AMAZING DOLLAR TREE EASTER DIYS│ YOU'LL LOVE THESE CLEVER $1 DOLLAR STORE HACKS

May 30, 2021
What's up family, welcome back to my channel? So today for you guys I have my first Easter DIY of 2021. If you're familiar with my channel lately I've been on a sweet decorating cake so basically I make decorating pieces that look like different types of candy I started in December 2019 with a little fake whipped cream topper and I've been trying different things ever since. Back in February I did an ice cream theme for Valentine's Day and it all turned out really cute so I wanted to create some Easter DIYs with those kind of realistic dessert looking decor pieces along my journey I'm still writing on a channel called the pink

tree

and I recommend checking it out.

I'll link it below for you guys to see just for her. She emptied herself. I thought she. She was like inside a room or something, but she once mentioned that she was in a shed and it's the cutest little thing, so I recommend checking it out below. She makes a lot of different candy, she uses different products, they're not necessarily from the

dollar

tree

. I recommend seeing it again. I'll link her channel in the description box below before I start this video, though let me know if you'd like to continue seeing this type of sweet decor.

If you do, be sure to like it and if you're not already subscribed to my YouTube channel, be sure to subscribe. I upload a lot of DIYs from Dollar Tree. With that said, let's start the video we're going to start with. some light putty from Dollar Tree. I recommend purchasing at least four containers of this just to be safe. You also want something to put the putty in and I'm going to change the color of my putty to a purer white. color, I'm using this apple barrel paint in snow white, so I go ahead and scoop the light putty into the container.

If you plan to buy the putty at a hardware

store

just make sure it's light because if it's too heavy it really weighs down anything you make after I have my putty inside the container I add my white paint and then I just stir it until I get the color I want. I like it and the consistency I like, you just want it, at best The way I could describe it is like a creamy consistency, you don't want it to be too soft or too hard. Next, I bought two packages of floral foam circle pieces from Dollar Tree, so that's four in total and then I'm done. adding putty between each layer, so I'm just putting the four together and using putty to essentially glue them together.
I'm taking the floral foam pieces and placing them on top of a foam plate. I like to reuse my foam plates instead of just throwing them away so I'm going to use this for this project now I go ahead and use a spoon to start applying the putty the spoon is just a spoon I bought from Dollar Tree they come in a pack of four I now realize that it is It is better to use the back of the spoon to apply the putty. If you have a frosting type utensil you can use that too, but this is what I have on hand with this particular DIY.
I applied the putty upwards and didn't. apply a thin coat, you don't want to apply anything thin because the caulk doesn't necessarily adhere better to this soft foam until it dries, so if you're just putting on a thin coat you're still going to remove it. You have to put a thick layer so as not to constantly remove the putty from the foam. Once I had the caulk around the sides of the foam, I then applied it to the top of the foam again. You want to apply a good coat. layer of putty is not at all too thin now im going to use these piping bags that i bought from michaels i used a half off coupon that cost me about two

