luxury

sedan in 2011, which then morphed into the Genesis g90 in 2017. As you can see, this week we're testing two of the newest. Uber's flagship luxury

sedans

, you basically can't go wrong. Until somewhat subjective, here both brands essentially represent what their car manufacturers are doing in terms of their designs. The S-Class, as you know, was introduced in 2021 and is basically the basis for all other Mercedes-Benz sedans, so we have the Mercedes-Benz corporate grille, this is the only Ben model that also has the Mercedes-Benz trim.

Three pointed star floating above the hood and you can see where all the s-cos are coming. All S-Class models will soon come with full LED headlights including an LED daytime running light and LED turn signals with LED high and low beams. These are also adaptive headlights that rotate and have an automatic high beam function. This particular one also has the AMG line which includes a slightly more aggressive front end. There is a lot of chrome. on the front of this vehicle it is definitely much brighter. You can also get an AMG Night Package to darken the chrome, which I highly recommend.

This dark emerald pearl green looks black until the sunlight hits it and then shines with this beautiful dark green tone now in contrast, the Genesis Genesis has been trying to find its identity in recent years and this boldly carries its latest elements design that we have also seen in the gb70, the gv80 and the G80 sedan. The company's bold Crest Grill here is front and center, actually giving me cues that it's like a Bentley, except I actually think it looks better than many Bentley products. It has the signature Genesis Wing logo there with a newer design.

It has its two lines. headlights that are full LED. Genesis actually says these are the slimmest two-line headlights they've ever made along with more diamond patterns on the actual grille, there are no fog lights on either vehicle and in terms of the front fascias, this model here you can I don't get it with a sports package or anything like that, so if you want a little more customization, if you want to black out elements and things like that, you're going to want to go with the Mercedes because they only offer those sports. packages and those night packages to give it a little more custom look from the side profile you can really see how big these two luxury sedans are.
Both are about 208 inches long, although technically the Mercedes is about an inch long. Longer than the Genesis at 208.7 inches long, this is still around 207.7 inches long. Both have a wheelbase of around 125 inches for this model and 126 inches for the S-Class. Note that there are longer versions of both vehicles if you want. something like the Mercedes Maybach that is going to lengthen it by about eight inches. Genesis in Korea also offers a longer wheelbase version which also lengthens it by about seven and a half inches, but they still have a striking presence and really in terms of design from the side profile I personally think the Mercedes looks a bit more aerodynamic.
I noticed that the spaces are a little tighter in this vehicle and I also like the sleeker silhouette of this car. Now, in contrast, Genesis also has something unique. In some ways you can also tell that the profile is more boxy, this one here gives me more Bentley and Rolls-Royce vibes, but you really can't go wrong with either of these vehicles and they have a ton of features. Also, to make these vehicles stand out when you look at them from the side profile and so you can see the wheels a little closer, let's go ahead and take a look at the rims they're wearing. the S-Class, these are the 21-inch wheels you get with the AMG line.
Mercedes offers five different wheel options. You can see the rotors are huge, they're like 15-inch cross-drilled six-piston calipers with a staggered setup for the tires if you don't like the shiny silver finish, they also offer an AMG Night Package that will also black out the inner spokes, so if you want more wheel options, you'll obviously want to go for the Mercedes now, as opposed to the Genesis. It only offers the option of two different wheels for now, these are the 21-inch wheels you get with the e-supercharged model. You can see that the brakes are slightly smaller 14.2-inch rotors with a copper-painted four-piston caliper, not as big as the curves, but still very impressive looking.
The only thing I really like about the Genesis is the fact that it has a clamshell style hood that goes all the way to the fender, whereas the Mercedes doesn't really. To do that, you have a fender that looks a little more traditional and then you also have this really cool design element here with the two lines for the integrated LED turn signals. There is nothing here in the side mirrors, while when cornering you can see it. There is no break here along the flowing lines of the fender, instead they traditionally just put the turn signal mirror here on the side mirrors and then you can see here that the panoramic glass roof is also included;
There are actually two twin panels on the inside of the curves. to separate the two, which is pretty much the same on the Genesis, you also get a panoramic glass sunroof which also gives you the ability to open and close both front and rear curtains and as you can see, that's my lovely fiancé . Keith is just having fun from the back seat of this car while getting a massage, so from the front and side profile, both sedans have a unique look to each of them, however, from the back, actually, I see some similarities in the design of the rear lights.
