5 Settings to change on your new Subaru!

Feb 27, 2020
What's up guys, Brennan Hancock here with another episode of uber groups today and today we're here in beautiful Boulder Colorado, we brought a 2019 Subaru Forester Sport and today we're going to take a look at the top five setups that I recommend swapping in

your

new vehicle Subaru, let's take a look, as I mentioned a moment ago, we're in a sporty 2019 Subaru Forester, although that's not very relevant to everything we're going to say here, many other Subaru vehicles are. We'll still have the same infotainment system, we'll still have these configurations that we're talking about, so for example, what we have here is the Starlin 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, so vehicles like For example, a premium and superior Ascent Impreza Outback, you know.

Sports and higher will have it limited. Crosstrek will have it, so many other cars will still have the same infotainment system for the most part. Everything we say here will be relevant to them and some of them. They don't even have the 8 inch screen, some of the smaller ones know that they can still have automatic headlights and even if they have a 6 inch screen, some of the things we will talk about will still be relevant so they are worth it to almost anyone. With a newer Subaru, I'm watching this video, so the first thing we're going to look at is here on the lower left control panel, you have a couple of buttons here to lift the tailgate turns off the traction control, but as far as we're really focusing on, here it's going to be this dimmer switch on the top right, so from the factory you're going to have these two points lined up and what that does is basically what it's going to do.

More Interesting Facts About,

5 settings to change on your new subaru...

We'll keep the brightness of all the lights here and things like that, not the headlights, but the infotainment system, and that will keep it at maximum brightness all the time for a lot of people you meet at night, that can be a little bit. problematic as long as you have the headlights set to auto and don't fiddle with the brightness setting on the infotainment system because the default brightness setting will be Auto if we take it just one level down from here what's going to happen? What it does is it keeps

your

infotainment system nice and bright during the day, but at night it will dim it a little bit, so I usually find it so that when the car's headlights come on, it's about 10 minutes later that the screen actually goes down because they come on at dusk, but this way it dims it a little bit, you know, the more you go down and stuff, it's still going to stay nice and bright during the day, but it dims it, you know, a lot more darkly and honestly.

I think anything below, I would say three notches from the two aligned points, it's going to be too dark, so I would say just start with an important one that you know, for this to be relevant, know that it's important that you have your headlights set to automatic otherwise you will know if it is not a basic vehicle, if you just keep the headlights completely off the screen will stay bright and if you have made this adjustment when you turn on the headlights it will dim the infotainment system so since We're in a forest sport, we have automatic headlights, so we'll keep it on the automatic brightness setting on auto and just go down a level here to give it that fine balance of brightness on the screen.

Now, the second thing I recommend. The

change

will actually be made on the combo meter directly between the speedometer and the tachometer here and to

change

this setting we're going to use these little switches here we have the two arrows and the I set button and in the in the middle and we'll scroll by tapping a of the arrows towards us and what we are changing here are the tire pressure units, so for some reason they come from the factory in kPa, which is kilo Pascal, which is metric, so we want to change it to psi , that's what we use here in the states.
We can control the tire pressure. Now they're just going to show dashes because we're not moving, but to change that setting, what I'm going to do is. I'm going to toggle using one of these arrows until I get to the screen that says pull and hold the eye

settings

switch for the menu, so what I'll do is pull and hold the switch until the screen appears. changes and the first thing that will appear is the display

