Jun 28, 2024
The foreigner just finished 11 days in Brooks. We have been planning this

hunt

for about a year and a half. Some things fell into place and we had a unique opportunity to explore a new river, pioneering the river we knew there would be. Logistics that was unforeseen and mid to late September in Brooks we knew the weather could be an issue so we were preparing for a wild

hunt

. We definitely got everything we asked for in the wild, but it was a remote river that was difficult to access, we had to drop in. on a lake and we crawled about six miles to get into the river system and we had a pretty long float to get to the pick up point here but it's a really wild adventure and here's our story thank you foreigner foreigner Seven Mile Death March foreigner foreigner early tomorrow easy and tomorrow it's quite cold here last night it got very cold of course so everything froze a little I don't know if I'm breaking sticks or counting, but I woke up, I woke up in the middle of the night. to see the northern lights around 2am. m., well it's cold so we slept in occasionally we were going to sleep in and just recover from the drag and float down the river a bit to fight a nicer cat, probably walk until we stopped waiting for the tent. and it had a nice warm hole outside.

A great start to the trip was it was a young bull, smaller bowl but yeah I hope that's a good sign there must be some old guys here too like foreigners floating around just to get through the braided section of the river in case of our waters went down and stuff and we crossed a nice bowl track that looks like a decent sized bowl, it's hard to say but you can tell a good impression, the sand looks like it was earlier this morning so we pulled down the River , we set up camp a little bit and we're going to spend the afternoon trying to find this guy here by calling him to see if we can take something to the river.

Thanks, let's go to foreigner, foreigner or like 200 yards down 50. Yard shot and I put it right in the park and I turned, I turned faster. Bowl down, he tried to surround us. I miscalculated. I thought I was. I set it at 50, but it went around some trees and into the creek. I hit it a little low, but it ended up in the heart, it ran out in the Stream and I tracked it 65 yards, I hit it and it shot right here behind the camp, you probably have to move our beautiful bead, I just, I don't know, but literally like 10 yards. just loading this camp we're going to work down the river to a new camp about four or five miles away from this car keep it loaded with all the meat and packing that cap foreigner thank you foreigner foreigner last night and last night and I tried to get on and I thought who could be sleeping behind the camp.

I answer calls in the morning, but last night they got nasty, we had to go out in the middle of the night and tie the route to the tipi without the stakes. we were getting out of the ground it's windy it's been raining steadily all morning we went out there this morning and set up the call just to see if that pool was hidden here and it got a little wet and cold after about an hour we hid it I came back and got some messages about the reach of the pilots and the wives that there's a big storm here, so we go read and they eat our Mountain House, drink coffee and wait for it to end, oh man, the river got to a foot almost lost. my meat had to relocate it a couple of things around the cab with the pilot and he said it's a 50 year storm, it's just west of Austin, we're not taking any chances with the flooding, we were getting pretty nervous so it was the 10 o'clock.

I don't know, at 10 at night I actually went up to this floor I found this four foot elevation from the river I set up camp everything is wet we had a bag of wood that we can put in a dry bag let's see how Well, we're here praying for let the stove work and let us warm up and return to the sleeping bag. Life in the store is good, better safe than sorry, although I had the second fire on the second day and attended all day, the river is still high, but the rain seems to have lessened and the winds are supposed to die down this night, it hurts us to sit on the stent we are going to put in tomorrow morning, we are carrying it and even if we have to pick it slowly, we just have to work our way up and separate. increase the speed to maximum and see if we can navigate this part of the Canyon and get into a river that is a little bigger and wider, a little easier to float and see if we can continue studying the elk during our last few days and not get stuck in a tent waiting. because inevitably it has been a long road it has been a long wait at least you have the stove second fire of the trip here our bag of clubs is running out very well three days until it started to rain last night it is cloudy and foggy but it will rain all night the river It's gone down slightly and it seems to be going down at a decent pace so let's take our chances this morning we're loaded we're sick of this count we're going to try to pick our way downstream to get out of this Canyon a little bit and hunt our way down the river the river is so high there are no camping gravel bars to make a makeshift taxi here in a bit, it's crazy, there seems to be a lot of

moose

in this area, but actually it was still furious, it was a little dangerous. near here foreigner hey that's not exactly what we're looking for it's foreigner today foreigner yeah I had like 50 15 yards bro and I smoked it again behind the tree okay we go back to this Oxbow and there's a lot of signs on the I already knew that There was a construction here.
We started making our way from the side of the Oxbow and he started right here. The sticks broke and he growled at us, so we stopped. We prepare a call. We shot him at 15 yards. A pretty epic experience. He died in Water is unfortunate, but now the work begins. We just finished a long afternoon. We lower all the flags. I'm going to chew it all. There is a small subchannel with super high water so we can drag the. raft to the bottom, I got all the meat and we dragged it back upstream to the main river channel, so maybe a couple hundred yards from our camp here we left the raft and all the meat covered with a tarp so that whoever's down an inch and a half today it's raining a little bit right now, although I'm sorry I have to take care of some meat and stuff and hopefully the river goes down and we're all tagged in and we're going to try to shoot this river and just achieve it. of this Canyon safely and get to the pick up point soon here we still have about 45 miles to float out of here maybe 50. but the movement of the water shouldn't take us long okay we are here in Safe Harbor our little camp we're going to tackle the river it's down about six inches we're loaded with two elk in our entire camp we've got the next two miles it's the hairiest part of the river so we've been eating up our minds but we're going to make our way through this and we should sail smoothly another 40 miles to the pick up point, probably two days float, there is our port on the river with no rapids, it's a little bigger than we thought.
We will try to paddle this first one and there is a bit of slack water between the next one. If we can get to the shore, we'll try to walk a little bit there, but once we get over this, they get easier as they go, but this. It's a little more than we expected, the good thing is that the water reached about six inches, that's why we are waiting so long for the water to go down, not whitewater rafting, the Uncharted River too, come on, I I will apply directly, oh dear. We are alive, we still have meat and balls on a raft.
The alibi has a palette or a half-foot palette left. Well, we did it. We put some rapids on a couple's heads, but hallelujah, let's stop and take out all the meat. let it dry and have some lunch and just put some hand warmers on my gloves and my mittens and all my toes and whoops! and then we'll float as much as we can, okay, thank you, thank you, a little more. rowing than I thought we got here a little late the gravel bar where they were supposed to pick us up is flooded the water is up to our knees so change of plans I think our original pilot with the seaplanes will come to pick us up tomorrow breaking We lower the rafts, we hang the meat, we set up the TP.
Hopefully it will be our last night here, but today we got tired and floated for two days in a row.