I mean, obviously you're not going to confuse the two with each other, but they have a similar shape to the actual taillight design, like a triangular look, they're both full LED, and Genesis, as you can see, boldly spells its name on the back. rear instead of putting the shield logo and you also have that distinctive Twin Blade LED light bar that you see on the front and on the side, everything is carried on top, that's all. Very consistent look with the actual vehicle and below here you can see that the rear bumper has an integrated exhaust tip which also mimics the crest shape found on the front of this car.
Now in contrast the Mercedes has a large chrome strip that runs along the side is the three pointed star badge which is proudly supplied and then you can see here the

s580

to show that this is the higher performance version with the V8 and then you can see that the exhaust tips are all nice and integrated, as well as you will notice that there is some Chrome on the lower front fascia which you will also find on the jet. Note that you can also black out that Chrome if you choose to get the AMG Knight package now, from this angle here you can really see how fat the tires are on both cars, the Mercedes technically has wider 285s in the rear versus the 275s on the rear for the Genesis, you have 245 in the front for the Genesis and two 55 in the front for cornering.
I also forgot to mention both. These cars have adaptive air suspension and four-wheel steering; However, the Mercedes allows you to turn the rear wheels up to four and a half degrees in this AMG line and 10 degrees in other models, while the Genesis has rear wheel steering, it only comes in this model with the supercharger and only manages to turn one degree and a half, so not that much, but let's go ahead and talk about the trunk capacity of both vehicles. You can see that both have a power-closed and opened trunk lid, which is basically what you expect in a vehicle of this size category; however, the trunk capacity in the Mercedes is a little larger, with just under 13 cubic feet of storage space, the seats don't fold down but you have a step which is nice and then If you look down here, there's a little bit of Underfloor storage, there is a Fix-A-Flat kit, so this is the larger trunk between the two because, in contrast, the Genesis offers just under 11 cubic feet (about 10.9), it's actually a little smaller on this one. model versus the non-supercharged version, but even so 10.9 seems small, it is relatively usable.
I'm noticing that the floor, however, is a little higher so it's not as deep there and you can see that my fiancé is still there. There is a pass. -Through that, it allows you to extend and place larger items in there, however, the seat itself does not fold and underneath here there is not as much storage space. There is no spare tire on this model, you only get a repair. flight kit, however, you will get a replacement if you opt for the base finish. These are expensive and stylish luxury sedans, so the exterior is fine. Let's go ahead and talk about the interior of these vehicles, the first thing I want to show you here. is the Mercedes remote control, you can see this is your current remote control, it includes your smart entry smart key, you can also use your phone as a key, you can also use a fingerprint scanner once you enter the vehicle, but you can see the Mercedes comes with these type of pop up door handles that when the vehicle is locked, they pop back in if you want to unlock the door, they retract, which can be a little tricky at times when I was testing and experiencing it.
I was for a week, but my tester, which you can see here, has the standard black interior that goes well with this emerald green, although I'd probably choose the Sienna brown interior to contrast the dark green that looks black in certain lights. This is the standard leather, if you want to upgrade to the premium Napa leather, it will cost you around four thousand dollars extra. These seats adjust I think 21 different ways, they are also heated and ventilated with a massage function. Look, there's also a pillow that comes in both front headrests and you also get three-person memory on both the driver and front passenger sides.
The ambient lighting on this car also looks great. You guys are looking at this interior so I'm just going to briefly touch on the base and now as you get in you can see the step height is low and this is a sedan and then when you want to close the door the Mercedes doesn't have a automatic software or does not have a has an automatic closing function, it has a soft closing function, but you have to reach out and then pull the door in. If I just click on it you can hear the door close softly, that's what you expect from a vehicle of this price. period, if I slam it shut, the door has a really solid Funk sound, which adds to the impression of quality.
