Computer Scrap How Much Gold In A Scrap PC

May 29, 2021
This is my eBay buyers account and what I've done is type the words "fingers cut off from

computer

scrap

" into the search block and let's see if we can find some fingers for sale. There are some there $26 for five ounces. Here's some that I was looking at before $800 for six pounds here it is, look what here's one here one big twenty-four pound four and understand that they accept offers for this one here this one up here the one I'm interested in is just a Price Buy it now, it which means there are no offers, you only pay that price and that is the shipping and they send you two fingers.

I think what I'm going to do is go ahead and do this as if the total is eight eighteen, so what? What I'm going to do is press confirm and pay and explode, those are coming at me. Hello YouTube Jury, welcome to my Mythbusters edition today. What I'm going to do is have a package here behind me that contains six pounds of cut-out circuit board fingers, what I'm going to do is show how to extract the

gold

from those fingers and then how to refine it into pure

gold

. The gold in these clipped fingers is not pure gold, it is karat gold and once we remove those sheets from those fingers, those sheets must be refined before we have pure gold.

More Interesting Facts About,

computer scrap how much gold in a scrap pc...

I found out that those fingers are about 50% or 12 karat gold, so 50% is gold and the other 50% is base metals. There is a myth that continues out there. About

computer

scrap

, the myth is that there is a quarter ounce of pure gold in every scrap PC waiting for those who can figure out how to get it out. Because of this myth, people who sell computer scrap online can get paid and get four to ten times the value of what the scrap is actually worth in terms of the amount of gold that can be extracted from the scrap, what I intend to do today is show that there is probably less than a tenth of a gram in any scrap PC computer that doesn't I don't know what it is, people want to believe that there is gold in these scrap computers, but there is very little and I intend to prove it to you today with this video.

Oh, and another thing I don't intend to do. a profit from refining this scrap, in fact, I intend to take a loss here. I paid almost four times as

much

in terms of how

much

gold I can get back from these severed fingers to be able to have them to make this video, so yes I'm watching this video to see how to make a profit with computer scrap. I have no intention of making a profit on the gold I extract from these cut-out circuit card fingers. My goal here is to make a video showing how you can get the gold. and then to show exactly how much gold can be extracted from this type of scrap.

