Analysing Anfield: Keep or Sell? Michael Edwards & Jurgen Klopps Liverpool transfer dilemmas

Jun 06, 2021

sell

them and make some profit while the stock is so high because it's unlikely to be like that 12 months from now and but I want to say it right before we move on to someone else or talk about them oh I would lean if that if put if the sale did not take place or there were no offers. come in to

keep

them just to shield some of the issues that we talked about with the other four in terms of potential fitness issues yeah I think for me I would be inclined to

keep

them on the minute this summer huh and the reason for that is almost like a safety net like a bit of insurance as i say d if things start to go bad again or if for some reason band i cant start playing three games a week all of a sudden or gomez takes a little longer or whatever, i'd be inclined to keep phillips um as a fifth pick player um if an offer for him comes in from the major league club or whatever for over 15 million i'd be tempted to ditch him just because of what you just said and that's how you have to think most of the time.

Is this player's stock ever going to be as high as it is now? You know that was the case with the Liverpool fans where they were very much like to loan them to Sheffield United they let him go on loan but he only spent half a season at swansea scored something like 11 goals um and if you imagine how imagine how much it would cost now imagine how much

liverpool

will be able to

sell

him for now if he only had a full season on loan abraham elaine didn't score once you know what i mean that's how you have to think but with phillips al. although im thinking along those lines with stockholm you know if its going to be worth that much again ever i still cant help but think about what happened this season how

liverpool

have to guard against that so if liverpool season next year to january window is perfectly normal no issues and philip scissors but i guess he wants to play more then i would be a bit more inclined to sell them but until then i think he should start the season at the club. in case something goes wrong because i think he can he showed that he can be a bit of a reliable presence and just get a job done on something he'll become a little bit more confident um so when it comes to communicating with williams dave what? what are your thoughts on him um he would be a if options available probably looking to loan williams um i think he has shown enough to have a really high ceiling and be a top central defender so would you loan him ? them to the premier league or championship i I'll be honest actually it's probably not the championship side huh yeah I would too yeah I just think it's probably a better environment for me to learn and play would I guarantee you would play in the main league, yes?

More Interesting Facts About,

analysing anfield keep or sell michael edwards jurgen klopp s liverpool transfer dilemmas...

I have to admit that I don't think he's too ready for top division football. I think the Liverpool system protects them to a large extent because of how entrenched it is and how dominant it is sometimes, but I think just at a standard club, let's say for example Evan Dave or you know. any club in someone else don't mention it anywhere but what about ben davis because this is a very difficult topic to comment on because I have no idea I don't have wheelchair treats really um and I don't know too much history behind it I think it was a lot it's along the lines of liverpool bringing him in as an extra center back and cabac was the first to be ready to play let's see and he just came on before davis i thought about the lines along along the way davis has photo i also fixed the weird ones the weird bumps so its hard the same and what to do in this summer. in them, if you come back another championship and then offer to double the money paid, I think it was only about 1.5 thousand or something, wasn't it really small? um you know if you can or you paid four thousand five thousand you probably sell huh and he's a you know he's a highly rated player um you know I had seen I had seen parts of him he was good um I talked to a guy our producer who saw preston a lot said they are you know a top center back probably one of the best um oh so he was a top level championship player uh he could probably adapt to the major league pretty well and I moved to the major league was probably on the horizon maybe just not to liverpool but it hasn't really happened so far if if liverpool didn't have the quality they're already in that position you know maybe you'd be more inclined to say they give it a chance but you know he's pretty clear they're going to be maybe the fifth or sixth tree so you know if Liverpool really needs it on the books they probably don't and I'd be inclined to sell it if you can make a profit a, yeah he was an emergency son i think ben davis obviously liverpool got him for a really low price because the deal on him was expiring in six months. so I think since he was an emergency we didn't need him in the end as an emergency and now that you could argue the crisis is over I would be inclined to sell him yourself I think if Liverpool could get the whole thing. the way