Now, unlike the eight eqs, its electric sedan, the S-Class doesn't offer its huge hyperscreen, so it has a 12.3-inch screen instead. here and a 12.8 inch screen here this is part of their mbux infotainment system it has wireless apple carplay and android auto you can see it's a very beautiful screen. I like the way it's oriented, it's just within reach of the driver. with this huge 12.3 inch screen that has 3D effects again, this is all very very nice, the interior itself is pretty much one of the best interiors you will find in the luxury space, it has real leather stitching throughout.
The upper part has metal details for the dashboard ventilation grilles. I also really like the design with the four vents. More leather stitching along the door panels. These buttons here are a little controversial because they don't actually move. It's actually haptic, you just have to press it a little bit and that will start to adjust the seat. You can see you have heated and ventilated seats, massaging seats, you can also use the window controls here, which feel very high quality. touch screen, you have four, you have automatic up and down for all four, you have electric retractable mirrors, which is everything you expect.
I love the ambient lighting on this car, it's active ambient lighting and you can change it depending on the mood you want. It's on the steering wheel, you can see it's Power Tilt and telescoping. I don't love the piano black plastic on the steering wheel. Here this AMG line has the three-spoke steering wheel. The horn sounds good, it sounds appropriate considering the size of this vehicle. and then a lot of the stored turn signals, the switch here feels very high quality and then this here, the wireless card playback that you can see, it takes up the entire screen, something the Genesis doesn't have, is the wireless playback of the car Hyundai and Kia refused to do that, it's a little frustrating when I put the vehicle in reverse, you can see there is the backup camera, whose sunlight is quite bad.
Let me go ahead and close it. You can see this electric retractable blind. a retractable shutter for the back if you want to press a button here that will close it, but now that I've closed it, you can see the resolution and the quality of the camera looks fantastic. Mercedes is one of the best in the business, you can also change it to show different views which again is really impressive, it's what I expect from a car that wears the three pointed star badge. Here you can see there's your fingerprint scanner, your dynamic mode dials on top of it. here the driving mode selector Mercedes offers a choice of five different modes which we will talk about later during the driving scene, you can see there are a couple of shortcut buttons here where you can raise and lower the suspension and you can access the driver. assistance of this car and then if you want to turn on the massage seat you have to go here and go to comfort and you can turn it on from here there you can see there are all these different types of massages.
My favorite is to activate the massage. You can also turn the intensity down to a standard or just a higher intensity and you can see there's all your different options for ambient lighting and whatnot, there's the factory GPS which again looks really cool. You also have augmented reality GPS that you can also. unfortunately the wood grain that you can see is this is the standard free wood it's a little bit too shiny for my taste and then if you open the glove box here you can see that's where your fragrance thing will be found in your container for that and then the glove box that you can see is dampened and lined with felt, the headliner has some sort of woven material, it doesn't have microfiber chamois.
I really think if you upgrade the leather it might be worth the extra charge, but again, it's pretty expensive, four thousand dollars, it has a wireless phone charging pad here, USB charging ports and then there's a storage console here along with a lot of piano black plastic. essentially just collecting fingerprints, so I'm not sure I'm in love with this, but overall the S-Class cabin is definitely still one of my favorites. You just wouldn't have it in this very dark black interior, but it has all the technology you would like, this particular model just doesn't have it.
It's missing a couple of key options like the front display and upgraded leather, but overall this is a really high benchmark to start with, so let's move on. and get into the Genesis and compare it after getting out of the Mercedes-Benz S Class, let's go ahead and take a look inside the g90, first of all, here is the remote control of the vehicle, you can see that it is very different from the Obviously, Mercedes too It has a few more buttons where you can also start it remotely from the controller. You can also move and advance the vehicle through its smart parking function.
This is just better for those of you who don't want to use your smartphone as a key, you can still do it in this vehicle where you can actually use your smartphone as a key, you can text the key and you can also use the Genesis app Link or your smartphone app where you can also access the vehicle and simply Like the Mercedes, this car also has retractable door handles, which is again fast becoming the norm for this segment. Now the Mercedes has a black interior, it's not my first choice, the Genesis has a burgundy interior and I must say if you are waiting it doubles down to have an interior quality that just blows it out of the water.