settings

, so what I'll do is select it by tapping the settings button eyes towards me and then I'll scroll with the arrows here until I get to the tire pressure units and then the I'll select using the eyes settings button and then it will show me kpx, that's what I set now.
I'll go down once with the arrow and then it'll show me psi and I'll just select that by tapping the ice setting button. Now to get out of here, you have two options: you can sit and wait for about 30 seconds and eventually you will be taken back to the home screen or I will. I'm too impatient for that, so I like to go back here by alternating with the arrow, select return and then do it again, select return. Other things you can change there are like warning volumes for different characteristics of the view, but for the most part, I really think everything is pretty good as it is, so now we'll take a look to make sure we change it from the correct way and yes, our tire pressure was changed to psi, now the next thing we are going to change.
We'll continue here and change the travel link weather location now. If you have navigation built in, you know that normally this will change on its own, but if you don't like this sport. We don't have, you know, we can use Apple Carplay and use Google Maps and shapes and stuff, but we don't have the built-in TomTom navigation that some of the higher trim levels have, so if we look here, we'll see Let's see we have the area of New York Yonkers as the default, that's what will always be the default if you don't have that navigation built in, but it's very easy to change it, all you do is just go to the apps here from your home screen and then we'll go to Travel Link and this will be part of your Sirius XM subscription.
I think you only get the radio for four months, but I think you get this for about three years, so you get this for a while, but if we go here to see the weather, we'll see that it shows us the Yonkers, you can check three forecasts out of six hours or five days, that's really good, but we're going to go to locations here and I'm going to I have to hit add new location and since we're in Denver, I'm going to change that to the Denver area, so Colorado Denver now just because I've selected this doesn't mean I've already changed it, so I still need to hit the return button.
The arrow comes back again and then I'll see the list of both. Then I need to select Denver Metro and that will change it, so it should, yeah, there we go, so you've changed it on the screen up here, so there we are. All right, now we're going to change other things that we're going to change here in the settings, so the fourth thing that I recommend changing, if we scroll down here, we see that we have Oops, sorry. I'm looking generally here, so the fourth thing I recommend changing here we see that we have Wi-Fi and we have a Wi-Fi hotspot that can connect through AT&T.
You get it for free, you know, for a month there so you can match. your phone and so on, but what we're talking about here is built-in Wi-Fi. This will allow you to connect to your home Wi-Fi to perform over-the-air software updates for the infotainment system, so you no longer know that in the near future, you will have to go to the dealer, all the updates and everything will be will do over Wi-Fi, as long as you know you can park right outside your apartment or in your garage, so with that you shouldn't have any problems in terms of connectivity there, so this isn't really adjusting a setting, but you would have to go to Wi-Fi settings, look for your network type in your password and everything that we're not really customizing. configuring here, but what I'm referring to is down here, where it says to automatically check for updates.
Now both are disabled. You could check for updates manually, you know, if you wanted to, but what I recommend doing is checking for updates automatically, but not doing the it will download automatically because what it will do with this setup is you will go into your garage and it will connect to your Wi-Fi and it'll tell you, "Hey, there's an update available," would you like to download it, or it'll tell you your software. it's up to date so this way you'll always know whether or not you need to update your software the reason I don't like doing the automatic download you know the same reason it's annoying with your phone when you know it's like plugging it in the night to go to bed and it's like, oh, we're connected to a power source and you know we're connected to Wi-Fi, let's do this update right now and this way it'll take ten minutes. it will tell you that it is updated or you have the option to download it at that time and you can say no if you are in a hurry, you know, do it and last but not least, number five.
We'll scroll down all the way under the vehicle settings here for the auto light sensor. Now what we're changing here and this obviously assumes that you know you have your headlights set to automatic. What we are changing here is not you. To know the brightness of something like that, we just change how often the automatic light sensor checks to see if it's dark outside and when you get it halfway there, basically every second, the cars say, Is it dark? It is dark? It is dark? It is dark? So like if you drive under an overpass for like two seconds, it's going to be like boop boop with your headlights and you know, if you've made the brightness adjustments that I mentioned before, you know your screens are going to go dim, dim, dim, dim. . you know, the headlights go on and off all the time, it's a bit annoying and obviously it will also add extra strain, so what I recommend doing is just changing this to minimum, what that will do, it will still be the same level of brightness with the one where you know the lights will come on, but it's changing how often it asks to just 7-10 seconds so you know if you're going to the Eisenhower Tunnel or you're in a mall. in a parking lot they don't have lights or something, you know you'll notice after about 10 seconds the lights come on and in my personal opinion I think that's for the best because they really are only going to show up when they really need them.
