Feb 27, 2020
hello everyone and welcome back to insider tech with the recent launch of the second generation

airpods

, the long-awaited successor to the world's most popular true wireless earbuds is finally here the new

airpods

are not quite the airport ones, such Once we expected it offers only a handful of minor improvements over the previous generation, in particular the introduction of wireless charging, so in this video we will see everything new about the latest airpods, what has changed compared to the previous generation and Of course, yes or no. worth updating, let's take a look to make this effect

I have a brand new pair of new and

hair bottles here, as you can see there is not much separating the two on the outside of the box and the same applies to the inside too as both airports are packaged identically. The first thing you'll see is the included documentation, then we have the airports in their charging cases below, and finally the USB to Lightning charging cables at the bottom. First, on to the charging cases, there are a few changes that set these two apart. The first is that the case's LED battery indicator has been moved from the inside of the case to the front, which is really where it should have been in the first place, but the idea here is to let you know when your airports are charging without having to open the case.

The second is that the bluetooth pairing button has been moved to the center, as airports can pair automatically, this is something iOS users will probably never have to worry about. about, but if you're going to pay your airport to an Android device, you'll need this button to enter pairing mode. The final changes are that the hinge now has a matte finish instead of a glossy one, which I think doesn't look as good. like the

air pods but no longer a fingerprint magnet, the hinge itself also feels a little sturdier with the new air pots with less lateral movement on the lid so it should be more durable in the long run term, but both cases still open and close with satisfactory precision as the magnets are well balanced to keep the lid secure.

Aside from these changes, the two charging cases have the same glossy white finish and almost identical dimensions and weight as their own. Air containers are also held securely in place with magnets which not only helps guide the airports into position when placing them back in the case, but also prevents them from falling out. Secure magnets for true wireless earbuds. For me, they are essential. They create a clear distinction when placing or removing the earbuds from the charging case. which means the auto sleep/wake function works always, so this is really very important, there is no visible difference between new and old airport design, so if you didn't like the old design or if you don't they stayed in your If the new generation will also not be good for those who are new to Air Pods, the design remains the same as in the airports that come with every iPhone only with a slightly longer and thicker stem and of course, Completely wireless, double tap needed.