dollar

s and fifty cents and then this icing tip that i bought for 99 cents and what What I'm going to do is put a little bit of putty inside the piping bag and then I'm going to start using the tip to create a little design.
Basically, I'm just throwing in the putty and nothing else. fancy because I don't really bake in real life so it's not like I know what I'm doing. Dollar Tree carries a piping bag with a few different types of tips you can use. I only use these things so often that it makes more sense for me to go elsewhere, I get more bang for my buck by going elsewhere and the plastic tips that come from the dollar tree you can only use so far before they fall apart , so I like to buy the metal ones for 99 cents. somewhere else and I can reuse them over and over again.
Next I bought these carrots from Dollar Tree, they are covered with twine and I'm going to decorate the top with two of those carrots, so as you can see I was making some. carrot cake, it turned out so pretty once the putty has dried, you can always come back with a block of sand and sand it to make it nice and smooth, but no, I'm not talking about that life, I don't have time to do. Okay, so I decided to make another carrot cake. I basically did the same thing, but this time I started by applying the frosting, you know, the putty on the top of what the cake is supposed to be and then I went down the sides and it worked. much better so if you do this start at the top and then work your way up the sides and I also applied a very thick layer of putty around the sides because I needed it nice and thick for this carrot cake.
I wanted to do something more. a little different, I wanted the sides to look like they had crumbs in them and also the top, so one day last year during the fall I was trying to see how to make fake candy apples and I was watching this video of the girl in the south. I can and will link her below and to create the nuts she ended up using k-cop, so k-cob is a bird in the small animal bed. I decided to use it as the little crumb, so I went ahead and used my hand. to push that into the putty and you're going to have to push it, you're going to end up with a lot of loose pieces, but keep pushing it in and you'll be able to get a nice layer of that, so I put it on the sides and then I put it on top of my cake.
I forgot to mention this part. I was also making the cakes on top of a foam plate so I could use that foam plate as the base of what holds everything up. together, then I come in with my piping bag and I don't even know what I was doing, I was just playing with it. I was using the same tip I used previously. I applied the putty to the bottom and top of the cake. and then in the center of the cake I add two tablespoons, if that's what you know, that's what it's called, I think they're called tablespoons anyway, every time I hear a tablespoon, I think make a margarita scoop, make a tablespoon, a tablespoon, it's okay anyway and then. that I put some carrots on top, all you have to do is wait for the putty to dry once it's dry, you want to at least wait 24 hours, go ahead and take a pair of scissors and cut out the plate that you put this on. and then voila, you don't necessarily have to use a plate to do this, you can use the foam board from Dollar Tree, but I find it much easier to use a plate, how cute they turned out and they actually look good, I mean the carrots They look fake, obviously, but the rest look like I could eat this for our next DIY.
I'm going to use this magical Crayola model that I bought at Dollar Tree, it's white. and what I'm going to do is just mold them into a peep shape, you know, those marshmallows that to me are sometimes good, but rarely is one package enough to make a peep, I'm sure you could. Make two ducks from one package, but they would have to be on the smaller side. I also ended up making one of the little ducklings you could make. I'm just molding the clay again and I only used one piece. I made a more oval one. shape and then I took a small ball, spread it out and then made the head of the duck.
Now I'm going to paint these things for my pink bunny. I used apple barrel paint in pink as a base color and then tried to get the sugar look by stippling a darker pink on top of this, but it honestly didn't work. In the end I ended up painting over it again with the light pink. I'm sure there are other things you could use, I bet. They carry some type of fake sugar that you could use in this or you could probably use beads. I didn't have any of that on hand, so I just painted for the yellow peeps.
I did the same. I used a lighter yellow and then a darker yellow, but that didn't even end up showing the darker yellow after trying to stipple it, so yeah, it was another one. I just gave up and became solid. Yes, at that moment I realized that it is better to just paint it a solid color. color, so I only used light blue paint for the blue and I didn't use a darker one as well, then I took out some brown paint and painted the little faces that go on top of the petets, which are essentially little circles and that was it for the people , check this out, it cost me four dollars to make four of them and they turned out so cute my rose could use a little work, it looks a little like a cat but it's still so cool for only a dollar and then a little of paint, but most of you probably already have paint on hand and can mix colors to get what you need for our next DIY.
Let's make some ice cream. I've made ice cream before on this channel. I'll link the video below, but it was a Valentine's Day video. I want to go ahead and change it up a little bit for Easter, so again I'm using my putty and then you'll want to decide what colors you want. For the ice cream, I want a strawberry color and then vanilla, so for the strawberry I'm using apple barrel paint in light pink. I go ahead and mix that into the putty until I get a nice color and consistency that I like. I've tried a ton of different putties, not just dollar tree putty, but dollar tree putty is actually my favorite putty for making ice cream, so once I have the strawberry color, I go ahead and whip out some chunks, you only get one ice cream scoop. and you want one that has that little thing that slides the ice cream out versus one where you have to use your finger, you want the one that has a slight little thing.
