I

love

and three

things

I

hate

about my new

marlin

er, it is alright guys, I've had my Trek Marlin Seven for about six months.
3 things i love and hate about my 2021 trek marlin 7 watch before you buy
I've ridden a lot of miles and it's been snowing a lot right now, so I haven't been on the bike in a few weeks. If you

watch

my vlog, you know I've been sick and some other things have been going on. but I'm hoping to get back on the bike this weekend so I wanted to talk about some of the things that I found about the bike that I really

love

and that I'm really happy with and overall I'm extremely happy with. the bike and then I said you know three things I

hate

and hate is a strong word maybe a clicking word so we don't necessarily need to use the word hate but three things I wish were different or That could have been improved especially for the price of the bike so let's get into my first love and that's the 1 by 10 gearing so I think the 1 by 10 is a big improvement over a lot of the bikes that were on this one. price range or just below this price range and that's because a lot of them had two forward gears, you had to play with that along with less reverse gears, so going to 1 by 10 I think makes it a simpler setup. but it also gives you a ton of range with the 11 to 46 tooth speed and 10 speed back here so the front is a 28 tooth fsa alpha unit and in the back you have the shimano dior m4100 cassette which is 11 to 46 teeth, so the gears here are actually at 11 13 15 18 21 24 28 32 37 and 46.

More Interesting Facts About,

3 things i love and hate about my 2021 trek marlin 7 watch before you buy...