edwards

tends to work if liverpool could get five to ten million four considering you know he's english i think he's around 25 26 good with the ball no real problems nowadays plenty of clubs to take him to sell talking after them so if liverpool can get anywhere from five to 10 million ion for them I think it will be a great deal um possibly you know if the needs should send them on loan but I don't think I'd be inclined to keep them around, but you know it's hard we don't know the behind the scenes story and then the final question dave when it comes to defense plus signatures um i think for the reason you know just play that we've talked about something in the past we let car bottoms out and all of them but I feel like since we just talked about it being pretty inflated in that position um maybe move players I've been inclined to save the finances you know the resources you're for all positions personally right before we actually won huh obviously we know the answer now but if we had done this a week or so ago what would you have done with cabba? um, that would have depended if there was something better to show me who I am I thought it was cool, you know, but I wasn't particularly overly impressed, yeah, yeah, it wasn't a bit that beige outfit, yeah, I felt a little too hard at beginning.
analysing anfield keep or sell michael edwards jurgen klopp s liverpool transfer dilemmas
I'm glad that's how we went. Otherwise I have an egg on my face. I think it was fine. You know nobody's huge table. I think a player like Canada has a higher stamp and I think Liverpool can aspire to that. So yeah I would if I had let him back in the dugout and I think I would have looked for someone who has someone who is better essentially Canada is midfield so this is another one that will probably divide opinions so Liverpool currently have to Jordan Henderson. thiago fabinho james milner caters to jones ox navicator and if you include who is coming home marco then you have seven slash eight midfielders there uh there is a common consensus that liverpool need to buy a midfielder because why is alan leaving um so let's start wit h before we go to if you're buying someone or whatever we'll start with what you're doing with the players we have completely because that's the first thing I guess so we'll start with the tickets one of all for me I found this wonderful what are you doing with nabi kixer good question um he's just tending it's hard because you know it just hasn't happened right? i like how it gets tired and you just want to stand out a little bit more and fruit but i just cant see it actually i mean short answer i have been clients and maybe give them just one more year because what it really sounds like through me is a conversation we had about the failed test a couple of months ago where you know you pointed out his age you know he's still in his early 20s i think he's 25. you know technically he's not even in his prime , yeah um just so you know with that in mind maybe i'd be inclined to go one more year what's that?
analysing anfield keep or sell michael edwards jurgen klopp s liverpool transfer dilemmas
The really hard thing about this is why I got stuck between the posts because he has two years on his contract with Romaine so if Liverpool go one more year then they will be in the position next summer where he has one. He has a year left on his contract. Do you give him a new contract to preserve the value of him? You sell it, but it's gone? tough place at the moment where he's clearly a good player Liverpool clearly want to keep him probably because of his level but he's just not enough in the field for Liverpool to assess what to do with them really um I'm just not sure what it would be the answer if, for example, an offer of 25 million for him came this summer and I'm curious to know what the club would do with that because that would tempt me even though his availability is good, clearly good. in liverpool it's practically wasting per year instead of better um so if we go back to 2016 that was abby leipzig um in the bundesliga so she started 29 league games a year later she started 23 then she moves to liverpool she starts 16 next season in liverpool nine starts and the season has just ended.
Started seven. He started seven games in the Premier League um yeah well it's the kind of thing that almost blocks me because I want him to do well but I'm depressed by the fact that it's even the case but the fact is it's almost starting less over time, but it's if there's no indication that it's getting better, that's a tough question, I think so, I agree, it's yes, I don't think there's a straight answer to that. one, it could depend on what happens with you, you know the interest of other parties if you can get your money back then you take it um I think for me in this case I would be inclined to keep it and not be actively looking to sell them and I think.
I think I would evaluate his contact situation next summer, but I think in the meantime, if some kind of incest materializes around him, if some offer comes in, he wouldn't hang up the phone. Do we take a loss here? You know? Do we accept that it's not happening because it's been about five years since he played over two thousand league minutes in a season? Yeah so when it becomes available again it's just you know you haven't done that for five years it might be hard to start doing it again I don't know where but hey your problem is josh isn't it? it breaks down and that will prove it by playing more. regularly after not playing for a long time you know that just opens the door for further breakdown so yeah i agree er