I bought mine at Walmart and you just create a bunch of little scoops of ice cream. For the vanilla ice cream, I'm using apple barrel paint in warm beige. I ended up having to add some white paint too because that color was a little too dark for me, it looked more like a mocha type ice cream color, so I ended up adding a little more white, so I got something that looked like a little more vanilla and then I move on, using my ice cream scoop to create more scoops of ice cream. Next, I got this magical Crayola model from Dollar Tree. essentially like a kind of air dry clay, it's white, they had it in white, black, red, blue and yellow.
Now what I'm doing is I'm taking my piece and I used a rolling pin to roll it out and I'm just going to Create Ear Shapes, so I want them to look like sugar cookies. The sugar cookies you buy at the supermarket are so sweet. I don't know if you like them, if so let me know in the comments below. I personally hate them. What I do is I take my scissors and cut out the shape of a bunny ear and I do this twice for each ice cream. I made the thickness pretty close to the thickness of those cookies, not that thick but pretty close.
I didn't want to make anything too thin, the reason is that I'm going to use some cute tips that I'm going to push into each ear so I can then attach them to my ice cream. Now you want to do this. when the ice cream you made is still slightly wet and not completely dry because if it's completely dry you won't be able to push the ears through the putty you can always glue the ears on if you want to go that route so I have My Dollar Tree Q-tips I take two ears and I push them together a little bit and then I take my swabs and I run them through the ear, so I put half of the swab through the ear. and then half is still outside and with those halves that's what I use to glue inside my putty, then I put some putty on the bunny ears, I use the light pink putty mixture that I made for the strawberry looking ice cream on. the white bunny ears and then on top of the pink bunny ears I used that vanilla type mix that I made, then I took the bunny ears and put them in the ice cream, the clay will not harden when you do this This is so you just want to hold Lightly the clay so I don't end up ruining things and just messing up the ears or pushing in too much where you make a mark with your finger on some of my ice cream scoops.
I made a hot fudge. Look, all you need is a mod podge with a glossy finish and then some paint. I'm using apple barrel paint on a chocolate bar. I mix the two inside a sandwich bag and then simply cut a hole in the bag tosandwiches and just sprinkle. that hot fudge mixture on top of my ice cream on top of some ice cream I also decided to make sprinkles. I'm using real sprinkles, they are rainbow sprinkles that I got from Dollar Tree like I said in the previous DIY. If you use real sprinkles, you will see bleeding and what that means is that some of the color could end up spreading onto your ice cream.
It wasn't so bad for me because all the sprinkles I applied just stayed on top of the hot. fudge so it doesn't bleed too much. I always get tips and suggestions on different things you can wear and I get a lot of bead suggestions and eventually you'll see me wear them, but the beads just don't look the same as the sparkles. You can also make your own sprinkles using polymer clay. It just takes a long time, so there are a lot of them. Sometimes I just go the route of using real sprinkles. They have fake sparkles on Amazon, but I feel like they are expensive.
You get very little for what you pay for and I bought them before. They are very, very small. Now it's a small bag. I wanted to make some ice cream cones for this so you can buy some fake food from Dollar Tree in the kits section and in that fake food there are two ice cream cones. I decided to paint my ice cream cones because I didn't like them very much. For the color of them, I was using an apple barrel paint called khaki and then I also used one called classic caramel. I know some people say caramel or caramel.
Let me know which one you say in the comments below. Once I painted them, I could just stick whatever ice cream I wanted on top of the ice cream cone. There is another way to make larger ice cream cones. You can get these little foam pieces from Dollar Tree. Honestly, to me, they look like trees. Cut it in half and then go ahead and take the part that tapers at the top and paint it. Now you can always cut the bottom off a little bit more, shave it a little more to have a pointier tip like a real ice cream cone, I didn't want to do that because I want the leads to be able to hold up.
If I had made the bottom too pointy it would fall off so I went ahead and painted this and then took my hot glue. gun and I actually used it to create the lines that are inside an ice cream cone. This is much easier to do when the thing is directly in front of your face because there is a camera blocking me, I can't necessarily see everything as clearly. So I'm doing things from afar at a fun angle to make it easier for you to get nicer lines than me because you probably won't film yourself doing this after it's got the glue and it's dry.
I went ahead and painted over the glue and then glued on my ice cream. I want to try this in the future by taking some putty and putting it where the ice cream and cone to hide the gap there, maybe I'll make a video. To make in the future, but I still

