Daisy Petal Flower Wreath Tutorial/Deco Mesh Flower Wreath [*Full Version*]

Apr 18, 2024
Hi everyone, I'm Jen from Jay Cats Creations and today I'm going to show you the

full

tutorial

on how to make the Daisy Petal Wreath. The first video I made about this

wreath

was actually the first video I made. He had no idea what he was doing he was quite nervous and he actually had just finished making this

wreath

. I didn't realize it was going to get as much attention as it did when I first made it and I had so many questions that so many people wanted. To find out how to do it, I just put together a pretty basic video about what I had made, but at this point I have an order for this wreath and I figured with spring coming, now is a good time to finally sit down. and finish the

full

length, so I appreciate you guys being patient with me waiting for this.

I usually tend to get things done, but you know, sometimes it takes me a little while, so here we are and I'll show you. you all I make, so first off, let's look at what I use to make this: It's a 10 inch box wire frame, like I usually use for all my wreaths. I use a lot of pipe cleaners for this one. In fact, I do. I cut mine in half. I don't need them in all the wind so I definitely cut them in half with a rotary cutter and at most a good pair of scissors may not be as good but if you have a really sharp pair this would be a great project. to take them out and then the colors that I used on this particular wreath are yellow, this is not foil for straight

deco

rative

mesh

, there is no foil on this one, I used C, this is white with iridescent foil as the color, I use lavender and that's with foil and then purple with foil so I mean for all the

petal

s that you're going to make I would recommend getting the 21 inch rulers you can cut them you would cut it ten inches and then you would turn it to one side and you would cut it.

More Interesting Facts About,

I split it in half so it would be ten and a half inches as there is a lot of waste on this project once you see when I make the

petal

s and you have to cut the tails off of them so I would definitely recommend getting the 21 inch and also a Once everything is folded, you'll know, there's no fraying issue to worry about on this project, so you know it's a little more cost effective to use the 21 inch rulers, you can get more out of it and you know you're not losing as much. money buying a bunch of 10 inch rolls.

The only thing I will say is that for the leaves of this one I used lavender. I would recommend the 10 inch ones because that is just the normal fold of the petals. and you know if you cut off the 21 inches and try to make petals out of that, you're going to run into a lot more potential fraying issues, so if there's one part of this that I would recommend getting the 10 inch diameter, it would be whatever. color you choose to make the leaves, so okay, let me remove some of these things the way I do with my glue gun.

I've actually done the center in different ways and I haven't really decided how I'm going to do it. do it this time so we can use the glue gun or not. I'll see how I feel when I get to that point, but for now I'm just going to start by showing you how I make them, so if you want, make a double pedal like I do on this wreath. I have the purple and the white together, so you're going to need one of each color, whether you know you use four by ten inches, ten by ten and a half, you're never going to do it. notice that extra half inch when you cut the 21 inch mash so don't worry about it so you'll taste your piece like you normally would, then take the top edge and fold it over to the bottom edge. so you make a nice triangle, it won't always line up perfectly, don't worry, it's no big deal, so for the double, you would take whatever other color you decide to use, place it on top and fold it down.
Also, now you have both pieces in triangles and you just line them up as best you can. This really doesn't require much perfection. You know every edge has to line up perfectly. Fortunately, you know this doesn't really require that. It looks pretty good, so you'll take one side and fold it down to the bottom point and then take the other side and do the same thing to end up with this shape. What I do? I grab it. I hold it. the middle with my thumb and then I go around it with my other hand and wrap it around to hold it, so that's what just creates that petal shape and I usually fix it a little bit if it's a little loose, you know, pull on the inside upwards. push the outside down, you know, whatever I feel like they need to do to tighten it up so it looks like this, then I take the pipe cleaner, I wrap it up and I just want to show you on the back, here you want. to wrap the pipe cleaner very high up, it's because if you don't catch it all there securely once you've wrapped the pipe cleaner and then when we cut it, some of it may start to come loose, so I want to make sure that you're definitely about above this part where you know it starts to come out a little bit there.
My measuring ruler is usually just some sort of thumb. You know, I just put that part in and then wherever it lands is pretty much it. where I have to clean the pipe, definitely give it some good twists as hard as possible, you want to make sure nothing starts coming out, this is what the pedal itself will look like, but you notice you have this big long tail like I said in my first video, however, many months ago, that was at this point. I don't even know, probably about a year. I really couldn't think of any other way at the moment so you don't have this problem like I did. he said in the first video that someone comes up with something you know, let me know, share it, but at this point you end up with a lot of ways to do it if you try to put it in the frame, which is what I'm doing for the first time.
The time I did this was a big mistake, you know, because you know, for example, show yourself quickly if you leave this here and then you have this huge amount sticking out of the back and you imagine you know how to multiply by all the petals. the whole wreath and I mean it's just an incredible mass of something that you can't even do anything with because there's no way to hang it on the wall because it sticks out so much so once I realized it, I realized that it doesn't It was like that. the best way to do it and that's when I started cutting them like I said, I mean as much as I hate doing it, it's really the only way I've found so far to make it work, usually very similar to how I do it .
I just put my thumb on the little pipe cleaner where my thumb ends, which usually lines up with this part right here when it starts, is where I cut it and that usually ends up being about half an inch and the reason for that is why I say sharp scissors, because if you cut both layers this way, which are very thick, my scissors aren't that sharp so I find it a little painful, but if you have very sharp hair it's a good time to throw them away. and then I usually trim it so it's flat and then throw the bead away.
I don't know what else to do with them so yes there is waste, I don't like it so I recommend the larger