You're going to be very wrong here because Genesis is building world class vehicles. Now you can see the seats. These are premium Apple leather. They adjust 18 different ways for the driver 16 for the passenger technically the curves only adjust 12 ways that's what my Mercedes says on their website. You can see that it lacks the pillows you get in the corners, but these have heating, ventilation and massage. You have memory for three people in each seat. Again, the Mercedes only gives you that on the two front seats and then on the door panels, you can see beautiful wood, real leather, metal controls, 23 speakers, Olufsen stereo system which is standard, you have to spend an extra $6,500 in the curves to improve them.
Burmester sound system so again there is a ton of value in a vehicle like this, now getting into the Mercedes it has soft closing doors which is nice but in the Genesis you can literally press a button and that closes the door like a Rolls -Royce and when you want to open the door, you just press another button and that will open the door slightly and you push it out and if you forget to close the button, just put your foot on the brake when you go to start the car. and that will also close the door for you when you start the vehicle, you will be able to see everything come to life.
You have a Tilton electric telescoping steering wheel. You get a beautiful infotainment system where the dashboard actually has two 12-inch screens. They are 12.3 inch screens, however the orientation and Genesis are different, it's more landscape style versus portrait style, let me know in the comments below what you prefer, but again, premium materials throughout have a beautiful ambient lighting. I will say the Benz has better ambient lighting at night compared to this car, it just looks a little more intricate, it looks a little more, it has attention to detail, but you can still adjust the colors in multiple colors, it also has a screen front that the Benz did not have.
Do you have leather stitching and real wood and carbon fiber? It's like a carbon fiber look wood on the inside and you can see here that the dashboard vent looks a little different. There are beautiful controls with metal accents. You have controls on the steering wheel. You have an interchangeable screen. here and then you have this type of glass control for the shifter when I put the vehicle in reverse, you can see there is your full 360 degree camera, which also gives you several different views, if you want, you can also do a perimeter scan, so that's pretty much what you expect.
I say the quality of the camera resolution is similar to the Mercedes and you also get a cabin air purifier and an air fragrance system along with a mood curator which is the same thing that Benz offers with all their different vitalities and all that. You can adjust the scene inside. You can see there are cup holders here. Nice padded leather. Stitched center console area. Charging pad for wireless phones. Mercedes-like graphics, although with Genesis it doesn't work, it's augmented reality GPS, this is essentially the same thing you find in Hyundai, so I think it could have been better, but overall this is like me being picky , you even have this really. cool 3D setup here where you can do sort of a 360 perimeter scan of the vehicle here all of this is really next level stuff so it's really amazing to me to see here on the center console our center console you can see this.
It opens two different ways, there are two USBC charging ports, one 12 volt, it's a pretty decent sized storage compartment. I will say that Benz has slightly more comfortable seats because of the pillow and I think the seats feel a little more comfortable. on the Mercedes, but I also like the cornering active side bolsters that you get in the corners, the Hyundai or the Genesis will squeeze you in a little bit, but they don't really turn you in or squeeze you in when you're actually going into the corners, which is It's quite nice to open this up, you can see the glove box is cushioned in line with the felt, it's a pretty decent size and then unlike the curves, we have this really nice kind of Alcantara on the headliner that you can get as part again of an additional option.
The grip panels here are also stitched in leather. So this has a lot more value in this car and is very hard to ignore, even though the Mercedes is a Mercedes, this to me feels just as nice and is really what I expect from something outside. from Lexus, so the fact that Genesis is doing it and they're undercutting it and offering really interesting color options like this really shows how far the Koreans have come starting from the back seat in the new S-Class. You can see that my testers. the AMG line, which means you can't get it with the executive rear seat package on the executive line for an extra eight thousand dollars, you can get a warmth and comfort package for four thousand dollars, but my test vehicle lacks the that the S-Class has.
