I have all the interior space in the world and the stereo is fantastic, although this is just the Bose and not the upgraded Burmester. What I'm trying to convey is that this car is a beautiful vehicle to drive. every day but none of that matters if when you leave town and turn down a back road like this it doesn't come to life like 150,000 sports cars should or for a hundred thousand dollars less you can have one of these and 997.2 run Oh, and I'm James, Go back 10 years and you get a 911 that left the turbos to the turbo.

This

2010

Carrera S delivers 385 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque from its 3.8-liter flat-six engine that was restyled with direct fuel injection. for this generation and now that it's been around for a while, it's less than half the price of new and yet it's still a pure, uninhibited naturally-aspirated icon and it sounds like one too, keep it, keep it, keep it, yeah, It is a 3.8 liter flat 911. 6 naturally aspirated, 385 horsepower and quite a bit less torque than that number because there are no turbos and to the uninitiated that may seem like a bad thing, but it isn't. Yes, the new 992 is stiffer, it's wider, it's faster and this is the s, so it is. i got even more but it's turbocharged this isn't the first time a turbocharged 911 has been turbocharged without being called a turbo that was the 991.2 generation that was turbocharged without being called a turbo this is the race s that gets 443 horsepower that's 64 more than the 911 Carrera non-turbocharged and non-turbo and 58 more than the 911 James is confused, so am I, so turbochargers mean oh my gosh it has a lot more torque, but Porsche being Porsche didn't settle for a typical. turbocharged power band where it just flattens out and dies near the redline.

No, they tuned it with two turbos to get it straight to redline, but the big problem I have and one of the only problems I have with this. The car is that there are two things, one in the Carrera S trim, it's too fast, this car has too much power and when you have all that boost and these sound symposiums that pump some induction noise into the sport, it also becomes a boom Wushy turbocharged experience makes this noise which you don't hear as much on camera, it sounds more like flat sticks there but to me it just sounds like and since it's so powerful even though the gears are very high oh my god the whole thing affair.
It happens so fast that I can't enjoy that flat six sound. It's like you play Beethoven's 9th Symphony in a second. It would be fast. It's not a 60 in a hair's breadth in five seconds. It's not slow and it's just exciting. You can live in that gear for a while, which some might say is a bad thing because at the top of second gear you're way over the speed limit, but I just want to curl up there, it's wonderful and we have power steering, not Thomas's super refined electric, so I have more connection to the road, not as much as I expected to be honest, but more than modern cars, but it wouldn't be a 911 if it didn't drive like that. a

porsche

and everything it does, every year

porsche

has improved the 911 they have made it drive a little less like a rear engine car, the weight distribution in this car doesn't feel as weird as a 911 should when I turn.
I still have that lean at the rear of the engine, but it's not very obvious, it just feels like a tight sports car and the steering is incredibly precise. Well, I have to say that it is one of the best electric power steering. in the world right now, but it has to be said that an old Porsche has better steering, you can't escape 60 thousand dollars, it's not cheap, oh, that's a sports car, that's a sports car, there's a reason why The 911 is an icon, and this almost sounds like I'm leaving it here, but I'm not, it's the Golf GTI of the six-figure sports car in the best possible way and I can't wait to see if the 992 has kept it because Damn, it looks good. but most importantly, the biggest news of the day is that I'm in an interior that looks like this, it's beautiful in a modern sports car that costs over a hundred thousand dollars and I have a