mesh

rolls so you know you're obviously not wasting that much money and I already have them made but I just wanted to show you that yes You don't want to do a double, you just want to do it. a single puddle which would be what I just did with a single piece of mesh. Here's what it looks like compared to the double I've made. It is read both ways. You know, they both look good.
I like them. Obviously, you like them. half the work and time when you only make one petal compared to double so keep that in mind if this is the project you decide you want to try so I'll make another one just to show you and when I do it. In fact, yesterday I sat down and did all the petals and one shot that probably took about an hour and a half to do all of them, but I find that they end up being more consistent in their shape and size when I do that which if you know, I do enough to do a ring and then you know I put them all on, then I go back and try to do them again.
I find that my consistency is not always the same and then you know that it feels like you too. I'm over the worst of it and then you can go and put them all together and you know, it makes it feel a little less painful. I guess that's how the triangles fold it down, grab them together, just try to keep them together. As much as you can, fold them down and then wrap them. It's definitely a little awkward at first, but pretty much all you have to do is make one of these and you'll be pro because there are so many of them that you'll definitely get a little bit better and faster and then like I said, you know, pretty much wherever you place my thumb, it usually lines up with, you know, where there are points here, so it's pretty uniform and the reason I'm, you know.
The really unique thing about the half inch is that when you start attaching them to the frame, it pretty much falls right between the rings, and when you attach the rest of the rows, you don't have this hanging down. it goes to the next ring and that makes it much harder to join the next row, so it's basically oriented to fit between the rings, so whatever you want, figure it out when you cut them. whether you use your mat or whether you just use the frame to kind of make an eyeball which, like I said, is where you put your thumb in the middle and where it looks like it lands, you know pretty accurately that half. inches, so for this row, the first outside row, I also attached the blade to the pedal so I wouldn't have a lot of extra bulk.
Once you start putting them in, you don't have much space, so I thought. Figure out how to attach the pedal and the blade and one now, even though it's four rings, we're only going to use three, we're not going to use the outer ring, it's just going to be the three inner rings, I guess. I have a few reasons for that, the first reason was basically that I didn't want to make any more petals and it would probably take at least another hour, hour, hour and a half of work to make enough petals for this outer ring.
Once you start putting them in there with this and we'll leave it attached, you won't have to worry at all about it being loose, you know, because you have this outer ring to support it, so that's also another reason why I mean, yeah you want to, you know, maybe just make petals and come out completely, you can do that. It's up to you, to be honest. I haven't done it just because it takes a long time to do. You know what I have done in all honesty. I mean, just cutting all the mesh is about an hour, making all the petals is probably about another hour and a half and then cutting all the tails was about half an hour, so you know you've already invested in it, so you know.
I really haven't had any desires. I want to make enough to make the outer ring, maybe one of you, but I haven't done it yet, so all I do is take one of the petals and then once again, it's ten by ten. for the leaves I attached and we're just going to do the normal petal fold where you bring the two corners together, gather them in the middle and then wrinkle them to have their little bow tie and this is actually what gave me the idea. to make my single petal

