2023 Range Rover Sport Review. Should you buy this instead of the Range Rover & save £20,000?

Apr 11, 2024
thank you, welcome to a new video from Harry's Garage and today's car is

this

the new Range Rover Sport. I went to the launch of

this

car a few months ago at the studio and when they first took off the covers I was a little surprised because it was much bigger than the outgoing Range Rover Sport, which was sort of a KN rival. It looked a lot bigger, it almost looked like another Range Rover, but now we have the new Range Rover right at the top of the

range

and I. I'm a little confused as to where this Range Rover Sport fits in now.

I reserved one. I've been through it for a few days only to find out that this version is now the d350 version. There is no svr version yet, but I think it is the one that the most customers actually chose, let's go and take a closer look. Now let's start from the front. I think the front boot looks pretty good to me. It looks like a tougher Range Rover than a Range Rover Sport, but it's kind of a difference. It is different because it has an even narrower design. it comes on from time to time it has this almost front air dam here and it's almost a front wing splitter here.

More Interesting Facts About,

2023 range rover sport review should you buy this instead of the range rover save 20 000...

I'll just tell a story when I first saw the KN years ago, when Porsche, Porsche Design, first released it at that time. um, I asked him if it was a little st

range

to see a Porsche without any aerodynamics here and in very colorful language he said: well, it doesn't really matter, it's got a little bit of lift in the front, it weighs over two tons, like that that a little bit of lift doesn't matter at all and I'm wondering if this on the Range Rover Sport really needs a front spoiler, they normally have clearance because they have approach angles etc and that will all go away with this.

I think it might be because there is a package in this, it's the Stormer handling package, maybe it's part of that. I don't know other things that bother the front here. Range Rover Sport has always been the king of fake events we have. on the hood we'll see in a moment, but this is completely full so you can see there, they are completely blind, no air gets in there, there is a kind of blindness here too, you can see here and then if you come. This is all just decoration, there's no hood vent, nothing like that, and if you just stand back and look at the car in profile, it's huge.

I can't figure out how the body color goes down and the extended seal that actually comes out with the Dual, but it's huge. Now the Range Rover Sport always had cut-out windows compared to a Range Rover. It's the same thing here, it's pretty good, they've gotten rid of that kind of rubber seal as you open the window. but it's a big plus side, there's good space in the rear Range Rover Sports, we're always a little compromised on space, but not the new one, it's actually on the same wheelbase as the standard Range Rover, so that there is good space in The rear is strange, although it is an automotive finish and there is some kind of Meridian sound system.
They put this type of fabric covering on both front and rear doors and I think it has something to do with the sound system. It's a little black inside. there, so I can't really show the inside. I'll do it on the outside, huge wheels. 22 inch wheels 285 45 r22. Now these are actually the Scorpion zero. They are the most version. These tiles are pretty good. In fact, I've had them in the snow. as well as sort of mud etc because you know Land Rover is hooked on this off road capability and even on the Range Rover Sport they compromise the handling slightly by fitting all season tires on the rear and it looks radically different on this spectrum.

sport

ier than all the other Range Rovers in the range is that they never had the split tailgate, but now there is this crossbar.
I mean, more like on the Range Rover, how the lights were hidden, they're not hidden in the same way and the number plates move down and it's just bigger, it doesn't look like a coupe like a previous range of a