There's a ton of legroom, there's about 44 inches of legroom back here, which is about five inches more compared to what you get in the Genesis and you're really going to notice the space. here once you get in and close the door, which by The way the door has a soft close feature, which is what you expect if you slam it too, it has a nice solid slam, but it's someone who measures five feet seven. I mean, this is like a limo, guys. I mean, there's a lot of room back here. like a full size pickup truck and you also have this beautiful active ambient lighting where you can change the color again.
My tester is missing heated and ventilated rear seats with memory function and power function for four thousand dollars. I think it's definitely worth it. It's also missing its own set of rear climate controls, as you can see, there's a big hole here where it would have to you can see here, there are air vents on the rear seats over here and of course on this side I like how too. open and close. the vents, the buttons feel really solid and high quality, they have storage pockets on both front seat backs, there is a bit of storage here again, they could also get a wireless charging pad for phones I think that if you go with that package, my tester is missing that it has two USBC charging ports and a 115-volt household outlet, which is nice and then like I said before, there's a sunshade back here that you can open and close via this button here or it looks like open this one, there's another button here on the passenger side, but it can let in a lot of light and you can also open and close these retractable power curtains, so at least that's standard, but again I recommend it I highly recommend you if you are going. for this car to go and spend that four grand on the warmth and comfort package and then if you really want to go all out to show off what the Genesis has got you have to spend another 10 grand to go with the receipt package executive that only comes in the executive line now looks at the rear seat of the Genesis, unlike the Mercedes, which lacks much in this model.
Here it comes standard with its executive rear seat package. Now I will say that the Benz has about five inches more legroom, this one has about 38 inches. of legroom compared to 45 or 44 inches, which is very noticeable when I first open the door. I mean, obviously, this is where I have the driving seat. There's still plenty of room, but the Mercedes Genesis offers more space. wheelbase model in other markets but not here in the US but regardless coming back here you can still see plenty of room for someone my height and if I want you can try to reach to close this but If you fold it here, most of you will probably do it anyway.
There is a button I can press that will automatically close the door with a soft close feature. You can see that there are retractable electric blinds that you also have in the Mercedes and you also have ventilation controls in the back seat. You can see there's some beautiful, beautiful ambient lighting illuminating the wood with that carbon fiber texture. You have controls here for your memory controls. You can also press this reclining button here which will automatically recline the seat as far as you can. Don't push this seat forward like you can on the passenger side. You can see that there is also an eight-inch screen here, there is also a small charging port for USBC and a voltage of 12 voltsalong with the rear seat air vents, most of you probably will.
Find a lot of use in this where you can adjust the massage, lighting, curtains, climate functions and you can also adjust the radio controls from the back here and you can also adjust the backrest of your seat here. You can see that these seats basically allow you to recline them back, there's a really nice soft pillow back here that's part of an accessory package that this car has that's optional. You can get all of this in the Mercedes again for ten grand more. Curves, I think they can also give you. some merciful entertainment screens, but overall at this price you can't argue with the fact that the Genesis offers you a lot here where you can feel super comfortable and use it almost like a chauffeur-style vehicle now under the hood of the 80s.
Both vehicles They couldn't be more different, both are still internal combustion vehicles, obviously Mercedes has an electric version. Genesis promises an electric version in the next few years, but let's go ahead and start first with what powers the Genesis now under the hood of the g90 this is the top engine they are offering for now it is known as the g90 3.5t with the E supercharger, meaning we have a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 augmented by a 48-volt mild hybrid system that also powers an electric supercharger, this essentially replaces the old 5-liter V8 from the previous generation and makes 409 horsepower and 405 lb-ft of torque through an 8-speed automatic transmission.
All-wheel drive will be standard and fuel economy is rated at 6 17 in the city 24 on the highway premium gas will be required and Genesis claims it has a top speed of around 130 miles per hour. The curb weight is also a bit heavier, especially for the segment, at around 52,200 pounds in contrast to the Mercedes offering a choice between two powertrains, like in the Genesis, either an s-500 which has a three-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine or this model, the s580, which combines a 4-liter twin-turbo V8 with a 48-volt mild hybrid system. For now, the top-of-the-line engine that Mercedes-Benz offers in the S-Class generates 496 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque.
