the driving experience, so I'll start with the basics. The ionic 6 shares its architecture and mechanics with the ionic 5, which is Hyundai's all-electric crossover and is essentially This car has a different body for people who would prefer an SUV to a sedan, which is what most people are today. nowadays, but it's not that the ionic 6 doesn't have competition.

More Interesting Facts About,

Its closest rival is the Tesla Mod 3, which of course is a tremendously popular car. and this stacks up reasonably well, the entry level ionic 6 has around 150 horsepower, not a lot, but a range of 240M and a starting price of around $43,000 which is pretty good, the level version mid has around 240 horsepower and up to 360m of range which is Awesome and at the top of the line you have 320mhp and a little over 300m of range. That version starts at around $54,000, so everything is in the mid-4-50k range in this car's lineup, and like I said, it adds up. pretty good compared to the Tesla Model 3, with one exception: there is no high-performance version of this car.

It can make the Tesla Model 3 Performance go from 0 to 60 in about 3 seconds. There isn't an ionic 6 that does that, at least not yet. The ionic 6 offers standard. rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive available if you want all-weather capabilities and it's quite a bit longer than a model 3, it's actually about 191 inches long, which is about 7 inches longer than a model 3, it's more into San de territory. midsize than compact like the model 3, in fact it's about the same length as a Toyota Camry about an inch shorter and a Honda Accord about 3 inches shorter, so the ionic 6 is definitely more midsize than small, but Although the price, performance and market positions seem pretty reasonable and well thought out, don't let this car fool you into thinking it's normal because it's not, it's very, very wonky, starting with the key, which is this one. , look closely and it's the Hyundai logo, the Hyundai H is the key fob design and in the negative space between the letter you have all the buttons on the key fob, which is quite clever and certainly

quirky

, but certainly the strangest thing about This car is the pixels, pixels, pixels, pixels, it's a theme of the ionic 5 crossover and I talked about it a lot.
2023 hyundai ioniq 6 full review cool quirky and under 50 000
Reviewing that car, but it's a much broader topic. Here let me show you what I mean, starting with the headlights, you can see the running lights, they are these square pixels that turn on the turn signal and become the square pixels that you are thinking of. Thats not all. weird well we're just warming up in the rear view mirror more pixels that's the turn signal of course turn it on and the pixels flash and then you get to the rear which is the mother load of pixels you can see a giant light bar that runs across the entire back of the car, all the pixels, little squares all the way to emphasize this design theme, the brake lights, the turn signals, the taillights, everything lights up back here on pixels, then you have this rather strange, 6-duct ion tail type rear spoiler. that sticks out from the sloping rear of this car again full of pixels which is strange and then you have it also on the bumper reflector and reverse lights down here there are all these little square pixels it's everywhere in the back and not only It stops with the lighting, the trunk release button that you can see has pixels, you press it and it opens.
Same goes for the little pixel on the charging port door opener where you're supposed to press to open it pixels pixels pixels a major theme of the ionic 6 but interestingly the pixels aren't the strangest thing about this car's exterior , that honor goes to the antenna on the roof, which is clear, look at it, you can see the similar mechanical components of this antenna, you know how the Ferrari works. The F430 has a transparent engine cover, you can see the big V8. Well this car doesn't have an engine so they thought what can we let people see through and the answer was the radio antenna which is very strange but anyway the next step is to move.
Stepping into the ionic 6, you walk up and notice that the door handles are flush with the body of the card, preserving its aerodynamics, but mostly just to look

