This is my championship winning wheel to compete with the Honda Civic, but that wasn't always the case when I bought the car, it looked like every other Honda Civic you rolled your eyes at in this video. the 5 year journey of how I took my car from a regular Civic to winning championships and ranking as the leading car in the polls in a Cup race at Luna. Okay, this is all. I just bought this car, it's a 97 Civic DX that is made to look like a Type R, it has a B16 engine which is awesome. I bought it for $2,800, it works well, it works very healthy.

When cleaning the car it was all about having it all one color, so we did a paint job in the garage to make the car Championship white. I made this as cheaply as I could and it actually turned out very good. We're ready to take out the engine, let's go. I went ahead and took it out, removing the entire front of the chassis because I wanted the engine bay paint to match the championship white, but also because I needed to swap out the subframe with an Integra subframe to better fit the K swap Bare Bones. I left the brake lines here because I didn't want to open up the system and let all that air in and make it a big mess, especially when I can just take it out, so I'm going to cover that wrap with some duct tape and it should be good to go there. .
This took a long time, but was very satisfying. This week we are swapping K, EK Civic and filling up a JDM K24. on it, we're going to open it up and do some quick internal things, we're going to put an S type oil pump, it's going to give a little more rev range, we're going to seal it with Moroso oil. Baffled Pan Oil Pan because this car will see track time and we're going to replace the head with a Z3 head which is the 8th generation Civic SI head while we're there we're going to put in a 50° cam gear.
To give a little more torque range and, um, lower some cams, we're going to put in an RBC intake manifold, right, RBC, putting a bunch of Kon tun parts on the car, some fuel, engine setup. throttle body, a bunch of stuff for the electronics, uh, for In this car we're going to use the Honda kpr ECU, it works, yeah the car was running but it wasn't running yet so we had to hook up a bunch of others things, like a working shifter and a full-size aluminum radiator to keep the car cool, all of this required fabrication, even the exhaust, so I opted for a 3-inch system instead of the typical 2 and 1/2 as I heard the 3 inch can make a little more power and I was looking for the same amount. horsepower as possible, ideally around 270, just a few more things to fasten and we would have the car on the dyno to figure out 268, as you can see we are back here in my garage, the K swap was successful.
I've already been driving it on the street and it's amazing. I love this car. K is definitely the way. There are still a lot of things we didn't do while we were in the workshop. Andy was very efficient and fast. I can't believe we did this as quickly as we did, but there were a lot of things I didn't order in time, with most bills, they go on infinitely and I hope this one isn't infinite, but uh, there are still some important things that we need to do to this car before it's ready for the track, the most important thing will be the tires, so we're going to put on wider 15 by 9 wheels for the front and 15 by 8 for the front.
On the back I have a set of tapered decagrams that will go on this car in Bronze finish, they look pretty good. I'm going to wrap that in some 245 front tires and 225 for the rears. I'm going to go with the reverse. dagger talking about the back of the car, it still has drum brakes right now. In fact, I had purchased an Integra rear disc brake swap when I bought the car and it's been sitting there, so what better time to clean it up and put it on. At the top I have the ktuned camber arm so that's for adjusting the camber at the rear and then up there I have an arm at the tip that's also tuned so I can help align the rear. of this car to match the front end so everything here is officially new and I think it looks fantastic it's going to perform fantastic and I'm really excited to get this out on the road of course if you're going to upgrade the brakes rears, you should also upgrade the front brakes to maintain the correct bias.
I opted for some Porsche 986 calipers on the front with larger rotors as they have proven to be the best economical big brake setup for Honda as they have the right brake balance and clean up small 15 inch wheels. The car was starting to go pretty fast now, so I wanted to make sure it was safe, so I put in a cheap four-point roll cage to make sure it was protected. This meant removing a lot of the interior pieces as well to make room for the cage and, by nature, also further reducing the weight of the car to offset some of the weight added with the cage.
I'm trying to offset some of the weight by having this roll bar on the car and that battery weighs 26 pounds, so a good way to lighten this car a little bit is to use an anti-gravity battery, which is what it is, this is a lithium which is better than AGM, and it is me. I can't describe to you how light it is. That battery weighs 26 pounds. This battery weighs 3 pounds. It's amazing, like I've had heavier dishes than these. The car is fully prepared for its first competitive year. At the races we were entering the car in the Grid Life Time Attack Street Class, the class was filled with 400 horsepower evos and STIs, but I was excited by all the prep work we put into the car at this point on its first weekend. week.
We performed quite well, finishing fifth in their class of 18, of course it didn't happen without some complications in the last session. I've soured on some Ka who make Ka sensors, they make specialized sensors for cars, as do we. They have a two in one oil pressure and temperature sensor in one, the other sensors that we have added are tire temperature sensors today and that is the core of it all, suspension, we have oil, yes, oil pressure, oil temperature . I also have engine coolant on the right side after another testing event in Chicago. I realized that my tires were holding me back. It just didn't have enough grip so I decided to take the plunge and tried to get big 17 inch wheels that would fit so I could fit wider tires.

We headed to Road America, but that event didn't go as planned, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, yeah. Great, it's going to need new paint, eh, unfortunately the next event was only a couple of weeks away so the repairs had to be done as quickly as possible. We put it back together off-camera and made it to the final event of the season in Gingerman. Race track where we could see how much faster we made the car from its first event of the season at the same track, it looks a little worse for wear. I left it looking a little rough for the sake of time, to my surprise.
The damage wasn't that bad, the car is fine now and none of the suspension components were damaged, it was just mainly the bodywork, so the fender, the hood, the front bumper door, my goal for this event is beat what I did last time we were here, which is a 14.7, hopefully with the bigger tires and less weight on the car and the differential and everything, I should be able to go faster than that. We're going to have Artsom weld the cage, so we have an 8o cage here, uh, 8 points. It means that we have 8 attachment points to the chassis, the cage will be TIG. These are some new Titan 7 R8 wheels that have the same design as my previous setup. I then cut my front splitter into just a bottom pan to help utilize the RS class even more and help its Arrow balance.
