DIY: At Home Soft Long Layer Haircut

May 31, 2021
Today's video will be about how to cut your own hair. So it will be pretty basic. Nothing too crazy. I'll keep it where, as if almost anyone could do it. So the other thing is that I'm going to cut my hair. I would always recommend cutting wet hair. I feel like you get cleaner lines and a better

haircut

all around. But to keep things smoother and if maybe it's your first time I would recommend dry because when you do it dry you can see every mistake that you've made and when it's wet of course you can also see the mistakes but when you dry blow-drying your hair will look different than when it is wet.

So if you're doing it dry, you can already automatically see what it's going to look like. Then you cut a little bit or see that there's a line and say, "Oh, that's not supposed to be there," then it's a lot easier to fix. Well, the first step is to always start with clean quadrants. So, first you part the hair in half in the front and then in the back. So we have the whole left side and the whole right side and then the other one, you find the back of the ear going up, so I mean, I'm just feeling, you know.

More Interesting Facts About,

diy at home soft long layer haircut...

You know your head, so go down and separate that one and that's your other section. So this, just cut it out and then we'll start on the next two sections. So the first step we have to determine is: do you want to cross? If you want a more rounded designed line, you take that section of hair and you angle it up, up, towards the face and then when the hair comes back and meets the other hair, then you have that base and that will be your point of lower view. So I figured out as much as possible that way and I like spot cutting, you just get smoother lines, so you have to visualize.

Let's say you want to get rid of that much length, so go up that high. Then when you can see where something looks irregular. You can cross slightly upwards. Don't limit yourself to cutting it completely straight and always maintaining an angle with the scissors. We aim slightly and cut it again a little. So just stay very smooth and then drop it and you can see if it's smooth or if there's a point that means more, so come back here, if there's something that needs a little bit smoother transition. Now, I've already done that, so we set our length.

Now I'm hitting this front section and angled it at the angle that already exists. Just clean up some of the edges and now, just drop it. So you see, they are more or less my grown out bangs. Now it matches the rest of the hair. So if that's what you want, that's fine. I think I want a little more separation, but we'll get to that later for the bangs. So now, you grab that hair where the two sections meet, where they join together. So get down and grab. So make sure they meet. Mine fit pretty well, but it's always best to be sure.
Okay, we're done with the first section. So now we do the same thing on the right side, obviously. Okay, once you're done, set a length on both sides, angle it, and make sure it's pretty smooth. Now let's start with the

layer

s. Okay, let me... I'm cutting out the front section. So now I'm going to... I'm going to set the length of my shorter

layer

s in the back. I want my forehead to be

long

er and then I'll just cut things off. So what you do with this is you take it to a pretty high point, as you can see.
So you see my layer getting shorter and then getting jagged and broken? So if you want more of a transition, where you want shorter layers and then kind of grading into a

long

er base or if you just want long layers and a smooth transition, then you would bring it in here, if you want a

soft

er transition and long layers. If you want shorter layers, then you go up. So I want a pretty smooth transition, so I'm going to take it to the side and just clean it up and get rid of some split ends, so it doesn't lose too much length.
I'm just going to cross. Just clean up all those split ends. It can be a little complicated to cut your hair and look in the mirror because everything is backwards, obviously, but it's only difficult the first time and then you get used to it. So I'm just going to cut points again, so you don't have any blunt lines. Well, you can leave that and you will see that there are no strange, jagged or straight lines. Just kind of a smooth transition. Okay, yeah, let's do the same thing with the front. So the front is a little different than mine because my bangs, like I said, match.
So depending, if you want it to be shorter in the front, you can go higher and a little bit shorter. Again, I'm just going to get rid of those split ends and then I'm going to cut them off. Then, to the side, you can see if they're all lined up. Actually, lower it and you can see that you're starting to look healthier because you're getting rid of all that damage. Okay and then again, like we did on that first base cut. I'm grabbing a piece of both sections of the front and back section over and over again, holding it together and you're just trying to make sure they mirror each other so the front isn't longer or similar. .
So, it looks good, but just clean it up a little. Because you don't want to have a weird point here, like weight here because the back is cut really well and the front and then that weird transition is a little heavy. So just to balance everything out. Okay, and then again, same thing for the other side. To save time, I'll only show you one side because it's obviously the same thing. So what can you do too? You can start doing this first before doing it. For layers, this could be your first step to set the length and then just go with it.
To the side, I'd like to do it that way first and then just lift these two up and make sure they're lined up because we cut this from here and then on the back from here. So just to make sure they line up. It look very nice. So again, just cut a little bit more and drop it and we'll be done with the layers. Now what I'm going to show you is the bangs and maybe some of you just want a cut of bangs and leave the rest for a hairstylist who is also great. Bangs are quite a difficult thing to follow.
Especially, if they are too short or have small strands, they just blend in with the rest of my hair, but the first thing you need to do when making bangs is determine how thick you want and how much hair you want in the bangs. So if you want fairly fine hair, you'll have about the amount of hair you need. I like mine pretty thick, so I'll back off about an inch. So, and then... just come out straight at an angle. Kind of like, imagine like the tip of your eyebrow, kind of angled down toward that. I would start lifting them up and cutting off, say, an inch or whatever you're trying to do, I'm not going to do that, I'm going to do about a quarter of an inch straight because the fact that you're bringing it up, when you bring it down, You will never have a straight line because you are directing the hair too much in a different direction than it should naturally sit.
Look, there's no crazy starting line. Well. I hope you try this and that it isn't too difficult. I hope you enjoyed it and you know, I guess we'll see you next time. Bye bye!
