Building The Custom Engine Bay For My Coyote Swapped 1966 Mustang!

Jun 09, 2021
man, that looks good, what's going on? Guys, welcome back to the channel in today's video, we're going to go back to work on our

1966

Ford Mustang GT. In the last video, we took the car out, so now it's a rolling chassis, so what? I want to focus on today we're going to build these fenders so we're going to build everything here on the front and a lot of you were wondering how the body attaches to the frame and I'm going to show you right here. For now we've just drilled it, so we've bolted it on like this, but we're going to weld it all the way up, but we'll do that later once we get all these body panels off and paint everything really good so we don't have any rust or corrosion.

Now we're going to work on the front, so we did some things off camera. We trimmed this piece here because we were fitting the body perfectly to the frame and that's why we already self-drilled it. Now this. all nice and secure and the way we're going to do this is up here, we've got some more metal that we just got back from the steel shop, we've got these square tubes and this is basically going to go through here and it's going to bolt to the fender like this we're still thinking about how we're going to do it, we're probably going to make a little cut right here to access the strut once we get everything up, so let's go ahead and start calculating To figure out how we're going to do this, we've got the tube square right here and as you can see it fits perfectly under here, so what we need to do now is trim it to the perfect size and then we'll weld it. this bracket, so let's go ahead and cut and bend a little bit to get this square vent tube, as you can see we had to bend it a little bit because the fender actually goes down a little bit and now look, it's going to bolt on.

More Interesting Facts About,

So perfect, now what we need to do is start lining up these fenders on the car. We have a bolt down there and I think there's another bolt that we can screw into the top and after we do that we can start to see exactly where. We need to put these tubes on, so let's go ahead and lock these fenders on the car so we have both booms nice and locked and now what we're going to do is change plans, we're going to grab this bar. and we're probably going to cut it right here and we're going to build it right here and we're going to trim it right here on the fender so we can access the shock tower bolts, so let's move on. and we'll trim both sides down and then we'll hold it down and start making the holes for the bolt so that we have the square tubes securely attached here.

Now we need to make the mark exactly where we want the bolt and we have these nice ones. interesting things they are called rib nuts and they will slide through the hole that we are going to drill and then you will join them together and we will have the three bolt holes here, so let's go ahead and do some drilling and start putting all of this in, so we have both Facts, we have all the rib nuts inside, that's what they're called, so if you're ever wondering what they are, they're rib nuts, let's go ahead and install them.

We've got these two square tube bars here, everything lines up beautifully now we basically need to replicate the same thing for the rear section, so let's go ahead and grab some more tubing and cut some more, now that we have this rear bar. done and the front, what we're going to do now is we're going to go ahead and test fit this front fascia right here and we're probably going to trim it down a little bit. We want to put the fascia in there and then make sure that all the gaps are correct for the hood and then we can start working on the brackets to weld these bars to the actual frame, so let's go ahead and trim this front fascia a little bit and put it there , as you can see here.
The piece isn't lined up with our frame so we're going to trim this bracket a little bit here and then I think it should fit after that so we put this front grille in there we had to trim a little bit more down here and a little bit up here but everything lines up pretty well now what we're going to do is start working so this bar is probably going to go somewhere like this so we can hold the grill and the radiator in the front so cut more tubing so we have this piece of nice square tube and we have to use a medieval way of bending it, just holding it and bending it, but we have it nice and bent and we're going to have to do it.
Some trimming makes it fit perfectly there, but before I do that I want to measure the hood here and see what all the gaps look like before I weld, so we have the hood. All spaces look pretty good. We've got the clamps back here and that's why the hood sticks out, but if you look down, the gaps are nice and even throughout, which means we can go ahead and start welding our front piece here and then we'll be. In fact, we're going to remove it because we need to reinforce the shock towers a little bit more, so let's go ahead and remove this hood and weld this piece right here so we have this front bar nice and aligned, now let's go.
To go ahead and go around the welder and weld it so that we have the center bar well welded and it flows perfectly with the grill, all we will have to do is make two little tabs here to screw the grill on. and the front right there now what we need to do is find a way to mount this right here on the actual frame so let's get to work so what we're going to do here is take the fenders off because we're going to We're going to add another tube here as reinforcement for this top plate, so we're going to cut a tube down, notch it and slide it right over here and do the same thing on both sides and then this bracket here will just be welded together. up there and I'm thinking about making another one, a square tube that's going to go down right there and support all of that, so let's go ahead and take off both fenders and start making these reinforcements so we have everything off the car now we just need to add the two tubes here on both sides, so let's go ahead and measure it and cut it so that we have all four tubes with perfect notches.
Now all we have to do is clean all the surfaces and get these. welded ah guys, now that we have all these tubes welded on here, we're going to go ahead and put the fenders back on because we're going to have to weld these brackets directly under here, probably something like that, so let's move on. and grab the fenders and start lining everything back up on the car so we have everything back on the car. Now what we're going to do is we're going to start welding it, we're going to put a couple loads of tacks right here and I'm Thinking we're going to make another little bracket that comes out of here and it's going to go all the way up there, to the frame rail, so that keep everything nice and secure, so let's cut two more supports for there and weld everything together to have this front. nice and welded area now let's go ahead and weld the back so now that we have everything nice and welded we need to go to the steel shop and grab a sheet of metal so we can start cutting it because I want to package this all up right here and cover it to protect it from the elements, so let's go to the steel shop and pick up a sheet.
We just got back from the steel shop, but we have some new t-shirts on the website. right now, so make sure you go ahead and check them out, they won't last long. These are some cool new fastback designs. Now that we've got that out of the way, let's go ahead and see what we're going to do. the front part, so what I want to make is a kind of box with everything with the sheet metal, obviously we need to protect all this stuff from the inside, so I'm thinking we could make a plate like this and then also a plate that goes above and once we hold everything together, that will also add strength to the body, so let's go ahead and grab some cardboard and start making some cutouts so then we can cut the metal with the plastic cutter, baby, like that, baby So, we have everything right. and spot welded, we're not going to fully weld it yet and we also go ahead and put the fenders on and this

engine

bay looks amazing, we'll still be doing more sheet metal work which will be in the next video. and we're still planning where we're going to put our twin turbo setup on this car so we still have to be careful about what we do and what we don't do and then what we're going to do in the next video is Start working on the firewall in the rear here , we are making great progress now that we have almost the entire front end done, everything is bolted together and then we will start working on the back end, we need to start

building

the firewall. and then start attaching the dashboard, start creating the broadcast tone, so there's a lot more work ahead, so if you enjoyed this video, go ahead and hit the subscribe button, leave a like and also visit vtune.com to get some Fire products and don't forget. follow us on instagram vtune thanks for watching
