DIY BOHO ROOM DECOR on a budget // Bedroom Makeover (PART 1)

Jun 09, 2021
Hello guys, welcome back to my channel. I'm so excited. My friend Denise has been talking about and wanting a

makeover

of her

room

since I've known her for eight years. She felt that her

room

was never a place where she wanted to spend much time. At that time, your mood can be drastically affected by the space you are in, so if you spend a lot of time in a room that you don't like, that isn't your style, or that doesn't inspire you, especially if you are creative. person, you won't be very motivated to do anything, so she's been wanting it for a long time, so we've been talking about it seriously for the last three weeks or a month and it's finally here, we've been working.

I put so much effort into it that I can't wait to show you everything we've done in this two-

part

series, so just like I did with my

bedroom

makeover

last month, and if you haven't seen them, I'll link them so you You can, for your

bedroom

makeover, we are doing bohemian-inspired

decor

ation, design and aesthetics. We tried to keep the entire bedroom makeover and all the DIYs we were doing on a major

budget

, so you'll see at the end of Each of these DIYs cost, I calculated how much each one of them was in terms of supplies, everything what we needed to do the DIYs and you'll see that nothing cost more than forty-seven dollars to make so cool, so this is the first

part

of In a two-part series in this video, I'm going to show you all the DIY projects as scale the ones we worked on and then in part two of this series you'll see the complete transformation of their bedroom before and after what we saved. we got rid of the design process, mood boards, inspiration, painting everything, literally everything, so let's get into these DIYs, so the first DIY we're going to do in this room is inspired by a bohemian style rope ottoman.

More Interesting Facts About,

diy boho room decor on a budget bedroom makeover part 1...

Some of these inspiration images I found. I had these rope ottomans that they stacked or used as side tables or just floor ottomans, so they're really versatile. We can definitely make them for less money than buying them at the store, so I went to a local tire store or even bought my tires for my car and I just made a face and said "you know I'm doing a project for my backyard" and I just need some tires that you are going to throw away, do you have any that you are going to recycle soon? and he said, yeah, yeah, sure, see, we're recycling them today, so it makes me feel better that two of them aren't going where they're being sent.

I picked up two tires of the same size because I actually want to stack them on top. one from the other and then we'll use this half inch thick Cecil rope and each of them is 50 feet so I don't know how to do the math on this whole situation and determine how much we really need. I will let you know exactly how much you need for this specific tire size after I make it and then you will also need another form of nylon rope. The first thing I did was clean the tires. Now we're ready to wrap our clothesline around the tire, so we'll take the clothesline and wrap it around the side of one side of the tire and tie a tight knot going towards the center so it's a little bit hidden and we'll cross the rope to the other side . really tight and just keep Criss crossing until we have a really sturdy platform to put a rope on and the top is really sturdy and the knots are really good to finish it off.

