Apr 12, 2024
Welcome to the newest episode of Beating and Banging. I'm your host, Kyle Dalton. In today's video we'll recap yesterday's Cup race at Richmond, including some interesting

team

radio chatter during the race by Austin Dylan and Ty Gibbs, plus we'll talk. about the start of the race using wet tires for the first time in an official points-paying race and that finish and whether or not Hamlin jumped the restart; However, before we get to that, let's continue with a conflict that began to brew the previous week at the Circuit. of the Americas, when Kyle Bush was unhappy with Christopher Bell after the race and confronted his former Joe Gibbs Racing

team

mate at Pit Road this weekend in Richmond, the two-time champion was asked about the conversation that he had with Belle during the week.

Listen, I mean give more of my side than what I said on Pit Road, but for him to give me a great understanding of my goals and what I have compared to what he might think is going on and, um, he think I understood that and then I heard his side and I didn't really believe in it much when I didn't even consider him making a move because he was four lengths back and then all of a sudden he was there, you know? like he knew he was there but too far away to do anything and they hit me so what is it? the racetrack and then back to normal first Bush admits he wasn't believing what Bell had to say and then said he will race him hard until he admits he feels it on the track, very kfb of him, I'm not exactly sure what that looks like. but I'm here for it and now let's move on to Sunday's race.

More Interesting Facts About,

I have to say, like everyone else, that he was very interested in what he could experience running on wet tires at Richmond. I know it last year in the All-Star Race in that first one. In the heat we saw the wet tires put on a good show, everyone expected the same this time, when the green flag dropped you could feel the tension as the drivers entered the first few turns around the 3/4 mile track at a competitive speed. You have to give the driver credit, there were no incidents, once again the rain tires did not disappoint. Kudos to NASCAR for developing this tire which allowed the race to start in wet conditions and with only a 15 minute delay which normally in the past would have been at least 30 minutes to an hour, it was positive overall starting on a wet track, but the competition yellow flag on lap 30 that lasted until lap 48, yes 18 laps was too much for Nascar to have to improve on that, unfortunately it didn't.

The sanctioning body's only questionable decision the following day came on lap 170 of the second stage, when officials issued the yellow card for an incident with Kyle Bush. I use the term incident loosely because it was no big deal. Check out. It seems head and shoulders, it's almost like a brake problem or maybe a right front down Kevin, yes the car definitely went straight and not right front, it's definitely not down before knowing the cause of the warning. Fox's Mike Joy said that Kyle Bush had bounced off the wall and that may be the reason for the warning, in other words, he wasn't sure and it was hard to believe that was worthy of a warning.

