Ben Schwartz Answers 'Sonic' Fan Questions | Entertainment Weekly

Feb 20, 2020
I have a few favorite quotes, but one of my favorite quotes is I'm trying to do an impression of Jim Carrey's quote from Dumb and Dumber. There's a line in Dumb and Dumber where he says he's listing things and he says our pets' heads are falling off and in the movie I have a line where there's a fish on my head and I end my list with there's a fish on my head. I loved Sonic 2. Sonic 2 for me was a lot of fun. I love Sonic 1 and signing with that, but Sonic 2 for me. it was a lot of fun, what a great question, it's for everyone, there's stuff in the movie, so if you've played the video games before, there's all these little easter eggs that we reward people who played, but if you haven't, we've created a movie. that you can enjoy without having played the game too, so it's a bit of everything.

I guess movies are free 5:8 when I found out I got the role first of all. I did this test a long time ago as kind of a favor which was a lot of fun and we did it to try to sell it to Paramount or whatever primont studio picked it up and um, when I finally found out that you know what they were going to go with me for the actual movie, I was walking down the street and Jeff Fowler, the director, called me and I did one of those that I did and no one was there to see it, but it was very embarrassing thank you for the question, it's an incredible honor, it's an incredible honor because I was playing these games like I was a kid in 1991 and then throughout the whole process, so the idea that maybe my voice is the one that brings a new generation to the Sonic franchise and then seeing the legacy and all the great people who support Sonic and play games and read. comics is incredible, I feel very, very lucky, it was incredible to meet him because he is one of my, I mean, he is a legend, he is an icon, he is someone that I admired, but for me it was very exciting to be able to talk to him. him and him being so kind, he's so charming and he connects with you, so it was exciting.

Dumb and Dumber is one of my top 5 favorite movies of all time. I've seen that movie so many times, so it was amazing the way I kind of figured it out, I played video games pretty well, but then when I read the script, I felt like Sonic was like a little kid who had all this energy and never He was able to do the things he really wanted to do. then they finally let him out and let him do whatever he wanted and stuff like that, so I played with that energy and excitement. I wanted you to connect with Sonic in a way where the comedy works but also the emotion works and he's funny and he's very confident because no one can reach him and stuff like that, so I wanted you to feel like you were talking to something to really relate to. .

I loved cartoons growing up as I absolutely adored animation. I watched Disney Afternoon every day after elementary school and then in high school I watched cartoons. The Simpsons and Futurama are two of the things that really shaped the way I write and think about comedy, so I always loved voice acting and I always want to get involved in it, it's a hard thing to do. I got in, so I tried really hard, I was really lucky and I got Randy Cunningham to be my first big character, but I always loved it so much that I always wanted to be a part of it, we have no idea.