michael

glea so yeah so they won't be the quick answer there but yeah, you know it's celery I ever paid to take it away because I'll be fucking honest until I talked about preparing for the show.
I forgot about them. I know. anything, when is this contract, well this form is part of my answer, I'm going to sell them and I think someone in particular would try to avoid lending them out again because from this summer he has two years left um so if we have to loan him another That means next summer he's probably doing it with the year left on his contract which means we're not getting much for him but yeah but I want to be too hard on him don't get me wrong I think he's had a series of loans and in general he has done quite well as with all the clubs he has been loaned to with the exception of maybe Paul during this season I haven't checked but I don't think he played that much I think he played in 2000 minutes he says which is a play he was played in but not maybe star ted every game seen in the league in the league he only started nine times um and only played about 800 minutes i don't think he ever had the best campaign u m again i think its a decent sound i think it would shoot a lot of sides to be honest decent player um but i may never have generated the i dont know the clamor around his name the way a brewster did and the way he which phillips maybe now flawed never really made it but yes easy answer If we can find a buyer I would definitely sell it.
I think he's had enough lungs and I also think he's 26 now or something, so if you're going to sell it, you want to do it now. while he's still in his prime instead of when he's pushing yeah and then Ox Dave there's some question marks around doctors I guess from certain people and I just thought I'd throw the question in there it really kind of baffled me when You mentioned them earlier as a side because maybe we can differ on this but I don't have the opinion of selling them to be honest I think it would be good for both parties.
I think he could still go and be an effective player at another club. You know someone like West Ham. an effective starter at another club but I just don't think he'll, you know, full of appeal to people, um, so I'd be inclined to get some money back because yeah, I have issues with myself, but I think if some incest was a wizard around him and if there were offers around 20 million maybe for him, he'd be tempted, um, like I said, he wouldn't be in a rush to sell, he wouldn't be.yeah look this is another one and this is what I was saying earlier when it comes down to it's hard to say yes or no to a certain decision because of the number of decisions that relate to, well what if it goes or he stays or whatever if Liverpool can sell mind you know what I just realized I haven't even put an amino on this oh he's still on loan isn't he? to keep elliot just because of the weight we've lost on attack day and options that we can't just start using for everyone so we need numbers to some extent an attack and I think if we get rid of those players I think that would free up a bit of space for elliot dente to be used but a lot of that would depend on who we can trade out of the team and i don't disagree with what you said in terms of if he's definitely ready and would benefit from a long pass to a top division club i'm going to say premier so dave also needs the time machine yeah yeah huh to a top division club because i think in the championship this season you know we scored it a couple times tweeted the box and a spade two Sometimes, he's doing very, very well, uh, a very interesting player, he reminds me a lot of I've compared him a little bit to grelish because he doesn't, he doesn't score as much, but he's really creative, very good at moving the ball forward is really good for seeing things other players don't see getting it into the penalty area that sort of thing so if Liverpool can sell the right players I'd be inclined to keep them but if not I wouldn't have any . problem with that with a major league only uh shaqiri dave yeah i think i think i would sell shakira as well actually he's the kind of player we always talk about you know he's another option he can change the dynamic of the attack a little bit but it doesn't really look like it. doing that when it actually does huh and to be honest with you that's maybe even a bit harsh i just think people could probably have an update for that kind of profiling squad yeah

klopp

looks like for whatever reason though from the fact that it's kind of a little gate key and it feels like a good option to have on the bench the club seems pretty reluctant to use it most of the time i think um and i think it would be better to maybe go into a player who offers similar things to shakiri but

