Building a $100,000 PC for Minecraft

May 16, 2024
Carl Jacobs, a Minecraft YouTuber with more money than brains, approached us because he wanted to beat Minecraft on a 100,000 PC. I can't help you beat Minecraft, but I'm sure

building

a hundred thousand dollar PC would help you. It took six months and our bill ended up exceeding the 100,000 payment we received from Carl, but I'm very proud of the product our team delivered. This desktop PC is an ode to opulence, a portrait of prosperity, a ballad to the bourgeoisie, you get the drift. Incredibly awesome, but beyond the looks, every detail of this build was meticulously thought out and executed, let's take a closer look at our sponsor.

A big thank you for sponsoring this video. We decided on their E7 desk legs and if you stay, you'll be going to learn more about the construction and see how much weight these legs can hold. Carl was very particular that the PC had to cost a hundred thousand dollars. The only problem with that is that gaming computers, even the fanciest ones, don't cost a hundred grand. dollars now, we could just cheat and build a server with a bunch of 30 terabyte Kyoksia SSDs or we could build an AI workstation with half a dozen GPUs and then the same number of terabytes of RAM, but the thing is, neither of those things would work. make it better for playing

minecraft

, in fact it would probably be worse now that

minecraft

technically supports sli as does nvidia's line of workstation gpus, so if we could fit four of those on a computer that would increase our budget a lot, but when Testing quad SLI on Camino Grand or RM it was a mixed bag to say the least, we tripled our FPS and Rise of the Tomb Raider, but the frame times were so bad and inconsistent that the experience was actually worse and when I tried to run Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the system blew up so hard that I had to completely reinstall Windows, so for the components, we simply chose the fastest gaming material out there, an I9 3900ks RTX 490 core, 64 gigs of ddr5 memory and a motherboard EVGA premium z790 base, all of which came to five thousand dollars, that's it, five thousand dollars, how are we going to spend the rest of the money

building

something to put those parts on that is so expensive it will blow your mind and what better way? to show a top-of-the-line PC? like this then a desktop PC and it makes sense since furniture is very expensive like look at this thing you can't even put a computer on it what a rip off so with that taken care of we had a new set of challenges to overcome we were very worried that our fancy desk would survive the 3,000-mile trip to Carl.

More Interesting Facts About,

building a 100 000 pc for minecraft...

We didn't want another PewDiePie situation. Why not? I need technical support, but what if we could kill two birds with one stone by creating a desktop that is Both absurdly expensive and also almost impossible for FedEx to destroy, but don't try it. Mill it from a single solid block of aluminum. Now designing something like that is a lot of work, so I assigned it to Alex, who also decided he was too. a lot of work and I assigned Gary to hire a new employee. I met Tim. I spent the next two months of my life working on SolidWorks and coordinating with their Amish machinist to design a computer desk that feels like you're sitting in a TIE fighter and, more importantly, is possible to machine, we decided against it. with a single block of aluminum because if there are internal stresses in the cylinder head, the whole thing could banana when we take it out of the mill and also because if we break it into three pieces, Amos should be able to get more sophisticated with the machining using their five-axis mill, Many, many revisions later, we were ready to launch the machine overseas.

The desk was machined by an SS CAD camera in Squamish and over four weeks, Amish machines removed a total of 1,075.2 pounds of aluminum. Don't worry, everything is being recycled, leaving us with possibly the most beautiful computer case ever created. By the way, be sure to subscribe because we'll have a full video of the build of this bad boy coming soon. It was too much. a lot for a video, what is everyone doing here? Not now when you order from a boutique system builder the computer comes with a checklist where they verified everything was working as intended, for example this one came with a video originally made recently on and because here at Linus Tech tips We thrive on maximum professionalism, we have created our own checklist which will be completed by myself, the CEO, and will be included in the package so that Carl can trust that we have tested everything that is interesting to you. show it in a video starting with the sound system.

