5 Benefits of Using Apple CarPlay on Your Subaru

Today I want to show you how to use Apple

carplay

or Android auto in

your

Subaru. I have an iPhone, so for today's video we'll look specifically at the Apple version, but it's very similar if you also have Android. will allow you to use

your

phone's navigation apps so you can use Google Maps or Apple Maps, you can even listen to music

using

any of your streaming apps like Spotify Pandora YouTube Music and you can receive and make hands-free phone calls or even do messaging hands-free texting, but there are some cool features that Apple CarPlay has that I want to dig into today and show you so you can have the best ownership and driving experience with your Subaru if you're new to my channel.

I'll do my best to get back to you, so to add a device to your Subaru's touchscreen, click the Add icon at the bottom right. Now we have the new device name Alex's Outback, go to the Bluetooth settings and then the new device will be displayed. up here down at the bottom click we paired, make sure you enable cplay and now your phone is connected to your Subaru's touchscreen.

The first cool feature I want to show you is how to change the device name within your Bluetooth device list where it will actually say the name of your own car, so I changed mine to Alex's Outback and the way I did that was by going to the settings on the touch screen, scrolling to the phone and clicking rename bias so every time you get your new Subaru it will probably have some generic name here it will probably say Subaru BT or in this case mine just said Outback before , so I added my name at the beginning, the reason I did this is because I like the added level of customization and if you have multiple devices here or if you have more than one Subaru in your family, you will be able to quickly connect to the car you want connect once you enter Apple CarPlay, one of the cool features it has.

With this system, you can relocate apps, but you can't just click and hold these apps like you would on your phone. You have to go to your phone's settings to change this and the way to do it is simply by searching. go to the search bar within your settings search for

carplay

so you see this here and then click on the device or car you want to connect to, for whatever reason it doesn't specify that this is my Outback even though I already do I have changed the device name, but you click on that and you go to customize.

This is where you can change the location of these apps, so that, for example, you don't see Spotify here on the first page, it's now on the second page. Change that, you'll just find it down here in the apps list, so click and hold there in the menu and pull this up and that will instantly move it to the first page so you can easily access it. any music streaming app that you use or navigation app that you use and if you want to put it on the first page, you can just do it there. You can also delete apps you don't use so you can click the little minus click. when you delete it and it puts it here at the bottom so you can easily add it back if you ever want to add it again.

The next feature of the Apple C play that I think really makes it great when driving your Subaru is its voice command feature, so the Subaru has a built-in voice command feature, but there is a difference between that and the voice command of Apple CarPlay. I'll show you, so if you click this button, it will try to use Subaru voice command, which I don't think will work very well, but I'll show you what it looks like and then I'll show you how to use Apple Carpls voice command, so just one click and it will appear like this.

It's very robotic. I don't think it works at all. Plus, we're going out and there's always a delay when

using

Apple CarPlay. Siri is much more responsive, understands what you're saying and does much more, so we're going to click and hold for a few seconds until I see the Siri button or the Siri icon there loading and then you can say whatever you want it to do, Take me to Bachman Subaru. One option I see is Bachman Subaru and so it will open it in the maps and take me there. exactly where I ask you to go so you can use the business name you are targeting.

You can use the name of an address of course if you really want to, if it's easier for you you can take out your phone and type in the address. your phone or you can do it right from the touch screen, but I prefer the hands-free or I guess you should say the voice command option where you don't actually have to touch this or touch the information on your phone if you're driving and need to set an alarm or a reminder, you can do that too, for example, you can set an alarm for 600 pm. m. I set your alarm for 6 p.m. and then that will automatically appear on your phone's alarm system to ring at the time you set or maybe you have something coming up, you just got off the phone with someone and you want to schedule a meeting to talk to that person later. or you have an upcoming event and you don't want to forget it, you can set an event on your calendar also by doing the same, set an event for April 1, what is the name of the new event?

SCH April 1, 2024 is on your home calendar and you can also use voice text messaging apps to be able to text hands-free by simply saying what you want to say or if you are texting someone who also has an iPhone, can send voice messages where you can actually talk and it will send them that message as a sort of voicemail, but to their phone as a text message. Another cool feature that Apple CarPlay has is something called Driver Focus, so if you receive a phone call you can automatically ignore incoming phone calls within the Driver Focus setting and it will automatically send that person a text message letting them know you're driving. or you can customize it and say whatever you want to say to set this up go to your iPhone use the drop down menu from the far right like this click and hold focus and go into driving focus so you'll click on all three little points here, go to settings and you can adjust this now if you don't see driving focus. as I just showed you go to your settings on your car touch screen and click to touch it right here so mine is already on and you can go in here and click on auto answer so now it's set to answer automatically just favorites, but you can do all contacts, you can't do anyone, you can do recent ones and then this is where you can go in and edit the message that you want me to send them.

You can have the Focus turn on automatically so you don't have to. Start this every time you get in the car by simply going to the bottom of your phone's settings and clicking on while driving. You can adjust this here to connect when your phone is connected to your car's carplay, one of the latest cool features that What I want to show you is how to automatically share your parked location so that every time you get out of your car and walk around, maybe it will be If you find yourself in an unfamiliar area and want to easily remember where your car is, you can do so. automatically by going into your settings and finding the parked location so it is within your Apple Maps, simply scroll down to the bottom and make sure show parked location is turned on so that way it will automatically save to your Apple Maps. and you can easily locate your car when you're ready to return.

If you want to customize it and change the background color of your Apple CarPlay screen, go into the settings right here, click on the wallpaper and you can select from all of these different color options. so you can change it like this, click set, go back to the home screen and now the background color is changed. You can also change the appearance of this for better visibility, so if you go here under the appearance settings, you can change this to Light or Dark Mode so you can set it to change automatically. You can make it always dark, which changes the background color to white or black.
