A 700HP Ford Explorer ST is the Ultimate Tuner Troll

Jun 06, 2024
It's not every day that I review a vehicle with a car seat in the back that works 10. When you think of fast SUVs, you probably think of the Jeep trackhawk or the Dodge Durango SRT, but the one that many people seem to overlook is the Explorer St 3L twint turbocharged 6 cylinder that has beaten trackhawks with just bolts, so how do you take this family SUV and run a 10 second mile? Let's talk about it, this is the

explorer

St. I've actually never driven a factory one and, uh, this one does a 700 right off the ramp. I'm just going to say this is pretty much the best example of what someone could do with screws and a few other things we'll get into, but the Explorer St is the closest thing I have.

What led to this is actually the police interceptor which has an EcoBoost engine, so the Explorer St has a 3 liter turbocharged V6 engine and they are already very excited, ironically it is the fastest in the St line of Of all the St cars Ford made bone stock, the Explorer was the fastest. I'll be honest, I thought the Explorer St had the 35 engine that you'd find in the F-150, the Raptor, even the 4D GT at an extreme level, the 3L is still a damn Beast because the EcoBoost has a ton of different iterations, you have everything from 23 to 27, 3 to 35, so sometimes it can be a little confusing, so you have this thing that was made to be a kind of INE meat medium of the need of everyone who wanted something performance oriented but they couldn't have a small car, the Explorer is a big car, it's a big vehicle.

More Interesting Facts About,

I know you're probably mad at me for saying SUV car. I get it, but it's a big vehicle. It's also a three road vehicle so if you think about a Dodge Durango SRT, something like that, it could compete with that or even the Trackhawk because the EcoBoost engine you know it's not going to sound like a Hellcat V8, but they're incredibly efficient with just a few screws. It can make tons of power, but with this one it has an e50 combination, it also has turbos, it has upgraded turbos, it has CRP Stage 5 turbos, which means you can run more boost, which means more power and with any 50 combination, that means more synchronization, which also means more power in this big car you're building with 700 wheels.

The really cool thing about this SD

explorer

is that it's true four wheel drive, it's not a 4x4 or anything, it's all wheel drive When you throw it on the track you're running a quarter mile in 10 seconds, which is really incredible. You might also notice that it's extremely rainy outside and very dangerous and slippery, but I actually just got out of my friend John's Trailblazer, which had AAA, which is the one online. Six that Chevy made and a lot of people now turbo it to make 500 horsepower at the wheels so I guess you could say we did an early version of this in some way okay so it was about 20% acceleration.

This thing wants to run like the SP turbos. It revs extremely fast, you can definitely tell these are really good upgraded turbos. I think the best thing about the EcoBoost platform is the torque you get, it's usually not about the horsepower most of the time you generate large amounts of torque when doing bolts. on the EcoBoost because traditionally with the 23, especially, you would know that going up to the 23 has a ton of lower torque CU, they use an 80-bit turbo the size you know in the palm of your hand and then it would just fall on its face up is because that a lot of people like the big turbo setups to make more top end power, but so does the Explorer St.
I actually really enjoy the interior, it has heated seats, it has Apple Carplay, it has all the humidity, the dash digital. It's really nice, the feel of the steering wheel is really comfortable to be honest, tons of space, tons of space, incredibly practical and when you lift the hood the engine looks small, I mean the intake system and everything is really cool but Other than that, it looks small. engine, there aren't many vehicles these days, you can get under $100,000 and essentially have a jack of all trades, you can literally do everything with this car, you can go racing, you can go to the mountains, you can do whatever you want with this thing and can do If this also has a transmission built in, it has 10 speeds, it's not the 10 r80 that's in the Mustang, but it's a 10r 60, so the 10r 60 is just the variant that they put in the Explorer, this one has a built in transmission just to be careful it makes sense that threaded shocks would be researched and developed on this car actually in BC but for now it's just been lowered a bit so the car is tuned by zfg racing and it also has a system of Nordstrom fuel, so the fuel pump injectors were updated.
It works, you have to do it to make that much power, but honestly so far I'm in sport mode, which is the most aggressive mode. I'm cruising and I'm in ninth gear. I was going to say six because naturally an Overdrive was like six but I'm in ninth gear, the big wheel and tire setup on this big tires too, I mean in every way, and as you hit every corner of the road, it It feels pretty good, but at the same time there are more tires. It means more grip, which means harder throws, which means more fun.
I like that it has paddles so I can control what gear I'm in. I know it sounds a little silly to point out that sometimes there are a lot of cars today that don't do this. I don't even give you any Mano control, even with an automatic, which is also really interesting is that it has a full exhaust system, but the car is still very quiet, okay, it was a fifth gear, fun fact, the shift lever changes, the little knob is the same. They have this on the GT500 I thought, I pointed it out, okay, then it started walking like a crab looking very good, you can tell the transmission.
I don't know, this sounds really cheesy, not that you can say the transmission is built, but it changes. aggressively at the same time, it grabs every corner of the road, so you have to be very attentive when you get on. It really likes auto mode, that's what I've really seen: you put it into gear. you want and it just does the job for you it's definitely really satisfying to drive like you already know what I'm going to the store. I'm going to run some errands and you just want to be silly, it's really good. like a jack of all trades be stupid once you get past 4th gear it rips your face off.
It's really interesting to see that it's not the lower gears that make the big impression, it's actually the higher gears that make the biggest impression and sound. like a normal car, you know, it doesn't even look like I think that's where my face probably changed on camera, was I was like oh oh, come on now, it's Rowdy, yeah, once it starts going past fifth gear, It's, it's, it's Rowdy. I think the car could use bigger brakes, but I think that's also in the works, but yes, it has bite, but you definitely feel the weight a lot when you hit the brakes when you stop after doing it. some fun stuff I think that's the only thing I want more I think I just want a little more braking power everything else I think the car is a lot of fun to drive this fast Third gear, it's fast Yeah, okay, very good. yes, it explores St with 700 horsepower and wow, it definitely makes all the horsepower it says it is fast.
I mean, I still say the back half is where this really shines. The bottom end is a lot of fun, because the torque hits you, the power hits you. That's all really cool, but once the car is running and starts to pick up that momentum, that's where it really shines as something that feels fast and the turbos are going, everything's fine. The maximum power is just heartbreaking, it's really a lot of fun, but not seriously. I enjoyed it, what do you guys think about the Explore St with 700 wheel horsepower? Leave it in the comments section below and I'll see you next time, take it easy, have a wonderful day, bye.