love

the way they turned out, they are so adorable and like I said, you will have an easier time making these cones because you won't have a camera blocking you while making them for our next DIY. I'm going to use that magic Crayola model clay again in the white color.
I prefer to use white over the others. The others, their colors like yellow, red and blue, are very, very vibrant. What I do is I take two packages of clay and I just go ahead and flatten them out, then I take my rolling pin and I roll it out and I'm going to use this clay like I would fondant for cake. I keep rolling until I get a nice thin layer and I'm I'm going to put that on top of one of these floral foam pieces from Dollar Tree. It is a rounded piece of foam and tapers at the top.
I take my foam, I place it down and then I take the clay and I place it on top of the foam. then I use my hands to form the clay around the foam piece so it's basically like a fondant looking cake like I said and then I just cut off the excess clay with my scissors. I waited three days for my clay to completely dry it and then paint it, so one of my little cakes I'm making I painted with Apple Barrel gloss paint. I had to mix two colors to get the color I wanted, so one of them was called blush pink and then the other. just white I mixed them until I got a pink color that I liked and then I painted the clay after the paint dries it's time to decorate so I put some putty inside a bag and then I go ahead and just create designs different on On the top of my cake now the tip I'm using is called a 105 tip and it's from Wilson and I was trying to see if there's a real name for this but no it's just a number and I like it if you find it on a different brand, uh. it's still going to be like 105 tip so sorry there's no exact name for it it's just a 105 tip.
Let's talk about putty real quick when you buy it sometimes it's dry and crumbly and it tells you on the back that add water to make it more wet, the paint does that for you, the more paint you add the looser the putty will become and can sometimes make it a little runny, if that happens you can harden it by using baking soda sometimes. that doesn't work for me and sometimes it does, it depends more on the type of putty brand I'm using if baking soda will work for me or not. I decided to create some little leaves, so to do this I take my putty. and I mixed up some green paint and then I was going to make some flowers, so to do that I just mixed that light pink paint that you guys see me use all the time with some putty and then I put both inside piping bags. first ice on some leaves I used a tip called a 150 tip but you know what you guys I don't even know if that's the tip you want to use it's just the one I had on hand to do this which was clean so that's what I used and then I used that 105 tip to make my little flower.
I was watching a video on how to make petals with icing and they say you want to use like tip 125 and tip 101, there are different ones but it's just nice. It looks like a teardrop to create petals, so if you want to get it, you can go ahead and understand it. I just didn't have that on hand. Next I used some puff paint from Dollar Tree just to create some designs because I can. To get so much detail with the putty, I don't know how, I don't know how it's done at all, so to really get some detail, it looks like a different type of frosting, I went ahead and just used a little bit of puff paint and it was the paint. white one from Dollar Tree and I was just doing random designs, mostly dots, because I didn't know what to do and I still think it turned out really delicate and pretty.
I really