So we have the

marlin

six, my wife has the marlin six and she has the two gears in front here and this is just a big improvement over that, I really like it. I've had a lot of fun with this transmission on the road. I can definitely get some speed and then you know those 46 teeth really make it easy on those hills, especially for an older guy like me. You know I'm over 40 years old. Now I'm 41 years old and you know I need a little help getting up some of those big hills on the trail, so one of the things I really love about this bike is that one out of ten, what's the first thing that doesn't bother me?
3 things i love and hate about my 2021 trek marlin 7 watch before you buy
Do you like this bike? bike and that's good, I added the pnw waterfall so I can link to that video so you can see when I made this update along with the loma lever that's there and it's really nice that I have this internal route here, but what? What I don't like is that there is no internal routing through the seat tube so you can see the cable here and the cable on the outside here so I'm not bothered that I bought the pnw cascade because I think it's a great dropper post and you know, it's an externally routed one, which is nice.
3 things i love and hate about my 2021 trek marlin 7 watch before you buy
The problem I had is that the previous Marlin Seven supposedly came with internal routing where it just had a hole in the rear, so you stick it in there and run it up and Many of the dropper posts on the market right now are actually with internal routing so you get a larger selection like I said I ended up with a great post with dropper but I was very limited in my search because I couldn't do internal routing and because they had it on the previous model no I know why they removed it, maybe they saved some costs, I'm not too sure but they did it and now I have these flanges that I don't like, I like really clean setups.
Also it's not a big deal because the dropper post is great but like I said it would be nice if it was a cleaner setup so my second love is I actually posted a video about a problem I had and that's the derailleur, so the shimano dior 5120 when you look for it on the Shimano site. It's actually a Shadow Rd. Also, you can check out my other video because of some issues I had with it. This is a really good derailleur and because I didn't know how good it was. It has this clutch here on the right that appears down and I go over it in another video I didn't know about that and when it wasn't up and in the position that makes it stiffer I was having problems with the chain falling off as soon as I put it on.
I put here, a totally different bike, I mean, this thing has been amazing, no matter where I go, the chain stays on and it stays tight. I mean, you can see I have a little chain knock here, but it's actually not that bad in comparison. to some of the trails I've been on and I'm very happy with it so the drivetrain the entire drivetrain from the gearing to the derailleur a big awesome upgrade from the marlin six very good guys so the second upgrade What I see might have been on this bike is that the tires are not tubeless ready they are xr2 compositions and the walls are actually too thin to be tubeless that's why they are not tubeless ready why I would like it to be without a camera? talk about it, it's the best thing to do, no it's not that's why you can run them with a lower air pressure, which gives you better grip, which I think would definitely help me on the trails, it would give me a little more confident with some of the things I'm trying to do I think it would be great to be able to do that, plus it's supposed to be lighter and it's supposed to self-heal with certain punctures so you have less punctures so you have less chance .
More likely to get a flat than with tire tubes, so the third thing I love about this bike is the fork. It has a Rockshox Judy fork and this fork is extremely nice, it has a hundred millimeters of travel. It is a coil spring. It's not the air spring version, but it has a lot of functionality and works very well, so it has the lockout here and it also has preload on the other side. I have it preloaded until the end. Weight around 210-215. Given the day and on the trails, I have had absolutely no problems.
This thing has been so smooth that I can compare it to the Marlin Six because my wife has it and it's like a ride through the sun. I forget exactly what it is and that's okay. shock but this is like a big difference from that shock so it's definitely worth the extra money when we're talking about going from a marlin six to a marlin seven so this is one of my favorite things on the bike . Well the third thing that is a problem for me is that there is no iscg or the international standard chain guide mounting system, so on a lot of bikes, real mountain bikes, you know this is a cross country bike , but on real mountain bikes. here are different tabs where you can mount certain things here and what I want to mount there and you know, obviously the international standard chain guide mounting system, you can put a chain guide in there to help keep the chain tight, but you can also put a guard on which is basically a piece that comes in here and protects the chain and the gear, so in New Jersey where I am, it's extremely rocky, but it's fun to jump on those rocks, but I can already tell you they almost got me.
Sometimes I lift my front tire and look here, I mean the rock before the rear tire hits it, the rock is getting really close to here and the last thing I want to do is bend this gear or destroy the chain, especially when I'm in the middle of the road, that's why they have those protectors that come around and protect there, but you can't, I mean there's probably a way to do it, but the easiest way is to use the iscg mount. system but it's not here so I can't ride it that easily, especially the good ones that you can buy and that are also recommended, so those are my three things that I love and three things that can be improved about the bike, obviously , there.
Things to consider: The 100 bike is an amazing bike and is exactly what they say, you know, it's like that beginner mountain bike, it's still a cross-country bike but it gives you the ability to hit the trails and see. If you really like it and upgrade to the next bike, the bonus that I don't want to include here, which is a love and needs improvement, is the price, so the price of this bike right now is listed as 899.99, that's about 200 more than the marlin six, I think the marlin six is 699.99 and I think it's worth every penny for the upgrade just for the transmission and fork.
I think that 200 is worth it to jump on the marlin seven and send the marlin six, however, as you start riding and what I didn't know was how good mountain biking was going to be and I got pretty into mountain biking pretty fast, so I saw that I was trying to go down the stairs while I was going down hills trying to I did some jumps and stuff right away, the seat got in weird positions for me and being in weird positions it's like, well, that's why which the dropper posts do well so I have to throw it in there so now I have 8.99 plus the pnw plus cascade. the loam lever, so the pnw cascade is about 180 dollars and the loam lever is another 70. and that lumen lever works great, I really like it, but now you know that's an extra 250 you're putting into a $899 bike, right? so you're up there above the marlin 7, when you really get into mountain bikes you know you're hitting the roscoes, the rosco 6 and the rosco 7. now the rosco 6 is 1099 which is about 200 more than this bike and I just said I spent 250 on the dropper post and the loam lever, now I'm not going to talk much about the rosco 6 because it has some differences but it has a lot of similarities, it's really the rosco 7 that I think you should consider, like this that the 250 dollars I spent here I don't think I should have gone with the Roscoe Six, but looking at the Roscoe Seven, the Roscoe Seven is 13.49, so that's an increase of 450 over this bike and I spent. 250 already, so that's 200 off, so what would I have gotten?
With the rosco 7 you get the same rockshox judy fork, but it's the air version, so on the air version you can load more, you can preload it more because you can pump air. That's what else it comes with and it has 120 millimeters of travel, which is better than the 100 millimeters of travel on this one. It also comes with Max's Recon tires that are tubeless ready so the tire is one of the things I thought was an issue and then it comes with a 1 by 12 sram system instead of a 1 by 10. So I don't have a problem with the 10, but you know it would be nice to have that 12.
It doesn't. I really need it, but well, I don't really need it, but you know it's always nice to have that better system there and then it already comes with a dropper post and now the argument is that I probably have a better dropper post than the one I had. comes with that, or at least I think so, with the p w waterfall, I think it's an amazing dropper post, but you know, for that four hundred and fifty dollars more than this, which is actually a fifty percent increase from the actual price, you get a lot of additions.
Now one of the things you should also consider if you're thinking about that is that the rosco 7 comes with 27 and a half inch tires while the marlin 7 comes with 29 inch tires so you can watch a lot of videos in that you know, there's this idea that maybe the 29 can go through larger objects easier, while the 27.5 may not be able to do that, but the 27.5 can turn better. There are plenty of videos that discuss that in more detail than I can go into. You guys should check it out, but if you're considering if you're looking at a marlin seven but you think you're really going to get into it, I would definitely consider the roscoe seven, the roscoe six, I'd probably skip it, just stick around. with the marlin seven, it's just me, but you know, the price is definitely one of those things, although the price is great because, compared to the marlin six, like I said, for an extra 200 bucks, you get some really great stuff here, so I like the price. but if you're going to upgrade or think you can possibly upgrade certain elements here, then it's definitely worth considering moving up to the rosco 7.
Beyond that, you're looking at a full suspension system, which is a completely different story, but so far. As far as hardtails go, the Rosco 7 is a good bike, so those are the different things I found after having it for six months. I'm going to continue with this bike. I don't really plan on doing any additional updates because I might. I probably just got the rosco 7 and it would have had a lot of those upgrades. I'm not really looking to sell it right now. I still have a lot of room to grow and I don't see it being a problem for me. especially nowI have the dropper post here, the tires, as I said, maybe two more ready, what I'm going to do is wear them completely.
You know, tires wear out, so at that point I can always buy tires that I'll be ready to go tubeless and I can go tubeless at that point, so at that point I don't feel like I'm throwing away tires that I bought that are new. . I would need new tires at that point anyway, so I'm very happy with the bike, those are some of the things I found. I hope they help you if you are thinking about making different decisions when it comes to the Marlin Seven or perhaps something a little more expensive. Amazing and things that I felt needed a little improvement or could be improved, but of course the price would probably be higher.
It would be nice if it fell in the same price range but that's why there is a more expensive bike that has those different parts so I really appreciate you checking out and I hope you subscribe and I'll see you soon.