cool

; However, if you approach with a key in your pocket, it feels it and the door handles come out as you approach the car, you don't even have to press anything and then you can pull the door handle and go straight up and, like You can imagine, there are some unusual quirks here, starting with the pixels on the steering wheel, which you don't have a Hyundai logo or ionic 6 of just four pixels, they look pretty normal, but they're not.
You press the drive mode button to enter sport mode and the pixels turn red to confirm you're in sport mode. Enter eco mode and they temporarily turn green to confirm that you are in eco mode. These pixels are not just static, they actually do things and probably other things as well while you drive and use this car. It's an interesting use of pixels now on the passenger side. On the dashboard you have more pixels, as you can see between the vents, some of them, but the most interesting thing is that the dashboard has wings that you can see on the edge, wings or ears that emerge from the sides of the dashboard for the driver and the passenger, which is certainly seen.
It's strange, I'm not sure why they are there, but they are also interesting in this interior: the TW Lev center console. The bottom one is just a giant storage area where you can put things, and of course the bottom part is lined with pixels. The top one has a lot of things - you might need a USB port, your cupholders are here, all the window switches, the door lock button, that sort of thing - but you'll notice there's no gear selector here on the center console and that is because it is on a cylinder head that comes out of the steering column, you can see it here as a thick cylinder head and the operation is unusual.
You turn the end of the stock to put it in gear, so you push it up and then you're in down gear and then you're in reverse park. There's a button at the end and of course you're guided through all of this with these little pixels telling you where to go with the stock because of course now you're an important feature in this interior - the screens, you have a caliber big. cluster screen and a central infotainment touch screen and they have some pros and cons, the big drawbacks of the infotainment screen in the middle number one, it incorporates heated seats, which is so annoying to put the heated seat in that you have to press a screen and the climate controls it, it brings up the heated seat menu and then you can raise or lower the heated seat temperature, it's so stupid, especially when you have so much space on the center console where you could have placed the seat controls with heating, including where the window switches could have been moved. those in the doors like any other car and had a simple heated seat button, this central screen would have made much more sense.
I also don't like the home screen, which is this one and it doesn't really give you that much information, but it takes up a lot of space it doesn't display like a functional map it's supposed to be interesting, theoretical and fun but it's not really useful it's definitely one of the worst home screens on all infotainment systems, but other than that there are many What I like about this infotainment system is that it is very responsive, you swipe and tap, it responds instantly to all your commands, you zoom on the map, it does everything you want which is great, basically the responsiveness of a smartphone and I like the fact that you can have two panel screens.
Then you have the radio and the map on two screens, you can see them at the same time and you don't have to go back to each screen to adjust things and leave where you were. It's a nice feature and I like how configurable it is. The gauge cluster again also has a large display and also some drawbacks, and in this case I think there are more drawbacks than benefits. The biggest one is that it's not as configurable for this futuristic screen and this twisted modern car. You think they'd let you do more with this. The screen won't even show you the music you're listening to, you can't open it and it won't even show you a full screen map like many other cars do.
Instead you can only adjust a few things and it appears here in the center, not full screen which is disappointing, many other brands allow you to change the entire layout of this, prioritize what you want to see your music, your phone, your map, whatever, you can't do that in this car and it's a shame. However, it shows the acceleration in an interesting way. You can see I speed up. It shows these bars as rising as I add speed. It's kind of the modern equivalent of a tachometer. I guess in an electric car that's the new way to show that.
Another interesting element worth mentioning is the screens I like. If you press this button here on the central control stack, the P button with the camera appears on the screen, so if you're trying to park somewhere you want. You see the camera but have not reversed to activate it automatically. That button activates it instantly. Unfortunately, on this relatively low-end ionic 6 base model you only get that backup camera, but the nicer versions have more camera tech than you probably should. Get them if you like cameras, but speaking of technology in this car, despite it being a relatively basic ionic 6 SE, they have driver assist and it works very well.
The adaptive cruise control slows down and speeds up based on the car in front of you, that's nice. standard, but this car also has steering assist and will guide you through curves on the highway. It does a great job of keeping you in your lane and can largely stay away. The good thing about this system is that it can be working. the pedals while driving automatically pretty much every other car requires you to be in full adaptive cruise mode for the steering to engage but here you can't have the pedals going but the steering of the car which is unusual and really nice in some situations.
Really good driver assistance technology, even in this relatively basic car model. That being said, one feature that is definitely missing from this relatively basic car model is the blind spot cameras on many modern Hyundai and Kia models. You put on the turn signal and a camera appears. The gauge cluster shows you what's in your blind spot, making lane changes much easier. It's a great feature. It's not on this ionic 6. You have to get a better fit to get the blind spot cameras and frankly I wish they were really useful. and it's worth spending a couple of grand extra to get those and probably a few other features.
Not having them is really a shame and is a big selling point of modern Hyundais and Kias. Next we move on to the back of the ionic 6, the rear seat. Which, frankly, is huge, there's a ton of room back here, especially for a midsize sedan the size of a Camry. I have a real full-size sedan with leg and knee room back here. Tall people will love the rear of this car. It's pretty impressive for the size segment. Headroom is a little less, so taller people might hit their heads on the roof because of the teardrop shape of this car, but I bet you won't mind because the legroom is so nice that you basically lie back here, it's so luxurious and the reason why They're able to do that in the typical size of a midsize sedan.