I agree, NASCAR always says they issue warnings when it is considered that there could be an additional contact situation and putting the drivers in danger if you watch the replay Bush was all alone at the top of the track with no one even close by, I want I mean, not even close, and what's amazing to me is seeing how quickly the yellow lights start flashing, he's inside a second after Bush hit the wall, someone in the tower quickly pointed their finger on the trigger, something their long-time NASCAR fans have called Ghost Warnings, just one of those Shakey Head type moments, unfortunately, NASCAR didn't put an end to it any more in that second.
On stage there were a couple more things of note, first was the comment from Richard Bush's kids racing teammate Austin Dylan who was not happy and made it clear over the team radio that we have a silly strategy every week blank he said we are undecided no I don't know what to do which team owner Richard Childr responded calm down drive the car and concentrate here no use talking just concentrate yaza we know Kyle Bush hasn't been happy lately with The team's pit crew and there were multiple changes as a result, but Dylan criticizing his team for poor strategy every week is next level stuff and it's definitely not a good look to talk about angry drivers over his team radio.
He was listening to Tai Gibbs number 54 at that same stage later. He was arrested for a speeding ticket. I reported several weeks ago how Kevin Harvick encouraged the young jgr driver to stop pressing the talk button on his radio and it would be good for him, the young man ignored Harvick's advice and did it again Sunday in Richmond. expressing frustration to him a couple of times in this stupid scenario, I try to take him out with AR and I can't turn there in the corner, they just kill me in the passenger corner. FOX also aired Gibbs' comments later when he talked about Daniel Suarez and Owing Him Someday, it was a bad day relatively speaking for Gibbs, who finished 16th and ended his consecutive streak of top 10s in five races dating back to the second. race in Atlanta, in that final stage.
Gibbs' teammate Martin TRX Jr was clearly the dominant car he put out. front and stayed there for the last 20 to 30 laps, Fox Booth was convinced that Hamlin was going to catch his teammate in a green flag race with newer tires, they forgot to take into account that Joey Lagano was in the middle in those final laps despite Legano closing in. Half a second it looked like Truex was all but guaranteed his first win of the season until he wasn't on the lap before the White Flag lap. Kyle Larson broke free and Bubba Wallace ran into the left rear of the number five car, which slid to the side and brought out the caution now that it was a legitimate reason for a NASCAR caution in the first overtime race of 2024 Hamlin made a jump on the restart, it was obvious he made an early jump, even Harvick and Boer in the booth recognized it. when it happened, but NASCAR deemed it a clean restart a few laps later, Hamlin won and then everyone saw the consequences as Truex was unhappy after the race and pushed him into the back of Hamlin several times colliding with Larson, while that initially there was something. confusion in the broadcast about why the 2017 Champion was upset, he made it clear on the team radio thanks for the teammate who took me around the track, he jumped at the start James, yes he did, he left long before a reboot.
Zone, yeah, well, they better do it. something about it, although Trux was understandably upset, he really shouldn't have been surprised by Hamlin's move and sliding him down the track, the number 11 driver has made it a signature move and has done it repeatedly in the past, including last year with Kyle lson in Pocono. This is what Truex said about it back then, but I feel like I picked the right lanes and you know I did exactly what Danny did other than sprinting, pushing the five cars too deep into the turn and then running him over at the two-car fence, so you know he took it a little bit more I guess to make it a little dirty and you know I didn't so maybe that's your idea of the difference why he won and I didn't.
He didn't call him dirty, but his last words were prophetic, maybe that's why he won and I didn't. I have to believe it's true. I thought the same thing this morning and in the future, any driver should know if Hamlin goes inside. on a late restart he will slide them down the track and force them to decide between hitting the wall or pulling up in either direction, it's a losing proposition, he knows that's how the arrow works on these cars and he's used it to his advantage one and again. As for the restart, I'm not going to go into details, everyone saw what happened, it was obvious, I guess the drivers will be warned and if this happens again this season there will be some kind of penalty after the race I thought.
There were a couple of interesting comments starting with TRX, his frustration continued and he directed it at his teammate. I just felt like 11 used me in turn one and, um, you, so I didn't really appreciate, you know, my teammate racing me like that. I wish I had been given a chance and Larson talked about his visit and Bubba Wallace's apology, and I was interested that L brought up his story as if he had, you know, I would have been angry if he had completely turned around and in His comment or his sorry they probably wouldn't have mattered as much at this point, but I eventually got over it, but you know it's because I went straight and you know he invented whatever, it's good, so we've had our run. ins and and I don't think tonight was anything intentional, while it wasn't intentional with that past story, all I could remember was what Brad Kowski said last week at the Cir of the Americas when I asked him who he thought. should be NASCAR's main rivalry oh, Chase Elliot and Boba Wallace, it's easy, they have the two largest fan bases, if you make them mad at each other you'd be pretty funny, it was Wallace's boss Hamlin who He got the most votes from his peers.
The drivers were in a major rivalry, but no one selected their TRX teammate to join them. It may not turn into a rivalry, but I'm sure it was at least a very awkward competitive meeting. Alright guys you'll do it for this. episode I want to get his take on a variety of topics, starting with what Kyle Bush said about Christopher Bell and the long-awaited pre-race apology. As for the race, what did he think of those first 30 laps on wet tires and what did he do to it? Do you think about Austin Dylan's comments? Are there problems at RCR?
And lastly, I want to know your thoughts on the end of the race, including Hamlin's restart and what happened between him and his teammate. Trueex. Did Hamlin use it or was he just running like Harvick? he said on the stream and finally one last thing I want to congratulate Ken Young, he is a newsletter subscriber and the winner of a Kota hat for commenting on my main rivalry video.