Next, we'll use our Cecil rope in half an inch. thick and a hot glue gun, we're going to start from the center and basically wrap the rope around itself around the top and then the sides of our tire, so I'm going to start by hot gluing the rope to itself to start the spiral before I put it on the rim because I think it will be easier and then I hot glue it right in the center as you go, you won't just be gluing the rope to the white rope. that we have here, but also the rope itself so it's doubly secure, so when you get to the end of the first rope bolt, we're just going to hot glue it as flat as we can and then we'll glue the new rope pin on. right next to it, just attaching it, if you find it difficult to find the center of your tire to start the cord in the center, you can always start the cord at the bottom of your tire and work your way up to match. in the center perfectly fine, so it took me about an hour and a half to put all the rope on and it took twice the amount of rope I thought I was going to use, so for a 22 inch tire you need four bolts of that rope. each was 50 feet, so you'll need 200 feet.
I think so the next DIY I wanted to work on for this room was some sort of large scale wall hanging, but I had this vision in my mind of a wall. hang what I want to do that I've actually never seen before, these are some of the inspiration images I found to show Denise what I wanted to do for the room, use a lot of bright colors and I really wanted to keep this bohemian style. style, so I wanted to use a lot of neutral tones of shredded knit fabric to create a lot of texture and movement in this wahi, so it's going to be new for both of us and for the supplies that we're going to need for this particular one. project, so I went to the Fashion Institute in downtown Los Angeles for college and I remember we had a scholarship store on campus that was open to the public and we would buy some off-white knit fabrics for $1 a yard, which is a total steal, so we bought eight yards of knitting at the scholarship store and then Kinsley and I headed to Lowe's to buy the wood pieces for this project, so what you're going to need is a piece of wood five foot long plywood, two smaller pieces and then two. three-quarter inch wood dowels 58 and a half inches long a little wood stain I'm using a special walnut color that I love knit fabric.
I have eight yards and some tan fabric dye that I bought from Joanne's, so first we're going to start staining all of the wood pieces so they dry really well, so using the special walnut wood stain, I'm just going to use a paper towel and I'll follow the grain so you can see the lines in the wood. We will simply wipe the stain over all the wood and let it dry very well. Next, we will assemble the top and bracket of our wall hanging tapestry, so the two four-inch side blocks will become our side pieces and we will screw the pegs to those side pieces using my favorite screws that You actually need a special drill bit and then using a drill, we'll first drill all the way to the back of this piece of wood so that the little tip is sticking out and then we'll finish screwing the dowels into the side pieces on both sides.
Next, we're going to lay out our knit fabric and start cutting strips of fabric basically, so I'm going to make each of these strips 65 inches long. and I can always cut out later, so I just fold the fabric to make it easier to cut and then I just cut strips and strips in different widths so there's a lot of variety in the widths, you can see I have. Basically four different sizes of fabric and then I'm going to take them and separate them into four piles mixing the different sizes together so we can start dyeing so what we're going to use to dye our fabric is a three gallon bucket of hot water. you're going to wet your entire first pile of fabric, your die, a quarter cup of salt, a little bit of stirring.
I'm just using these wooden stirrers and some gloves, so taking our die, we're going to pour half of the bottle into our hot water and I just looked at it and then we're going to pour in our salt and mix it all together. It's pretty hot, so don't burn yourself below. We will spread our fabric that is already pre-moistened. The first batch of fabric will not stay. there for a long time, we'll just put it all in, shake it up and then take it out, drain it and then put it back in our bowl. This is our lightest color from the die for our next batch of dye that we are going to use.
Leaving it for five minutes so that it is the same dye that we used before. We will leave it a little longer so that it darkens a little. After it gets to five minutes, we'll just do the same process. Get it out. Drain it and I really like this color. In fact, drain it and put it back in our bowl and hang it to dry to get our final color. I'm going to add a little more dye just because I feel like I took too much. of it helps stir it up and then leave this batch of fabric there for 15 minutes or more until you get the desired color and here are our final colors.
We left a pile of natural knit fabric, since it was this kind of light caramel color. a little bit of a café au lait color and then a dark cocoa color, which I love the variation. I wish the middle one was a little darker, but I think it's fine. Now it's time to start putting together our tapestry, so we'll grab our wooden dowel. structure that we build and then taking the shorter end of the fabric, we're going to hot glue them in different ways in all different combinations, placed really randomly in terms of color to our wooden dowel, so the idea is to use the pieces larger pieces of fabric the wider pieces on the back bar and then the thinner pieces of fabric on the front, that way it creates a lot of dimension and creates a really solid sheet of fabric.
I found that it will actually be easier for me to hang this wall. hang to finish gluing everything together so I'm just using these keyhole clips that I bought from Lowe's and I screw them into the back of the four inch wide bracket that we created and they use the same screws from before that I love. I'm going to screw them to the wall and hang them. I put the screw in the wrong place. I measure from the wrong place, so measure right. The children measure right now. I have to correct my mistake and rehang this piece and I can continue warming up. glue all the pieces to the bars at random.
I didn't have any real math behind this plan, just where I thought the color should be or had to be darker in some places or lighter in some places, I just kept hot gluing and until I had everything I needed, this tapestry of wall hanging took about 50 pieces of fabric, so we have 50 strands total in this wall tapestry, after all the fabric is hot glued to our rods, there are pegs, let's attach the finish. touches the frame, so our largest piece of wood that we have, which is five feet long, we're going to hammer it right on top of those four inch wide pieces, so I placed it right on top and we hammered it so that one of For the DIY for this room, we definitely wanted to make a dresser, risking it being very expensive if you buy it new, so we decided to take a look at some of the thrift stores in Los Angeles and find one that had a great price and a decent price. shape that we can do better and more similar to our inspiration, very bohemian and raw, and we found this dresser, now we know it's IKEA or something, but it was still in pretty good shape, but it was the perfect size for the room and when we already we're done, yeah, that's how it's so good, so we're going to set it aside and put this special walnut stain on it, you know I love this color stain.
I used it in my bedroom makeover for my We're also going to paint all the knobs gold and you'll see the vibe we have in the room in the second part of this series, so I'm going to start taking out all these drawers and sanding them. so William previously owned this dresser, which are such nice memories, so on the knobs on these dressers we're going to spray paint them in this satin bronze to match other things that we're doing in the room that has this dresser. It's been a labor of love, they've spent three days sanding this other gray color, but Denise has been working tirelessly on this dresser.
It's crazy but we're always there so we've decided that all our hard work isn't in vain and it looks really pretty so I hope you enjoyed these large scale bohemian inspired room