love

this and want to do more. but I want to make them small, I want to make one that's a little bigger, it's so cute I wanted to make a mint colored cake so I bought the apple barrel paint in white, royal green and light blue and then mixed those colors together. To get a color that I like, it was like a mint teal color. Honestly, if you can buy a mint color or a teal color that's already bright, you can go ahead and do it. I couldn't find anything I liked so I ended up buying different. colors to mix something that I wanted I used the same icing tips to decorate this cake as well as the same icing colors as the light green and light pink and then I also used the puff paint to decorate this one.
I did the design a little. a little different on this, but I mean they are still very similar, they came out adorable like, oh my gosh, guys, doesn't it look so delicate and beautiful? I love the way they came out and they were very inexpensive to make when I was a kid. I would love to play with something like this, oh my gosh I would have loved to have tea with my dolls with these little things they are so adorable. Next DIY we will use putty again. I honestly think putty is used to make any and all fake desserts.
It's very easy to use, so with one of my batches I'm going to mix some light blue paint with putty to create a light blue putty. I then use some light pink inside another batch of putty to create some light pink putty. And now that? I'm going to do something this time that's different for my mug topper. I'm going to make one that has two colors in my piping bag. I put half of my roses back to the side and then half of the blue putty. and I put them next to each other and then I go ahead and squish it to the bottom of the piping bag.
Every time you make one of these faux whipped cream toppers, you need something under the putty to hold everything together so the putty doesn't just collapse on itself, so I'm using these Styrofoam half balls I bought at Hobby lobby. They were originally 4.99, but I used the 40 off coupon. I know they're getting rid of that coupon soon and that sucks, you can always do that. Get one of the larger Styrofoam balls that Dollar Tree carries and cut it in half if you want, but you'll get more bang for your buck by going somewhere else and just getting the packages of Styrofoam balls already cut in half and larger than What you'll get from Dollar Tree when you make fake whipped cream.
I recommend using a larger icing tip, not one of the small ones, the one you get from Dollar Tree works great, it's on the larger side compared to the small ones. You just saw me using it, so this is one of those larger star tip ones. I usually have no idea what I'm doing in terms of design. When I do something, I just follow it and fix it as I go. This is over. It looks like some kind of fake gender reveal whipped cream. Okay, to decorate this, I'm going to use these bunny tree erasers. I just stick them inside the putty.
You want to do it while it is still wet and not dry. I wanted to use it. just dollar tree products to decorate at least one of my faux whipped cream ornaments. The next dollar tree product I used was fake foam carrots. I went ahead and cut them up and placed them on top of the whipped cream, so it's supposed to. To be like the cherry on top except it's carrots, I ended up making three of those total and then for the sprinkles I used the glitter vase fillers, took the smaller face fillers that are in that package and used them to The sparks.
You could use the dollar tree sprinkles in this, but you'll probably see the bleeding because the color of the whipped cream is so light. I'm going to show you how I decorated some of my other faux whipped cream decorations for Easter, so this one. I'm just making pink for my frosting color to decorate this. I'm going to start off using these little eggs that are from Hobby lobby originally 2.99 I paid a dollar and 50 cents for them and I'm going ahead and just pushing. that inside my whipped cream so I'm going to use these bunnies that I bought, they're actually bunny stickers from Hobby lobby.
They were originally $3.99 and I paid about two dollars and 40 cents for them. They are 40 off now, but I know there will be 50 off this ornament very soon. I'll be using the string beads I got from the hobby lobby for half price. Now it cost me three dollars. Usually when I put real sprinkles on top of the putty, it will stick to the putty. not all but a good amount of them will stick just by sprinkling them directly on the beads they won't stick at all so I had to put them all one by one inside the whipped cream and then topped it off with one of the little ice creams I made , I took them and crushed them right on the top.
I have two more types of ideas for you. I wanted to make one that looked really sweet so I used my pink putty to make a pink one. I then ended up trying to use some beads on this as my sprinkles didn't stick at all and since they were so small I wasn't going to sit there trying to push that into the putty otherwise I would have ended up with a lot of finger prints inside, so no, I didn't do that, what I did do was buy some fake strawberries at Hobby lobby. They cost me two dollars and fifty cents.
I simply cut two of them and pushed them into my whipped cream, then sprayed some brown paint on top of my whipped cream. Now I recommend mixing your paint with mod podge of the glossy type because it always keeps that shine if you do it that way instead of just spraying the paint on it will dry to a more matte finish. I only did it this way because I didn't have time to mix the paint with the mod podge. Next, I purchased these little bunny buttons from Joann. The fabrics originally cost 3.99 but with a 50 off coupon I paid two dollars for these.
I just go ahead and push them into the putty and then I ended up adding some of those beads that I just showed you, just putting them in one. for one and I really like this one, I like the ones that look sweeter with the chocolate and strawberries. Such a cute final idea that I'll show you. I just made a normal white ornament and this time to decorate it. I'm going to use these little miniature pieces that I got from Amazon. I'll try to remember to link them below for you. Comes with a pack of 35 small miniatures.
There are bunnies, ducklings, chickens, two small ones like birds' nests and then small ones. eggs, I simply decorated it with the ducklings, one of the nests and the bunnies and finally ended up gluing the eggs to the nest. Sorry the lighting is a little darker here, it just dependsof when I have time to film. so if I have time to film when it's sunny I'll use it even if it's a little darker because the sun is some of the fake whipped cream I made on top of the plates and another one I made on parchment paper depending on how you do it if you make on a paper plate, a foam plate, a foam board, you go ahead and cut off the excess material after the speck has dried.
That's it for these faux whipped cream ornaments I've made them before in the past, but I wanted to adapt them for the Easter season and give you some dollar tree options and some other options and just ideas on how to decorate it. It's very cute and one of my favorite things to do. That's it for these adorable Easter DIYs, I hope you guys. I enjoyed the video if you gave it the thumbs up like I said, I'll see you next time, take care, bye.