Well, to start this process, what I'm going to do is open this box here and we're going to weigh the material that we have. Here are the fingers of our circuit board. Looks like a good material that trims nice and tight Looks like a good batch here now I'm going to try putting a weight on it here Okay, there were so many fingers in there that I had to weigh them in increments. I got these weights that add up. be twenty seven oh seven point five grams total one pound is 454 grams so if you divide this the total that we got by 454 I get five point nine six pounds now what I'm going to do is Borrow the bubbler down here in my pot and my waste treatment bucket for this experiment.
Okay, so I've got all my fingers cut out in two beakers, now what I'm going to do is add a little bit of muriatic acid, which is 31.4 5% hydrochloric acid. I bought hydrogen peroxide here at the dollar store and 946 ml of 3% hydrogen peroxide and what I'm going to do is I'm just going to add half of this bottle to each glass. Well, what's going to happen here is those solutions, the hydrochloric acid and the hydrogen peroxide will dissolve the base metals under each of those gold sheets and release the gold sheets from the circuit boards that are in the bubblers. , keeps the solution mixed and stirred while the acids act on those base metals, so what am I?
What I'm going to do is I'm going to leave this alone until I get 100% of every piece of gold from every one of those cutout circuit board fingers and then we'll take it back and refine it. Both glasses have been bubbling now undisturbed for 24 hours it's going to come in here and I see some oils releasing there so let's release some oils with this solution and bubble air through it, leave this set for another 24 hours and return to him. I'm not with This is nice gold foils coming out with those fingers now, so we'll let this set continue with the benefit light and from there the experiment has been an operation for about 48 hours and I just want to get in here, no, no, Yeah.
They are peeling off well now the sheets are peeling off, I feel good. I'm going to let these move until I get 100% of those sheets out of those fingers that looked good, well, these sheets have been bunching together for 72 hours. I'm really starting to see some of the oils coming off and the fingers now see a lot of Camila up, you lay on the bottom, this is going very well, coming out on this one is not at all good, I think I'll add a SeƱorito , how you, Brock, sigh, decide this Baker, the solution is not as dark and the sheets do not come off as well as smaller meat.
We have a new bottle of 3% hydrogen peroxide. Here I will add. About another 250ml or so into this bottle and I see an instant color change. We would take them out the same way, you can't with this much smaller beaver, it's about 1 p.m. Monday, day 4 of the experiment here, as you can see, I'm having quite a few sheets coming off of these fingers, there are some that still stick pretty well, but they come loose for the most part, so what we're going to do now is Let's go. to remove these fingers from these solutions and recapture the fingers that have not released their sheets and we are going to place the sheets in a filter and then I will continue with the process that I have here. a five gallon bucket, a regular old plastic kitchen strainer, a glass rod, a pretty thick one, we use it to hold my kitchen strainer and then what I'm going to do is pour each of these solutions into this strainer from here and Try to strain out the large pieces of circuit board fingers that have not yet peeled off their gold foils.
Okay, I'm just going to take these glasses here and put them in the strainer over there. I want these sheets that have come off. I want them to leave. through the strainer and into the bucket and I want to capture the circuit board finger pieces in this strainer so I can return them to the beach. There are all our gold foils at the bottom of the glass. Okay, you can see here that there are many. There are a lot of gold sheets left on these fingers, so I'm going to go ahead and put them back in the glass and try to take out the rest of the boards they're attached to so we can release the gold sheets and then capture them. all in one filter and refine them, okay, here we go.
I'm going to try to put these sheets back into this glass. Now I will rinse these gold foils from my hands from the strainer and put them in the bucket. Here she is in Stillwater. I'm going to do the same with the other glass. Angry, I spilled a bunch of gold foil. Try to clean them carefully with a filter paper. Why can we cover them now? I'm going to put these fingers back in the beaker so I can continue the process of removing these things from the painters. Now I'm just going to use the still water to rinse the gold flakes in the bucket.
Here I don't want any of those fingers to fall into the bucket, but if one does, that's fine. I want those fingers to stay out so I can put them back in the glass and finish extracting the rest of the gold sheets from those pieces of board. fiber from down there now what I will do is filter the gold Take the sheets from this bucket to a new bucket. Now I will pour the solution through the filters. Capture the gold foils in these filters. Here is OK. Here are our gold foils that we captured in these filters.
I'm going to go ahead and just observe. this, transfer it by hand to this glass and we will save it for later. This is the dirty solution I leaked from the golden fingers. I was going to try to reuse it, but decided against it. Everything will be a waste. about two and a half gallons good in this glass. I have the sheets that I just removed. I put this aside for now and these two glasses are still the fingers. Each of them has many sheets. I was going to reuse the solution. that I got out of there, but instead I'm going to add new acids and new hydrogen peroxide here and continue to let people extract all of this completely now while I have hydrogen peroxide each and we'll let these go ahead and bubble up.
It's 6 am. of the fifth day of this experiment. I practically have almost there are still a couple of pieces down there, it has a few long/long coils, not a lot today is Friday around 5:00 p.m. These things have been bubbling for over eight days. What I'm going to do is separate the pieces of fiberboard from the solution and the sheets and then I'm going to isolate the strands and refine them. It's fine for this first operation. I'm going to take this beaker, pour it through the strainer, strain out the loose fiberboard pieces, and capture the gold foil at the bottom of this bucket.
I'm not going to rinse the acid peroxide solution off the fiberboard pieces here with a little water. I'm using distilled water, but tap water would be fine here. Okay, now I have a clean bucket. I'm going to go ahead and put these fingers here and we'll rinse them with some hot water from the tap. I will use some hot tap water to rinse all the gold foil off the fiberboards. Now I will install another filter for the gold foils that I just rinsed with tap water. Here are our gold foils. I got most of the water out and now.
What I'm going to do is filter it through these filters and through these fingers, each one by hand, and I have 100% of the gold foil in each of these. There are a few more that I chose that didn't come. With the first rinse, I'm going to go ahead and pour them through the filters and I have to tell you, I never want to see another batch of this stuff again, it's just too painful. There won't be much gold here for a long time and there will be a ton of waste that will have to be dealt with.
