Jun 06, 2021
Hello, what's up guys? My name is Kyle Warner and today I'm going to show you how to do a

bunny

hop. Bunny

hops

are one of the most useful tools for overcoming obstacles on a trail, clearing rough terrain, or even gaining a little more elevation. a flatter takeoff over the last few years, I've discovered a few different exercises that really helped build each part of the

bunny

hop, so today I'm going to show my girlfriend each of those exercises and we'll do all kinds of mix it up and see if we can do have her bunny jump on some things so April is going to learn how to jump like a bunny today and she's wearing a dirt jumper just because it's a little bit lighter and I feel like it's a little bit easier to learn.

However, the technique, that being said, this technique that I'm going to teach you today is the same for both a dirt jumper and a full suspension hardtail, either bike, everything works the same and she uses flat pedals. I personally have clipless pedals. on my bike, so I'll show you guys clipless, but if you have the right technique, it shouldn't matter, all transfers are the same, so you know and at the end of the day, if she takes us down. We'll have her do a pair on her trail bike to show you guys what she looks like.

More Interesting Facts About,

better bunny hops in 1 day how to bunny hop...

First, first we're going to have you guys do some on your own just to kind of have a baseline of where you're at and then I go and guide you on what we can change and then I'm also going to show you all of those exercises so ready, yeah, let's do it. okay, no, that was good, yeah, make a couple more that were actually very good on both attempts. She can lift the front wheel but has trouble lifting the rear wheel. She tries to fix this by giving a little kick on the pedal, but I'll show you a proper technique in a minute that was actually very good.

There are some small ones. things that I want to help you discover so get on the bike and we'll start talking about the first thing we're going to talk about is the riding position and how to get into the pull for the bunny jump, the most important thing. Part of it is basically coming into a neutral position, you don't want to go too low or too high, you want to try to think of your body as a spring, so when you come in you're going to use all your strength. the tension charges everything and then it explodes if you come in too low you don't have as much movement and if you come in too high and try to jump you don't have as much movement the first thing I like to do is come in a nice neutral riding position and then when you come in it will bend a a little bit of her arms and she's going to move a little bit further on the bike, this will allow her to regain her weight faster, so she's going to have more of a movement and then from here, when she's in this position, she's going to squat down and push her hips forward. back like that.

Shifting forward at the beginning of the bunny jump allows you to gain more power by moving your body mass backwards and gain more lift on the front wheel and so on, as soon as the front wheel is high enough to clear the obstacle you are on. trying to overcome, you will basically extend your legs, point your toes and lean forward like this and like that. It's going to be like when you do all of that in one quick motion that's going to make your body lift up and make the back wheel lift your legs, spread your toes down, and move your body forward all in one motion, like this. which is kind.
It's weird, but you basically compress your arms, compress your legs, push back, and then you just stand up and do it on your toes, all at once. It's almost like a jump to practice the first part of the ride on flat ground and try to lift the front wheel as if you were doing a manual, even just a few centimeters of lifting is good, the next exercise will teach you the rest of the movement and then the next What we'll do is practice an exercise where I'm going to help you figure out how to lift the rear wheel off the ground, then you put those two things together and it's going to be the front wheel lift, the rear wheel lift and that's how they level out.
I'll show you guys. what that looks like and show April what that looks like and then she'll practice lifting the back wheels. The way I'm going to do a rear wheel lift is I'm going to come in and basically I'm going to take my back foot and I'm going to end up pointing my toe down by pushing back against the pedal and lifting the bike up. The goal is to come in like this and lift the rear wheel over the line, so the key to lifting the rear wheel is point your rear toe down and lean forward a little lift it with your feet and cranks level and compress your legs shift your weight forward extend your legs and point your toes down all at once push your back foot against the pedal and use your hamstrings to lift the back wheel so look once again compress point down lift , that makes sense, yeah, okay, so it's going to be your right foot that you really need to point your toes down and push against the pedal well, okay, just the rear wheel, yeah, just the rear wheel, try the number one, oh, okay, that was pretty good, but get in with your feet level, okay, so not one foot down, oh, so feet level, like that's the normal driving position, but then just you point. toes, yeah, sorry, I don't know if I did a bad job explaining number three, yeah, yeah, that was perfect, April, okay, great, that was amazing, that was really good, so the goal of that exercise is basically making you understand how.
That kind of synchronization happens when you move your weight forward and drop your toe back as you lift the bike, all in one moment, everything has to connect at once and that's how you get that good lift, so that was the kind of purpose of that exercise made it great now that you have your body positioned down and you have the rear wheel down, so we'll look at the third exercise and this is an optional exercise, but it helps me. And it helps a lot of people learn to enjoy when you lift and do that shovel, you can level your bike, so what I really do is I'll actually just stand next to a bike, so I'll be like this and You have to take care of your shins so you don't hit your shins, just pick up the bike and then from here practice doing it.
It looks stupid and it's kind of fun, but a lot of people have a hard time going like that and getting the back end. Outside of the wheel, they say oh, I can't do it, but the bunny hop is as much a movement of your arms as it is a movement of your legs, so if you can practice getting up and then pushing and using your shoulders and everything you need to. of elevation which is the most important part of getting those bigger bunny