manual

transmission which, by the way, has brilliant gears and incredibly positive. tightly closed, the clutch is a little springy but it's quite intuitive and the position my hands are in in relation to the gear lever is textbook.
I can touch both the steering wheel and the gear lever at the same time, my hand barely moves, hit a gear, hit a gear. and that's because it's one of the best driving positions in any car I've ever been in. This is the first time in the world that I have gotten into a sports car and I couldn't have the seat in the lowest possible position because it is too low james talks about drug dealer low driving positions this is the complete pablo escobar name another car where you can have your cake and eat it like this it has two back seats for little people it's fast it's fun it looks cool so the 997 offers a naturally aspirated rear engine flat 6 that sounds exciting and although it ticks all those things, the 997 generation is still not immune to the midnight 9/11 in Paris syndrome that must affect all previous generations.
It would be better, so just out of curiosity, let's go back to 1996 where you could have pulled out of the parking lot in a beautiful sand red 993 and before I even started the engine, I heard the sound of the door closing and then I put on my seat belt because I was instead. for safety we have visibility with these little A pillars and if I want to start the engine I have to press this button right before I do it, it will do it in a different way now I'll just press it to get a different vibe There we go to the first one, so we have a Floor mounted clutch pedal that feels very strange.
Air cooled 911, kind of legendary and you're probably thinking it's an old 911 and you see it go by and it's probably pretty scary, guess what, 1996. It wasn't that long ago and this doesn't drive that old the gear stick is easy to operate the clutch despite being mounted on the floor and strange is not punishing like the 997 is not electric steering and fills another stage of the analog now I'm not going to tell you that 282 horsepower is a lot of power, but when you push something Because it's so light and so small you don't find yourself wanting to fight too much, it has that sound, there's so much feel in the steering. not only driving this car is part of the journey with me the steering wheel speaks to me I can feel that oh hi sorry while I'm hard on a car like this because I want it to feel like a classic 911 i can't really fault it that much.
It is an absolutely brilliant and incredible car. It is technically perfect. It's wonderfully fast. It's just an amazing car with a manual transmission because it's so analog that it's a lot more fun in the corners, even at 25 miles an hour, I think. It's just that feeling of fear that doesn't exist in the new ones. I'm waiting for that engine to go around the car and bite me but you haven't seen what it's like after four or five thousand sixes. That's not something that has turbos that are pure. smooth, flat sixes, courtesy of 1996. And I think it's fair to say that the design has aged quite well.
I'm going to go talk to Thomas about it now ah 9 11 day, it's a good day for us. they haven't actually made many 911s, they have been very absent from the final house, no, and that's it, Porsche is finished, yes, except next week, except next week, yes, maybe next week, maybe next week, yeah, stay tuned for that, yeah. Okay, I don't care what you think of this in terms of looks because I think it looks fantastic, okay, amazing, and I think even the bold nine thousand dollar option that makes it look like a GT3 and changes the front bumper, yeah , it's absolutely fine.
I would go to sleep like a baby knowing that I have something that looks a little like a different speck. I don't know what I think. What do you think? I think it's absolutely beautiful. Well, I was worried about you. Where are you? because people will kill you. You would not do that? Yes, this is an icon, okay talking about icons, sorry, oh, you like it, I really like that, yes, I thought you would like it if you brought it, you can see that this has paid homage. it has these strokes on the hood oh, this doesn't have them, okay, and even more geek geek geek that's a word just geeks no, I mean, um, you wouldn't know it, okay, this to be more similar The 993 has the headlights in the fender, while the 997 and 991 have the headlights in the fender and bumper and it doesn't look as good.
This is more historical. If you hadn't pointed it out to me, I would. I've never realized it, I know, the more you know, okay, we are a bastion of useless information, 993. You know what I think about this, you know where I stand, this is for me the best. That's because you're an old man. you are 32 years old, a little, yes, you love backgammon and your favorite thing on cruises is the shuffleboard game on top, yes, and your favorite suite is Werther's original, but that is the secret suite everyone's favorite, because they say yes, they are so delicious, yes, no, this is absolutely stunning, a sandy red doesn't hurt either, yes, it's amazing, okay, the mediocre Porsche 997, yes, the middle between these ish, yes, there is another and yes, there is a bastard child here somewhere. talk about the runny egg we'll talk about racing I like my eggs hard boiled thank you very much uh actually I don't have any problems with the 996 but that's the story it's a great car it doesn't look that good I think next for the 992, now it seems dated, it still looks like no, no, no, no, it looks new, it looks okay, to be fair, when it came out I thought it was too angular, but now it looks a bit like a 911 to me.
I've adapted and it looks more rounded , this do not affect me. I like the rounded 911. It's beautiful, yes, it is. Is better. What is better? It is not better? Is better. Oh, it's wonderful to see it's a manual gearbox. Oh yeah. with such a high tech interior this interior is not absolutely perfect implies that it is perfect it is not perfect there are a couple of things that I have first I am going to make the two complaints that I have with this is fine and then you can assume the rest is perfect, first that nothing, beautiful gauge cluster, correct analog digital, I can see all the information, yes that's because these two gauges are meant for you, not me, because no matter where I put the steering wheel, I only get one , two, three indicators.
I don't understand these at all because of the thumb rest due to the thumb slipping away, it's completely useless, I don't know what they were thinking but the other issue is very minor and can also potentially be very serious when I don't do it. I don't know what it is, I've corroborated it with other people who have tested the 992 and there are rattles inside this car, oh, like a little rat, not like streams, there are rattles like there's a piece of plastic stuck in a little area is really rare apart from me maybe these are the first cars I don't know I'll give it a dough benefit because otherwise I love this interior when it came out it came out only in the pdk Yeah and it was that little one problem and I had no problem with everyone freaking out about it.
I don't bother much, but I think if you want the pdk and not the manual, you should at least be able to pronounce. the words that pdk mean in german what is it? Obviously me as our German resident, yes, go ahead, um, that's double the German that's watching this, tell me, I tried to put on a straight face, what's the pdk? Okay, good to know this has momentum. mode selector which is part of the sport chrono package so I have this little thing here like uh you can hear the exhaust change immediately right now this has cooled seats cooled seats lately have been a problem for us in many cars why notDo they ever work?
Yes, it suddenly gets very loud when you're on the road, you can't hear it, but if they really work we'll turn them off so people can hear us either way, even with the sunroof there's still plenty of headroom. I love the driving position. I love the quality of the interior. I love the steering wheel and we have haptic feedback on a piano black panel that shows fingerprints very poorly, but others. That's simple, I love this interior, let's see what the

