Dan Schneider and the Downfall of Nickelodeon

Mar 31, 2024
I think it's safe to say this hasn't been a great week for Nickelodeon with the release of the silent robots documentary on set or you know you just saw it all on Twitter with funny Trick and Josh moments looping at the bottom. I don't think so, it exposed a lot of people to the horrible reality that is child stardom, delving mainly into the career of Dan Schneider, a figure I've talked about on this channel before. I love focusing much more on his creations than on the man. itself, for obvious reasons, is an eye-opening exposé on the world of Nickelodeon of the '90s and '00s.

I've never been one of those people who argued that you couldn't separate the art from the artist, but it's hard not to admit that while watching it. It made me seriously reconsider how I felt about some of my favorite shows growing up and while this is mostly stuff we've been hearing for years, especially in relation to Dan Schneider, whose name has been a worse punching bag for almost a decade . I think this is the first large-scale publication of something like this published in a format that people are obsessed with right now, which has resulted in this resurgence of people hearing about this for the first time and asking that the man be imprisoned.

dan schneider and the downfall of nickelodeon...

What you hear, man, if John K wasn't sent to prison and there's no way, Danwell, the most you can do is keep him as far away from Children's Entertainment as possible because they really go into a lot of stuff here about his creepy overprotective nature. its cast treated them as if they were adults and not in such formative years of their lives, although I have to wonder why the documentary never called attention to those strange labels it would have at the end of its episodes to make them sign. as if the children were saying something provocative.

I heard you swallow sometimes. I do it to myself. I don't want to get a black ball. How bad did you want this when you were a kid? I just thought it was fun. They were saying random words and all this went down. Thinking past the accusations and really big events that occurred as a result of their mismanagement, isn't it just weird in general to think about how irrelevant Nickelodeon has become in the last decade, in the '90s and '00s? They were inevitable. It was weird. if a kid wasn't watching Nickelodeon, I'd be so upset to go to Frize and something that doesn't have cable, where's SpongeBob SquarePants?

However, anyway, if a kid said they still watch the channel regularly, my only response would be: what's wrong? are you watching baby spongebob live linoln L what are you stupid for even taking a quick look at my channel? It's pretty evident that a lot of the programming Nickelodeon has produced over the years means a lot to me, it's one of the only things I find the ability to feel nostalgic for, and in some ways it's sad to see the company responsible for creating some of the most influential material for me as a child only remains today a mere shell of its former self, nothing more than an uncomfortable topic.
So today I wanted to spend some time talking about that, not only why I think the company has gone from a giant in children's entertainment to something I wouldn't want within 10 feet of my child, but also I want to highlight why it had such a strangled hold on so many kids at one point and with that let's talk about the fall of Nickelodeon, but first speaking of tonal shifts, this video is sponsored by War Thunder War War Thunder is a radical free show. -Play a multiplayer action game where you can use vehicles, planes and even Nal boats to fight in dynamic battles and locations around the world.
Sadly, it's not your local outfit, although it's available for PC, Xbox, PlayStation and perfectly captures the scope and feel of fierce military battles. all iconic and even lesser-known gear from the mid-20th century to the present. If you're a fan of this stuff, you'll be amazed at how detailed each element is, both visually and gameplay-for example, there's no health. instead, the attack bars have an effect on the enemy, such as disabling their tracking, immobilizing them, or hitting their fuel type, which will cause them to power up. With the recent Alpha Strike update, not only was a new map added in North Holland, but many more were also added. of new equipment and significantly improved visual effects, so why not download War Thunder for free today using my link in the description?
All new players are at least those we haven't played in the last year and a half. We receive some special bonuses as rentals. for the P40 E1 plane and the M4 tank a special Eagle of Valor decorator 100,000 silver lions three premium vehicles a week from premium account and even more gifts if possible but hurry because it will end soon and thanks to War Thunder for sponsoring this video obviously the Nick's decline is the result of many factors, the company has become increasingly less culturally relevant for much longer than when the whole Schneider business came to light, the main reasoning obviously being the fact that children are much more interested in watching shows on their phones and iPads instead of TVs, even Nickelodeon shows with reloads get millions of views, but of course that doesn't help, it doesn't help the main problem, which is that the network suffers keyable, it's just not that popular anymore, most people choose to cancel layers in favor of subscribing to a couple of streaming services and unfortunately, idiot, Nickelodeon is on paramite plus it's a terrible app, it has a horrible interface, it barely there's nothing to see and overall it works horribly.
I've been trying to look through Denny Phantom in there for the first time in the last two weeks and it really opened my eyes to how terrible that service is. It's always buffered and it's not a problem I have with Netflix or Mac, so I have to assume there just isn't enough. Money is put into the servers, so when you watch shows or even just browse menus you constantly encounter a lag, it's abysmal, but why should I invest more money? Their subscriber base is already well below the competition despite having been around for a while. A couple of years at this point, the charmingly unimportant crossover commercials are helping the fact that pyr mind plus just doesn't have much to offer and it seems like Viacom has realized this too because when I checked Netflix recently I started to notice of that way.
More Nickelodeon shows have started appearing. Fairly Odd Parents, Rugrats, Drake and Josh, many popular series are not all available to watch on a streaming service that is not owned by Nick's parent company and I think that is incredibly telling the only things about Nickelodeon. is paramont plus worth getting plus. because really, what does Nickelodeon have now bad reboots of their most successful shows, from their main spin-offs to said hit shows or the occasional new cartoon that only manages to last a season or two as all the wind is taken out of it? ? gets sealed in favor of promoting spongebob cartoons in cm3 spongebob list rugrats fairy oddparents that's all there is on