hops

. What I'm going to ask you to do is practice a couple of things like that and I'll grab the camera and we'll walk through it nicely. right, so take care of your shin too, okay, that was good, that was super good, so try to do it a little slower so you can really feel that j-hop movement.
Okay, from slow, yeah, that was good, yeah, it's like pushing down, yeah, great, that was. Great, okay, you're ready to do some bunny hops, we'll see. Okay, now she has the first exercise, which is that body movement that involves leaning forward and then moving your weight back almost like a manual. The second movement, which is to move the body forward. and lift the rear end and the third movement is your shoulders turn and your bike is pushed and leveled, so now that she has those three, she will put them together, try to jump that little line there and see how she leans forward with the chin slightly beyond the stem or handlebars, bend your legs and push your hips back past the rear axle to initiate the lift while pushing your hips back, step through the axle, extend your arms to shift the weight Go back and get the front wheel lifted as if you were doing a manual when the wheel is high enough extend your legs, lean forward and point your toes down all at once to lift the rear wheel.
Well, she tries number one which was really good, actually she's doing everything perfect. It's like lifting both wheels a little at the same time. What's really hard to remember for a big bunny hop is that the back wheel can only go up as high as you let the front wheel go, so you have to be patient and let it wind up and then lift it up, okay, so it's almost like have a little patience because you're doing it perfect, you say and it should be like, yeah, you cleaned it up, yeah, that was sick, I had like a nice little growl, yeah, that was it.
Awesome, this one was really good, she shifted her weight back to lift the front, she was patient and did a really good rear wheel move, that was really awesome, thanks, how did you feel on that one? Did you feel like you are patient? or how did that feel? I just felt like

lifting, okay patience the front end is higher let's see the rear go higher yeah and patience yeah that was good even though that's not my middle name cool this one will be the box of doom, so in April. I'm going to have to jump on this box pnw, we'll see how it goes, but I'll put it right there.
What do you think that thing is going to survive or not? No way, I was literally perfect, I was sick, my microphone fell off. Alright, now that she's mastered the technique on the hardtail, let's grab the trail bike and see if it translates and she's going to try to jump on that thing. Yes, I have to go faster on this bike. Faster. Yes Yes. I want to try to make the box, oh man I feel like I'm going to crush it now, seriously, how can you get lucky twice in a row? Okay, I think you can do it, okay, you got this, oh no, sorry buddy, okay, we do it. this one was really good if he had moved his hip past the axle it would have given him a little more lift on the front wheel and a little higher bunny hop but other than that it was perfect it was awesome thanks ok . she had an amazing April, it was really cool and, you know, it's fun to watch her go from basically doing a little front wheel lift and a little rear wheel jump to, at the end of the hardtail session, doing a j-hop complete and then even getting over the box on the trail bike with just a little crush, um, but how did you feel what tips helped you the most and what did you feel like you struggled with the most?
Well, what helped you the most is learning to be patient, which I struggled with. and by being patient to lift the front wheel and then wait to lift the rear wheel, which was the hardest part for me, was lifting the rear wheel, yes, because instead of going like that, yes, instead of both at the same time time and say forward back. As easy as that was what helped me yeah great thank you all so much for watching I hope you learned something from this video and can take these skills and apply them to bunny hop like April said the hardest part is just be patient with time, let the front wheel come up and then make a sharp movement to lift the rear wheel, but with all these little exercises that we taught you today, I hope you can learn it and progress very quickly, so thank you all for all the positive comments and We were touched and loved reading all your comments, yes, and thank you for all the stories of how this has helped you progress, because for me it has been very special to hear that and I know that in April many women they approached. and just say that you are inspired by this and that means a lot to us, so thank you all for everything, keep it up.
If you can like and subscribe that would be great and if you have any questions please throw them in the comments section and we will try our best to get to them as soon as we can, there will be more videos thank you all.
