A tour of my garage workshop office

May 02, 2020
It's 2020 and the last time we did a

tour

of the store was in 2019 and that was the Shack hack in the old house, so since we just finished this project where we redid half the store, I'll show you what I like it. what I don't like what we're going to change and basically the state of the shop in 2020 so this is the original shop area that we built the bike shop in and that's what it is after all it's a place to work on bikes and I do bike tricks, the bikes that I ride regularly, they all go there, the bikes that are in the bullpen, so to speak, go to these stands here recently I worked a little on the heart, beer and I have I've actually been riding this more, so it's here on the stand.

I'm sure you've already looked around and said, "Wow, this is the most organized person in the world." Yes, the camera equipment area is in rare shape, we just hoarded it. So much, so quickly, I made an effort to create some degree of organization here. If you look under all this junk, there is a nice charging station. We have Sony batteries. The GoPro battery is Panasonic battery. We have that name. It won't be talked about here if I say that it can activate all your smart speakers. This is a work in progress right here, so let's move on to the new addition to the store, so first of all, you may have seen this pencil sharpener.

More Interesting Facts About,

a tour of my garage workshop office...

This was going to be it. like a hero shot for the video because everyone remembers these from elementary school if you're my age. I saw that it has holes for different sized pencils in here, so I was like, oh hell yeah, I can actually sharpen woodworking pencils. Any bigger one doesn't fit in there so you all are thinking oh maybe they just drilled a bigger hole so I took this off, yeah it's just the waist it's useless it kind of bothers me a little Kevin. he painted the whole damn bench here during the wheel video. I could have put something.

I could have done it. I don't know, he made some kind of effort not to overspray my bench, but yeah, then he made some effort to sand it. and we know how it worked dramas, well, get off, go, so let's start at the end, here we have the circular saw or the miter saw, this has always been folded and put in the corner and it's just It's been something that takes up space, now can be set semi-permanently here. The nice thing about this is that it actually runs on batteries. When I first bought it, I used like the little Ryobi drill batteries and it was like this damn thing sucked, like it could barely get through a 2x4.

