Jun 07, 2021
Hello everyone, welcome back to my channel, today we will continue with the DIY Dollar Tree farm

tips

and tricks. I found some

shiplap

grateful art that cost like fifty-two

dollar

s for Nancy, obviously it wasn't available, but I'm going to use these. two string art pieces from the Dollar Tree, as well as some Apple Barrel white craft paint. I feel like I should marry him and we're going to use a wall sticker that says I appreciate these. I just received some images online. Thanks one we're going to use, but I'm going to show you how I'm going to do my de

sign

process and we're going to use a black marker if you don't want to use it.

Be thankful we're going to do it. talks about that too and a scissors and the scissors that we're going to use to remove the rope so you don't really need the scissors if you have pliers or something so let me go back and say

farmhouse

decor,

shiplap

barn wood , all of those things are very, very common in

farmhouse

decor, Dollar Tree released them when they first came out, they were very hard to find and then I personally discovered that the stores I went to had like a second round of them and then they were like there were a lot of them, of course, that's not everywhere, so if you can't find them, we'll go over different ways.

More Interesting Facts About,

I'll show you different techniques that if you can't find them and how you can create the shiplap barn board with just paint, but here I'll show you an easy way to make a

sign

. It's like I said the sign was overlapping, said grateful, and was $52 on Etsy. We're not going to do this for $52. It will take about three more paint, but the rope on this rope art comes off so easily. I'm just taking my scissor joint and I'm just testing all the little nails and I'm not taking the time to unshrink. all the strings the nails will come out with the strings there if you're going to recycle this and go ahead and under the string mine was going to recycle and then it fell into my coffee so I had to recycle my coffee pinnock.

The threads in the trash and these nails are very small, so I can't imagine you could use them for much else, but if you feel like you could use them for something, go ahead and recycle them too, okay? I took a popsicle stick or some piece of wood that I just sent and I'm just polishing out the holes. Basically, I didn't want to sand it because I don't want to take that extra step, but the holes when you pull the nails out sometimes you could get a little wood out, so I took like a popsicle stick and sanded down the holes and removed the string from both signs.

The other thing I wanted to tell you is that if you could see me, I took out the hanging rope that I untied. from opposite sides because I'm going to use it again in the end I'm going to recycle it, so you see, it's very easy, I'm just using it in the slot of my scissor, you know, in the joint of my scissor. I'm just using that to lift up each of the nails and honestly they came out really easily so I've seen a lot of people do this on YouTube. There are many tutorials available. I'm not copying any person, so I won't tell you that I was inspired by this person.
I was inspired by the artwork, but you know, you can always look up other people's tutorials and how they do it with their artwork. I'm also using some of the wood filler from Dollar Tree. I wasn't too crazy about it, it's from Elmer's and should have been good, but I don't know if it was just old at Dollar Tree or I don't know, it just didn't work as well as wood putty that I had used in the past, but the putty from the sustainable world, although we are going to paint, I decided to fill those two holes that I am not going to use in the middle again, you don't do it since you are painting this, you don't have to use filler, you can actually use it like hot glue, just use hot glue, take, get, like an old credit card or a club card, fill it with hot glue and scratch it off real quick and then that. it will work as a hole filler or if you want and you also don't have to do that at all you can leave it that's totally up to you too but I also forgot to mention the instructions that are in the ingredients and ingredients and these supplies we're just going to use a little of Aleene sticky glue.
You can use wood glue if you want to join these two pieces together. I feel like I keep bringing this popsicle stick because I'm actually using this. popsicle stick to line up the spaces of these two boards and I found this with all the boards so these two boards are not exactly the same size but the gaps don't let I guess the slots are all hmm the tops line up and the slots They line up but the bottoms are out, but that to me was objectionable because again, perfectly imperfect is what a farm looks like to me, so what I did was I used a little bit of tape, you don't have to use tape.
You can use masking tape, you can use painter's tape, whatever, and I just used it to help hold the back together while the glue dries. There's no point in taking it off the back because you can leave it on too, so I basically have just took it like a big piece of duct tape on the top of the back and a big piece of duct tape on the bottom of the back and then a little piece going back and forth, but what I did first was I lined them up on the front and through just a little piece of tape down there to keep them from moving when I turn them over and then I taped the back and this is like for provide additional support and also helps the glue dry well and then just remove that tape from the front and we're going to start painting, so I mentioned it a little bit in yesterday's tutorial about the brand name acrylic paint that I had bought .
I was very excited to see it, even though it wasn't a great value. I was excited just to see that they had acrylic paint. It was terrible. I almost left the footage here so you can see it, but I think I might share it on my Instagram. It has terrible coverage. It stank to high heaven. It almost felt like that. It was water paint like that's weird, but it's that acrylic paint right on the front, so I went back and forth to the Apple Barrel. I basically wiped off all that paint, went back to the APRA barrel and you know, brushed it on now the point that The reason I say that is because that other paint was so weird that it filled in the cracks and that's what you want to avoid so What I did was once I cleaned up all that other paint, I took my graphite pencil and I went in and cleaned all the grooves with the tip of the pencil.
This does two things and I will do it again. Not only does it remove the paint but it also darkens with the gray line of the graphite pencil, so you will see when you do that if you use this paint when you brush the gaps, unless you have too much paint on your brush the paint won't go into the cracks , which is the point I was trying to make when telling you about the other lousy painting. so remember you always want to protect your surface so these are the two for a