sport

s car that had a kind of more classified screen and was somewhat tapered towards the rear, not like that in this version, it is large. It looks like a Range Rover rather than a Range Rover Sport. You'll also notice that if you look at the back there are no exhaust finishers, the exhausts actually stick out here and there are two pipes underneath, but there are no finishers or anything, it almost looks like you think it was electric or whatever, but in fact, I've tried to hide the exhaust pipes on this one, if I raise the huge backrest, there are some interesting touches here, we have a spare one, but it's the space-saving type, so you can't go full speed with It's pretty cool, there's a big boot here, but this little trick means you have a mini boot so you can put your stuff in there without it moving around the rest of the boots and you can tie things up here. so I quite like that touch, it's a little thick in the way it has to go down, but yeah, it folds like that, yeah, when you turn on the side, the big difference with this is just the volume of the car that you get when You order a Range Rover.
Sport, has a much larger boot for example, you can see its size here and it has a price. This is the auto version of the d350 and this one weighs 99,245 pounds with options and the largest option is this Stormer handling package. 5330 costs a hundred and six thousand and one hundred and twenty pounds, it's over a hundred thousand pounds of Range Rover Sport and it's just the d350, it's okay in autobiography version, so the prices have gone up by about 15,000, but they are about 20,000 less than a full-size Range Rover, so there you have it. Let's take it outside, look at how it drives, yeah, everything feels like a Range Rover and then when you get in, what you notice is that it's higher up, this whole center console, the same kind of screen that we have here to tell me or temporary.
Now, what do we have so dynamic or to stop? Start there. They have cleaned it like everyone else they tried to banish and button up as much as they can. I'm going to start it because it's pretty cold today, so just Understand that I'm also going to put the heated seats on. I like the heated seats too. There we are. I couldn't find the handbrake. It is funny. I was looking around. I think I'm going crazy. I had to put the handbrake on. it doesn't have a handbrake, now you can only park to drive in reverse or whatever here, but to put a handbrake on you can just press Park a bunch of bins as usual, grip holes here and then this weird second bin underneath from a secret vault beneath the wireless cupholders. charging there for your phone but I was told it goes off and I've experienced it if you put your phone in it's some kind of shiny plastic and your phone speeds up I mean explodes which is a bit strange a wheel smaller than you .
I'm hoping to find it in a Range Rover but it's very closed off, lower glass than the Range Rover so it feels different and quite a small dash layout, you can see everything inside the steering wheel but I think it's time to move away. By the round dials, you know that my Lotus and my mirror have moved away. God doesn't know why, even though we're obsessed, we're still making round dials wrong anyway. I'm going to break the automatic lock. Etc. starts at the ride height of this car right now and it's probably some setup somewhere I'm going to disappear anyway you'll join me on some better roads in a moment as soon as you get going in your car it will first thing you feel is that this is very plush, there's a hardness to it and it's very easy shifting to just slide it on it has a feeling of weight around it, which we'll get to in a moment, yeah, and it feels like a step above.
It feels a little luxurious, strangely rather than sporty, and it's quiet. I measured it on my normal Bitter Highway and it's 65 66 decibels, which is very quiet, just the ride initially just doesn't handle the bumps as well as you'd expect. I think that has something to do with the size of the wheels on this car, do you think? I'll just slide over it and there are no manholes or little ridges which I'm not sure about and it feels big looking through the mirror looking back it just feels big it actually sits on the same wheelbase as the radio full size here we go, let's go.
Look how fast it goes up the hill, it's quite an interesting sound, isn't it? It's almost a V8 sound coming from this straight-six diesel engine, so it's strange for me to call it a V8, but there is some kind of sound coming from the engine. Which I suspect is digital. I can actually put it in something called dynamic mode and that only changed the handling, but it also changes the noise. Well, I'm going to go, I'll do sports there, just listen to this. There is a bit of digital sound if you have it in dynamic mode, not what I expected from the d350 Range Rover Sport, but yes, floating around at 60 and at highway speeds, it is a very active place to be outside of this car and there, yeah, this anti-roll and it's worth the second one for me, it's not real, but it's not a bad sound, but it's not real and I'm supposed to feel the bumps and then I have a kind of fearless steering, you know , and just because it tries to swallow the bumps to redeem them, it's like it has the weight to deal with them without the suspension having to work too hard and then crashes like it's out of ideas.
Dynamic set it to normal and see how it works. This is the most tested part and yet in a very big change, actually, yes, I'm surprised at how much difference the dynamic setting makes to the actual ride quality because it doesn't really have any. Sway bars on this car, it's all done through the sway bars, but electronically controlled, so when you're not in a corner they can move freely which helps with off-roading, so that's all there is to it. About that it is also a short gear, I mean six doing 60 and 2000 RPM. I need two more gears, but it wasn't like that if I was accelerating quite a bit in third and fourth, I guess they did it to give it acceleration. because she's 5.7, I think it's cup number 60, which is pretty impressive for the size of the cut.