The fact that Mercedes still offers a V8 will definitely become rarer and rarer. Note that they offer an electric version of this called eqs. A 9-speed automatic transmission, 4matic all-wheel drive will be standard and fuel economy is 16 city and 25 highway, so it's about the same as the six-cylinder Genesis, although this is again a V8. Mercedes says it has top speed. It's around 130 miles per hour and you should get to 60 in around 4.4 seconds, which will obviously be quicker compared to the Genesis. The good thing about cornering is that it has more power and it's also so light that it weighs around 4,700 pounds, so to start the driving scene between these two Uber luxury flagship sedans, I'm going to start with the S-Class because you guys have told me heard it said over and over again.
This is the benchmark that was the seventh generation S-Class. I introduced it about two years ago and was very impressed with this car, it constantly reminds me why Mercedes Bill is one of the best luxury sedans money can buy now that we are driving the s580 which is technically a notch above the g90 which Genesis has and which is currently at the top of its line, I should drive an S500 but that's what Mercedes sent me and to be honest the price difference isn't that much when you look at an S500 or an S580, so we'll go ahead and I'll start with the V8 version, uh, and I want to remind myself how good this car is.
I mean the air suspension just makes you feel how solid it goes on the road and with the four wheel steering it just feels much smaller than the actual size of the car. I also love that three pointed star right on the front of the hood, it makes you feel special when you drive this car and that's the point. about an S Class is that it makes you feel very special now I want to test the 0-60 performance this car gets to 60 and about 4.4 seconds that's what Mercedes claims but let's see if we can do better than that oh this thing just feels so quick off the line oh good noise too wow 4.16 seconds about almost half a second faster than Mercedes' claim which doesn't surprise me, German manufacturers always tend to be a bit conservative on as for the noise and the effortless feel.
Remember this V8 is a 4 liter twin turbo that makes 496 horsepower and has a 48 volt mild hybrid system and that basically fills in the gaps that a turbocharged engine would give you while you wait for the turbos to kick in so this essentially it has very little to no lag, the responsiveness is almost instantaneous from the electric car and this car overall to me feels much more solid and special compared to the eqs and the eqs are fine but that's just how the Mercedes is Uber luxury, oh god. this just takes off, especially once the turbos kick in at 4.38 seconds, this is a bit more uphill now.
I don't suspect the Genesis will be anywhere near as fast as this one. I suspect the Genesis will probably be almost a second slower. um, but we'll find out when we get behind the wheel of that car, but my goodness, what a benchmark to set in this new S-Class, it's so damn good now that you're driving normally. I mean, most people don't. I'm not going to put my foot down on this car's 0-60 performance, that's just for my demonstration purposes. Even when the car is in Sport Plus at the moment, the air suspension firms up the bolsters here in the seats.
I can actually set them to hug me. Every time I turn left or right, they will hug the corresponding side to keep you planted in place. The steering on this car is also very quick, it's direct, it has a surprisingly decent feel and the car itself is so quiet, I mean even when you put your foot down here the V8 has a very muted and understated tone, it just It feels effortless, it feels expensive, it feels exquisite, it feels like it belongs in an iconic luxury sedan and I have spent some time in the S500 and really liked the turbo inline six-cylinder engine with the mild hybrid system.
Honestly, you don't need the V8. The six-cylinder is only half a second slower than this. I think I got 4.8 seconds or 4.7 seconds in that vehicle, um, you buy the V8 for bragging rights, uh, and the acceleration a little quicker, even though there's only a seven grand price difference. What I also love about this car is the four wheel steering, it turns almost five degrees. and it just makes this car feel smaller than it is God this thing is so fast it's amazing how fast this car is and it makes me wonder do you know Mercedes is already going to make an AMG version of this car.