It is still used as the only gesture available for a limited number of commands such as play pause and skip tracks, but there is still no way to adjust the volume on the air pots, unfortunately the touchpad is still as unreliable as on the air pots originals and I still needed to tap with an unnatural firmness to trigger a response, something I hoped would improve with the new generation, but at least the chance of accidentally pressing is very low once you adjust to the required pressure, although the commands They are quite fast and responsive and, fortunately, touch. on the earbuds doesn't create that loud loud sound as seen on other cordless phones, the auto pause and play when removing either earbud is also as reliable as ever and has perhaps the best performance of any true wireless earbuds with this feature, especially for long periods.
During a period of time where I found that the performance of these features had deteriorated in some of the competitors, the airport design is quite unique in that the earpiece does not sit inside the ear canal as is the case with most of true wireless earbuds, which has advantages and disadvantages. Earbuds tend to be more comfortable if they sit effortlessly in your ears rather than pushed into your ear canal, and I personally find the Airports to be one of, if not the most comfortable, true wireless earbuds I've ever used, for this reason. reason, certainly after using them for extended periods of time.
Weighing just 4 grams each, it's easy to forget about airports or your home after a short time of listening. It's also quick and convenient to simply slide the AirPods into your ears and get the fit right the first time without having to fiddle with them. This also means that the optimal position for sound quality can be reached very quickly, while with most true wireless earbuds it is imperative to find the perfect fit to achieve the best sound quality, especially when it comes to bass. , with airpods the sound quality is not affected. by changes in its position with your movement, while the slightest movement with some of the atypical silicon phones can make the air fly but break the airtight seal compromising the audio quality.
This design choice defines the Airport's greatest strengths, but also its greatest weakness: The downside to the design is that you don't get the same level of noise isolation as you would with headphones that sit inside the ear canal, which also means that sound leakage is a major problem; This makes the Airport more suitable for indoor use or in quiet environments, as there is no way to isolate the audio from external noise in noisy environments and I certainly noticed that depth and bass were lacking when used outdoors in crowded places. Lack of bass is a common complaint with true wireless earbuds and a big part of this comes down to how secure the fit is inside your ear, which can make the difference between mediocre, even tinny sound, or deep, full-bodied bass.
Airports do not sit inside the ear canal or form an airtight seal, so there is no way to achieve this isolation or improve audio quality by varying position without that airtight seal. It is also possible that airports will go down. It's a common complaint among Stare Pot users. The new Air Pods are still only available in one size and a hipster redesigned silica interior was tall. at my airports, they list how well they fit will of course come down to the shape of your ear. Some people can even run and exercise with their airports personally. I could never rely on my airports to stay in my ears without moving and so I couldn't wear them while running, but due to their less intrusive and more comfortable design, they were my preferred choice when it came to occasional listening at my desk.
No official statements have been released regarding the water resistance of airports, which is an area where they are still lacking against the competition, but given that the tables have featured heavily in advertisements of people exercising, it's pretty safe to assume they are. sweat-proof, especially since the disassemblies are shown to have been designed to allow the passage of air but not water. Recent teardowns of the new AirPods have also shown a thicker hydrophobic layer over the circuit board, so the new AirPods will be more likely to survive an accidental trip through the washing machine, but as with the latest AirPods I would recommend avoiding exposure to water where possible, while the external design remains the same, a number of internal improvements have been made with the new airports, the first of which is the new h1 chip which replaces the w1 chip. of the original model.
The new chip brings hands-free, hey Siri, to the airport, which was previously only available by tapping the air buttons in my tests, the response time from hey Siri has been really good, the microphones picked up the command even when speaking in voice very low, but they struggled in noisy environments for those who use Siri often with their In airports, the Hey Siri feature will be a welcome addition, especially since it frees up the double-tap command to be something more. The H1 ship also provides a faster and more stable connection to the AirPods, which is evident in faster pairing with devices, but especially in switching between devices which Apple says can be up to two terms faster, which seems correct according to my tests.
Simply switching between Apple devices remains by far my favorite feature of the airport, but only those invested in the Apple ecosystem will be able to take advantage. Of all the faults of their pods, if you own an Apple Watch, iPad or iMac, they are still the best true wireless earbuds for these devices for this feature alone, the h1 chip also allows phone calls to connect up to one and a half times longer. fast. and are now more efficient to provide longer talk time. Call quality is still pretty decent, although above average for true wireless earbuds thanks to the elongated stem, but airports still pick up a good amount of ambient noise.
The new chip also brings Bluetooth v to the new airports to bolster the typically reliable connectivity tests at both airports for their Bluetooth range. The new one performed slightly better in the line-of-sight test offering a ridiculous 366 feet from my tennis max before dropouts started occurring. In fact, I managed to get much further with both potentiometers when my back is to my phone, perhaps indicating that the Bluetooth receiver is located on the back of the headphones, but it's important to remember that the line-of-sight test is only useful to serve as an indicator of relative wireless performance. It's the situation where being separated from your phone with a completely clear line of sight to your headphones is quite unlikely, so expect a much shorter bluetooth distance in real world use and certainly much poorer performance. when you use them on Android.