I mentioned weight before. The Range Rover quoted a weight of 2,360 kilos, which is 245 kilos heavier than the outgoing Sport model, but my scale is not. working at the moment, so I realized that the coach had weighed its D300 Range Rover Sport 1511 kilos, it's a two and a half ton car now, so yeah, that's why it crushes potholes so well, it'll deal with this little one compression here, no problem, what is it? It's going to be like this round here, especially with all-season tires, which is not ideal for Dynamics, now it didn't work too badly there, it's pretty impressive, yeah, I like four-season tires, it saves you having to buy winter tires.
Tires for the UK because they do a reasonable average job in the snow, nothing like a proper winter tire but fine for use in the UK. I'm going to go over some of the likes and dislikes of this car and start with the design I don't like. I don't know when he said radio sports. I was expecting it to have a more racist look and it's not, it's just a sort of alternative Range Rover look to me and I think it's partly my fault for being the editorial type if you say sport. At the rear I hope it's sporty, but if you look at the Discovery Sport and that's not really sporty, it's just the Discovery junior and basically this is the Range Rover junior and you understand it and then it makes more sense. the price is another one of disgust because it has gone up, this is a hundred and six thousand pound car that I am testing and it is diesel d350, it is nothing fancy from Uber, V8, svr chugging crazy, so it is a surprise and I don't think the design is as coherent as it is on the full-size Range Rover, as are those fabulous taillights and there's a statement there, this doesn't feel as finished or best in class in design.
States, although it is a very attractive car and then the success we received. I really got into position where he's going to hit that ring. Landry wasn't alone here, but this is a two-and-a-half-ton family car that's working. I mean, if it were electric, I guess it would be even more, but here we are. I'm really trying to push efficiency this is not the best place to start here are the testbeds I'm normally going through with Drive no just once yeah I just wanted to understand it breaks us it's not nice right yes it's working, wow yes it did.
It was not so. I'm surprised, I think they are the all season tires and they come loose in the front when we go through the easy part and then they just come loose in the rear, there you can't turn any stabilization. Outside of this, you're stuck in it, I really understood it when so much math is controlled. However, there are some lights and one of the lights is just refinement. This is a lovely place to travel. I won't have any complaints. It's not about getting big miles on this car, the infotainment system is the same on the new Range Rover and other cars we've seen, it works, no complaints, yes it's a little slow when it's cold, but basically it's a good screen, I like it. the way they have curved it because then you don't get the reflections that you get on a flat screen,It's a little overbearing I know but at least it connects very easily and doesn't fall out like they used to do with others as it's just the space is always a little small compared to the sports one, no so this one is full size no There are complaints about sitting in the back and you also have that monster boot, so the practical side is good, although they have removed the seven seater option on this one, it is only available as a five seater.
Oh, I've been through all those lights and I'm still not too sure about this car. It's a good car in isolation, but it doesn't feel like I would be a kind of pillar of the brand, so from this car it arrived in 2004 it rained for the first time the Range Rover Sport arrived it really made sense there was a radar in the back top there was a Defender they wanted someone to cover the space between the two Range Rover Sports and it flew and it was a very desirable kit of course the villars came out and also the new Defender and it's getting quite crowded for me in that space 70,100,000 in Land Rover Land and competes very closely with those two and no longer feels like a pillar of the brand. like, oh I have to do the Range Rover Sport, oh this is it and it's basically a junior Ranger, it's an alternative Range Rover, it's a good way to save twenty grand and, like I say, it's a good car I think that if they had really looked at it, they got out of that Range Rover Coupe and then it disappeared imagine if the Range Rover Sport was on top of the Range Rover now that's an interesting space, you have yours now we have the Aston dbx we have Ben Tega imagine the Range Rover Four door sport coupe sitting on top let's call it Range Rover Vitesse now, that sounds more attractive than some kind of slightly Junior Range Rover that is modified between Defender and Range Rover, so I'm not criticizing the car, but I think it's a missed opportunity, is very good.
It's going down the road, you're not going to complain and you were thinking the Range Rover is a bit expensive. Fine, just buy a Range Rover Sport, but don't expect it to have the dynamic ability that that bad suggestion

should

have if it's not a KN rival. It's too heavy, it's too luxurious, it just doesn't go like that on the road, it's compromised by its tires and its off-road capability and for that reason I can't say it's my favorite Range Rover that I still stick with. Full-size Range Rover, all Defender, so there you have it, that's my conclusion on the new Range Rover Sport.