nickelodeon

n on a rock paper scissors cartoon level on the surface level it seems like a horrible idea, but watching clips of it, it actually manages to be pretty funny, that doesn't even matter because I'm sure half of you watching this are thinking what rock, paper, scissors is.
I guess it's important to highlight why I think Nickelodeon was such a triumphant force in children's entertainment in the first place, I guess. to directly contrast where they are now and how they got lost and for me at least it came down to three million factors. one, the lack of competition when it came to animation focused keable channels, there were the big three Cartoon Network, Disney Channel and Nickelodeon with Nick being an incredibly fortunate position, when it premiered it only had to really compete with Disney Channel and with them advertising and making their whole personality something new, different and edgy, it gave them the perfect opportunity to attract the attention of kids, especially once they started their own original programming, there was something so cool about Nick that it almost made its competitors seem more Li in comparison, why watch Mickey Mouse when you could watch Ren and Stimpy?
It reminds me a lot of the Sega versus Nintendo stuff that was happening at the same time. At the same time, for me personally, I was glued to Nickelodeon 95% of the time as a kid, the only Disney cartoons I was interested in were Phine and Ferb and I kept confusing Cartoon Network's use with Boomerang and assumed it only played Li's senior programs. and that's why Nick kept my full attention. Two Nickolodeon was fun, they prided themselves on being a kids network made by kids, of course that wasn't true, but it's the image they successfully conveyed to their viewers by showing kids the things they wanted to see, mostly by focusing. about scream and things more related to them, not only through their programming, but the network as a whole had a very fun vibe, the unique bumpers and ads that nick.com and the magazine had that made Nickelodeon something that could go ahead and do it. now, of course, a party every day, of course, a big focus of this was for money-making purposes, making sure that their son always had another opportunity to support the company, but they did.
Eng, unfortunately, the magazine industry is something that has also suffered from the rise of the Internet and along with that, people have become much more accustomed to getting entertainment from the same three or four social media websites. I can't imagine many children dying in the current nick.com, there are many things out of their control and it's a shame, but unfortunately this third factor was mainly the result of Po's management. Three Nickelodeon had good shows in many cases, but the simple truth is that Nickelodeon used to keep up with a steady stream of quality cartoons that usually released two or three. new series every year, not all of them were hits, but at a certain point they were released at such a pace that there was always something to look forward to and at least once in a while, when they released a part of you, at least I was confident that there is a show that you want to see there, you know if my options were to spend half an hour of mediocrity to get to the things I wanted to see or I don't know, kick a ball outside and then sign up. for Fanboy and chumchum come on, I'll get over it this time 20 years ago, Nickelodeon was preparing to launch Danny Phantom, one of its most iconic series of all time, and the character is still fondly remembered to this day, so much so that was recently continued in graphic novel form, what is Nick putting into AR this year?
Well, again, rock, paper, scissors, a show that again seems to be doing well, but I think it's safe to say that it won't be as well remembered as the stuff they used to do. Play it and let me tell you something about Nickelodeon and I won't let them censor it and a big part of that is in their marketing. If a show doesn't become an immediate hit like SpongeBob SquarePants or on the list, then it won't apply. More than two seasons, apart from those two, all the original cartoons currently airing on the channel are only in their first season and the rest are nothing more than toys like Transformers Earth Spark or Monster High or spin-offs and reboots of shit like Rugrats or Temp.
Choral material designed for the sole purpose of keeping a franchise relevant was something new and exciting, so it doesn't seem like they've been putting all their attention on the same two shows for the last decade, which is fine with them and there is big KN seems fun but it's Pony middl, most of the cartoons after the rise of the Ninja Turtles were when I finally wanted to see them, they were gone, it's a tired opinion, but actually SpongeBob got too big to feel, It seems like most of the time the higher ups only put these other shows into production to assure their investors that they are more than just the SpongeBob SquarePants Channel, oh but that's ignoring all of their fantastic live action programming currently airing like the real Li High Tyler Perry, young Dylan Aaron and Aaron these. only X have to join in.
Why does every children's comedy have to be about music? Besides, that's all. I just named you every series that's currently airing and I only knew of one of them that existed before 5 seconds ago when I searched for this on another Beyond that, we're quickly approaching the horrible concept that is the 2010 era of nostalgia. I mean, we just got the incredible return to the hit 2013 series, The Thunderman's Kill Me. Something I've been talking a lot about with my friends.recently it's the The idea of suffering for art like Dan Schneider is obviously a pretty terrible human being, but let's face it, he made some good shows, not just for kids.