A total of 12,000 was spent to ensure this PC's listening experience could blow the doors off Carl's broadcast room with incredibly accurate sound. To achieve this, we have used two Genelec 8341a three-way points. The source studio monitors now the normal speakers look something like this, we have our woofer and we have our tweeter here and here, but the distance between these two can actually cause tiny phase problems, well not on the genelex, here the Tweet. The mids and woofer come from exactly the same place, which in theory improves the imaging, but what they can't do is hit really low notes, so we've also included the 7360a subwoofer, which should be able to faithfully recreate 20 Hertz, which is.
Widely considered the lowest note humans can hear oh we're getting some harmonics there weird oh that's Minecraft and it happens next. Genelect claims that this system should be able to reach 110 decibels without distortion, so just to verify, wow, that's really loud. We decided on the E7 flex points as the base of our project for two reasons: one, we obviously want to stick with the best of the best for this project and two, we needed something that would be able to support all this weight, since these legs can supporting up to 355 pounds, as you can see here within the actual weight limit, is no problem, but in this case we underestimated how much our final product would weigh.
Our PC desk ended up weighing about 380 pounds, so it needs a little help adjusting the height. Since we're pushing it to the limit, but unless you have a 370+ pound desk at home, it shouldn't be a problem. It is built with a thicker solid carbon steel frame to make it more durable and sturdy. Look at this, guys. very well, which is really important when your desk weighs as much as this one or actually really important in general so that your monitor doesn't wobble while you type. The E7 also features a convenient built-in USB charging port that allows you to charge your phone or tablet while you work, and what more can I say?
You're welcome Carl, since we're here, we can verify that the KJ on the wings is still beautiful, oh, and that the sides make that satisfying ping glass. above still Immaculate and if you're wondering why it cost over eleven thousand dollars, I need 0.2 just on the engraving on the back, the beveled edges to make sure Carl doesn't cut himself and these fine cutouts for our monitor arms from this type. It's not easy, but Hopewell Works did a great job and I think Lloyd and Sarah did a fantastic job on the design as well, since we're back here.
One thing I would recommend Carl is to make sure you have at least two power circuits for this PC because it draws a lot of power to deliver everything. There are a total of four power supplies. This seasonal SPX 750 handles power for the motherboard and CPU. This second SPX 750 delivers power to its RTX 4090 GPU. and the pumps on this side of the desk and then on the right side of the table we have the power supply for the standing desk and on the left side we have a dedicated power supply For RGB lighting, this is because in addition to all the typical gamer RGBs we've included, we've included five Astera Helios tubes and eight hundred dollars each.
These are filming quality lights that offer both the brightness and color accuracy you'd expect from something like this, without gaming RGB quality. You could expect to get close and the really cool thing is that they are controlled via Bluetooth so you can use your phone, just make sure you pair your phone with the three inside the desk before placing the glass panel on top of the four. Power supplies finally work for our physique, let's make sure the power button works like a nuclear launch, not like Minecraft. We're mainly here to talk about how our memory has an XMP profile of 6000 megatransfers per second, but we ended up having to slow it down a bit. dropped to 5600 since then it's been rock solid you might lose an FPS or two but considering how many you already have I don't think that's going to be a problem let's go ahead and fire up Windows okay latest BIOS installed, now we are.
I'll have to check some of the hardware here Carl the password is Roblox oh yes I can use a mouse pad oh my god please tell me we'll send this to you now that we're here we just need to verify the specs are as our customer ordered , which basically means the best, yes, two terabytes of Samsung 980 Pro, another two terabytes seems pretty good. Nvidia RTX 40 90, courtesy of Asus, there is a Trix model that looks very RGB and what you are probably wondering about it. The point is how the hell are we cooling all that stuff. I fear not, because inside this computer is one of the best and most complicated loops ever created to ensure that a frame never drops.
In Minecraft we have a total of six radiators, six pumps and three fluidly separated loops on the right we have three radiators and two pumps that are dedicated only to cooling the CPU and the same goes for the GPU here on the left. Did I mention the pumps are gold plated? Now it's pretty rare for you to do that. you have a task that would hit both the CPU and GPU equally, playing a game would be mostly on the GPU side while playing a video could be all on the CPU, so if water in a side became more than five degrees hotter than the other, our third loop, would activate in the middle.
EK custom made this gold plated heat exchanger that pumps water through tubes for the CPU and GPU loops to balance the CPU and GPU cooling water temperatures. How effective is it to find? We take the main gear mg1 um, thanks for the short circuit, despite having almost the same components, automotive paint and a custom front panel, it costs 93,900 less than Carl's PC. To compare the cooling solutions of each machine, we turned on the Prime 95 and Furmark simultaneously. and if you only look at CPU temperatures, you might come to the wrong conclusion: our main mg1 machine maxed out at 80 degrees on the CPU, while Carl's desktop hit 89.