2010

is next time, okay, we've rewinded a decade and now we're at the alcantara roof. You just called me a kid for playing with things in the other car.
Yes, okay, this is the 997.2, which doesn't sound like much, but it was a big difference and one of the biggest changes was the interior. Yes, for me this new steering wheel is much better. We had this giant triangle, oh the triangle. one, yeah, that didn't help, it seems very dated now. I can see all my meters here. What a horrible idea. This looks old. Now we have a SIM slot. Wow, yeah, but you know, if this thing had a car, maybe I'd modernize it. I just got out of that 992. The buttons have a good click, although it seems like everything is still high Porsche quality, except that this is all plastic down here and yes, yes, but the seats are comfortable, they are very comfortable, rigid , a little rigid.
Remember we also go back to the headroom, yes, we go back two generations, yes, so this is not just the interior of the previous generation, it is two back, yes, no, two or three back, technically very nice, still beautiful. I really like it, yes, but interestingly the car is smaller, but the cabin doesn't feel much smaller. No, that's true, that's true, it's still bulbous, 911. I like gauges, though I mean, I like digital. What I love is that they didn't, I'm going to burn bmw right now because Porsche record dude, yeah sorry but Porsche made new digital gauges and they made them look like Porsche gauges and they made them look like gauges, period, bmw, such like me.
I don't know, you know I'm not going to mention BMW. Sorry, I'm just upset. I'm annoyed by your gauge groups. It will really make you feel better. What if you drive this? Can I drive it? Yes that's fine. right on the 997, oh yeah, all the gear shifting is good, everything is good and the steering is better, oh, turn it in the front, just talk, oh, I have more of a feeling that the engine is behind me Also, it feels more like a 911. Oh man, I've driven a GT3 like the most recent GT3 and obviously, 9000 rpm, that sounds crazy, it only revs to 7,300, but it has that flat sexiness that I really feel like I was missing in the new 992.
Here's the thing, though. is that it's definitely less refined as a daily vehicle, the 992 has absolutely incredible pace. The turbos are good at making 50-something horsepower feel huge and have again added that extra layer of refinement that continues to happen with every generation from the 993 onwards. From the 996 to the 997 that we just tested, this takes that extra level now yes, it lacks sound and those are the turbos and you can't escape that, but it is very easy to drive, such an easy manual to follow, not intimidating. not at all, but here is the best part and the most exciting part, Porsche, yes I said Porsche, although I usually say Porsche gives you everything, there is a whole menu to choose from and this one is not even that far away in price from the crazy gt3 yes do you want naturally aspirated or manually aspirated pdk don't make me choose one please don't make me choose one because it will be this and I will take care of the sound it's absolutely fine I think it's just not what people are used to But much respect for the 997 and that beautiful 993.
I beat them all and I beat them now and it's okay, it's okay that I can't have them, just give me a few more minutes on these good takeaways from the day. I want to congratulate the 992 for being an absolutely brilliant 911. It's objectively incredible and still retains the 911 character that I love about a car like this. It's important to know that the reason for me right now is that this car feels more visceral and sportier. The car is not because Porsche intentionally designed it that way, they still tried when this car came out to make it the most refined sports car they could, which is what they did with the 992 very successfully, so this is not so much a Porsche product making a car more exciting.
Car from back then and more of a product of the time because that's where the technology could go, so my choice today is the 997 because to me it feels a little more Porsche.