I mean, this is just as fast. Like the previous generation amgs that had the four-liter V8 or the twin-turbo, the 5.5 with rear-wheel drive, this one is basically as fast with its 4matic all-wheel drive system, this quick-shifting 9-speed automatic that simply takes care of your business. Very good, the seats are very comfortable, the visibility in this car is also very good. I'm shocked, like the S-Class for me, even though it's been on the market for two years, it's so good and heavy. a sedan that weighs 5000 pounds shouldn't move that fast, but it does and that's the whole point of this class is that you can load it up with people, you can go down your favorite back road or you can go down your favorite interstate or highway to For example, This thing will cruise at triple digit speeds all day long and makes you feel so special.
I mean, look at the way it handles, it's incredibly compliant and so nimble for something that's so big. I'm sitting here getting a massage there's a perfume wafting through the cabin oh this is a really very difficult benchmark to set but that's the S-Class it's always been that benchmark that sets that so Genesis They have their work cut out for them if There is one thing that the V8 reduces is the fuel economy in this car, it is rated at 16.25 and in my week's testing I have averaged around 18.5 MPG so again, not great MPG, don't expect this to get wonderful MPG, um.
However, the six-cylinder gets better MPG on the highway. I was able to get around 24, so it's pretty decent, but let's go ahead and jump to the Genesis because I want to see if that car can really keep up after leaving. the benchmark is fine so after getting out of the Mercedes-Benz S Class I'm driving the g90 with the electric supercharger, technically it's more comparable to an S500 but I don't own an S500 but let's go ahead and see what we can. get 0-60 I got 4.1 seconds or this way I got 4.4 on the s580 let's go ahead and see what I can get on the Genesis.
Wow, 4.98 seconds there, so compared to the Mercedes, which has a twin-turbo V8 in mind. it's only half a second slower than cornering on this same stretch of road, it's a little over half a second slower, so for most people you won't notice that difference, what you will notice is the sound of the engine it has the Genesis. a V6, while the Mercedes has a V8, that V8 is obviously what you know is going to make the noise that most people will like, but again, this V6 also has a pretty good sound, so I don't discredit for having two fewer cylinders.
Performance is pretty similar and most luxury buyers won't notice that half-second deficit, but right after we get out of the S-Class, let me talk about the way the Genesis pulls up or down the road. the quality is as good as the S Class which is shocking, we have that multi-corner air suspension with adaptive dampers, we also have rear wheel steering and this car definitely noticed that the Mercedes is a little better tuned for more dynamics sporty, I mean. Mercedes has more experience with this. I was hoping it would also have the AMG line because it handles and rides a little better, but does that necessarily matter in this segment?
I mean, if you're an enthusiast, you'll probably want to corner it's faster it handles better it's a little sportier it feels a little tighter this car feels a little more cruiser but it's not horrible it's not like I'm going to getting sick doesn't make me feel nauseous driving it, the steering just doesn't speak to you as much, you feel the extra weight of this car, plus the S Class weighs about 300 pounds less than this car. I put my foot here, responsive, eight speed, the supercharger with 48 volt mild hybrid system really delivers the torque instantly, but you feel the noticeable deficit there, at higher speeds the Benz will pull away from this car all the time just because it's more or it's just the faster car with better tuning and more power so that's a fact but in terms of visibility you know you can see very well from both cars.
I don't feel like I'm driving a car where I have to make compromises. This car feels everyone like As nice as the S-Class, the seats are also very comfortable. I'd say the Mercedes has slightly more comfortable seats only because Genesis doesn't put a pillow in the front headrest, which just adds to the premium feel of the four. The steering wheel really helps turn this vehicle around that sharper turn. I changed the drive mode to comfort there and noticed that it's not as responsive, which is normal when you have it in this type of mode, but I'm sitting here getting a massage.
Also, I will say that the Benz massage actually feels more like kneading, it feels more like a moving air chamber and it's like adjusting the firmness and position of it, it still feels good, but I think the curves have a slight more pleasant massage feel again, this is all up to your exact taste, some of you may prefer the massage function on the Mercedes or then the Genesis versus the Mercedes, but in terms of seat comfort, this Vehicle also does not have those active boosters when I start to turn a corner, cornering will inflate the booster in the other direction to keep me planted in place a little longer.
