and try to not making the same mistakes twice this time we'll do high school

band

as usual just a reminder that we're following all the coveted best practices because just because we're friends doesn't mean we're immune i was in band in high school i had to keep my family name with clarinets because my mom and all her fucking sisters

drums but they told me i had to play clarinet basically i was in choir my whole life i dont know why i cant sing for the life of me my mom is a musical human being she played clarinet as first chair head of the marching band with the hat thing on the thingy so first we have to choose an instrument then we have to meet with a high school band instructor and have classes and then we have to learn the music and then we have to practice and then we have to do a performance for our friends as a little halftime show so now we had to choose our

instruments

we should have known in fifth grade when jasmine wanted to be a drummer that jasmine was going to be a lesbian too and now here i am a fully formed lesbian ready to play drums i think i want to play clarinet i want to follow in my mother's footsteps so we are really going to have a clarinet on drums making a song together.

My real goal this

week

is to learn that I'm not going to be a professional but I hope at least I can play a tune I don't know how I'm supposed to practice because my walls are so thin the clarinets are pretty loud maybe we'll go to an open field like this that we got our

instruments

in the mail here I am and here is my drum so I have my clarinet in this box let's open it up I have drumsticks oh it's all in pieces I guess that means I have to figure out how to put it together. just had to find out oh my god oh they are tools does this part hold the drum?

What should I call her? I wouldn't normally call her betty, but we normally have a dog named betty. my drum me and betty two so i called my mom she was first chair clarinet in high school the one in your left hand goes on top of this yeah she mentioned so many things i had no idea what they mattered she said she would make sure you are like sucking on your reed for a few minutes before playing your grass it has to be exactly this distance from the top it wasn't over my head how come you ended up with the clarinets instead of another thing i wanted because i wanted to impress them so we had our first band practice with a real life teacher all my students call me mr t and i will show you both how to play our own quarantine tune or what i like to call porn tune i'm excited mr t he was so sweet he was so sweet so happy he was one of those guys like you just know he's a good teacher i love this i love it it's so good when i first heard the song it terrified me it was so fast and i thought how i'm going to make my hands move so fast to start the percussion he laid out how i would like to hold my drumsticks and what the length should be when i stand up i was playing the drum backwards i thought it was like reversible you want to work so that the rebounds be consistent and that will give you a buzz and it will go down like this and you will have a couple of points where you will do it for two counts a long time i thought it was really very hard that i was trying to like reading this music i have a very good way of break it down and that's if you say cheeseburger walrus cheeseburger wow so he basically taught me not to like reading music because I wasn't going to remember it and he taught me to just hit like walrus cheeseburger the part that worries me is that role what i like to do is take the rule look off it to be a walrus cheeseburger fries i will memorize it much easier than the notes and he basically told me to practice the drum roll but if you can't do it the day of the presentation, just re-din in the meantime, I had to do everything correctly. the other end and you want to be careful not to crush the cane and I want you to make a face like you just ate a lemon and then what you're going to do is just put air in it wait why is nothing happened it took like 10 minutes just to do a sound on that damn instrument, it was so hard, that's good, there you go, it's a lot of breathing, yeah, you'll have to push the air out.

I thought the hardest part of a clarinet that. I was just getting my fingers right and memorizing where they don't belong like making a noise yeah you have to do two to make it sound like that the touch was so bad it's a bad tutor you're going to practice taking notes. practice while doing something else the longer you play the better so keep in mind to be patient stay relaxed and have fun thank you so much thank you so i just had my first class and i am officially terrified i am coming to somewhere i can make a sound oh boy my neighbors are going to hate me i got the music i dont know what this music says all i can remember is walrus cheeseburger walrus cheeseburger so my first practice was basically i was just trying to memorizing the cheeseburger walrus and trying to go as fast as he could. breathe how to use your nose on your diaphragm at the same time wait i think i did it let's see how long you can blow she made fun of me because my breathing was so bad it was like i could hold my breath in a keep in mind that for 45 seconds it's like I have to fill this whole thing with air to get it to make a very clear sound, which makes sense, so I can't just inflate it, you know what I mean?