flower

, if you haven't seen it, that's also here on my YouTube channel and you know it was when I was doing this that I got the idea where I said, you know what happens if I make? a whole wreath made of petals like this, that's how that one came about in case you were interested in knowing, so I take it and I have a space here for the pipe cleaner that I put on the petal, I put one end on it and with the top side basically through it and then bring the bottom down make sure you know it lines up nice and then I'll start with a cross bar like I always do and then I just twist and attach both pieces at the same time these will be a little bit curly until you get more and then they start squishing together staying where they're supposed to, so that's the first arm, this is what it looks like from the back.
I just put it together like I normally would and that's all I do for the DeRose rodeo car, you know, the only one that thinks the rest of them are just going to be the pedals by themselves, so just to show you that just the normal way that I fold, I try to figure out if I need to adjust the Bend, I try to get them as level as possible and then like this, I just slide it and then slide it over the top. I'm starting to do it on some of them. I end up with 29 petals and leaves in this ring, summer 30, you know?
It really depends on how they fall together and sometimes they squish a little more than other times, so you know, I've cut 30. I'll see what I end up with once I finish the trail and I'll let you know, at this point, that's all what I'm going to do with the rest of this ring, so I'm going to cut it out, finish it off and then I'll come back and show you what it looks like and then. start with the next ring, okay, I have the first layer on, if you could bear with me for a second, I have it hanging on the wall so you can see the full effect, you know when I have it on my table.
I can't really see it all, so this is what the first layer with leaves looks like. I'm going to zoom in a little bit closer so you can see everything, so I ended up using 30 petals for this first layer, so basically. the 10 inch frame has five crossbars, so you'll have one on each crossbar and then you'll have five in the middle, like I said sometimes, you know, for some reason, I guess maybe. because of the waythat I fold them or whatever, I only end up having 29 in there, either way it's fine, so be patient, I'm going to put you back on the stand and as you could say, it's already gotten pretty big even without using it.
On the outer ring, the finished wreath is still about 26 inches, so that's definitely something to keep in mind as well: if you wanted to use the outer ring, you'll end up with something a little bigger than that, as well. You can see, like I said , the reason you know about half an inch here is because it will fall, you know, right on top of the next ring, in the future, they become a little bit harder to place because you're practically trying to work. between all of them now, but it's just that the petal won't go away, so it's not that bad, so everything I do, I just try to line them up between the petals of the previous ring and I'll just put a few. of these in quick so you guys could see how it starts and it actually wasn't that bad it only took me about 45 minutes to make the first ring once they finished all the reef prep like I said cutting the shreds making the petals and then cut the tails, you know, once you get to this point of putting them all together, it's not too painful anymore, so there are two.
I'll do one more and I said, you know, working in the middle. the ones in the previous row and just so you can see, you know, once you start passing the next roll, yeah, you don't see the pipe cleaner down there, you know, they fall really nice to where you know it's nice and tight, and you know. you can't see anything further down and just to give you an idea, excuse me, this is what the back looks like so far just to give you an idea, like I said, it ends up getting a little tight, but take your time and work with it. all in the middle, so I'm going to do the same thing with the rest of this ring and then I'll come back to show you what it looks like and I'll start in the middle.
Well, now I have the second layer completely on. I finished. Using 25 petals in this row, I know like I said, you try to put them in between each one, but then they start to clump together a little, so I occasionally skip one so they don't end up. they are grouped together too much because I like them all to be basically the same round shape every time, you know sometimes it's 24 25 26, you know there's always a little bit different depending on how the petals go, but on this one it was 25 so I just wanted show you that real quick and then I'll put in some petals for the next ring or the final ring before I do the center.
Then once again, you know, like in this row, try to put them in between as many as possible. If you need to skip one here and one there so they don't crowd together too much, that's fine with this one. Now I have the lavender with the white. The first two were purple with white. Then I choose lavender and white on this one. one and then like I said, you know, that's just trying to get between each one, just getting a little bit more difficult as you go down, it's actually a very tight compact crown when it's done and you end up having to fight through of a lot more pipe cleaners in the back, jump here, try to get it in there, try to move your fingers in there as much as you can and as you can tell, it's not always the easiest thing to do, so if it takes you a little bit, don't do it. you do.