Now I have these big old 6 amp hour batteries and they work great. I can use this for multiple projects with 6 amp hour batteries and there is no problem. drag it outside. I don't have to worry about cables. This is one of my favorite Ryobi tools. Let's look at some Ryobi tools that I don't like. This thing is an unimaginable piece of garbage. I can't even express how bad it is. of a sander, you can't see anything with it, but I should throw it in the trash right now, besides the fact that I would feel bad about it.
I have considered giving it to a friend, but I would give it to them. They a tool that is completely useless this drill has been smoking lately I don't know how much life it has that's a normal thing for Rio to be the impact driver I really can't complain it's not particularly refined but it's done its job it's giving I have years of service. I really love this circular saw. This is another one where you really have to put a bigger battery in it. It would do 3 amp hours or more. It can go through anything. I cut black lobster with this.
This thing is really not like that. Bad, I put all these wood panels in with it, sometimes it doesn't go in all the way in, it's very convenient, you have to make sure you press against it, so maybe I would give this a C+ or B minus, so for tools other than Ryobi . this Milwaukee heat gun has been amazing, it's been amazing, if you don't have a heat gun it's not the same as a hair dryer, this thing will burn your hand, change, you put your hand in front of it a while ago . on some cheap Black & Decker tools like this mouse sander, this thing has really been great, it was like it was 1999 or something and it's been fine, I have a little dust collection thing here and you can see it really works , so here we have the desktop drawing area type.
I put this little faucet light here and tilted it towards the work surface so I would have a little bit of light if I needed to do all my touch-ups and stuff, here in this drawer we have things to measure and draw. so I have my graph paper, my calipers, so the sander I plugged it in when I needed it before now it actually has a place where she lives. I purposely put this closest to the door here because it creates the most dust, it's a sander, oh and the drill press, we haven't gotten around to using it yet, but I have a project in mind because all the benefit of a drill pillar is that you can be much more precise than a drill if you hold it. a drill you're trying to keep it straight you're trying to aim it correctly you're trying to adjust the pressure with this you can put your work right here you can put a little build some really interesting things.
The only thing I did was disconnect the air supply so I had a blower here and an inflator. There I still have this little Makita air compressor that Brian from bkx II bought me as a gift and it has been one of the most useful tools I have, but I need all these outlets. Here we have the leftover wood to use. Honestly, a lot of these will be used to start fires, but the bigger pieces like this we can use for things, so whenever I need a small piece of wood instead of chopping it up, I can now reach for a big piece of wood. my scrap bin, which is cool, this is the table saw at the job site that I recessed into the work table so we had a little more surface area to rip.
You can get them for 200 dollars. It has a magnetic cover here because the side is you. Be pretty ugly. I have these little brackets here and a little screw on each one so these magnets touch and catch because the table saw is particularly good at handling dust through the dust port. I pretty much let my rigid vacuum live here always plugged in and ready to go, if I want to do a cut I can turn it on not even that hard and yes almost most of the dust ends up in the back of the shop which is great , so one of the new additions in the store addon were the stairs now, this is my first time building a legit staircase and I definitely could have done a little better.
This top step here takes you about an inch from the workbench, so I could have eliminated an entire step, if I had increased the height of each of these steps by a third of an inch, I could make that modification one day and make the top step a little bit bigger but I love having steps on my workbench if we're setting up we put cameras up to point at something we're working on we just go up here we can set up a tripod and we can put it up there because the workbench on It's actually five feet deep, that's really easy to do, there's plenty of room for it.
I'm pretty sure some killjoy is going to report me to my city's building inspector for not putting a railing next to this thing, meanwhile, it's not really a ladder, it's a bicycle drum, what are you doing, friend? Okay, he's going to pee, we should, we should listen to a drama about that, we learned our lesson last time he stands in the mulch and pees on the porch, a damn drama, so he talks in a drama, this is a drum, a place here, this chair you couldn't afford. him with treats to lay on that couch doesn't want to have anything to do with it, he just wants to be in this chair.
I knew we were going to need a seating area when I moved in because at the last store there were always people looking for places to sit because not only is it used as a store, but it's used as a studio to film things and collaborate with people, so we have the sofa, we have the drama chair and all my problems, a free hug, although here if you want. I've never looked at Freehub before. It's like National Geographic for mountain biking. That is exactly what it is. The images are the main attraction. They are the best quality images you can have basically about mountain biking.
This is the mothership. This is our editing station. and this is where I sit and edit and this is where Curtis, who is behind the camera, sits and edits, so while I edit the weekly bike tricks video, Curtis is editing the Burn Peak Express video and we can share ideas between us. I'm here, it's been fantastic. Curtis has been a very good addition to the team and having this extra space on the desk was always my plan, so in the IT department we don't use anything too special, we don't have professionals. level computers we don't have pro level speakers we don't have pro level anything we're using all the consumer level stuff because I don't think the pro stuff necessarily makes for a better video, it will be if you've reached the limits of the consumer stuff, but we certainly have it, we are editing in 4k.
I would say we are releasing very high quality material and this works for us, it doesn't slow us down. Both Curtis and I are using Final Cut Pro. You can only use Final Cut Pro on an Apple machine if it weren't for Final Cut Pro. I don't even know if I'd have an apple here. You can get a lot more for your money with a Windows computer. Many people. They want to start their own YouTube channel and they want our editing, so they asked me what they should get. I think if you're just starting out you should get DaVinci Resolve, it's free, it's really good, it's really stable and I think it's going to go from strength to strength. popular in the next few years, so if you're just starting out I'll probably learn it, so this is our coffee and snack station here.
The coffee station is very useful to me because I drink a lot of coffee and Kevin pretty much runs the snack station, so we're going to have to talk about the announce booth. All my voiceovers since I moved to burn irritated have been done down here and people say you really crawl down every time you do a voiceover oh yeah. I lift this up, I crawl under it and then I'm in my announce booth and there's no echo here at all, so there's tons of echo out there and it's super sweet in here, it's amazing. I have my condenser microphone right here.
I have it on an anti-vibration mount, everything is as it should be. I haven't done any modifications so the announce booth since I moved in so it's working perfectly, it's not broken, why fix it? It's ridiculous, but it works, man, a lot of people now. I've been asked why don't you put a door in the voiceover booth and you can use it to open the door and get in. It would not make sense? That's a good point, but if I put where I would put the door. so if I put the door here I couldn't have my desk right here if I put the door here we couldn't have Curtis at his desk if we put the door here we couldn't have this whole snack section and it works as a ladder to go up to the top , setting up cameras and stuff, yeah, I guess this equipment section sucks, so maybe I could put a door here, but once I upgrade it, we're going to want this whole equipment section, now some people have said, hey , why not?
You put a trap door at the top, which is actually harder for me. Remember I'm five foot four. It's pretty easy for me to go down and crawl down to get on this and then climb down like Bugs Bunny's hole, like in the announcer's booth. We're just, yeah, no better, this is a perfectly good solution for me. I don't have to worry about someone coming in and bothering me while I'm doing a voiceover. Nobody wants to come in here, so here we have the bug remover. I'm not going to explain too much why it's plugged into the outlet here and that this light is unplugged, it's a motion light that just can't be turned off, it drives me crazy, but let's take this bug zapper off and empty it now.
The reason I have this bug zapper here is because sometimes that leaves the

garage

doors open and all year round, even in the dead of winter, we have bugs in here, meaning stink bugs and moths, and at night, when all the lights are off this is the only light source in the store and it catches them all as you can see but it's been a while since I took it down and gave it a good clean let's see how this works we'll fertilize the fans of Muench angles, well, I have most of them. I can just get the rest of these guys out of here and be ready for another season, it should still go well.
I have a little surprise that I want to show you. I've never shown this on the channel, it's quite surprising how highthe roofs are in the

garage

you'd think that's it there's nothing on top there's something on top I'm going to grab this ladder Oh, watch out for landmines, okay, so that hatch goes above the roof that you guys are used to seeing the garage and what you'll see is there's actually a huge amount of space in there, like I climb this ladder, but I'm trying to find a safe way for you to do it, yeah, this is fine, as you can see.
I'm standing and there's room above my head, so even with that super high ceiling in the garage, there's all this damn space in this attic that I've considered doing like a firefighter laying down at the workbench opening the ceiling like in the future . This could be a really cool thing, like eventually having kids. This could be like a playground. We could do a floor here, I don't know, but it's exciting to think of all the possibilities of this place, so that's our store

tour

of 2020. I hope you enjoy it. I hope you enjoyed seeing what was up there if you haven't noticed.
