and I really like pretty things, but I don't have the budget for it. Well, there are a lot of us, so I bought the

Everything from

ikea

comes with amazing instructions. I have the instructions here and while I was putting this dresser together I decided I wasn't going to put the bottom on it, so I'm not going to make any legs because I want to put my own legs on. I'm skipping step 12 as well as steps 17 through 23 and that includes everything that needs to go at the bottom to include the legs and you'll see. In a minute, why don't I include legs? I'm going to put some really nice mid-century style legs here. I just want to mention that if you don't follow me on Instagram, make sure you do.

I update my stories daily I'm at Megan Bell Made and let's start this is the dresser fully assembled having skipped steps 12 and 17 to 23 and the other way around you can see the holes here from where the legs should have gone and we're going to be creating new holes for our legs . That being said, there are a lot of pieces that come with this dresser that you won't use because you aren't going to add the legs like this and this and all of these. I bought the legs. and additional leg hardware on Amazon. I'll have everything linked below and I want to place this hardware about an inch and a half from each edge, so I'll go around each side and measure an inch and a half. and I'm marking the five holes that are on the hardware, you always want to choose a drill bit size that's a little smaller than the screw you're using, so that's what I did here.

It's completely fine to drill all the way through if I did it a couple of times, although I tried not to. It's a little hard on wood that's this thin so I'm just going around and pre-drilling all those smaller screw holes and those are just the four outer ones and so I had to change the size of my drill bit for that hole. center because the legs have a larger thread size. Now that all my holes are pre-drilled, I can attach all the hardware and screw on the legs. If you want to make sure that it ends up with the legs facing out towards the side of the dresser, and that will give it that really quite mid-century leaning modern look.
Now it's time to paint, so I'm putting down a cloth to make sure it doesn't. There's paint everywhere and I'm turning the dresser right side up and what I'm going to use is this Ben sensor shellac based primer. This is very important to make sure you are using the shellac base and will help with coverage. To remove these knots, I'm just going to spray the knots on this because I'm painting it a dark color. If I were to paint this dresser white or any shade that's a little lighter, I would make sure to paint everything and probably use the can, you know, and paint it with a brush, but since I'm painting it so dark I just want to cover the knots, Now I'm just going to use the spray paint version.
I don't normally use latex paint. furniture but I have these leftovers from my previous project in the master bathroom of my previous house and I love this color so much that I decided I was going to use it just because it is unfinished wood that I will paint if it were a dresser I was already like refinish or paint over a finish . I wouldn't use this paint, but it's vintage Benjamin Moore fashion. It is a very, very beautiful dark green. I love it and I'm also going to seal it with some polyethylene once. I finished painting and you can also notice that I am applying it with a brush.
I feel comfortable brushing my paint in most settings. However, if you're worried about brush strokes, I would definitely apply your paint with a roller. I prefer to brush mine. of time but this would be a perfect project because there aren't many nooks and crannies to be able to spread it out and it would also save you a lot of time here I am applying my second coat, two coats was the perfect amount for this paint because this paint has a flat finish , I'm going to seal it with some clear satin water based polyurethane, so I've already assembled all my drawers according to the IKEA instructions and I'm going to be filling these holes in the front that were for the knobs, just I'm going to use some plastic wood and the natural color.
I'm going to fill the little holes, sand them after it dries and do that with all of them. six drawers. I'm going to attach some

cane

straps and some trim to the front of the drawer, so I'm just measuring around the perimeter of the drawer front an inch and a quarter, which is the width of my trim to make sure that when I attach the straps of my stick is below the edge. I have a few places where I like to buy my

cane

straps. Below I will list the measurements I came up with for my cane straps: 27.5 inches by 7 inches.
That seems like the perfect size to fit under my ornament and I'm trying to be as minimal as possible with this because I don't like to waste materials like these. What I'm doing is I'm cutting it, which is a pair of scissors and I'm filling my sink with room temperature water which shouldn't be too warm and I'm going to let it soak for about 20 minutes and then I take it out of the The water shook it up a little to remove excess water, but I'm applying this whip while it's wet. I just need to trim this extra edge that I forgot to trim.
I want to make sure it's centered in the middle. the drawer and I'm just using a craft stapler. You can use a staple gun if you want. I just have a regular craft stapler that I'm using with light staples. Works great for this project I'm going to start on. from the center I'm going to work all the way to the edges, the staples don't need to be butted against each other, they don't need to be perfect because I'm going to use wood glue to attach the trim which will also help hold the cane tape in place on the molding I'm using that I bought at Home Depot.
I'll have the exact type linked below. I went ahead and cut it all out with my miter saw making sure to miter the edges. I have 12 pieces cut at 29.5 inches and 12 pieces cut at 8 and 7 8 inches. I'm applying the trim using wood glue and here in the video you'll see, I applied it to the front of the drawer, but then in the project I found out that it worked better if I actually applied the wood glue to the back of the molding, so I suggest I strongly recommend that you use some clamps to hold the molding in place.
I made sure it was nice and flush. By the way, the rim and I let it sit for 20 minutes after 20 minutes had passed. I went ahead and removed the clamps and applied the other side to the same thing. We have 20 minutes to dry and since I only have two clamps, I went. I went ahead and made my outer edges with one clamp each, so I was able to remove them at the same time. Now that everything is dry, I'm going to go ahead and apply some plastic wood putty in the places. where the moldings meet so everything is nice and flush and pretty when it's finished while I wait for it to dry.
I'm going to go ahead and install my drawer groups. I bought them on Amazon. I love them. I was worried. Since I only have one set of drawers and need two, I'm here to tell you that I've been using the drawer now that I'm editing this for about a week and it doesn't need two. One is perfect and measures from one side more than fourteen. and three quarters of an inch is exactly the center of that knob, so I'm going to drill it through that piece of molding because I want my knob to be at the top of the drawer.
My wood filler has been drying for about 30 minutes, so I'm going to go in and sand all my edges with some extra fine sandpaper and get it nice and smooth. You are going to repeat this for each drawer until you have completed them all. Thanks so much for looking. Please make sure to subscribe to my channel and we'll see you next time.