klopp

has a little more faith and has the potential to continue to have his prime at

anfield

instead of shakira who maybe happened to talk you know he's not 29 so yeah, i would be inclined to sell it obviously given its age you you absolutely wouldnt lend it lately not much of a deal there its just a sale these days but yeah i think i have been selling even though he i think its been a solid page , so really I feel you that you know that I've got it for about 13 15 million.
I think it's been a decent buy, um and then another one, I get rid of it. Honestly, I just know that he is a. emotional props for the group aka maisie derby she obviously just scored a lot of goals against everton uh she scored some big goals in you know some of the big games in title races and obviously got the goal in madrid on his way to winning the Champions League, but you know, in terms of just one player, he's nowhere near this level. he just needs to be sold in my opinion ye ah the only thing with the league is he's still on contract until 2024 so he shouldn't leave the club until the clappers so technically he's in no rush to sell him don't know technically he could to be loaned for a year and Liverpool would still have three years on this deal to get a decent fee for them, obviously they would sell them, but what I'm saying is you don't have to force them out and collect any fee for them.
I could loan them out and get a decent fee next summer, but I think in terms of keeping them on the team, I would definitely, at least, loan them out just to play, but to get them out of where we're going. I don't want to sound too much I don't want to sound you know horrible about it but you know he's a player I don't know why he's still at the club he's really been at the club for a long time now and like you said he's delivered some emotional moments and things like that, but in terms of his level his level compared to those he's playing is definitely a step below so he's a player if Liverpool can get some funding for that would be ideal um and finally they've allowed me amino at the end huh? what are you doing with it? it's not an easy job what mr