My grandmother watched Carly, Drake and Josh with us and she kept up with the plot points. Something about her humor and comedic style that she just drew people in at least in a way that didn't seem like she was talking to the audience about her. Does the fact that these shows are so iconic and well-remembered justify me not even going? To entertain that thought, the world could have survived without The Amanda Show if it meant these kids didn't have to be emotionally abused on set. My thought process always comes to the fact that these people talk about Dan's work while ignoring what he was producing before. be fired in the nicest way possible I wish YouTube would give me a 7 million dollar check when I decide to stop uploading animated Henry Danger game shakers Henry Danger I grew up watching Amanda Show Drake and Josh I Carly Victorious, even Sam and Cat, during the brief time it aired.
I realized when it aired. He wasn't interested, he lost the touch of it. I also don't find it a coincidence that Nickelodeon only decided to get rid of the man when it stopped giving them hit shows, but getting back to the topic of Dan decided not to talk about Dy with his audience. I really think that's the main factor in why his shows were so popular, but also in what he did. It really hit Nickelodeon hard and they lost sight of their growing Target demographic this year. It seemed like Nick and Disney Channel were always having a fight with each other to see who could produce the most popular comedy and, more importantly, who. might appeal more to the terrifying demographic that is Twin Nick's complete rebranding in 2010 to remove all the fun and charm of the presentation in favor of something more stylish and attractive, with the vice president at the time stating that it would highlight a new focus for the chain and it is no secret what that new Focus was.
Disney had struck gold with Hannah Montana and with that Dan finally tried his luck with his own comedy-singing teenage girl, literally every kiddie comedy Under the Sun at the time tried to make her character a singer even though she had no basis in the preset Wizards Sunny With a Chance, even I Carly for a while after Hannah Montana, however it seemed like Disney had lost the marathon, none of their comedies reached Dan's success, aside from possibly Wizards and maybe Sweet Life on Deck, but I'd say it was a huge dong compared to the original, they still had hit shows, don't get me wrong.
I remember Austin and Ally stuck around for a while, but it definitely seems like Nickelodeon's attempts stuck more with kids, and ironically I think that's because of the adult nature of it. The twins are in that awkward stage where they want to look older, they don't want to be seen watching SpongeBob SquarePants, but they also still watch Nickelodeon, so Dan had creepily perfected the art. By pushing the boundaries of what was acceptable to children just enough to appeal to them, he made Victorious and Samm and Cat especially seem much older and more mature compared to the average children's comedy.
Sam and Cat literally had a Breaking Bad parody and got Outside of that, why, because Dan could do whatever he wanted, would they really question him? Nickelodeon loved the man, but as a result of that temporary success that couldn't be replicated after the man clearly ran out of steam, what was Nick left with? their tween audience has been alienated because they don't want to watch a show about four annoying kids who become millionaires by creating projared's new favorite app and the kids who just want to watch cartoons don't want to see the staff in live action with a majority of Nick's animated material moved to the much less popular Nick Tunes Network.
They trusted Dan Schnider so much that once they were in a position to let him go, they had nothing left except Spongebob Squarepants and linking LOD, so here we are. Nickelodeon has never been more relevant as an entertainment company Disney Channel, at least it still creates cartoons that people are interested in watching and that they at least bother to promote, and Cartoon Network well, let's look at the history of Cartoon Network for another day , but they have made a good reputation. Reputational damage and I'm not really sure how they can fix it other than a complete restructuring, but maybe that will come sooner than we think.
Last year, Nickelodeon changed their name to reintroduce the colors and abstract shapes that were once iconic to them, it certainly looks a lot better. that this and who knows if this is due to a genuine attempt to showcase them by refocusing the focus on what made them so successful in the first place or maybe it's just an attempt to cash in on nostalgia, but for their own good, I certainly hope it's the former because I love Nickelodeon, it's something incredibly important to me. I will never forget going to my great-grandmother's house after school and doing my homework while watching Fairly Odd Parents get so excited about the upcoming summer as they broadcast the school musical or stay up late into the night. with my sisters laughing at reruns of The Amanda Show and dck and Josh watching the Kids Choice Awards every year and being blown away by how they integrated and interconnected their animated series with live action, at one point Nickelodeon made me happy and I hope you can continue. make kids happy in the future, but I guess only time will tell, subscribe if you want.
Now I'm depressed.