I'm going to pour the rest of these oils into the filter and put them in here. I'm going to strain the acid peroxide solution through the same filter here to get those sheets out of here. I have all the gold foil on the filters here. Now what I'm going to do is wrap these filters and put them in the glass. Now I go. take this and repeat the whole procedure with that second cup full of aluminum foil, this is my first bucket of waste when I add the rest of this bucket it's about two and a half gallons so far which brings it up to at least three right there . so that's three gallons of waste that will have to be treated with this so far.
Now I'm going to go through the exact same process with the second glass, rinse them with a little bit of distilled water, put everything in a second bucket here and rinse this with a little more tap water. I've installed a filter here and I'm going to go ahead and pour it. Our goal is to get it out of tap water. These are our gold foils. Pour that through the filter. Filter the sheets. I will pour the acid peroxide solution that I drained through the strainer that has some oils in it. I'll pour this into the filter now, all right, here are the sheets for our second glass.
I'm going to pick this up and add it to the other filters in this beaker here, so now I have all the foils in this beaker. Okay, now I'm going to add the waste from that second beaker to my waste bucket. Here they would like to do a quick little review here on where I am. I'm this is my five gallon bucket full of waste, it needs to be treated and it's not going to go down the drain. What I will do is add sodium hydroxide precipitated from all the metals so that a pH of nine will filter out those metals. liquid and then we can throw it away when everything has been properly neutralized don't pour it down the drain nothing ever pours down the drain here here I have my fingers I was able to leave that there long enough to leave these my fingers there long enough to get a hundred percent off of them. cent of all the sheets and then in this glass I have all the gold sheets and the filters, so now what we're going to do is go ahead and put in this tamakwa region. here dissolve the filtered gold and precipitate and see what kind of performance we give them with these six pounds of cut-out circuit board fingers.
I'm going to start by adding some hydrochloric acid here I'm going to fill it up to the 500 ml level in the glass with the lid on, put it on medium heat, now I'm going to add about 10 ml of concentrated nitric acid. I'm going to add a little more hydrochloric gas here, bring it up to about the 750 ml level. the glass and I actually took it to the 1000 ml level and I'm going to give it a quick stir, we'll let that cook it for you. I'm going to stir it up quickly here, oh yeah, our filters are breaking, that's good.
I can still see sheets of gold down there. I'm going to add just a pinch more nitric acid here, maybe 1/2 ml at most, pretty sure all the figures have dissolved. I'm going tomove on, okay, the experiment has been boiling now. for about an hour, the temperature is 2:09, go ahead and take this off the heat, now let it cool. I've let this glass cool for a couple of hours. It's down to 67 degrees when I open it. Look, I see a lot of Golden Crystals floating on top of the solution, so I'll have to put it back on the fire.
Now add more night.ghosts, you might get the rest, that gold is back in solution. I'm going to add a few more ml of nitric acid here, cover it, put it back on the heat. I'm going to add another hundred ml of hydrochloric acid just to make. I'm sure I have enough hydrochloric there. Continue cooking for about half a mile at this point. Temperatures at 199 according to this machine. I'll take it off the heat and let it cool. We get here and put a little bit on a piece of filter. paper, do a stannous chloride test, you can see we have, it's rich in gold, there's a lot of gold in there, okay, I don't have any more gold particles floating in my solution, I cooled it to seventy-eight point five degrees, we have A plastic filter installed here, but go ahead and filter the solution now.
It took me about nine minutes to do that filtering operation there and the drops coming out of the bottom of the funnel are crystal clear now, so I have all the stuff that was rinsed out of the cake here in the filter funnel, the solution is completely filtered now what we're going to do is we're going to go ahead and transfer this to a yacht, another beaker and precipitate the pure gold, so the amendment now add the sodium metabisulfite and it will precipitate the pure gold from its solution. Gold star, see a solution that a little bit there looks like it might have a little bit of excess nitrogen in there so I'm going to add a little bit of salt Bama gas here now I really have a lot of reaction so I'm going to keep adding a little bit of sodium metabisulfite so that all that gold falls.
I'll do a quick health test here to see if we have anything to throw in, make sure all the gold is no longer in solution, and as you can see from that test, I don't really have anything in solution right now. After waiting a few minutes I noticed that the piece of filter paper I put the stannis on got a little dark there, so I'm going to go ahead and add a little more SMB and see if I can get it all right. Tannis test after the last SMB edit and I have nothing in solution now it's been there for about two minutes, it's been two minutes since I did this test for everything to fall out, now it's been left to sit for about half an hour .
I'm going to go ahead and fill this little tube with water and now I can see from my waist to my stock line. I'm going to filter the goal I'm going to rinse the goal while what's in the filter with a little bit of hydrochloric acid now we're going to transfer the filter and the gold or melt this year take it put it here the table and we'll melt it in a button you, here there's our little gold button, we'll put it here on the scale and see how much we got eleven point three. I'm surprised, I was only expecting about a gram per pound, we got eleven points. three grams of the six pounds of trimmed circuit board fingers, okay, YouTube doors, which will conclude this video on the six pounds of trimmed circuit board fingers.
I got eleven point three gram pure eleven point three gram 24k gold button, I will have it for sale in my eBay store my eBay username is baffling Asst baf al o s it took me over a week to get all those fingers off with the acid peroxide solution was a long process it was complicated I didn't make any money This of course I wasn't trying to make a profit from this. My intention here was to make a video to show how to take out the gold and then show exactly how much gold can be taken out of these fingers and what I found here is I have eleven point three grams, divide that by six pounds, so I got one point eight eight grams of pure gold for every pound of clipped fingers.
I paid $118 and divided that by six pounds, which means I paid $136 per pound for those fingers. Well, if you take and multiply one point eight grams with spot gold to 1330, it equals less than $80, so I definitely didn't make any money from this, but again my intention was not to try to make money, but to show how to make money. They took my fingers and then how to refine the gold into pure gold. I think I did it, so now we have something. If you watch this video before you go out and spend your hard-earned money to buy some junk computer, now you have something to do. a reference so you can determine the performance and what you will get from these trimmed fingers, other computer scraps, other forms of computer scraps perform even less for example like motherboards and pens etc which have even less than these pure gold. foils so you can expect much lower performance than these, in my experience cut circuit board fingers and Pentium pros have the highest performances of all the computer scraps so that will do for this video , thanks for watching.