michael

edwards

does is because there are some gray areas and he's a bit of an i'll do it again i'll do it the client will ask me to say shell because uh it's an opportunity to get some funding and to the player I'm not convinced it's going to work for if he'd gone to Southampton and toured it showing the kind of Salt Salzburg version of himself in the Premier League in a capacity so yeah I'd be thinking okay , take it back to a field and let's see what you can do it knows when the campaign is settled but it just doesn't so that to me says you know if you can sell so yeah another one that still has a few left years on his contract so Liverpool aren't in a rush to sell em but I think it would be interesting to see what edwards and klopp do if they have a bit of a clear choice on who to lend and who to keep between me and elliot and amino um because I think you know looking at the nationality it's hard to be all in the championship i think there are some points there you could make in favor of keeping ali is not alone with me no rather than keeping me amino and lonely elliot but yeah that's the thick one that He never wants to be seen by Southampton I want to keep them and stuff so we'll keep an eye on him and then crucially Dave Designer so I'm assuming you're worrying in this department what are you doing? so there's a game that i think might be a good fit uh i wrote them recently and that's the reason i really bookmark is because mike might end up playing the others leaving belgium and it's jeremy goku um who You know he's only 18. he joined wren's last o was it was last summer i think it was wren's last summer in the league um originally anderlecht i think the group actually tried to sign him about three years ago um but to be fair to me he is he well this it's his side of the story he finally turned down the move just saying he didn't think he was ready to take that step and he opted to stay and progress develop more organically uh playing you know consistent first team football and turned out to be a good player in the league this season um no he's all they know basically he showed up well in the numbers um for example i have an idea. he dribbles in a pair of 90 bases um you know almost almost 10 for 90 which is high i wouldn't expect to see that Liverpool but then maybe um and i saw i saw a lot of clips of him um and he has a lot of similarities like a sadio mani dude yo you know what he's ready he's very hard to predict with the ball a bit of a maverick though he's only small maybe like five foot seven five or six he's pretty strong I've got a lot of pace it's just very hard to defend against the only the downside is he doesn't have the um he doesn't really have the exit in the last third yeah you know he only contributed to five goals this season but he's still so young I think he's a player that could maybe people could bring for a reasonable fee and he could grow down to the likes of Marty and then maybe move into like a successor and he can't play both sides as well so just the reason I marked him down Josh was a player.
I wrote about at least recently I know he goes to euros with Belgium and he's just someone a little bit different than the names we've mentioned here before, um, you know, if we were more predictable, maybe they could be like a raffin type character. because i think ravine is you know a player we talked about earlier and maybe it would be an option but yeah just someone wanted to score with you and obviously the people listening and watching yeah it was someone i was going to mention when we did the scouting part a few weeks ago when we were just marking names it was kind of on my list but all three of them got over it I ended up picking last but I think when it comes to quiet in the advancement department for me if I were Edwards , I would look. a striker who can play multiple positions obviously as money can and i think Liverpool should always look for players who are in a position to deliver now i think they know they have made most of their developments hopefully so i just listed three names which I think if I was in charge, I would have a little deeper box because I think they kind of loosely fit the criteria, I'm highlighting, um, one of them is don marlon, who I think dave checked the other week on the scouting just been having a good season psv uh i think he's a versatile psv in multiple positions do you think he's played most of the time this season in the middle but he can't play on the left he's also played a bit on the right right- Footed scored 19 non-penalty goals in a Dutch touchdown in VC this season while also recording eight assists and is still just 22 years old. another player that i think fits the bill as you just mentioned dave is ravinia very good player really intense difficult difficult to defend against fast around 24 i think he is a good age he has a few years left on his contract so It means that we will see how much it would cost, but I think he has shown this season that he is really capable for the pace and I saw someone, so he is actually saying that you know how to compare and compare them with sancho and stuff and someone looked at sancho's numbers on her fingers numbers in england and you know they did the hits like athena spent a year in dort mund would be posting sun numbers probably uh thats debatable but i think theres a point there to be honest the only thing with ruffinia it's that they let him fool now that Salah is also staying and obviously setting up the right side of the field because of that and i mentioned about the left foot of kevin elliott, harvey elliott and harvey elliot, so the only problem with that would be if i were to sign rafinha i would have rafinha salah and eliot like we all came for the same place alright that's always for Loan Elliott is out but then there will be a point where Elliot it'll start to get more play time and then you've got a little bit obstructed position in there a little bit if you want so that's a problem with that one and the final player that again I think fits enough is another player that I think we have mentioned in the past having lozano so it used to be a psv until it got to a point it got to marlon now and he moved to napoli and i think he had a quiet start at napoli but this syria season scored 11 times and helped three and now he's 20 25 years old he's fast he's intense he's still 25 yes yes a little older yes he's fast he's intense you shoot the overall intensity of liverpool's passion game and stuff keep carrying the ball it's tricky, so your three players , who I think still have enough room to evolve but have also evolved enough to deliver to liverpool right now they are very similar to joshua I am very similar to sally and manny when they came to liverpool immediately very good players but Warsaw became a better place.
I don't feel that way to the extent that they've essentially already delivered the main league site, so I'd look. I would look that you know that against those players it is difficult to determine who it would be. buy because a lot depends on who goes who would go, but these are just names I wanted to say to really mark David as fitting the build I'm after. those three um would be a good move and i have to say i think it would be good for fields to bring another four inside i thought josh had definitely upgraded the offense while he was available last season specifically pre-injury you know he put some life almost fresh , I would say on the front line huh and I think if people are really going to want to push for the major league again I think they're going to need it you know they're going to need those fresh faces because I don't have your call josh I was listening I was watching the bt interview with um guardiola and ferdinand and he was asking he was asking eh guardiola you know how you do it do you continue to motivate by your side every year? eah you saw him to go and win trophies and he said that you know he asked he answered with ferdinand's questions he said how many premier leagues did you win ferdinand six he said and the team that won the first one was that this seems to be the team that wanted it Last obviously said no he said well I'm glad everyone pointed out that that's the key and you know you have to bring in fresh faces.
I just bring a new quality attack. I can give the front line groups a big boost next season yes so to wrap up I think we can probably say that Liverpool are going to feel a fair amount of selling to do now after signing with Canada obviously they didn't . I need to sell anyone who is ready to get Kanathy and that wasn't necessary and I think if Liverpool can do the cell I would look to bring a further breakthrough maybe one of those three names I just gotlist and then maybe it would be an ingredient If we manage to sell the players we want, I'd look at you, you know our number ten, slash, number eight, who can?
You'll be collaborating with goals, like the two listed above, so yeah, I think we'll end there. they were a little over the usual time mark huh but yeah thanks for joining us mate yeah i enjoyed it. summer, so if you have any podcast ideas for us let us know, we'll see what we can do there, thanks for tuning in, see you next week.
