while you're doing that, we're just trying to give it a little bit of texture by adding some colors different to give it a little bit of depth so you can put as much black as you want in there, but they started to look more like bars the more color I added and I added a little bit of black and then I come back with a little bit of dark brown and I'm just going to apply a dry brush, you know, because the stick will be various colors, so you just want it to look a little more realistic.
I'm going to do the star and I'm going to go slow on this because I want everyone to see how To do this, you're going to go ahead and take some glue on the top of this, you're going to use your pattern and we're going to overlap them, then we're going to go in where it overlapped and we're going a place the robot with the cross under that one and over the other one and just glue it on the back and then on top to glue them together and once they're dry we'll go ahead and do our rope on these just to make sure they stay in place while we do the other ones, just make sure you have that straight line, okay, next we're going to take some Jude to start tying these and we're just going to start cutting into strips, they'll probably be about 14 inch strips and then we'll start tying up the little connecting pieces, so we'll start at the top and just go over there, tie a little bit. knot and then we're going to wrap our rope around there about five or six times and then we're going to tie it in the back and I'm tying mine in three knots just to make sure it stays and then I'm going to put some hot glue just to make sure it doesn't open.
Then we'll do the same with the other two, this will really strengthen it while you try it. to put it all together and then do this the reverse of what you just did, the other one so they match on the front. Okay, next we're going to add another stick and we're going to go under the bottom and over the top. the one that crosses under the dot at the bottom and over the one at the top and then once they're dry we'll go ahead and tie them with some string as well just go over there and tie it in a knot and then just five or six turns and then tie them.
You could do a lot of things with these stars. They would even look cute on wrapping paper or even on your Christmas tree. They are really pretty stars and the last one we are going to put on. put it under the one that crosses over and over the one at the point at the bottom and then just go ahead and tie all your little knots in that one too then go back and tie in all the places where they intersect in the middle and make the knot. tie a small knot and wrap it around each of those, you just want to tighten it and this will make your star lie flat, so make sure you tighten it well, you're not going to break your sticks. just squeeze it and it will put it all together right everywhere where the sticks intersect and that's what it will look like when it's done.
Now we're going to go ahead and make the treetop part of it that we're going to grab. our wire and we're going to wrap a wire around the bottom a couple of times just pull it tight because you want to make sure it stays and you're probably going to use about 13 inches on that and then go ahead and stick it on the bottom where it comes right out of the bottom and then we're going to take a stick to wind it up so just take a stick about an inch down and we're going to start twisting it so that We can put the little spiral part on our tree and then make sure it's in position vertically, open it up and then we'll attach it to the top of our tray, we'll just put it down there. and you're going to pull out your tinsel with it and then we're going to go ahead and glue it on top and then we're going to pull out our stencil again and I'll show you how I do that, just glue it on. in and I'm just taking a little rod and I'm going to start pulling it out and I'm going kind of slow because you don't want to break the tinsel, just get it out in there so it's so it's not squashed against there, right through all those loops, keep going. taking it out until you get them all right and then I'm using these sticks on the smaller trees, these are little four inch sticks.
I bought them on Amazon. I'll give you the link for those, just try to make sure you get five that are fairly similar in size and don't have a lot of knots. You want to make sure they're not twisted and just make sure you get five that match and try not to get knots, so you'll build this one from the smallest jig and I give you the link for that in the description below and you can build it exactly like we do. . I just did the last one and then we'll go back the same way we did the last one and we'll just go ahead and wrap our wire around and fix the tops of our trees now that we have all of our trees.
With the decorations finished, we are going to go ahead and start building our containers to place our trees. Now we're going to use three of these larger cubes for the larger trees and we're just going to cut a piece of the floral foam and glue it to the bottom and then we're going to add some stones in there, just a couple of stones in there just to hold it up. This one here is 23 inches and has the one with the base. that goes all the way here, so you're going to make the little floral foam a little bit shallower because it's going to go inside and then the same thing with one of the 17 inch ones that I had too.
I did the same with that one. and then I'll show you what I do with the ones that don't have a core inside, but you only need a couple of stones, not too many, okay, so I'm going to take this one and I'm just going to put glue on the bottom and I'm going to glue it right on top. There you have the smallest ones. I'm going to use these little galvanized milk jugs that I bought at Hobby Lobby and this one. it's got a quart with no core on the inside so I'm going to take some floral foam and I'm just going to push it up into there and you don't need to glue it because it's going to go, it's going to go narrow by inside so that it's inside and then we'll go ahead and put some floral foam in here as well and then we'll join the two with a rod and you don't You don't have to go very low because that will stay on top, it won't go past that point anyway, just make sure you get the foam in there and I broke mine off go ahead and glue it in and then don't I don't need any weight on this one okay so I'm just going to take a quarter inch by six dowel.
I'm going to sharpen both sides. I'm going to push half of it into the milk jug. and the other half on my tree and then do your other trees the same way, all good, these turned out super cute. I wish you could see them in person, they are so beautiful if you like these types of videos, like them if you want to see them.
