5 reasons why the HENRY LONG RANGER is the BEST LEVER GUN EVER! (.223/5.56 lever action rifle?)

Jun 06, 2021
Hello, welcome back to another episode of guns and guitars and today I have a really rare unicorn

rifle

to show you, this is the Henry Long Ranger and this has to be the most feature packed

l

ever

action

rifle

you have

ever

seen. Seen in my entire life, there's a lot to be excited about in this, so stick around. I'm Dan, these are Gunz guitars, this is for you. What's so special about the Henri Long Ranger compared to any other

lever

-

action

rifle on the market? Really what it comes down to is that Henry was very thoughtful and very intentional with his design of this thing and they really wanted to find good modern solutions to the historical problems that people have with

lever

guns, so I'm going to go over each one of those problems and show you how Henry solved it with this rifle.
5 reasons why the henry long ranger is the best lever gun ever 223 5 56 lever action rifle
This is a marlin model 1894 CS BL and this is my cowboy assault rifle. It's a blast to shoot. I love it. It's step four because it has all the problems. that people have with a lever action gun, the first of which obviously is that lever guns don't shoot modern calibers, due to the design which loads from a magazine tube, so they can't use pointed ammunition so you're limited to those Old school cowboy okay this particular one is chambered in 357 Magnum and you know of course you can get them in 30 30 45 70 45

long

colt and they are very powerful rounds They are effective, but they are not the most accurate and they are no

long

er the cheapest or the most abundant, so the first thing Henry did was when they designed the Long Ranger, they designed it for modern rifle calibers.

5 reasons why the henry long ranger is the best lever gun ever 223 5 56 lever action rifle...

This particular one is chambered in two to three, which is one of my favorite calibers of all time. they are also available in 243 Winchester 308 Winchester and even 6/5 cream or if you really want to go out and reach out and touch something now you might be thinking Dan, you just told us that lever actions can't be in modern rifle calibers . especially pointed calibers like two or three, that brings me to the next number that I want to point out that Henri fixes now. You'll notice on this Marlin that the magazine tube goes up to here and that's so you can store up to, I think, six rounds of 357 Magnum, eight rounds, I think 38 Special, a pretty high capacity, which is one of the advantages of a lever gun over a bolt action one, but like I said, you're limited to only their cowboy calibers, and while it has high capacity and can take follow-up shots with very fast reloads, it's terrible, so the way Henry solved it both problems with being able to load modern ammunition and having faster reloads is that they did it.
5 reasons why the henry long ranger is the best lever gun ever 223 5 56 lever action rifle
The magazine is fine, the magazine on this particular one holds five rounds plus one, so the Marlin holds six rounds of 357 Magnum. This has five rounds of 2t3. I don't know about you, but I would take five rounds of two to three out of six. 357 Magnum rounds every day, so the capacity is almost there, but more importantly the reloads are much faster, okay, you fire your five rounds, you're out, put another magazine on even the fastest shooters from Cowboy Action and it would be difficult for the world to carry five. shots in their lever guns that fast, okay, I'm by no means a professional.
5 reasons why the henry long ranger is the best lever gun ever 223 5 56 lever action rifle
I haven't practiced doing this fast at all, but it's pretty fast, four reloads, five shots now because Henry removed that magazine tube which really opened it up. For Henry to solve some other problems people have now, the inherent problem with tubular magazine lever action rifles is that accuracy suffers because you can't have a free floating barrel with a Henry Long Ranger, that just doesn't work. is the case. Well, this barrel actually floats free from the handguard, so whether you're shooting handheld from a bipod and stopping it on a rock or a sandbag or something, your point of impact won't change at all, plus, People typically don't like to shoot from prone with a lever action because of how far you have to rotate that lever forward to reload well with the Henry Long Ranger, it has a completely different action which we'll talk about in a moment, but as a result you don't have to throw that thing that far forward to get your next round in the chamber, which makes shooting with a bipod not a problem at all.
Now the fact that a barrel floats freely is not the only thing that affects accuracy and in fact is one of the