I like that and I also noticed a couple other things: The interior of this car is full of premium materials like the Mercedes. but the Benz has availability of things like if you want, if you are on a cold day, now that we are in the middle of autumn, the armrest pads and the door arm pads get hot in the containers, that is something that does not is offered. in the Genesis though, this car has the executive rear seat package which is standard, it's like 10k extra in the Mercedes which is so sterile, the one I have to try right now is missing all of that and in terms of driver assistance, I would say both are equally on par, the Genesis hascool features like that blind view camera, which is really cool, all that stuff, and in terms of fuel economy, I got about one to two MPG better in the Mercedes than I did in this car, so that's something to keep in mind considering that the car has a V8.
I'm surprised that the Benz with its V8 gets better gas mileage, but it will all come down to weight and probably tuning - the Mercedes has a 9-speed Auto versus the 8. Speed up the Benz's transmission shifts a little faster. I noticed that it was a little more responsive at times compared to the eight speed in this car. This isn't bad, it's just that when you drive the cars one after the other you start to notice those differences and everything, but these cars are still surprisingly close and similar. I mean, there was a time when you couldn't even compare a Genesis, a Hyundai to a Mercedes, but now we live in a world where Genesis is building these world-class luxury cars and they're going to continue. to make this decision even more difficult when I have to choose two or choose between these two at the end of this video, so after spending the day with the new

genesis

g90 and the Mercedes-Benz S Class, I have not made it to the end of this video where I have to frustratingly pick a winner between these two cars and that's going to be a really difficult proposition because both cars are really so good that you can't go wrong, but let me first.
Start with the Mercedes because this is the benchmark that everyone compares their flagship luxury sedan to this car and when the all new 7th generation came out in 2021 it basically reset that standard and I must say this s580 is a near perfect luxury sedan . it has a lot of power, it has a really smooth ride quality, it also has athletic handling and it has an interior full of the latest technology, luxury and build quality, and the rear seat also has the most rear seat legroom in This segment, however, the Genesis, as you can see, is also in the same league.
We've really come a long way compared to the old Hyundai Equus, which was already an impressive vehicle over a decade ago and although the Genesis doesn't have the three-pronged model. star on the hood of the vehicle, this is still a really good proposition if you are looking for a lot of value but will not give up anything in terms of build quality in terms of Premium touches, this car is not quite As it is athletic, the ride quality It's a little firmer. The body control movements aren't as athletic as this vehicle, but I'd say that when you drive a car like this, you don't really care too much.
As for 0-60 performance, this car was about half a second faster in the same acceleration test, again it has a V8, it has more power and less weight, that's what I expected, but really what you get with this car It's a lot of value because from that executive rear seat package to all the extra technology in the rear seat area that you have to pay more for, this car, which is also very frustrating, this one we've tested costs about a hundred thousand dollars, this one Mercedes here costs about 125,000. Keep in mind that it's about ten thousand dollars short of options to bring it up to the Genesis trim level.
I need to downgrade to the S500, which will save you about six thousand dollars. Actually, this car is about twenty-seven thousand dollars more expensive now. It's worth it? I had to ask myself that question several times and I also have to look. in this segment because most people tend to lease these cars, people who buy an S-Class will simply own it for three years, get a new one when the lease is up, and won't even look at the competition now in terms of leasing. the price difference of around thirty thousand dollars won't affect the payment that much.
I mean, thirty thousand dollars, thirty thousand thirty percent is a big difference if you're actually buying these vehicles and if you're planning on buying them, I would go. with the Genesis because I would trust this to last a little longer, especially when you have the better warranty that comes with the Genesis. However, if you only plan to lease the car, I would personally choose the Mercedes and that's what I'm going to do. choose because most people in this segment tend to lease this car. I would choose this model here. I would add the executive package, however, I would drop the AMG line and add that executive receipt package because it has more rear seat legroom and is more stately looking. appearance on the outside, but actually this is not a loss for the Genesis because now you can compare these two cars, they are in the same boat and you can get all the luxury, technology and build quality for about thirty thousand dollars.
Less is kind of a win for this car, but I personally, at the end of this video, will go with the s580 as my personal pick, but with all that being said, I hope you enjoyed my full

comparison