However, this is not a problem because the desktop was able to sustain a power bill that inflates 310 watts on the CPU continuously even after 30 minutes of furmark, I wasn't going to drop it, oh I dropped that much even after 30 minutes of furmark, the RTX 4090 here only reached 57 degrees, that's a whopping 28 degrees lower than the main gear and in this case, the front panel won't even fall that way. Unfortunately, although performance does not scale linearly with power consumption, our cooling allows Carl's CPU to consume 47 degrees more power than the main computer. On the main computer, its Cinebench score is only 5.4 percent higher and on 3D Mark the desktop was only able to score 3.9 percent higher, so Carl's desktop is faster than a high-end pre-built one, but we're certainly seeing diminishing returns on this one.
Point out that the real test, though, of course, is how good you are at playing Minecraft. Okay, we're doing the job. Edition. Nobody played. Maybe we wanted to try RTX. Don't know. Wow, that looks freaking awesome. God, he looks as good as Shadow. it just looks like a dark light, it looks like a shadow, we're using 13 gigabytes of RAM running Minecraft no, I won't, no, I don't think anything can look better than what I already saw, not even my own children have a path laid out. Lighting on them, sorry my memory usage just hit 35 gigabytes, oh my goodness this runs at 40 90.
It looks absolutely gorgeous though, oh my kingdom Zumba, anything the light touches can be yours Oh, there is no elephant graveyard. Minecraft is so beautiful that it brings a tear to your eyes and we turned on something else, but one of the requirements was that no other game other than Minecraft could have been played on it. I might play Forza later though, but Alex from Minecraft, to look this amazing, not only does the computer have to be good, but so does the monitor here for the main screen. We have the Asus strix pg42uq, a 41.5-inch 4K 135 Hertz monitor that basically encompasses almost everything else out there.
Our guruof lab screens made for a quick and dirty calibration. on it and here are the settings it found to be best and with a measured Delta e of just 1.49, this is more than enough for gaming, more than color accurate enough for professional work. Now normally, using an OLED display means a drop in brightness. but thanks to a huge heatsink on the back, we verified that this can sustain 700 nits of brightness on 10 percent of the screen, which means HDR content will look properly HDR here, so I mean these won't They are commoner level side monitors. Each of these is a PG32 UQR capable of 144 Hertz with 4K resolution.
Now they're not as gorgeous as the main screen, but they're color accurate and more than enough to monitor the Discord stream and complete the ultimate battle station look. We didn't fully calibrate all monitors, but we made sure the white balance and Gamma matched between all three because that's the most important thing to make sure your multi-monitor setup looks matched. Now we have made sure that the speakers are working fine, but we need to check the rest of the streaming peripherals for an audio interface. We chose the fireface ucx2, which offers such clean sound that it will make almost any half-decent pair of headphones sound incredible, but when you plug them in.
TowardsWith the Sennheiser hd800 you get such good sound that the menu music in Minecraft will thrill you now we weren't 100 sure how quiet Carl's streaming space was so I hope it's not too loud because these headphones are open, so any ambient sound goes directly. Through them we also included an Electro Voice re20 microphone and a Sony zve E10 camera to act as a webcam. How do they compare to one of the best webcam microphone combos on a laptop? Well, no, not very, not very close, although what will not be included. it's the mouse and keyboard and I'd like to explain why because that was a call that I made, but I didn't make that call, ah, too personal, that makes sense.
The last thing then is to have a little chat about the warranty and support. The desktop comes with literally none of that. I don't want to say who, but there have been creators in the past who we build PCS for and then the people in our office become their personal problem solvers for a couple of months, which is something we won't be. Redoing, many of the components here were kindly sent for free, such as the RTX 4090 power supplies CPU, even that absolutely amazing artwork distribution board from the EK water blocks, but it also means that There is no absolute guarantee if something breaks, so you will just have to go out and buy a new one, we also recommend buying a good multimeter which is sold separately, as troubleshooting the wiring here will not be trivial if something goes wrong.
One last step to lay down the law, dear Saudi princes, this. The desk is one of a kind and we will never build another one and in the future any client will have to pay for engineering time since Tim worked on this for two months, more than two months, um, it has other things to do with everything said . We hope you like it Carl, extraordinary effort was put into making this literally the best next-gen gaming system ever and I think Tim Amish Alex did something. Hopewell Works, everyone involved did an absolutely phenomenal job. Have fun. outperforming Minecraft overall.
I'm very happy with the way this collaboration turned out. Our members have been using the E7 legs for a while and have been completely impressed with their remarkable stability and I'm sure Carl will be too. It's surprising how little it shakes when you're standing, even when you're typing while standing, its unique embedded joint and solidly built carbon steel powder-coated frame make it rock solid and what's really cool is that despite that our creation was too heavy for the E7 flexi spot later launched the Odin E7 Q legs that can support up to 440 pounds. We couldn't change the legs at the last second since the PC desk chassis was custom made for the e7s, but we'll keep them.
Odin legs in mind for any future heavy construction the E7 comes with a cable management plate and zip ties to keep your workspace tidy. It is easy to assemble and can be set up in minutes and with its sleek, modern design the E7 is a perfect match.