Honestly, this is even harder. that i like working out or like a sport because it's like i don't even know how bad kids do it's so much dedication really all i've heard from everyone i've talked to say this is one of the instruments hardest to play just making a noise is the hardest part and i'm doing well i'm such a perfectionist i say this for every video i don't enjoy doing things i'm not good at yeah which is obvious i'm not good at it but It's like how do you get a nice special treat? I hope so.

I hate it. It's not perfect, but it's something. Also the clarinet produces so much slime, but not the clarinet. my clarinet to clean it and a lot of saliva fell off i'm trying to practice again i'm trying to get the tune right that was a little better i decided to take it by myself and do some exercise because that expands your lungs and i haven't been doing nothing but sitting in my room playing animal crossing. I'm going out for a run for the first time in maybe over a year. This is how deep I'm going to go to be good. this damn instrument at this point i memorized basically the whole song but it didn't sound right i can get the top part maybe if i go fast maybe they can't hear it's out of tune when there's jazz drumming ok that's all for today , the time came when Lindsay and I were ready to practice together, ready, putting on your little lipstick, cute, that's how I practice, I could grease the lace, wet my crown in my mouth, I can.

If I'm super one with the clarinet, there was something about coming together and hearing the song with the percussion that made me lose my temper. We are

. We played this marching band song wrong. We couldn't finish practice. It was all my fault. you can't get past the first one no yeah we practice for a good hour together i think we'll get better we'll have another practice i got to the point where i just have to show up and we have to show up like this so it's our last practice before our performance and since we haven't played in front of anyone, i invited kate to come see us and give us some critique, los angeles, this is for you, yes kate did one. one of those things where we finished the song and your parents would say okay i know that voice okay you have a speed yeah and you just go and lindsay goes slower than the song you gotta work together our pace was completely off yeah kate brought It strikes us that we're not playing this together it sounds like we're doing it for her to practice and be on time with you she has to slow down we'll go one two three four so I'm on one two three four it's ok during our last practice before our performance we finally came to the conclusion that it's ok maybe it's not a good idea to go as fast as the original but not as super slow either because when we played super slow it sounded like if we were playing a funeral march a funeral march i went home after that performance and tried to practice some more and almost cried because i was so mad it sounded horrible i have fun with this when i sound good and when i dont sound good i hate everything that I'm sorry if I just performed tomorrow and it sucks like all the work I've done doesn't make sense when it doesn't really make sense, it's like it's no good, but Lindsay is struggling a little bit just because she has to. how to memorize things and how to learn to play this instrument when she makes a mistake she likes to stop we're not playing Beyonce like nobody knows this song nobody knows if you're wrong I don't even know if you're wrong just keep going I have complete confidence in her.

I really think it will be fine. I think she's going to be a little nervous, but we both are. You know she should go tomorrow and try to amuse me and whatever happens. it's show day oh my gosh it was a stressful morning i was ready to perform lo and behold my fucking uniform wasn't delivered i wasn't stressing last night i wasn't stressing this morning and now i'm like where's my attire? We may have to make outfit changes. This is what we were supposed to be wearing when I got mine. The jazz didn't get hers, but we're in this together, so we ended up wearing all black.

Yeah I'm kinda sad we couldn't wear meaty jackets Yeah if we sound bad at least we'd look good It's less than a minute of acting how bad can it be? Well, never mind, it could be bad, so obviously, we couldn't have a full band concert because we're in quarantine right now, we're social distancing, so we decided to become a little traveling band and visit some of our friends, the principal elsa oh wow so we went around the back alley of the principal's apartment oh no I think he really enjoyed it it was funny he is dating joyce joycy he was breaking it maya started laughing yeah i just moved here and they go to be like kicking her out maya thought we needed a little work yeah one of the neighbors started clapping yeah thanks we love the support the drums are pretty over the top but uh lindsay your clarinet is kind of flat , she says it was really good, i enjoyed that jazz, she's a drummer, uh-oh uh- oh, i was disappointed in my sound in my performance through it all, but as long as we made them happy we gave them a good show, we looked cute , we did our best really in the end but not least yes our band teacher the time is here we are about to call the band instructor im ready for honestly this ends with lindsay freaking out for a lecture It doesn't sound good we've been playing all day no one has paid us how come on hey yeah i like it it was not perfect but i was impressed.