dollar

cutting mats from Dollar Tree.
I use them for cutting, I use them for gluing, and I use them for painting, so they keep my surface clean. I also use use them to hold the paint as you notice, so you just want to go over this with two coats and again, perfect and perfect, you want to have coverage so you can't see the words, but it doesn't have to be like a complete white solid. white coverage, you just want to make sure that again you can see the brush strokes, this is after a while, it dried a little bit and then I'll come back with the second coat, so the brush strokes are good to see that you don't have to worry about the little holes , don't fill your little holes with paint, which I'm going to like.
I have paint in that hole. Let me take my pencil and clean it up and you can't even see it off camera. I'm so sorry, so come back, try to stay away from the cracks between the boards, and let it dry. I didn't worry about painting the edges because again, if you see something old, if you really like it, I don't do it. I look at antique stores, but like farm stands and stuff, a lot of times the paint drips over the edge and that's what makes it look homemade and that's what to me, you can go ahead and paint the edges if you want that edge. perfect, that's cool, but I'm not interested in that right now, so let me talk a little bit about the decals I chose.
I decided to go with the Dollar Tree stickers, but I wanted to tell you guys that you know there are a lot of tutorials on my channel on how not to say. Many, but there are some tutorials on my channel on how to transfer words so you can print something from the computer. In fact, you can take one of those photos of something inspiring and print it in whatever size you need. actually get the words from the actual inspiration piece if that makes sense you know we use a graphite rub you can use oh my gosh transfer paper any of those techniques will work so we'll hold off on this and let it dry and then we'll come back when it's done. everything dry and here we are, everything is finished, it is dry to the touch.
You want to make sure it's really dry overnight so the adhesive will stick, but if you're going to paint it, it's not 100% necessary, but you definitely want to do it. make sure it's dry and doesn't come off while you're using it, so now I'm going to take that graphite pencil again and I've made the lead very long. This is like a reusable brick mechanical pencil and I just got all the grooves in, blacked out the grooves and wiped off all the extra paint, so I'm going to show you a couple of different adhesive applications that I had, but we've done this before about how to measure and design what you are going to do.
To do so, there were different things I could have done. One of the things I tried to do and I used to have a pair of thin scissors. I don't ask anyone where I can get one. I'm just missing mine among the craft things that I just had some very fine scissors and what I wanted to do was cut the Kling out of the cracks to make it look like it was hand painted over the cracks, but then I realized that, Unless you look very closely, you can't notice it. What I'm trying to say is it's a sticker and I loved this one because it was actually almost like almost the words, it wasn't like the extra plastic around the words it was just a little bit more plastic but it was like just the words and I wanted to center grateful and I wanted to put aside the inspiration piece it just said grateful, so if you wanted to put grateful right there in the middle, that's exactly it, you could stop right there, the inspiration piece actually had silver leaves, and this statement comes with silver leaves, so you can go ahead and do that, but I wanted to go with those other black Viney leaves to basically mimic those leaves, but in black with marker, but I'm trying to show you.
So that's how I took my exact knife, the box cutter, and I tried to cut the space like I was saying and I showed a little bit here on that at the bottom of the L and you could see how close I had to get. I made it so you guys could see the little bit of white on top. It wasn't worth it for me. I just left it, so I wanted to show you what I was trying to achieve, but I think once you leave it, you can do it. I'm not even saying that's what I was trying to achieve, it just seems, it just seems like you can't even tell what it was, don't bother cutting it, that's all I'm trying to say and then I decided to add Part B because thank you It's a state of mind when you put being grateful it's a reminder to have that state of mind and I think there are a lot of people in my family in my world, my life in the world, that need to be reminded. be grateful for all the things you have and not just focus on what you don't have, so I'm taking some creative artistic license here with what I'm doing, which differs from the inspiration piece, but that's what I mentioned.
At the beginning of the first video I show you how you can customize each of these to make your own individual projects because that's what creating art is all about. Okay, it's not just about copying and duplicating, it's about being inspired by others. to make it your own, okay, so I'm going to take it and make it a little bit different. I want to show you what vines look like with open vines and that is also an option sometimes, but for this one I wanted to have them to build vines. In fact, I think a project we're doing tomorrow the next day will have the vineyard open, so you'll be able to see that in other projects as well, but for this one I just wanted to complete them, so this is where the big Sharpie comes in and again , if you were writing something by hand, if you were personalizing this with families, my family member's name or whatever you were doing, then you could go ahead and use your black marker, this is the fat fake black marker from the Dollar Tree to go .
Go ahead and write everything down, once it's dry you can see it's very easy to write on, and then I decided to add the little vine at the bottom just to give it a little bit of balance and an extra touch. and now we're going to put the thread back in so I told you I left a knot on each side of the thread so what we're going to do is go from front to back with the side without knots and we're going to connect these two in the middle and I'll show you how we're going to do it so you can see up close the seam between the two boards, which again is not objectionable to me at all, but what?
What I'm going toWhat to do is gather these threads and tie them right where that seam is because you know that that will be the middle, okay, and it looks like it won't be a very long rope but this rope gives, so we'll knot it and then we'll make a little bow with what's left. and that's it, as you can see, it gives a little bit, but that's it. I hope you really enjoyed this tutorial. Bring some shiplap into your home from Dollar Tree and add some of that farmhouse feel. If you have any questions, please leave them in the comments below.