reasons

why people have preferred bolt actions over lever actions for a long time due to the correct bolt action with that 6 lug rotating bolt that actually gets the bolt and bullet into that free floating barrel, that's where you get your true accuracy from. So Henry actually set up the action with this with a 6 geared lug bolt that turns into a consistent and secure lock inside the barrel and the result is that, coupled with a heavy, tapered barrel, this thing shoots so accurately now. which I am by no means a quality shooter and I definitely never use quality ammo because it's too expensive and I just want to go out and have fun with this thing, but even using the standard gold Wolff two to three I was able to shoot. a five shot group that was sub MOA and if you discount one flyer by taking one out, which I know I did, and you discount another flyer for not using matching quality ammo, there are three shots that are sub MOA with this thing now.
I've watched a lot of other YouTube videos about this and read a lot of blog posts and stuff like that, and when people put matching quality ammo in this thing, they get sub MOA accuracy, no problem and I believe it. I mean, this gun definitely shoots better. that I and the object I have definitely shoots better than me if you haven't seen my video on Bushnell Forge two and a half by fifteen my friend was able to crush steel up to nine hundred yards with this optic in his 65 plus feet so here for pick up one of these in 65 Creedmoor, that's the kind of distance you could shoot with an optic like this and I think when I checked at Bushnell they were selling these things for around $850 and now you can get them for under $400, so that this is a great optic if you want to get into the world of super long range shooting now naturally, as is the case with almost all lever action weapons, the trigger on this thing is just beautifully crisp, oh man, oh, I don't know how many times doing something that feels so good that it just shatters like glass, it has to be like a three pound pull, maybe a three and a half pound pull, I don't think.
I'd like something lighter than that, maybe if you're a good metric shooter and you're going to shoot a thousand yards with one of these things, you might want to have some work done on the trigger to get it down to two pounds, but for me about three pounds oh, is it sweet or is it sweet. I can't wait to get back to the range to shoot this thing again, as far as the fit and finish of this thing goes, I mean other than it's made to extremely tight tolerances and locks tight. and of course that amazing trigger is made out of American walnut and they put this beautiful satin finish on it, which is amazing, it doesn't reflect a lot of light, same with this matte black coating that they put on the receiver, so this thing.
It would be an excellent hunting tool. You know it won't reveal your position. They have a very understated and unpretentious look, and they have a laser etched checkered design that really provides a good solid grip. I mean, even in adverse conditions, it's very humid outside. you would have no problem holding this plate. It is available with or without iron sights. I bought it without iron sights and this is really vain of me. I bought it without iron sights just because it looks a lot cooler. I mean, it kind of makes it seem like it. like a cheap BB gun from Walmart when you have those sights on there, so I think without the sights I knew I was going to put an optic on this thing anyway, so I didn't see the need to have iron sights now.
I think Henry really got it right. It's about solving all those problems with the typical traditional lever-action rifle. I love this. I had a great time shooting it, so thanks to Henry for sending me this rifle to review. I've had it for about ten months. Now I think at this point I'm going to call it my own, but as much as I love this gun, there are a couple of issues that I have and they're really nitpicky issues, but the first one is worth mentioning, which even though you're there. I can see that they really brought this stock in intentionally for a good cheek weld and I have the lowest profile scope mounting rings I could find, but still, in order to look directly at the target, I have to rest it right here on my thumb bone. jaw as opposed to my cheek, so I wish they had made it a little higher to make it perfect for sights.
Now I know why they did it because they have the models that come with iron sights. This would be perfect for iron sights, but for the scope it's a little low, so I'll probably end up putting a cheek riser on it, but I mean, this hickory socket is so beautiful it would be a real shame to cover it with a pad well, so I don't know, I'm back and forth on the subject, but like I said, super picky, the other thing is fine since I've been trying this. I've been throwing magazines on the floor. Do that every time I see a firearm, you know, I really think it's kind of a basic test: if the magazine can drop to the ground, you can pick it up, reload it and reuse it without problems, then it's a good design, well, these all .
Every now and then the motherboards would come loose and I wouldn't realize when I was recharging them, so sometimes I would have problems when I went to charge it because the charger wouldn't fit properly and I couldn't figure it out. and that's definitely something you don't want to deal with, you know if you're trying to recharge so you can pick the game you're looking for or you know if God forbid you're caught in a firefight with this you just don't want to deal with it so I think which is kind of a design flaw issue that the charger base plates can slide a little, but once I knew to look for it there is a really easy fix.
The issue I'm having is also with a magazine, and again, this is very nitpicky, but I basically wanted it to hold up to more than five rounds. Well, I know for hunting regulations and stuff, you usually don't want to carry more than five rounds and stuff. Guys know me, I'm not really a big hunter so I would prefer to have a higher ability. I'd really like to see this thing take ten rounds, that's fine and even better since it's chambered for two to three. I'd love to see it take ten rounds. I think a 10 round fight is bound to look really cool after that thing and yeah, I don't know, I think that's probably a very long shot in the dark.
I think Henry is going to be fixing these things. taking AR magazines in the short term, but just an idea, but I think that's it, I mean, other than those three, you know, really subtle and nitpicky issues. I think Henry did an excellent job with this. I think it's a very thoughtful design. I think it is a great advance. for lever action technology, which sounds strange because you know when you talk about modern technology you don't think about lever action, but you know Henry, they have a really strong American heritage history with lever guns and I think it's amazing let them be I continue to develop it even in this modern era, but you're still probably thinking, I mean, if you know me, you know that I'm actually not a great hunter and I'm not a great long-range shooter, so why?
Would I even want a gun like this? Well, those of you who know me know that I absolutely love my fifteen year old rifles. I think they are the most fun to shoot. I think they are the most impressive modern sporting rifles ever. they're a lot of fun, but also, if you've been following my channel, you'll know that I recently took my show on tour. Well, I now live and travel in an RV full time with my family and if you want to know more about that. You can watch my family's vlogging channel, but as a result, all 15 aren't very friendly to crossing state lines, so I can't take them with me everywhere, so this is a really cool modern solution to being able to have two. to three rifles that have fast follow-up shots and fast reloads and are also legal in 50 states.
You can take this gun anywhere in the United States. You can even take it to Canada, so when my family and I want to take our gear. to Canada, as long as you present the proper paperwork, there is no reason why you can't take this to that country as well, which is why when I saw this gun my jaw dropped because I didn't know something like this existed, but if you're like me and you are interested in cool, inexpensive ar-15s and accessories for them, definitely check out Clovis. I'm Dan, this is guitar guns and I'll see you in the next video.