Connection stability on the new Air Pods was generally a little better than the originals, often maintaining the connection in clogged environments where the old Air Pods couldn't, so stability definitely seems to have improved. Latency is also noticeably better with the new Air Pods with Apple claiming up to a 30% improvement while gaming - this has always been a strong point of the air pods compared to many other truly wireless earbuds and the air pods were one of the few air phones with low enough latency for watching videos, but where there was increasing improvement. a slight audio delay with the old airpods, the new airpods eliminate this completely and the audio was much more in sync with the video, so if gaming or watching movies is important to you, the new airpods are definitely the way Moving on, one of the most frequently asked questions about the new air pots is whether the sound quality has been improved and the short answer is no.
There have been some minor internal changes, such as the material surrounding the drivers, so there is a possibility of different or even better audio quality. and some users have already reported improvements in hearing, but Apple themselves have since stated that there has been no change in audio quality and, from my testing, this appears to be the case for those who are not familiar with the company's signature. Airport Sound: It's essentially a slightly richer version of air. Pods with enhanced bass. In fact, I'd say the bass is pretty decent, it's just harder to appreciate this due to the lack of noise isolation.
The mids are smooth and well detailed and the vocals are natural and clear, but the highs are quite soft. refinement that would really make the audio shine, however this meant that the audio was never harsh or piercing. Overall, the airports offer decent sound quality that benefits from not being overly boosted, but for many people, competitors like the jabberin lead 65 t will leave you wanting. More here, of course, the airports most notable new feature is that the case can now be charged wirelessly from any Qi-compatible wireless charger, although I didn't expect that. Wireless charging on my smartphones has become a huge convenience and it's great to see that I can now charge my headphones wirelessly.
It's a steep price to pay the extra costs just to have this feature, but I hope the new iPhones later this year include some form of wireless chargingreverse to make this even more useful, similar to how Samsung uses its power quota. feature when it comes to battery life Apple has been pretty vague when it comes to the improvements made with the new air pods. Now claiming over 24 hours of battery life with the new charging case, they still claim up to five hours of listening on a single charge keeping the air ports at the industry-leading standard. You now have up to an extra hour of talk time thanks to improved phone call efficiency compared to the original Air Pods.
These gave me slightly longer battery life overall and on a single charge too. The Air Pods' fast charging feature remains unchanged with a 15-minute chart providing up to 3 hours of listening time, a useful feature that I use frequently. I don't think there's a significant enough improvement here to justify an upgrade based solely on battery life. but if you've had your air break for a while and are getting a couple of hours less battery life than before, upgrading to the new airpods would be a justified move if you're looking to pick up the new airports, they're available for the same price than the original Air Pods at £159 for the standard model, putting the Airports in the middle of the pack for flagship truly wireless earbuds.
For an extra £40, you can get the model with a wireless charging case, which is the only difference separating the two models. and pushes the new airpods into that higher priced air range. Apple is also selling just the wireless charging case on its own, £479, for those who want to upgrade their current AirPods to support wireless charging. Personally, I think this is a shakedown. Price to pay, especially since you wouldn't get any of the other upgrades that come with new airports, so I definitely wouldn't recommend doing this. The only reason I might think this would be a good option is if you somehow lost your charging case but kept the airpods, but I imagine if anything I'd lose an airport or two instead of the case, in As for deciding between the standard and wireless charging airpods, I would personally pay the extra cost to have wireless charging, but only because I prefer not to use cables and it suits my lifestyle better £40 is a lot of money for just one extra feature, so the best value lies in the standard charging in case you can't help but feel that the wireless charging model should be the original price of £159, although the standard model is a little cheaper, but that's Apple for you .
I have to admit that the cancellation of the long-awaited airpower has soured the launch of these new airports, especially since wireless charging is Apple's biggest new feature that has enabled millions. Having excited fans order their new airpods for a few days before canceling airpower is a pretty poor move on their part, so I definitely empathize with those who don't want to order the new airpods anymore, of course, I don't want to spoil it for them. The potential for enjoyment here is undeniable as airports are a great product, but Apple as a company has made some bad decisions recently and I think it's important to address this;
Overall, the improvements made with the new airports are certainly welcome, particularly the lower latency and the incorporation of wireless technology. charging those who would use their apples for phone calls frequently or who will use the Siri hands-free feature will undoubtedly benefit the most from upgrading to the new model, which is my iPod wish list, which remains largely unchanged, that is, better touch controls, guaranteed water resistance, and a canal earpiece designed for greater noise isolation and a more secure fit, problems that Apple hopes to solve with the recently announced power beats Pro, so if you're still unsure or has fitness users in mind, it might be a good idea to wait for the new ones The model is simply an upgrade to the original Air Pods and for this reason I don't think there's enough on offer here to warrant an upgrade to its Current Air Pods, unless of course you've had them for a while and their battery life has decreased. started to deteriorate if you're new to airports, although the new model would be a worthwhile purchase for those looking to enter the true wireless earbuds market, especially if you're looking for a pair for occasional listening.
Airports get a lot of hate, which I think is a little unfair considering they're a well-designed, decent pair of headphones that even offer a handful of best-in-class features, as long as you have an iPhone, exclusive features for iOS and a significant performance drop when using them on Android. It means there are much better options out there for audio files for non-iPhone users, especially you might want to look elsewhere where competitors like the elite 65 t offer a noise isolating alternative with much better audio quality at £199 for the wireless charging model the new one. The Air Pieces are one of the most expensive true wireless earbuds you can buy, but Fathil device users are still the best option available in

comparison

, although the acceptable Galaxy Birds wireless charger is available from just £129, but if this really whether or not it is equivalent to a better value.
Overall, I'll adequately address my next side-by-side comparison, but what do you think about the new airpods? Is there enough of an improvement here to justify an update?
