DIY| Dollar Tree Easter Reverse Canvas

Jun 02, 2021
Hey guys, for this DIY you were going to need a six by eight inch

canvas

. This one is from Dollar Tree. They have different sizes. It also depends on the paint you have. You can use Apple Barrel P or you can just use chalk paint. I have this. Waverly chalks on ballet flats from Walmart, but use whatever you have on hand. I also have this one, this is a cardstock bunny from Target, but you can use it as a printable, just put it on cardstock because the cardstock is a little thicker than I want. What I have to do is just sit on top of the

canvas

and center it so that when I start working on it it's in the center of the actual canvas and I'll grab my paint.

I just put them on a lid and then I want to remove that excess paint because what I'm trying to do is make it like you dry brush it, but what I want to do is move it out from the actual stencil so that way you don't get a There is a lot of paint underneath and what this does is it also dries very quickly because you don't have a lot of paint and it also gives that worn look because you are not completely painting the canvas, you can see some of the white underneath but it still covers it a little bit now .

I'm just trying to get a little bit of that excess paint off the brush and as you can see I'm moving it out and still trying to hold it in my hand. I didn't tape it down or anything. I did not realize. I just placed it on top. This is the easiest way. I tried to outline the outline of Ain, man, and then it came out white and I painted the outside pink. This is actually it. The easiest or easiest way to do it because you're not actually taping anything together and it still came out great.

I think there was like a little spot where you know I had a little bit of paint on it, but that was my mistake and it was actually like now where by the ear, other than that, it looked really good and you'll see it once I take it off. the bunny in the middle, that's fine, and once I'm done, I'll take it away from you. I can see it's pretty clean and then I have an exact knife and I just go around the back of the canvas and remove the actual canvas, which is actually called a

reverse

canvas and as you can see, you just want to remove this excess canvas. which you have because you will be staining the actual wood piece and this is what will happen once it is dry with the canvas frame.

I just wanted to set it with three

dollar

sandpaper and then this is a wood stain. I'm using the dark walnut I've had this for a long time and I have it on clearance, but I'm taking a foam brush from Dollar Tree and just going all the way around the edges and making sure I cover it completely don't forget. The interior and exterior protect your hands when you use the royal dye. I didn't have gloves so I try to be careful, but other than that I mean you always want to protect your surface once you have the frame. just let it sit overnight to dry, then I'm taking some scissors and as you can see where we painted it gave you the outline so I just want to remove the excess canvas around the frame because we don't need it. and it's just too much, so I'm just going to go around and cut it after I do it.
I want to go ahead and glue the frame to the canvas and this is self explanatory, just make sure you have it straight when you glue it. Now before I do that, I wanted to share this. This is a burlap from Dollar Tree. What I'm going to do is in a rosette. They call it a rosette. I'm trying to make like a fabric rose or this one. It's burlap and this will be the rabbit's tail, but I wanted to show you how I do it. One thing I recommend is that when you do it, you fold it over and then fold it into the other half and then just flip it over. in a little bit like the center of a rosebud and then you'll go around it by twisting the burlap.
I hope this makes sense, it's a little difficult to do with burlap, but what I recommend is that as you turn it, as you turn it, make sure you stick it, that's my mistake. I should have sewn it up, but I had to unravel it and then go ahead and glue it every time I twisted it. I glued it together so I could make my burlap rosette. Okay, so I'll glue the frame around the canvas. This is self explanatory. Just stick it on and make sure it's centered. I didn't get it right, but then I ended up having that excess canvas on the side.
So I think I got a little off track, but I'm going to go ahead and remove it with the exact knife. All you have to do is turn it over and cut the excess canvas off the back of the frame. Too easy. I even took scissors but there wasn't much to remove so I just made the exact knife, I just made sure that part of that part of the frame wasn't showing because then it would look sloppy so I went ahead and cleaned that up and removed the excess of canvas that was around the frame and then if you have twine, there's some from the Dollar Tree.
I just made a little bow and you can make it like a bow tie or you can make it like a girl's bow, so that's what I made. What I'm going to do is use this as a little bow for a little girl. I want it to be a girl so I went ahead and put it next to the ear and then I'm going to glue the fabric or the burlap rosette and this is going to be the tail of the bunny and I'm just adding a lot of glue just make sure you don't add too much, since it's like overkill so I wanted to go ahead and add that in there and that's it.
I hope you liked my DIY, it's very cute and rustic to me and I had fun making this one. I hope you enjoyed it and I hope to bring you more and I'll see you in another one.