It's all about packaging. There's no engine in the front pushing the passenger compartment back, so they can use that space to lengthen the interior and make it spacious. There really is a lot here. of space and a few other elements worth noting, it has two USB C ports back here for charging therear passenger devices, which is good, and directly above some air vents, which is nice to see even in this car with a relatively low equipment level, some dedicated climate for the rear seat. vents so you're not just at the mercy of the air reaching the back seat, that's good, other than that there's not much going on in the back seat of this Ionic 6, although if you're lying here charging your device, you win.
I don't care, but I will point out that there is a distinct lack of pixels back here, so many passengers on the outside and in the front rear cannot enjoy a pixelated experience, what a shame, and finally we move on to the trunk, the storage area. burden. In the ionic 6 you press the pixel button and the trunk opens automatically and surprisingly you have pretty good space back here so again there is great packaging in this car. They figured out how to add space, add interior space where it really mattered, including the trunk and its decent size.
You also have these little tabs to lower the rear seats, which is a very convenient feature to have in the trunk. You have some big, heavy object you're trying to carry and you don't want to go to the seats and put them down. It's nice to be able to do that from back here, you can also lift the boot floor and get a little bit more storage here as you can see, and if you want even more storage, you've got it in the front, you can open it up. the front trunk and there's a little storage compartment up here, it's not huge, you don't have a lot of room for stuff, but you can put some items in there if you want to carry cables, things like that, now the other thing worth talking to This car's design is quite interesting, it's definitely not conventional.
For a mid-size sedan, although electric vehicles take so many interesting design risks these days, it's not particularly unusual or strange. This teardrop shape with that rear wing back there would have looked strange maybe five years ago, but today it just works. For an electric car, they all stand out in their own way and this certainly does, although it loses some of the boxy 80s modernism that the ionic 5 crossover has, the six is more modern, perhaps a little more conventional and has a design more slippery. Traditional teardrop shape, the two cars definitely don't have much in common, except for the pixels.
Okay, driving the ionic six. This is the meat of this video, as I've done a walkthrough before in a different video, as I mentioned now. Another interesting one. The thing about this ionic 6 compared to the other one I reviewed, this is a pretty basic model, it's a low-end SE model, it's probably a low to mid-priced $40,000 vehicle, unlike what manufacturers typically Of cars they send me with the top of the line model, which is great because I can show you all the quirks and features, but it's not necessarily representative of what people actually buy, so this one from the mid-40s has been interesting see what cloth seats are without a sunroof, but you still get some nice things like good driver assistance. uh the power trunk was a surprise to me, it's a relatively good spec car even if you get the base spec.
I wish it had more cameras, so let's talk about driving experience and I'll frame it with the ionic 5 because I think a lot of people will consider both vehicles, as they should mechanically, they are very similar, essentially identical, except that the ionic 5 sits and To me that's one of the strange things about this car: the six people no longer want sedans. They want SUVs and as a result I think the five will be a much more popular selection. However, this car has some desirable attributes, including some of its oddities. I think that will go over well with people who don't really like us today. and it's okay, but this one is peculiar, maybe I'll try it, so how does it work?
The answer is reasonably well, honestly, very similar to the SUV that powers the ionic 5, that is, quiet, easy, reasonably powerful, this one is quite underpowered. but you can get them up to 320 horsepower, which is a pretty good number, and of course any version of this car has the instant torque that comes with an EV, which is nice, the noise from the tires, the noise from the Road is a little rougher, but totally reasonable for a car. At this price, it feels calm and comfortable, not too sporty or harsh. Not at all, as much as we imagine it, if anything, it is in the opposite direction, where it is a bit soft, so enthusiasts may not be attracted to at least this level of equipment. but you have a nice comfortable ride and now you feel like I mentioned before.
The driver assistance technology is excellent in this car, it does a lot of the driving for you, steering, braking, accelerating, which is also nice to see in a car at this price. Honestly there isn't much to say about the driving experience of this car, although that was what I expected the most as I had already made a video of the ride, the driving experience is exactly what you would expect, it's not like fast or crazy or different in any way it drives like a midsize, frankly I think it's a little more comfortable and a little more solid feeling than the last few Camrys and Accords I've been in those cars can get a little clunky and feel It feels a bit cheap and this is not the case, but its starting price is also considerably higher.
It's definitely on a higher level than vehicles like that, but as a sort of slightly upscale midsize sedan, it's a great car. Again, great interior space here, sitting in the driver's seat, good headroom, good legroom, kneeroom, all that, good visibility, you can see despite the teardrop shape, you have mirrors great, it's a good car, it's not particularly exciting, crazy or exciting. The car is more exciting because of how it looks and some of the weird things they've integrated, like the Hyundai key and all the pixels that drive it, don't give you the same, what is this?
Although I suspect the top trims would be quite exciting and quite fun, they don't match the performance of the Model 3, but they would probably still be quite powerful, but anyway, it's just a good car here, it's not crazy, it's not over the top, but it's nice, it's reasonable, it's comfortable, it's easy, it's a good car to drive and a good midsize sedan, especially when your focus is interior space and obviously getting a good electric car, and that's the

2023

Hyundai ionic 6, this is a cool and good car, I suspect most people will buy the SUV version, the ionic 5, there is a lot to like here if you want an electric sedan, especially a cool and interesting one, and now it's time to hit the ionic 6 a score from Doug and Doug's score is 56 out of 100, which puts the ionic 6 here against similar electric cars in the bottom half against this competition, the truth is that I like the ionic 6, but I'm not exactly sure what its advantages are over the ionic 5.
The five costs about the same and has much more interior space for cargo and passengers, and most people will surely prefer the look of the five is the same as the Kia ev6 6, which is similar to the ionic 5 and has similar advantages. The ionic 6 is a great electric car for people who prefer a sedan, but there's a reason most automakers have opted for a crossover for their first EVs, as most car buyers They seem to prefer SUVs these days over ANS.
