The first few weeks are very important and as I mentioned, allowing your bearded dragon to settle. This is very important not only for them, but it also allows you to appreciate them from a distance and you know that even though you have probably been waiting for a bearded dragon for a long time and want to keep them, you should do it. learn their behaviors and what they are like when you are around them so you have to take baby steps so I would say for the first couple of weeks you are slowly doing things inside their enclosure, maybe cleaning up after them, giving them food and just seeing how they respond and if you notice that your bearded dragon gets scared as soon as you put your hand in its enclosure, you may have to expand this time a little more and give it another week to see if your bearded dragon is getting used to you, but If you notice that your bearded dragon completely relaxes and eats your claws, even eats your hands and is very comfortable with you, then you can continue with step number two because you are on the right track and ready.

In the right direction, it definitely helps to get a bearded dragon that comes from a good breeder and not just a random bearded dragon from Kijiji or Craigslist or on the internet that you don't know where it comes from because you don't really know how. have been kept most of the time, when a breeder has a bearded dragon they will take the time to handle them and interact with them that way when they go to clients or go to their new homes, they are already a little tamed and now just They need to get comfortable with their new owners, so step number two now comes down to you taking your bearded dragon out of its enclosure, so if all goes well, this will usually fall into week two, week three of you first.
Getting your bearded dragon, so now you can get your bearded dragon out and when you handle a bearded dragon you definitely want to hold its body, you don't want to hold it by the tail, you don't want to hold it by the tail. limbs or by their neck, you want to hold them gently, um, if it helps you keep them close to your body, but if your bearded dragon is getting scared or maybe you're getting scared, then hold them on, you know, a soft surface like a bed or a couch will definitely help in case the bearded dragon decides to jump up and run away, at least it will jump on something soft so you definitely want to hold it, interact with it, look at it and if it's not getting scared then you might know. potentially start putting them on your shoulder or you know, put them on the bed and maybe pet them, but if you notice them getting scared, adjust the way you handle them, wait until they calm down and then put them back inside the enclosure to just leave them . relax and let them know that hey, I'm not here to hurt you, I'm not here to hurt you and repeat the process until you notice that your bearded dragon doesn't want to be with you, then maybe it's a sign for you to back off. off and you don't know, continue with this step, but usually step two usually goes well, especially if your bearded dragon in step one was already comfortable with you, he will allow you to hold him.
Now there are many more steps to

taming

your bearded dragon. but I find the first month very crucial and you know something that you can practice every month and improve more and more. The most important thing is that your bearded dragon feels very comfortable with you, so step number three. and this right here is very important for you, not only to do it, but to be very consistent with it because now what you are going to do is feed your bearded dragon outside of the enclosure. This could go both ways, it could be a success and your bearded dragon runs to you and eats with you and eats pretty much on command or the bearded dragon will just run away, so you want to set up something comfortable like a bed and see if your bearded dragon would eat outside his enclosure now. that you have gained the dragon's trust with your beard in step one and your bearded dragon is now comfortable with step two, you can now move on to step three and that is building a stronger bond with your bearded dragon now if you haven't already.
You've done it. succeeded with step one or step two. I wouldn't take the next step, but if you have, now you could take it, you know, one little step further and give them a little bit of that enrichment and bonding time that bearded dragons definitely need, especially if you want your bearded dragon to be domesticated, so the next step is to feed your bearded dragon outside of the enclosure. Now you often see videos of feeding bearded dragons inside the enclosure and there is nothing wrong with that, but that is their home, so the ultimate proof. Seeing if your bearded dragon is bonding with you is taking him out of his element and seeing if he still responds with kindness and that kind of interest in food because let's be honest, the bearded dragon won't eat if he does.
You're not comfortable, so this is not so much about feeding your bearded dragon, but you should feed them on schedule, but about giving your bearded dragons treats and seeing how they respond out of their element outside of their enclosure, so A You'll often see my blue bearded dragon and Loki get a little psycho uh they don't know what's going on but they'll still eat their treats and that will allow me to continue bonding with them and like I said you want to. to make sure you are succeeding with steps one and two before taking this step, because if you put your bearded dragon in a place it is not used to it could be a disaster, they would just get scared and it wouldn't be a great experience. for your bearded dragon, but if you give your bearded dragons treats outside of their enclosure, it gives them that encouragement to want to stay outside of their enclosure because they are getting food, but it also gives you a great opportunity to bond with them.
By petting them, interacting with them, and being around them, making these videos with my bearded dragons definitely helps me bond with my bearded dragons, as you know, when I take them outside the enclosure and interact with them, you start to see them calmer. Sit back and get used to me and it's a great way for me to bond with them too, so I hope these three steps help you. If you feel like you're stuck, reach out to me and ask questions.