Don't worry about it, just keep working on it, so if they use purple, uh, all the pipe cleaners trying to look back to see what you're doing doesn't help either, so I'm going to do the same. Like I said, I just stick as many as I can in there and just to show it again, it's like you know you're fighting all these pipe cleaners in the back now, so it gets a little bit harder, so I just go. To finish the center ring, I'll show you that and then I'll do the center, okay and I'm back.
Now I have made the third row of lavender petals. I made 14 of those, so like I said before, you just know how to work them in the middle. everyone else just place them there however you want and you know enough so I just give you a little close up of that row and this is what it looks like now so now I'm going to show it to you and like I said at the beginning I wasn't a hundred percent sure how I was going to do it. I've done it in the past, I just hot glued them together and that actually works great because it's tight in the middle, you can actually hot glue them together. everything is there and it's really safe, they don't go anywhere.
I haven't had any problems. I also ran pipe cleaners through the back and put the pedals on them, but this time I wanted to try the plastic rack so I did. I did that before I came back so the grid worked pretty well so I just wanted to give you a quick rundown of how I did this once I put it together and it actually worked. I really didn't want to take it all apart again. I'll show you what I did, now that I'm sure that if you're going to go this route, you'll probably want to do this to start, unless you have another frame lying around, but just take the center of your 10 inch frame. it's the plastic tarp and then you're just going to trace on top of the bar and you're just going to trace and cut a circle, so what I did because all of these yellow petals, you know, they still have their pipe cleaners attached.
I found pretty much, you know, what would be in the center, the center of the cane is now just about a three-inch circle, so I just zoomed in, you know, three inches to the circle and started adding my center petals and then just I filled around. that with the rest of them, so I actually have about four in the middle and I have nine on the outside for a total of thirteen. These are also dual pedals just like the rest of them, so just to quickly show you there really wasn't a me. I don't know the definitive science for this, I just winged it and got lucky, but it worked, so to use this as an example, all I did was run it through the network and you just make them stand up. up and I secured them in the back and you can make them stand up and you know pretty much any shape you want so if I gave you a quick example of how I made the four in the middle I'll just get it. together and just stick my pipe cleaner through the rack just twist it a couple of times so it doesn't go anywhere so as you can see you know it's pretty much in shape you know if you want to do what same thing I did with the four in the center and sometimes I used to eat petals around nine, this time it was nine, so you know, this is basically the same thing you would do in the center of a circle, so there's three and then just I'll do One more thing, all I do when I do that is just overlap, yeah, just to get that look in the middle so you know it's pretty much the same as the center that I have that I'm going to use and then everything.
What I did was I just went around like I said this time, last time it was nine, you know, two other times it's been eight and I just go around and that's how I ended up with this one, so I know at this point it's looking a little sloppy. , but once we get through it, everything will come together tightly in the center, so, like I said, now it's a three-inch hole and we're going to take something that's about six and seven inches in diameter, we're going to put it through a three inch hole, that concept. It might sound familiar to some of you, but it works, so here, I know it's really close, I just squeeze it and put it back in there so they get a little bit, you know, lift a little bit as you push it in. , just push them down.
You could be a little harsher with this you would think and like I said it's a pretty solid wreath and you know the petals aren't going anywhere. so once you have everything here, just spread them out any way you want, that's pretty much what made me so glad this worked. I guess this is the first time I tried it and you know how much I love it. hot glue this was definitely a little bit easier way to do it so as you can see I filled it in nicely. I'm going to put it back on the wall one more time and then all I'm going to do at this point is, you know, grab some zip ties or pipe cleaners and join the edges together so it's nice and secure and then it's done.
I'll cover the whole back with a piece of felt, you know, to hide all that, there's a lot of it. So I definitely recommend that if you make one of these to cover the back, we'll get finished products and you could say it filled it out, you know very well, you still know, put them wherever you want, but like I showed you. before you realize the way they fill up so tight either from a side view you don't see anything which is a really nice space you know it's not a problem and like I said it's about 26 inches around. doing it the way I showed you and I hope I can answer a few more questions than last time and you know you guys have a better idea of how to do this obviously, although if you still have any questions, feel free to ask.
